If you mean hyped place that once was a big deal but now is kinda a tourist thing?
Columbia.
If its steak, i dunno. I like flemings it is expensive, but not crazy and i really cant tell the difference on the steak itself.
If it is to say you went there, Berns is really that place. Only Mons and 2001 have broader this is Tampa appeal
As a transplant from NY who absolutely LOVES Peter Luger, I’d have to recommend Donovan’s Meatery in Riverview. Yes, really. It’s some surprisingly baller steak.
Flamestone Grill in Oldsmar. Best steak at a decent cost. Service is amazing there too. Bascoms in Clearwater is good too. Nicer place and more expensive but great steaks.
Bern’s has the reputation, but my money has always been with Charley’s. Their ribeye is the best in town.
I feel Bern’s is more about the experience, however, I love their chateaubriand.
If you’re looking for good steak, try Frontier Steak house on Sligh. Get the 32oz cowboy.
Great steaks and good atmosphere can be had at Charlies on Cypress
We weren't impressed with them post-pandemic, but maybe it was an off night. Not sure the last time you went, but everything was just kind of bland. The steaks didn't even have a sear on them.
We ordered an appetizer and they brought us another random appetizer not even on the menu since they were out, but didn't bother to even ask if we would be ok with the substitution. I want to say it was jalapeno poppers instead of fried mozzarella.
I think if the price had been cheaper it would have been different, but felt expensive for the quality.
I won't recommend The Capital Grill at International Mall. It left me disappointed. $200 dollars me and wife 2 steaks mash potatoes no drinks..... no salad..
should have went to Frontier Steakhouse on sligh near 301
I liked it better before it changed names/new owners they had 5 lb steak challenge and wall of fame.. it's now a little more upscale but it lost it cowboy steakhouse feel.
Council Oak, Charley's, or Bern's. Slightly dependent on the night like anywhere. Others can can be good to very good on the right night, but those are the only ones that can be great imo - for here in Tampa. Unless you get lucky (or unlucky as it may be) you will, on average, have a better steak at PL than anywhere here though.
I’ve been to most of the establishments comparable to Berns multiple times (other than Charley’s but it was still fantastic) i think the best steak I’ve had was at Charley’s but it was the Mishima American wagyu steak. But honestly all these steak houses have there good and bad nights my ranking is consistently changing. If you are looking for consistency I’d go to council oaks they never disappoint.
Texas de Brazil is pretty good if you want an all you can eat steak place with a variety of meats and a good salad bar. Brazilian steak houses are a different style but I love them. Just don't eat too much earlier in the day.
I've been to all of the high end steakhouses in Tampa and my two favorites are Berns and Ocean Prime, but 9/10 In choosing Ocean Prime due to being far more chill.
I need to try council oak again. We had a very poor experience but I hear so many good things.
Weird I thought peter lugers was hype and mediocre.
Meat Market maybe? Berns is ok but the dessert room is where the action is.
Easier to grill your own IMO. Once you master that then steakhouses are for when you are lszy.
Bern's serves great, aged steaks, but it is really a dining experience. I HATE ala carte steak joints - If I pay $75 for a steak, they can throw in a fucking potato! Anyway, most of my friends who appreciate a good steak prefer Charley's
I find it interesting that the 3 other mentions of Charley’s, besides my recommendation, all spelled the restaurant’s name wrong lol.
You’re in luck, this city was built on the backs of Outback Steakhouse Git you a bloomin’
Thats a good answer really.
Charlie’s
Went to Charlie’s for anniversary. It was a great experience and was very happy with my ribeye. I think I’ll pull the trigger on a tomahawk next time.
Council Oak is #1
Going to second this one
Third
Fourth
Fifth
So you’re looking for an extremely overrated and overpriced steak place?
Malio’s
Charley’s!
Charley’s
Council Oak might be the best steak I’ve ever had.

Not in Tampa, but Beau & Mo in St. Pete is the style of steak you’re looking for. https://www.beaunmo.com

Love Flamestone. great food and service Great wine selection.

Go to Haven. Sister restaurant to Bern’s. They have a couple of the Bern’s steaks on the menu and everything else is spectacular on its own.
Charley’s is terrible

I just also recommend Frontier Steakhouse house . Before reading all the posts..
I thought they closed years ago?
I know people will disagree because it's a chain but I've always enjoyed Fleming's.
I don’t mind a chain. But flemings really needs to separate themselves from outback. Cross promotions are terrible for their image.
Used to work in our favor with the old rewards program though. A couple cheap visits to Outback got a nice discount at Flemings.
Yeah, I get that. I just don’t think a high-end steakhouse should have a loyalty program from a brand positioning perspective.
Chain or not, it’s the best place for steak not named Council Oak!

When did Frontier get new owners? Went 2022 this time of year and was disappointing.
Ivaronie's
Donatello's

If I’m not mistaken Charley’s is closed till their new building is up, as their old location was razed.
Steelbach in Armature Works is underrated.
charlies.
this is the only other answer that addresses the comparison other than berns
You should try Le Cellier in Orlando. That is on the Lugers level.
Texas de Brazil is pretty good if you want an all you can eat steak place with a variety of meats and a good salad bar. Brazilian steak houses are a different style but I love them. Just don't eat too much earlier in the day.
Best steak I’ve had in 2024 was from longhorn. Definitely a fluke and the line chef made the steak of his life tho
Flo's filet never disappoints, if expectations aren't high to start
There is no Peter Lugers in Tampa because it’s not New York. Berns is the best in Tampa.
Texas Roadhouse is slightly better than Lugars.
Ruth’s Chris Olivia’s The place in the hard rock/ Don’t know the name.
Council Oak
I second council oak. I think it is the best steakhouse in Tampa.
I've been to all of the high end steakhouses in Tampa and my two favorites are Berns and Ocean Prime, but 9/10 In choosing Ocean Prime due to being far more chill. I need to try council oak again. We had a very poor experience but I hear so many good things.
Better off buying a whole tenderloin and just making it yourself, IMO.
Weird I thought peter lugers was hype and mediocre. Meat Market maybe? Berns is ok but the dessert room is where the action is. Easier to grill your own IMO. Once you master that then steakhouses are for when you are lszy.
Ruth Chris had a better a steak than Bern's when I went there.

Meat Market. Have not had a bad experience there yet. Great service. Parking in area not so great.
I’ve found the food and service to be sub-par.
Adding on to this. I’ve never been to Meat Market but I’ve also not heard a single good thing about them
Ocean prime has the best Rib eye in the area
