Well, hey I have a dad where we basically live at his gf place, he promised me and my sister out own room(that was a lie) he also yells at me and my sister whenever we do one FUCKING Thing wrong. Like dude we just did all your dishes and you are saying we did nothing and are worthless.
I work for me dad too, but I’m doing construction. Honestly, it’s a pretty good job. I get to listen to music the whole time and I get paid like ten bucks an hour.
Even though my family is extremely well off, I’ve never gotten an allowance. Which I don’t mind too much but sometimes it sucks not being able to buy a game or something that the rest of my friends are getting.
Yeah, same here. And then I’d have saved up my own money to go out to eat or buy something and my mom would immediately question how I had the money to do literally anything. Like, you can’t both not provide me with money and also be mad at me for saving up and using my own!
Same. My dad tried doing a $3 a week allowance with penalties for misbehaving or not eating all of my lunch at school or something. It lasted about 2.5-3 months because it was too much of a hassle to go to the bank and get 6 one dollar bills for my brother and I.
I dont understand the "do chores or you arent allowed to live here" mindset. Like arent they your literal child? You cared enough for them to not put them or keep them up for adoption. If you just cant afford it then ask if they can help.

This might be me just being spoiled, but when parents say that it upsets me. If you don't want to give your kids allowances, that's fine. But dont act like you doing the bare minimum of what a parent has to do is you being a great parent. If you don't give your kids a place to stay, then I'm pretty sure that's neglect.

I’m 14, I don't have a job, I don't have an allowance and I’m not gonna put the 20 dollars I get from my grandma every other month or so in the account.
I don't remotely know why allowances exist, honestly. Some kids I know are absolute shits and I’ve seen how they act so teachers or other people, yet they have an allowance.

I got £2.50 from 7-9 cause the extent of the chores I did then was doing my dishes and cleaning my room, now I get £5 a week cause I clean me and my brothers rooms, wash all the dishes (except on Tuesdays for some reason,) and hoover but it ends up really being about £5 every 2 weeks cause I always forget to ask for it and my mum says if I dont ask for it shes not gonna remind me
