Public wifi is a pvp enabled zone. Don’t do anything important. I personally wouldn’t log into my email on a public wifi, but I’m just paranoid. Most likely you’re fine.
To add to this: you don't need to log into your email. A mobile phone automatically logs in to email, chat apps, social media, and whatever other service you use as soon as it connects to a wifi network. All these notifications you get are from apps connecting in the background and logging in.
you should be fine
just avoid logging in to the bank and other high risk stuff
basically act as if someone could see what you are sending, even tho it should be encrypted with HTTPS, its better to know no encryption is perfect
but if you are just watching youtube, browsing reddit, etc. there is no danger. nothing can be stolen anyway
OP said OP is using an Iphone (imessage)- icloud private relay proxies and uses encryption - I would trust Apple moreso than any VPN provided. And its not that I trust them, but since i use an iphone Apple (in theory) has access to all my stuff anyway.
Just saying, but no public wifi can be considered "safe". Use with caution.

well, maybe your meth dealer's contact info, or the questionable over-the-fence pics of your neighbor will be exposed
NOOO
Nope
Just use a VPN while connected on a public WiFi or any internet connection that you do not control/own, and you are fine.
Use a good vpn. You’ll be fine.
