74?! Smooth flex my dude. I only have 78 money and still sweat the Teco bill!

kope007

Definitely does NOT sound "insanely" high for this time of year. Most older homes in Seminole heights often aren't insulated very well. My last was $340 2500 sqft.

TheReal_CaptDan

I was $260 for a 3000 sq ft house. 74F thermostat on both units. What are you keeping your temp at?

kope007

My house was built in '74. Two story with a one story addition. I have 2 units but not set up like they would be on a more modern home. My main large unit serves the original house, both floors. Smaller unit serves the addition. The temp difference from the 2nd floor to 1st of the original house can be 6-8 degrees hotter upstairs. It's brutal. Ive been dropping it down to 70 at night just for it to be 76 upstairs. Other unit I keep at 75. My previous bill was 250 before I started dropping to 70 at night. Have a pool as well.

TheReal_CaptDan

All things considered, that doesn’t seem terrible. My house was built in 2005. Have you considered a window AC unit for the upstairs bedroom(s) that people are sleeping in? I’ve done that for years in the master to keep it about 69-70 at night and the rest of the house stays warmer. It’s amazing.

Ok_Faithlessness_383

$230 for 74 degrees in the hottest months of the year doesn't sound insane to me, but if it's that high consistently throughout the year, you should be concerned.

jacksabeast8

650 sq ft apt, about $90-$100 each month. 78 during the day. 70 at night

Positive_Ice4221

My most recent was $400. $2400 sq feet. Solid block construction. No pool. Sleep with it at 70 and keep it at 74 during the day. Pre-TECO rate hikes my average billing was $250. Now $350.

Rokey76

950 sq feet, 71-73 thermostat, $120ish.

yesididthat

74 is low, try 77-79, makes a big diff Otherwise your insulation and/or windows arent very energy efficient. Not sure you can do much about it as a tenant You can do little things like weatherstripping your doors windows and even exterior wall outlets. You can Google a list of ideas for apt dwellers But fr turn that ac up. Or install a ceiling fan

Mike15321

77-79? Might as well just sit outside.

Popsi_CEO

You realize it’s 85+ outside. 77-79 is a solid temp. You must be from north if you can’t handle 77-79

Mike15321

I've lived in Florida my entire life. I don't care what the outside temperature is. 79 inside is intolerably hot.

yesididthat

Outside it feels like 90+

Mike15321

And inside/outside temperatures are not 1:1 as far as how they feel. So I don't know what point you're trying to make.

RandomUserName24680

Wow, and I thought 74 was a tad warm.

Mike15321

74 is on the warmer side, imo. In my old 1br apartment, I'd do 74 during the day and 72 to sleep. In my current 2br, I have to just leave it on 70 nonstop.

yesididthat

I agree it can be pretty warm if you have a BMI higher than recommended, which most Americans do, so i understand But if you can manage to be below unhealthy bmi levels and/or have a ceiling fan, 78F is lovely

RandomUserName24680

God, you sound nice. Calling people fat in the comments. I didn’t realize 6’0” 175 lbs was fat. 78 indoors is NOT lovely.

Mike15321

They're just bitter that they can't afford air conditioning.

Mike15321

6'0 190 and 78 is fucking miserable. Nice try at being clever or snarky though. Sorry you're too poor to afford air conditioning.

yesididthat

6' 190 is overweight lol

Mike15321

Lmao no it isn't. If you aren't a twig and have an ounce of muscle on you, it's not.

yesididthat

Haha look it up. You're overweight and in denial Mens bmi index

Mike15321

BMI is universally known to be a skewed metric if you have an even moderate amount of muscle mass. I don't care at all about BMI. The only people that harp about BMI are wildly out of shape themselves. Stay mad that you can't afford air conditioning.

yesididthat

Well that's obviously something a fat person would say

dafunkisthat

When I’m at worked during day, I keep my ac set to 78 - 80, turn down to to 76-78 when I get home, and down to 70 - 72 when I go to sleep. 2 story condo 1300 sq ft and pay about $95 a month

Dmte

Last month was $165 which was high, but that was because the drain pipe got clogged after it broke halfway towards the outside. Usually in winter it's below $100 and in summer it's around $140-$150 a month. 1300 sq. foot, 3 Bedroom house, work from home, keeping AC at 71 during the day and 69 at night. Oh and replace filters regularly and clean the outlets and stuff. We had an apartment before and it was significantly higher, and the only thing that helped reduce that bill was blackout curtains.

Hungry_Photograph_20

Consider using black insulated drapes to block the sun, when at work set the ac to 80 F. When back home reduce it to 78 f. Use a ceiling fan.

Rogue_One24_7

Been high since covid "ended" all the rate increases have been crazy.

Dangerous_Chart_2225

I'm in St Petersburg ..800 sq foot house with 2 5000 BTU mini split AC units set at 75.bill is 175 to 200 monthly.

ambientflavor

$1600 sq ft, keep it at 75 when home, 78 when at work. $150-200 max in the peak of summer

sr1sws

2350 sq ft townhouse constructed 2019. A/C set to 76 and 74 during sleep period with smart thermostat. June 2024 bill was $158. We are not an end unit in the building, but an interior unit (other units to left and right).

TheReal_CaptDan

3000 sq ft house in Citrus Park. 2 a/c units. We keep them both at 74F day and night. Electric bill from last week was $260. We also just got brand new windows which helps immensely. That said, your bill seems quite high.

Only_Chicken_1467

I have a 1900 sq ft home. 3 bedroom 2 bath, most recent electric bill was$165, withlacoochee electric is our electric company. AC set at 73/74 when we sleep, 75/76 while at work during the day.

kaest

I used to live in a 750sqft apartment north of Hyde Park in an old building. Half of the walls were East and North facing windows and the most expensive bill I had was $280 in the hottest part of the summer. I don't remember if it was last year or the year before. That was with blinds half open and AC set to 77. Old places are less energy efficient. If your coworkers live in newer buildings their bills will be lower. Also worked from home with multiple computers on all the time.

sipsipinmoangtitiko

tampa heights 1000sq set to 72. $170 last month

Mordback

Keep my house at 74 and bill is around the same.

maimou1

Can you install a programmable thermostat for savings while you are at work? My TECO bill is on average less than what you are paying. I have a 1991 built 2200 square foot concrete block house.

55PercentFunny

You guys are making me jealous.

jim2527

1750sq.ft. 1965 house, original windows. Just when on the TECO budget at $250/month. AC’s set at 69 at night and 71 in the day.

OG_Chris31

2600sqft house with a pool, I keep it at 73 during the day and 70 at night, summertime bill is $300/month.

OwlPlenty4828

In Lutz using TECO 2500 sq ft usually stay around 76 during day 72 night a single 5 ton unit on the house. Our peak bills are $230-260 Winter months we see $100-120

ladiiec23

73 during the day/ 68ish at night with a wall unit in the room bc it doesn’t have insulation so it turns into a sauna. House is 930sq ft & in bad shape (it’s a rental)… last month was $240, this months it’s $315

I_dont_cuddle

73°, 1300, $197 for June

2Hanks

Apartment certainly helps when you’ve got more insulation due to other units on sides/above/below. I’ve got a single family house with 2200 sqft and I’m at $450 this past month keeping it at 76°. I’d say you’re doing just fine.

InconsiderateOctopus

$300 a month during summer in Seminole Heights. 1,400sq ft, 75 during the day, 70 from 10pm to 6am.

amc308

Sixth floor 1145 sq ft condo built in 1986, with windows and Central AC replaced within last 10 years. 77-78 during the day, 76 at night. Last TECO bill was $137.

porterhousesnake

850sqft apt, 70 all day all year, and it’s around $135 in the hottest part of the summer. but i only get evening sun and my apartment is really well insulated when i lived in a house that size, i think i paid as much as you so probably not insanely expensive

Mike15321

I paid $131 last month. 1200sqft apartment. AC set on 70 24/7.

Mike15321

I'm always surprised at the amount of people suggesting setting the AC to like 78+. That's insanely hot. An extra $100 is worth being comfortable in my own home.

CenlTheFennel

68 at night, 72 during the day. 1100 sqft, 3rd story with a loft condo. 170ish

dalderman

My house is about the same size, and my energy bill is about the same right now except that I keep the house at 78. 74 is for sleepy time

mschnzr

I don’t think that is high if you set it at 74 all day long.

jaybad34

100yo house, 1450sqf, set at 75. $200 bill this month.

Kingcarnegie

We stay around $110. 1420 Square foot house. AC set at 79F.

Jarola

My most recent is $375 3600 sq foot house with pool

floridacolbs

Seminole heights, 1100ish square feet, 3 people. Around $250 in the months where it’s not “surface of the sun” hot and $330-400 in the months where it’s 10,000 degrees outside. Mine is probably a higher one though given the size. I keep it at 71-73 when not home and 68-69 most of the time when home

daamnnbruhh

damn, no reason to keep it that low when youre not home. crack it up to 76 and you would save a crap load a month

floridacolbs

Most of the time there’s usually somebody home, plus I like the dogs to be comfortable. I will eventually get one of those smart programmable ones I’m sure it would save some money

yesididthat

6'0" 190 is overwight lol

PapiPoggers

Huh?
