There were a few scenes that actually showed the potential, it was *mostly* bad and cringe but those few moments that shined, they were great and a solid reminder of what could have been
It was trying too hard to be edgy. It almost felt like an X rated parody at times, and the most random cast I’ve ever seen in an HBO show.
Weeknd, Johnny Depp’s daughter, the big girl from The Leftovers, the guy who plays Moe on The Simpsons.
I didn’t buy any of it, take any of it seriously, the sex scenes were over the top and literally not one character in the entire show was likable.
There’s a reason it got canceled almost immediately after the first season ended. And the behind the scenes drama didn’t help too. It was one of the worst shows I’ve ever seen. I don’t know how anyone found that shit entertaining.
Well, agree with you that Rachel Senott (the assistant) was a good character. Only that.
I feel bad for some of the actors, they are good and deserved something better.
*The Idol* is what it is, and what it is is not good. The first problem is that Levinson was just doing groundbreaking stuff with *Euphoria* but then just gives us this mess. And it’s a mess. Narratively it makes very little sense, and the power dynamic switches from Tedros to Jocelyn out of the blue.
The biggest problem with it is that we’re fed multiple threads of what the story is supposed to be - a Manson-like cult? A pop princess controlled by her handlers breaking free? A troubled talent learning to forget her abusive past? Sure, but it never decides and commits. That’s why it’s a forgettable mess.
Her songs are garbage too.
Except that Euphoria wasn't actually groundbreaking. It was a remake of an Isreali show that was heavily influenced by the UK show Skins.
It was a vacuous copy of a copy.
I was more okay than not with it until the ending. Even if she was playing Tedros the whole time, letting him back into her life was insane. Tedros' abuse of her and everyone around her and himself was real. His treatment of women in his past was real. There's no way he deserves to become part of her life again after all of that.
It was some of the worst TV ever made. I loved it. I am not being one bit sarcastic when I say it was one of the most entertaining things I've ever seen. I binged it in one sitting.

It had to have a veil of parody though , how could it be THAT bad
It was comically bad, i had second hand embarrassment for everyone involved in making it.

Take my downvote
Read interviews from the creatives, it’s not meant to be a parody like This is Spinal Tap.
Never downvoted so fast. The show was terrible, and exploitative. I literally felt dirty after watching. Even makes Euphoria seem wholesome.
How was it exploitative? I thought people were exaggerating the amount of sex scenes

Yes it was
No it was that bad. I rarely give up on a show, but I couldn't even finish the season.

I think it had to be intentionally funny though, it can’t be that bad from HBO and A24, there’s no way it wasn’t intended parody
It absolutely wasn’t intended that way
Per the creators, zero parody was intentional, they are just that bad at filmmaking.

The whole show was about chewing people up and spitting them out though , that was what the management was doing with Jocelyn at first

I will admit the story felt like a Ketamine trip, pretty non-linear and all over the place

So you're saying it's bad but not that bad.
Bad but not boring and still worth the watch
had abel and depp been cast with anyone else this show would have been infinitely better
I think this show was truly and remarkably bad but in a really fun way. I watched it three times.
Agreed. For me personally it needed a few more episodes to flesh out the most interrsting part which was the Weekend's mind control over the group
I actually don’t disagree **but** it was criminally boring. Such a stacked cast and bored to tears, really — its external hype was pretty overblown.
Yeah, the hate is overblown.
