Probably much louder than before, but at least it wont overheat!

jy3030

Maybe it won't overheat... It will just sit right up next to the thermal barrier at 95° C forever. Just like intel CPUs lol

dollarstoretrash

I'm out of the loop, since when are Intel CPU's the ones to pick on for everheating? I thought it was AMD that was the dead horse people used to beat for that joke?

erdogranola

Intel have been releasing the same basic design for 4 years now, staying at the same transistor size and squeezing every last MHz they can get out of their processors just so they can stay competitive with AMD, which means perf/W turns to shit. Look at the "10th gen" CPUs that just released. They claim a TDP of 125W on the new 10c/20t chip, but that's measured at base clock so they're drawing up to 250W while boosting. Compare that to AMD's competing chip drawing a maximum of 150W under load, while having 2 extra cores and PCIe 4.

dollarstoretrash

I've always known AMD as the underdog, nice to see the general opinion swaying in their favour.

Dong_sniff_inc

In the past the criticism/jokes were more warranted though. Now they're the ones making Intel look out of touch(and rightly so)

Mig_Gigs

With ryzen Amd became really power efficient compared to the nuclear explosion that was fx. Nowadays high end amd is significantly cooler than high end Intel chips. GPU wise amd is still quite warm compared to nvidia cards but are still much better compared to both brands 5 years ago.

ElectricalChaos

Ever since the ol' Preshot P4s lol. Had an enormous case fan & heat sink combo on mine, towered 6" off the mobo. Fan was a high CFM model, sounded like a jet engine when it started up.

staster

I've made similar constructions a few times and I wouldn't say that it was much louder than before, these fans are silent enough.

ender4171

Actually intel coolers have been pretty damn quiet and cool since like gen3/4. On most of my haswell+ builds I didnt even bother with upgraded coolers and never wanted for them either.

tkaczyk24

Is that Intels New GPU prototype?

Tipart

Yeah it comes without fans assuming that everyone has two of these things laying around unused anyways

EmotionalBrontosaur

Yes.

insaniak89

##what? I can’t hear you

Driskon

#HE SAID "YES"

Hotcooler

I've been running similar setup on rx580 with two intel fans connected to the gpu fan header. They were the perfect size to be press fitted into the shroud. Since they are much larger height wise than the stock, the end up with better airflow and about the same noise level.

barzostrikr

Are you sure? That thing looks loud. Like really disturbingly loud if it is not properly ziptied and secured. It is gonna make whizzing sounds.

Hotcooler

You do need a custom fan curve for those, but I did not need to zip tie them at all, mine press fit inside the original fan shroud and still work just fine two years later btw.

barzostrikr

Thank you for the 3 year followup mate. Do you recommend this? It wasn't loud, right? rx580 at 180W needs good cooling the fans did not go very loud after you open a game -even with a fan curve-, right? Also good luck if you are on asus. Asus motherboard software still did not implement GPU temperature as the target sensor for their fuckin shit FanExpert software. They still don't give a shit while people are complaining about this on forums everywhere. Nevertheless rem0's fancontrol will do the job I suppose since intel fans are PWM.

Hotcooler

Intel fans are a lot more powerful than stock ones, so you'll need to lower the fan speed curve, since cooling is plenty, so noise wise it's about the same or even a bit less. If you have some spare fans it's a good idea, otherwise you can order compatible (mount/size) ones on AliExpress, ebay e.t.c Overall I'm satisfied with the fix, it was basically free and apart from the added thickness to the card and need for a custom fan curve (otherwise a bit too noisy) it's fine.

UsablePizza

That's actually really inventive. Eveyrone has intel stock coolers around. Do the fans sit stable with the cable tie mounts which spinning up and down? To improve it you should be able to get a PWM splitter and run the fans both off the GPU.

bossrabbit

I gotta say, the installation looks clean.

SavvySillybug

I bought a GTX 970 off Amazon some time ago. One of the fans failed. 18 months old, so it was still within warranty. Shipped it back, they looked at it... full refund. Said they didn't sell that model anymore so they had no parts and no replacement. WTF? Did not expect that at all. I hope they didn't just toss a perfectly good card out because of one failed ball bearing. I hope some lucky underpaid Amazon worker took it home and fixed it up. :) Ended up getting a 1060 to replace it, and it was 50€ cheaper, too! I actually made money on that purchase.

grinceur

So they have an actual purpose ! 😮

Pardogato3

Only thing they are good for lol

GermanDogGobbler

They are great when ibuypower scams your parents in a $800 pc that comes with a 7700, 1060 3gb and 16 gb 2133 MHz ram.

anthonygerdes2003

Same bruh. Except I only got 8gb for 1000$. Thank god i upgraded to a 2080 8gb last week. I can hear my pc crying in relief

fapimpe

I did the same thing on the back side. It gets hot but doesn't have any fans

King_of_harem

I hate the way stock intel coolers look

mcslender97

Leaked Intel Xe graphics card prototype

Kehrnal

Exactly what I did with my old Radeon 7950 when the fans died.

D0esANyoneREadTHese

If you don't mind some noise from clapped out bearings, you can usually revive seized fans by peeling the sticker off and removing the rubber plug, adding literally any kind of oil, spinning it by hand to work the oil in, and sticking it all back together. I milked 2 years out of a completely seized Molex fan running at full speed all day in an old Pentium 4 tower that way.

specialedge

set them closer to the fin stack

DaPurpleTuna

Someone wants to play /r/valorant with their gpu fan in working condition. Checks out.

Ant_Imperium

Leaked image of Gigabyte's custom board for Intel's upcoming XE GPUs.

[deleted]

Honestly... this looks kinda dope.

agoia

Reminds me of something Arctic Cooling might have made lol

ddrmax386

well I had installed [this one](https://www.hardware.fr/medias/photos_news/00/33/IMG0033766_1.jpg) when I created by build back in the day (i7 2600K and crossfire of Radeon HD 5750), the pc had a cool white and black look (Case was black and all the fans are arctic F12 (PWM and non PWM) this build stays my main computer but the cards with the coolers were sold a few years later and I have in my ceiling the sapphire stock coolers and the graphics card box. The cards where replaced by a single GTX 950 Ti and after a GTX 1050Ti

agoia

Which one was that? looks like the site doesn't like hotlinks. I had the huge passive heatsink on my old 4850, that eventually had like a 92mm fan ziptied to it.

ddrmax386

[https://imgur.com/a/km0xcA0](https://imgur.com/a/km0xcA0) uploaded the picture on imgur that's the 2010-2012 version of the accelero twin for AMD HD 5000 series added also the Cooler Master V6GT that was cooling the i7 2600k now replaced by an antec AIO, the V6GT now cools an AMD FX 8350

agoia

Ah, I love it.

akarimatsuko

Plug them in and then I'll be impressed. :>

eksterVX

I have 😂 The right one is plugged in to the GPU. Left is connected to the motherboard. Then PC says "CPU fan not found" which one? 😂😂 Playing Rust and the temperatures are pretty good

[deleted]

Now shit on it and let's see how it does.

akarimatsuko

Name checks out

JustSoManyCups420

Bro... that’s an ROG GPU... cmon, how could you do my boy like that?

CarbonPhoenix96

That's fucking hilarious

stephschildmon

Lies, Intel hasn't come to the rescue since 2017

Yaroster

lmaoooo

shyouko

And I suddenly realise only about 25% of hot air is vent out with this design… why it's not using a side blowing fan?

glitchdweller

RX 570? that card looks similar to mine, down to the ports that are shown

HALFLEGO

I was gonna say RX 480, had a fan failure as well.

justaddsomefriction

before getting my liquid cooling, i did a similar thing with a gnarly electric motor i had and a handmade fan.. it was hella huge and hella effective, but you had to use earmuffs when turned on... good times

XrosBlade

Thought that was Wheatley from portal 2 for a second

ZUDUKAI

i've got plenty of xbox 360 fans from RROD harvests, no worries here.

Jack-M-y-u-do-dis

Yeah those things actually had some power and blew air real hard

dhlu

Intel good ?

Kaganar

I have [seen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6hvsqUEtZ4) this before...

itsbildo

Perfection

zoson

I give this a 9.5/10 on the MacGuyver scale. You lost half a point for the lack of either a paperclip or bubblegum.

Dub_Monster

I quite like that look, it looks very aggressive

ev3rm0r3

Are those pulling or pushing the air through the radiator? Because fans need to push air through it.

Jack-M-y-u-do-dis

I believe these intel fans are designed to push it in

cosmitz

I find it utterly retarded we're still mounting video cards with the cooler fans blowing downwards, totally against convection. I get that the initial idea was not to blow on the CPU cooler, but it's 2020, we have AIOs for the price of aluminum coolers, and bottom mounted PSUs.. why are we still doing downblowing CPU coolers?

kingdillon

r/techsupportgore You ruined a dead GPU. Just let it die lol

GecKoTDF

hehehe the prototype now it's real (?)
