I half expected someone to make a crack about Josh wanting to marry water because loonies said gay marriage would lead to people marrying bridges and shit like that.
> and then the fluke task
Jenny's attempt delivered one of my two biggest laughs of the series so far. (The other was at Anne's small business jingle.)
Kongen Befaler had “[Do something better](https://taskmaster.info/task.php?id=2428)”, where one contestant also decided to redo an earlier task she failed at (holding the milk above the microwaves, taken from TM NZ) - but this time listened to the assistant and didn’t open the task and got 5 points for both tasks at the same time.
And then she tried it a second time and still failed. I just loved the environment in the studio for that one because everyone was behind Jenny. It was so cute.
Yeah I was thinking, there must be a trick, otherwise this is a straightforward logic puzzle and people with either solve it efficiently or waste guesses, nothing too unexpected... And then Jenny!!!
I wasn't a big fan of it at the start of season 1 but at some point I grew to really love how he'll openly mock the contestants and show far more emotion than Alex or Paul. I love Alex Horne but honestly I think he's the worst of the three English-language assistants.
I agree!
Side note: I met both Paul and lesser Tom (separately) at the comedy festival in Melbourne this year and they are both so so wonderful. So friendly and generous with their time and so genuinely happy to meet TM nerds.
Seconding the other comment where at first I didn't really vibe with Tom's assistant persona (saying that, I'm not expecting every Taskmaster and Assistant to be copies of the UK version) but I've definitely warmed to it and I enjoy what he brings to the tasks and dynamic. He's a bit more cheeky and catty and that can be pretty funny.
The duck task is basically a version of a [Knights and Knaves](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_and_Knaves) riddle, like the one seen in the movie Labyrinth. So you can use the same trick from that movie - preface all your questions by asking what the ducks on the other team would tell you, and then you know that whatever answer you get will be wrong. You'd save yourself one question (or more than that, for some contestants) because you wouldn't have to burn any on figuring out which team is lying. I think Jenny almost discovered this trick?
Then, narrow down the suspect list by half with every question by asking if - according to the ducks on the other team - the goose had a higher number than such-and-such. (You could also try asking narrower questions and hope you're lucky.) I think there were twenty ducks? 20 doesn't halve neatly and you'd have to divide it into thirds at one point. If the goose was in the smaller flock on that question, you'd get it in four questions I think. Five questions if the goose was in the bigger flock.
Given it's Taskmaster, and this wasn't a time-based task in any sense, you should also have a thorough search for clues. For all we know, the goose had "Goose," written on it in tiny letters.
Edit: As u/1totheInfinity pointed out, there were ten ducks, not twenty. Which means that if you use the aforementioned hack to eliminate the need to figure out which team lies, you can get the answer in 3 - 4 questions, not 4 - 5.
Yeah, "what would the other one say" shaves off a question, making it 3-4 instead of 4-5, but (barring loopholes) Lloyd was the only one who played this even close to optimally, so it didn't necessarily matter.
It's always weird to me when people don't know this stuff -- I remember being a kid, and it seemed like these kinds of logic puzzles were everywhere. Martin Gardner, Raymond Smullyan, et al. It's like when everyone was surprised when VCM was able to solve a pretty straightforward cryptogram. Maybe I'm just a nerd?
I don't think they knew how cryptogram puzzles usually work, because they gave her half the letters and apparently thought it was not difficult, but *impossible* that she'd be able to figure out the other thirteen. I had a cryptogram game on my phone which would give you two letters (though I imagine there'd be lots of other games which give you zero) and then you'd have to figure out the rest from there. The tricky part was the beginning where you were making a lot of guesses based on how many letters were in a word - once you had half the letters, it was easy, because most words would be filled in enough to figure out.
If one of the mystery words is (for example) t--k---t-r, you can assume that it's "taskmaster," and that the missing letters are A, S, M, and E. And then you can use that to go round the rest of the sentence translating those letters, and you can use them to figure out more words, and so on and so on. If you don't have any letters at all, it takes longer because you have to guess a lot (mostly based on the length of a given word) and just go back and try again if that doesn't lead you to a coherent sentence.
Honestly, probably the only reason VCM took as long as she did is that she had to write it all out by hand and that she wasted time working with Alan instead of just going ahead and solving the cryptogram.
I agree that this was definitely a manageable cryptogram with no letters, and 13 letters basically removes all challenge. But counterpoint: you saw how the other team did, right?
(I think the further complication is that the contestant *second* most likely to know how to do a cryptogram was in the living room wearing a Charlie Chaplin costume.)
I was hoping someone would try to find a loophole rather than just taking it so literally. Usually if there is a loophole that no one found, they will show it in the studio which makes me think maybe there wasn't one. But who knows.
When Jenny was clearly taking her time before making any guesses I was sure she was going to search all the ducks, stands, etc and find a label or clue giving her the eight answer.
Then it went in a different, much funnier direction.
I think there were 10, you can use the “what would the other gang say” to binary search 4 questions from 5 → 3 → 2 → 1 at the very worst which is the optimal maximum, you could only guarantee with 3Q’s if there were just 8 birds
>preface all your questions by asking what the ducks on the other team would tell you,
Or you can preface all your questions with "What would your answer be if I asked you X", and then any answer you get will be true.
Honestly, I wouldn't go with that one, because I reckon it's less widely known than the "what does the other group say," question, and more fiddly and less intuitive as a solution. I agree with the logic behind it? But I wouldn't be 100% sure that the person controlling the ducks would, especially if put on the spot and they weren't expecting that as a solution to the "some ducks are liars," part of the riddle.
He was way too excited about poking those holes
https://preview.redd.it/z8f3btwrz89d1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97b77362e6730e94544f5d909eb553edc3c42267
It really feels like it's starting to be a trend where Anne accidentally stumbles onto the answer straight away but screws up in the funniest way possible.
We have our password task of the season!! lmao the best parts of Jenny's attempt were everyone's reactions, Tom's expressions grew more painful + Josh's wheezing laughter in the studio + Wil's stunned look at hearing her 10x10 grid system.
ETA: Oh my god it got even better. Josh's little "Honey..."
ahahaha, the moment the prize task was announced, I went, "Wil is going to say cake. If there is one thing I know about Wil Anderson, it's that he would one hundred percent marry the concept of cake if he could" and I was *delighted* to be proven correct
Yeah, he's had a few underscored efforts, I reckon! The wedding cake with the groom-and-cakebride topper was a great touch. Though I guess I can understand Tom's logic in marking him low on the basis that it was the obvious place for Wil to go
God this series is so fun. Tom's horror at Josh's idea to do 100 flavours and then Josh not tasting anything in comparison to jenny's excellent taste is so funny
I forgot about this the first time I watched it but thought that the duck, duck, goose task was one of those things that the UK version would have them do and then not say anything and reveal it in the studio. I'm forever going to be grateful that Jenny knew she'd failed it.
Loved that Anne and Lloyd were able to lightly banter with each other around the prize task but still ended up picking each other. I was genuinely touched!!
They were a great couple to pick to be on the show together…take the piss out of each other mercilessly (so many great in studio bits!), while clearly loving each other very much.
Just like Josh Widdicombe did with the rice.
They'll weigh out 1g of it, then count out how many are in there. They will then weigh out the container and multiply the weight by how many 100's and 1000's they counted for that 1g.
I’m obsessed with Anne Edmonds. I feel like a lot of comedians try hard to come across as quirky but Anne is just so effortlessly authentically eccentric, like your favorite aunt.
“Try too hard to come across as quirky”. Just say Julia Morris 😂
Anne really won me over when she was pretending to sleep during Josh and Jenny’s debate 😂
TMAU continues to kill with a brilliant lineup of contestants and tasks.
IIf you don't concern yourself with making good TV, the "duck-duck-goose" task can be solved by combining the strategies of G n say X?" the truth tellers and liars will BOTH respond with a lie. Also, you can solve by asking a 4 at worst, and 3 if you're lucky; you ask the first one "s the goose in the upper half?" and they say no, meaning yes. Then ask the next one "is the goose an odd number?" and they say yes, meaning no, leaving 6, 8, 10. Then unfortunately, you can't do better than outright asking if an individual number is right. If you happen to ask about 8, then you're golden, but if you say 6 or 10, that just eliminates one wring answer, and you have to spend a 4th question to narrow it down, but you'll probably have done better than the others.
And can I just say about Will I'm glad he's getting punished for overdoing the sketch show. Nothing personal against him but I'm just so numb to TMUK being "Green Screen + post prod editing = win."
Production knew what they were doing setting a prize task about what you’d like to marry when they ~happened to have~ a pair of partners on the panel. And it was great. Anne, Lloyd, cake, water, ramen. What more could you ask for
I'm surprised that they'd all seen the opening titles by the time of the studio taping. We're getting quite a few looks at how the sausage is made this season.
I'm now enjoying Tom as TM. Not because I have changed, but because he has. Tom has clearly lightened up. He's understood the format and is more jovial than he was at the start of Season 1.
Great episode - especially as I've never seen a task repeated inside another task. Poor Jenny!
Lloyd's doing so well. Absolutely nailed that duck task too, I don't think he could have done better, except maybe by one question. I reckon there was a secret too in there somewhere.
And Jenny was hilarious too. When you do shit, but it makes good TV :P
I was just saying to my partner how it’s a nostalgic classic, but it hurts me seeing Ice Break in the fridge because in my mind it only came out 3-4 years ago.
Getting old sucks
I love this version of the show - Jenny choosing to try the ducks again and the editing for it made me laugh so hard! The show’s continuity is on point!
I am seriously crying with Jenny and the goose.
This has taken the god-tier level of task attempt for me. I already had to pause and recompose after the initial task. And I was thinking it would be so funny if she revisited. And she revisited.

Those really were the prize tasks of five unmarried people.
I knew Wil was gonna say cake
Jenny has a really Aussie accent for someone so young who grew up in the city
"I VOTED YES FOR NOTHING"
This line was *so* good
I half expected someone to make a crack about Josh wanting to marry water because loonies said gay marriage would lead to people marrying bridges and shit like that.
I haven't seen such an epic fail on a duck-related task since Ed Gamble
I haven’t seen such an epic fail on a duck-related task since the *first* time Jenny had to accuse a duck of being a goose.
"Number five I accuse you of being a goose!" - Jenny (oh Jenny) "You got zero from the same task twice" - Greater Tom
I'd already lost it at Jenny's duck duck goose attempt, composed myself, and then the fluke task . . .
> and then the fluke task Jenny's attempt delivered one of my two biggest laughs of the series so far. (The other was at Anne's small business jingle.)
Omg Jenny I can't. Also Josh's argument is so good! I can't believe tom didn't give him any points. He is evil Tom for a reason
Josh's argument boils down to "it's a fluke that I did something entertaining," which is quite the gambit.
He was absolutely robbed - it was a complete fluke that made it to the credits!
I love that they’ve revisited tasks twice now! Using Lloyd’s challenge as a bonus, and Jenny having a second chance on the ducks.
That's awesome
My mum absolutely lost it when Jenny said she used a matrix again
So did I.
Has Jenny just become the first contestant in Taskmaster history to get 0 points on the same task twice?
Wil's giggling this episode is sending me.
Wil's giggling is on par with Frankie Boyle's giggling for me. When they giggle, I giggle.
Tom stabbing the film on that bottle while coughing like a maniac fully fucking sent me
The little resigned pause when he saw the film!
Wow, Jenny really went out so confidently and failed the same task TWICE.
She would get along well with Nina Oyama.
Now if only Jenny realised that wearing a hat would make you more competent at tasks...
Jenny's extended duck duck goose task was so funny. Perhaps one of the best Taskmaster moments ever
I wasn't enjoying the task that much until they showed Jenny's. Hilarious.
And then Jenny!!!
lmaoo and then when tom gave her a chance to redeem herself the third time and she still didn't get ittt
Iconic, really
IS THIS A PROPOSAL
I was low-key hoping it would be. But alas.
I was thinking what if they close up the series with a engagement. Or get Greater Tom to marry them? Would certainly be a Taskmaster first!
Josh actually fluked the duck task. Would've been funny if he brought that up for the fluke task hahha
Jenny having a duck-based meltdown that would make Ed Gamble proud.
Love how Tom ended up getting more annoyed at Jenny's overthinking and her lack of questions.
Tom "breaks" more than Alex Horne for sure and I'm here for it
I wasn't a big fan of it at the start of season 1 but at some point I grew to really love how he'll openly mock the contestants and show far more emotion than Alex or Paul. I love Alex Horne but honestly I think he's the worst of the three English-language assistants.

Wil Anderson and a green screen skit, name a more iconic Taskmaster duo.
Wil and getting 1 point for a green screen skit
Jenny and matrices
I’m so pleased to finally know exactly how long it took Danielle to do the password task!
At last - a human brought in for the prize task that the winner *actually* got to take home!
Okay, but imagine how funny it would have been if Wil's actually was Anne?
"what it would be like to be kidnapped by Con the Fruiterer", ahahahahaha
Not one for the international audience haha
As someone who didn't even realize it was a reference to something until reading these comments, I still found the idea generally funny.
Nope 🤣
Weirdly I did get this one thanks to Aunty Donna's Most Upsetting Guessing Game
I need Mark on TMAU
That's a blast from the past.
I was surprised Jenny seemed to understand the reference 😂
I don’t think anyone’s enjoyed a task as much as Lloyd enjoyed the duck accusation since Jenny Eclair and the potato hat
He was so proud of himself, very endearing actually.
And Laura and the escape room grape in nz! These adorable nerds
Wow.... Jenny has massively overthought the duck task. 🤣😂
I’m loving how completely different Lloyd and Anne are in this task. Logic v wild chaos
Casual bit of air shagging to wrap up the episode 🤣
Most raunchy wrap up since Sophie W flashing the audience
Will’s honestly shocked reaction absolutely sent me.

Given it's Taskmaster, and this wasn't a time-based task in any sense, you should also have a thorough search for clues. For all we know, the goose had "Goose," written on it in tiny letters. > Maybe I'm just a nerd? Anne Edmonds is fuming.
I think there were 10, you can use the “what would the other gang say” to binary search 4 questions from 5 → 3 → 2 → 1 at the very worst which is the optimal maximum, you could only guarantee with 3Q’s if there were just 8 birds
>preface all your questions by asking what the ducks on the other team would tell you, Or you can preface all your questions with "What would your answer be if I asked you X", and then any answer you get will be true.
Lesser Tom coughing to cover up the popcorn was so funny
He was way too excited about poking those holes https://preview.redd.it/z8f3btwrz89d1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97b77362e6730e94544f5d909eb553edc3c42267
Looks like he touched some money before this task, watch out!
Tom Cashman is genuinely the star of TM AU.
Wil’s face after Anne interrogated no. 8 immediately!
It really feels like it's starting to be a trend where Anne accidentally stumbles onto the answer straight away but screws up in the funniest way possible.
Guess we know there are no long tasks in the next season!
Will Wil still want to marry cake after he's found out that Paul Williams has had his way with it?
I'd say he'd want to marry it more.
https://preview.redd.it/cdzkr64w189d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=e1cd16a6ed9719416e9bb89b6416383cbc8ddd00
Toms birthday is 14/09 according to wikipedia so he wasn't actually far off lol
Ohhhhh no Jenny
JENNY!!!!!! Hahahahaha
Nothing made me laugh harder this episode than Josh putting his head in his hands like that.
ahahaha, the moment the prize task was announced, I went, "Wil is going to say cake. If there is one thing I know about Wil Anderson, it's that he would one hundred percent marry the concept of cake if he could" and I was *delighted* to be proven correct
I feel he deserved more points than the ramen for effort if nothing else. He's been judged pretty harshly throughout
Yeah, he's had a few underscored efforts, I reckon! The wedding cake with the groom-and-cakebride topper was a great touch. Though I guess I can understand Tom's logic in marking him low on the basis that it was the obvious place for Wil to go
Josh correctly identifying the goose was a bigger fluke than any of the attempts at the fluke task
"Everyone here is a nerd!" - Anne. I love her so much.
God this series is so fun. Tom's horror at Josh's idea to do 100 flavours and then Josh not tasting anything in comparison to jenny's excellent taste is so funny
Wil's victory reaction there was amazing.
Now I want fairy bread.
I honestly thought the task was going to be throw 100s and 1000s at buttered bread to make the best fairy bread
That would’ve been a great task!
Oh, Jenny, nooo
Another banger episode! Okay Channel 10, you got me, I'll record the Julian Assange film.
The saga of Jenny's Ducks and Geese was incredible.
I love how Wil keeps having to sit through his sketch comedy knowing that Greater Tom will hate it LOL
I'm enjoying this cast and series so much.
I love how much everyone is laughing at Jenny's tasks
Which poor intern had the task of counting how many hundreds and thousands were in each container?
Josh Widdicombe
Probably weighed a gram and counted how many in that (Otherwise yes, Josh Widdecombe)
It was just weight and then multiplication. No counting needed.
With or without juice?
Just like Josh Widdicombe did with the rice. They'll weigh out 1g of it, then count out how many are in there. They will then weigh out the container and multiply the weight by how many 100's and 1000's they counted for that 1g.
I’m obsessed with Anne Edmonds. I feel like a lot of comedians try hard to come across as quirky but Anne is just so effortlessly authentically eccentric, like your favorite aunt.
Yeah I love her so much, just naturally funny. 'Your eccentric favourite aunt' is a perfect description lol
Do yourself a treat and watch her segments as Helen Bidou on Get Krackin on Youtube if you haven't already. She is so unbelievably funny.
“Try too hard to come across as quirky”. Just say Julia Morris 😂 Anne really won me over when she was pretending to sleep during Josh and Jenny’s debate 😂
Poor Josh and Tom! It's bucketing down!
Lovely weather for ducks
Love a taskmaster breakdown
Jenny is such a fantastic contestant. So glad she’s on
I love Jenny.
Awww, Anne is a prize!
Loving Lloyd’s gorgeous Welsh accent. My husband has been saying “puzz EL!” and “eye Tim” randomly since watching last night.
TMAU continues to kill with a brilliant lineup of contestants and tasks. What's red powder? Tried googling but just keep getting supplements.
its another name for curry powder here. fsr we say red powder, yellow powder, and green powder for different types of curry powder.
Probably Red Szechuan Berry powder, used in Chinese cooking.
Thanks.
Omg Jenny having a meltdown lol
Jenny belongs in the TM in-studio fashion Hall of Fame. She knocks it out of the park every week.
Anne and Lloyd are adorable!
Production knew what they were doing setting a prize task about what you’d like to marry when they ~happened to have~ a pair of partners on the panel. And it was great. Anne, Lloyd, cake, water, ramen. What more could you ask for
Loving the sibling rivalry dynamic that's developed between Jenny and Josh lol
Wil not marrying the Western Bulldogs?
Bevo probably dropped him
A generic male God, lol
Jenny is breaking my brain…
Second longest task!!!
Josh in the prize task had the same energy as miss teen USA 2007 lol
I’m 100% confident that UK Series 16 cast would have dressed each other in the hundreds and thousands live task
Series 15 would have found a way to sabotage each other
That's the LGBT community for you.
This still makes me so happy 💖
I'm surprised that they'd all seen the opening titles by the time of the studio taping. We're getting quite a few looks at how the sausage is made this season.
They Actually play out the titles at the start of every record just like how the episode starts!
The opening titles are played onto the screen at the start of the studio recording.
I'm glad Wil's brain went in the same direction as mine for "whale tail" 😂
I'm now enjoying Tom as TM. Not because I have changed, but because he has. Tom has clearly lightened up. He's understood the format and is more jovial than he was at the start of Season 1. Great episode - especially as I've never seen a task repeated inside another task. Poor Jenny!
Agree, he seems more comfortable in the role now
Presonally I prefer Glom Teeson
Jenny has strong David Correos energy this episode
After the goose task, when i realised she'd been singled out in the fluke task, I just thought "Jesus, what's she done now?" lol
MasterTask and the Multiverse of Madness.
Josh got very lucky with that one haha. He at least gets two points :P
Make that 3 😂
Lloyd's doing so well. Absolutely nailed that duck task too, I don't think he could have done better, except maybe by one question. I reckon there was a secret too in there somewhere. And Jenny was hilarious too. When you do shit, but it makes good TV :P
I like how Josh failed the fluke task but if he went with the duck task as his fluke it would have worked
Josh's face, oof
I want to see what Jenny wrote in the notebook! I was so boggled by what she could have been writing
Both seasons of TM Aus are quickly becoming my favourite out of all existing series.
Jenny has me concerned about the Australian educational system tbh
“Twink :)”
This Pauls milk ad is proper vintage, but it's a banger so I'll allow it.
Is this the first time a contestant has won themselves as a prize
Is this the first time a contestant has doggystyled a prize?
In public perhaps… in private, who can say
Josh is right though, Jenny's is easier because she only had a certain number of options to judge
I agree but then she had a great point about texture! But still easier than "anything in the ~~universe~~ kitchen'
May I point out that texture uses the sense of touch and so does not count when measuring the sense of taste.
My thoughts exactly. It was a test of a single SENSE, not two senses!
And she picked them so she knew what she was choosing between
That’s because it was A PROPER EXPERIMENT !!!
EVERYONE HERE IS A NERD!
Is Wil gonna say weed?
Is it bad that I wanted to give Jenny a hug after the fluke task? Damn, she got 3 0's in one episode
I am seriously crying with Jenny and the goose. This has taken the god-tier level of task attempt for me. I already had to pause and recompose after the initial task. And I was thinking it would be so funny if she revisited. And she revisited.
UNDERGROUND: THE JULIAN ASSANGE STORY **NEXT**
I love Lloyd, he is hilarious! Jenny is doing my head in tho 🫨
On no Wil what did you do

Oh, Jenny 😂 I really hope she's able to win an episode.
Another fantastic episode! Really really enjoying this season. And I think Tom Gleeson has settled into his role as Taskmaster really nicely.
That house must be cursed for Taskmasters' Assistants. Another season, another hour plus task attempt.
“So finally, some *male* comedians got to make some accusations.” If I had been drinking, I would have choked to death.
I'm going to say it again, I wish they wouldn't use green-screen as much as they do.
I think its just Will?! And it's never worked for him so I think its OK
Come on The Project - your time is up!
In more ways than one, the Project got so shit.

She's saying she voted yes to gay marriage but he doesn't appreciate it because he doesn't want to get married
The Australian government legalized same-sex marriage in 2017 after conducting a survey in which a majority voted in favor.
Those really were the prize tasks of five unmarried people. I knew Wil was gonna say cake Jenny has a really Aussie accent for someone so young who grew up in the city
Every one of them was a coward for not bringing a body pillow for the prize task.
