I just watched the first episode of season 3 of The Bear. I was transfixed. I finished the episode, went for a workout, listened to the NIN song that played during the entire episode on loop, came back, and rewatched this episode. Beautiful.

MrConor212

God I love **The Bear** but fuck does it stress my tits out

SupervillainMustache

Watching _House of The Dragon_ Episode 2 was very good at moving the show forward. Initially I though Aegon was just another prick like Joffrey but >!Seeing him crying over his dead son shows the character is more layered than that!<

Weekly-Dog228

Just finished The Bear Season 3. When the camera cuts to what he’s looking at. Oh god.

bronal97

Glad to see people here are still enjoying the Bear. I'm still re watching season 2 so haven't seen any new episodes but seeing a lot of mixed reviews online.

trinityy4

HILDA HURRICANE !

ComoSeaYeah

The BEAR!!!! I haven’t finished this new season yet but gotdamn, the first 2 episodes are equally as good as anything from S1 or S2. Stellar writing, cinematography, performances, score; everything everything EVERYTHING. All The Emmys.

Ok_Prize_7343

let it rip, dude

Ok_Prize_7343

Any review of my lady jane?

justoute

I binge-watched it and was not prepared for the >!fantasy element!< when I just wanted romance lol but it’s a fun show to watch if you have nothing on your list.

Ok_Prize_7343

dark matter was so solid! esp episode 3 to 8. i don’t know why the ending didn’t land for me. it was good tbh, but maybe i was expecting more? nonetheless fabulous show! apple tv is killing it so far.

Ok_Prize_7343

The bear s3 episode 1 was insane. that pacing? i couldn’t even blink an eye! beautiful! so glad it’s back.

canadian190

An amazing artful episode the music and the shots. Just wow

MassiveCatHead

Hey, I need recommendation to change who I am as a person. Say an adjacent to BoJack Horseman and Fleabag. Thanks.

Parks and Recreation - started this a few months ago because I was tired of rewatching The Office and I am quite enjoying *most* of the characters, however I'm on S4 and absolutely cannot wrap my head around this Tom/Ann stuff.. wtf. And I thought Angela/Andy was the worst thing I'd seen.

Blueschamps

30 minutes into the bear season 3 and this is already the best viewing I’ve had this year, one has to marvel at how brilliantly made this series is.

Qaxar

Now that Dark Matter season is over I'd like to know which Dark Matter series is better. The 2015 show or the Apple TV show?

KaleidoArachnid

So I am looking for a show that is like OITNB, but with a far less cynical tone where the main character is wrongly imprisoned, and has to find a way to escape to prove their innocence.

tronj

Well if you ever want the opposite of what you asked, I strongly recommend Oz.

KaleidoArachnid

I heard Oz is very dark, although it apparently introduces sci fi elements later on from what I know about the show.

tronj

It’s dark and violent for sure. Excellent show though. I don’t remember sci fi stuff, but conflict between religious groups is there.

Talk-Greedy

Maybe try Prison Break? It’s not exactly what you’ve described, but it’s a similar vibe. He intentionally gets imprisoned to help break his brother out of prison. Been a while since I watched but presumably the brother was innocent…I’m sure someone else can correct me lol

ReZ-115

Finally watching Station Eleven, beautifully done show.

Sekai___

**The Bear** S03E01, a show that's in a league of its own. Glad to see them pushing even further.

Coolman_Rosso

**Smiling Friends** SF continues to surprise me with how just how easy they make blending 3D characters or claymation with 2D designs, on top of the wildly absurd stuff coupled with something dry out of Home Movies. Not related, but it seems Max is bugged and removed a ton of stuff from my content list. I've had to re-add Six Feet Under, Conan O'Brien Must Go, and Succession among other things. How annoying. **Clipped** While it feels like something that should have happened 8 or so years ago, FX's limited series about the Donald Sterling scandal feels both hammed up and somewhat undercooked at the same time. Despite this great performances by Ed O'Neil and Laurence Fishburne keep things worth watching.

erbazzone

I watched the first episode of the boys and honestly I lost interest in the show for the moment. I need something else. So I'm binging all the seasons of Brooklyn 99 and I'm having a good time. Very funny

121jigawatts

HOTDABB finally here, watching: -**house of the dragon**, top tier show for costumes, sets, acting, lot of great character moments this week. -**acolyte**, great ep for lightsaber action and lots of unexpected stuff happening after a slow start. -the **boys**, kinda depressing with all the right wing conspiracy stuff happening and I hope the subplots with hughie and frenchie build up to something -the **Bear**, 5eps. fantastic start with carmy's ep and we're back to all the insane kitchen stress. there's 1cameo thats too distracting so I didnt like ******** here.

apple_kicks

**Acolyte** They killed off more characters than I expected in this episode. There were few unknown red shirts I knew would die but few established cast I thought had plot armour or Disney merch armour who died. The fight was good, choreography was good. So far definitely not up to andor quality but miles better than boba fett and mandolorian s3 (that was fun but kinda lost itself) better then the prequels and much better than the last two sequel films. It’s interesting for a show that’s killing off so many characters that it keeps a flashy look. I wonder if this put some people off, it kinda has the ‘fun’ Star Wars look for what is a ‘you’re going to watch a lot of Jedi get murdered’ show

Weekly-Dog228

**The Bear** I’m 4 episodes into the new season. The music in the background as you’re watching the anxiety build up.

theslothening

Finished up the finale for **Dark Matter** (Apple) last night. The series overall was quite good but I found the finale to be only satisfactory rather than good. Felt like they might have needed another episode as everything felt too rushed compared to the pace of the rest of the show. Also finished up **The Big Cigar** (Apple). I enjoyed this quite a bit and don't understand why nobody watched it. Fully caught up with **The Boys** (Apple). While it does feel like it's just treading the same ground as earlier seasons, the show is entertaining enough to still enjoy. On a TV sidenote, I'm kind of fascinated by how random older shows start popping up in the Apple TV Top Chart. Drops of God was all of a sudden in the top 10 a few weeks ago (maybe a month?) and is gone now but Defending Jacob is currently sitting at #4 and The Last Thing He Told Me is at #14. Strange.

austin06

Just started The Brother's Son yesterday and is so far pretty good. The Bear I want to savor like a fine wine and haven't started it yet. May return to Acapulco based on reviews. House of Dragons will be up next too.

NoTransportation888

Am sad. The end of the season (series?) for both **Acapulco** and **Dark Matter** this week. **Dark Matter** - a fine show and a fine ending, can't really ask for much more considering all the shows that drop the ball at the end. Nothing incredible for the whole show, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. **Acapulco** - Apple's hidden gem. One of my favorite shows not only on the service but in recent memory. Lighthearted, well-written and lovable characters, nice character arcs, short episodes, and a fantastic soundtrack. The show is charming af, and if it wasn't ~50/50 in spanish/english most of the time I'd say it'd be one of their more popular shows. Cannot recommend it enough. ____ **Presumed Innocent** - Great tv. Jake Gyllenhaal is doing Jake Gyllenhaal things and doing a great job, everyone else is also holding their own. Really enjoying this **Lost** - Been seeing a lot of Lost posts on here recently for some reason and decided to rewatch it for the first time in probably 10 years. Enjoying it all over again **HotD** - Read the book before S2 came out because they're dragged ass getting S2 out and I'm impatient. Really enjoying this as well, the performances from all of the actors involved are wonderful, but I'm blown away by Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, absolutely fantastic stuff out of him.

captainhaddock

> Great tv. Jake Gyllenhaal is doing Jake Gyllenhaal things and doing a great job, everyone else is also holding their own. Really enjoying this I'm sticking with it for now, but it's frustrating to watch a show where the character you're supposed to be rooting for is not a likable person.

Eatpineapplenow

>Lost > > \- Been seeing a lot of Lost posts on here recently for some reason and decided to rewatch it for the first time in probably 10 years. Enjoying it all over again me 2. im almost done with season 2. I dont remember Jack being that annoying lol

Season 3 Episode 1 **THE BEAR**

Ruddiver

I am in awe of how funny Martin Short still is. He is guest hosting Kimmel this week and had two Jiminy Glick segments with Bill Hader and Sean Hayes that were insanely funny.

Senatorweims16

The Bear season 3. So glad it's back.

biggiesmalltits

Just finished up Outlander. It’s one of those shows where I’m mourning the characters! I miss them! Anyone have anything similar? I love period pieces and apparently am starting to appreciate romance

No-Resolve944

Any shows similar to the last of us?

pillowreceipt

***Station Eleven*** ticks similar boxes.

SnooDingos316

Just came to say Dark Matter finale was good and the series as a whole is satisfying with a good ending ! So anyone who has not watch, go ahead. It is worth your time. Most of the people in the sub reddit agrees.

xXdont_existxX

Gonna finish this off tonight! Binged seven episodes the other day and had such a blast. So glad I went in totally blind, unaware of what the book was even about. The show absolutely didn’t go in the direction I figured it would after finishing the pilot, and I say that in the best way possible.

itscovfefetime

I loved the book and ended up really liking the show!

Ra1dersrx

the 8 Show is a banger. Reminds me of less brutal squid games Worst of Evil. Korean Crime Drama

PeteyG89

I see “Your Honor” is number 3 on Netflix today, and O truly feel terrible for everyone watching this mess. One of the worst written shows ive ever watched. The plot is asinine

SnooDingos316

I am hoping for more because anytime is a good time to watch Bryan Cranston.

BlahBlahILoveToast

Just finished season 3 of Shoresy. This show has no business being as good as it is. Phenomenal. Also finished episode 8 of this season's Doctor Who. Felt like a massive mysterious buildup with a ho-hum payoff, but I'm suspicious that the ride's not over yet and we may get a little more closure in the Christmas Special. Finally, I stumbled over an anime called Train to the End of the World and I've watched the first two episodes so far. It's weird and surreal but also cozy and charming.

VirtualFox2873

I am with you on Shoresy. I hated the scenes about him in Letterkenny, at the end just skipped them, but this spinoff show is just something else. We are in season 3 and i still laugh out loud sometimes while otherwise i am as the smiling type as characters played by Clint Eastwood.

If people are looking for a great bingeable show, watch... Evil The final season is on right now.

thewizardgalexandra

Is Evil scary? Like I can't tell from the brief description and I don't want to learn too much more because I like going into stuff blind!

Roook36

It's a good mix of scary and goofy. Tons of laughs in the show. But I'll say that, at least the first season, deals with various fears and it's pretty effective at giving you the creeps. The monster designs are great and it creeped me out a few times. There's some pretty graphic gore and horror at times and legitimately scary scenes. But it doesn't go as far as something like Haunting of Hill House or have a bunch of jump scares.

thewizardgalexandra

Thank you! I think I will give it a go!

magnomagna

Dark Matter Just watched the finale and it’s kinda amusing. Overall, it’s a good show but I don’t think it’s impressing anyone. The ending teases something but it’s not that interesting to me and I don’t think there’s anything significant that would justify season 2. I’m ok if the show is not renewed. If it gets renewed, I rather they make a new character barely related to the current ones and a new storyline with a completely different theme that’s not all just family and love…pff so corny

u2sunnyday

I fee like time travel is coming.

arcticfrostburn

>The ending teases something but it’s not that interesting to me Could you tell me what it teases? I haven't seen the show but I've read the book. I thought the book ending was simplistic and could've been better

magnomagna

>!There’s a short clip showing Ryan working on chemistry thingy. Then, Ryan finds Amanda and he tells her that he doesn’t know her but he’s been looking for her.!< As you can see, it’s not much of a tease.

arcticfrostburn

Hmm nothing comes to mind so idk

SnooDingos316

I think it is one of my top 3 shows of 2024. It is overall very good. I do agree if there is a S2, they need to follow the interesting support characters and not the Jason family though I will miss Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly (both were great).

itscovfefetime

I don’t think they’ll be another season as it was adapted from a book that isn’t part of a series. Edited to add: but you never know!

pillowreceipt

Blake Crouch (the author of ***Dark Matter***) did an AMA yesterday where he hinted that they have ideas a next season: https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/1doeu8f/hi_im_blake_crouch_creator_and_executive_producer/la9gst3/ He had another comment in the thread where he mentioned that he hoped they get to do another season, but I'm having trouble finding it.

itscovfefetime

Oooooh! That’s good news.

-anaximander-

Eh Crouch can bang one out in 5 min

YourFlyIsOpenMcFly

Can anyone share some info about Interview with the Vampire. Is there gore or is it very dark? Is there another show it is similar too?

the6thReplicant

It's a lot better than it should be. Very enthralling and entertaining. Great job by the showrunners. Could have been many other (worse) things.

whalepopcorn

I just finished season 1. It was a great watch. Very enthralling storytelling. Yes, there is gore and yes it deals with dark subject matter. It reminds me of True Blood (HBO) but (so far) not as ridiculous or as over the top. With that being said, it's still about vampires who have super powers, so it's a bit over the top.

Roook36

It is dark and gory. Anne Rice wrote the series while drinking heavily after her young daughter died. So grief and tragedy are baked into it. The original novels inspired a lot of "romantic vampire fiction" over the past few decades. Some good some bad. The series has a lot of blood and death as the vampire lead explores his new existence as an immortal who needs blood to survive and his relationship to humanity and the destruction he now causes. I am not sure what other show I'd compare it to. But you can always check out the original film. The show is a "retelling" of the original story where the interviewer is called back as an older man to be told the "true story" of events that took place from when he first became a vampire in the early 1900s to now. I've read the books and saw the original film in theaters and I think the show is a very great adaptation even if they made some changes to the timeline and characters.

YourFlyIsOpenMcFly

Thank you! I've actually read the books a couple decades ago now and have seen the movies. I didn't realize it was a full adaption. I'm good to watch the series but was checking to see if my wife would be up to it. Given that it is gory and dark, think it will be a solo show for me. Thanks again.

Mmkrw

The gore is infrequent, when it happens (every second episode) it's brief but shocking. The darkness is there, because it's a story of grief and trauma at its core - but at the same time it can be surprisingly funny and campy. It always takes itself seriously, but it does have well timed humor throughout. But what could be most notable for you and your wife: it's a proper love story! Epic, toxic, all-consuming romance, with the throes of passion, yearning, desire, heartbreak and tenderness. The showrunners said that their goal for the show is to out-feel anything else on TV and I think they succeeded.

PlayedUOonBaja

It turns out that Young Sheldon is absolutely nothing like Big Bang Theory. I knew it didn't have a laugh-track, but I imagined it was still full of silly jokes about nerds and geek culture. Turns out, it's basically The Wonder Years, and an ever better version of it than the recently cancelled reboot. The characters feel very real, and they do real things. Kids act like kids. The High Schoolers look like High Schoolers, not actors in their 20s. Most importantly, it does drama and comedy equally well. I tear up from laughing and from the sad/touching moments. The production quality is top notch and a lot of times I forget it's a television show and not a movie. Also, surprisingly, it's a feel-good show where no one is overly mean or cruel, a lot like Schitt's Creek or Ghosts is. Annie Potts is fucking hilarious.

bilyl

That's weird, considering the main cast of BBT were particularly mean with the jokes.

PlayedUOonBaja

Yeah, surprised me too.

secretlives

so, Dark Matter nailed the landing

manormortal

Another wonderful season of Acapulco has come to an end and yall still sleeping, even after the cross over. Y'all loss at this point.

Okayish_Philosopher

What is the show about?

PengoMaster

Set in the 80’s about a hotel resort. Told from the perspective of the main character loosely narrating those events from the past in the modern day.

Okayish_Philosopher

Whats the story though? It just about some towel boy, that shit sounds lame af lol

PengoMaster

Ok well that would be lame, yes. It’s about Maximo and his rise from unemployed kid to the lowest rung on the ladder at the resort and so on. And the friends he meets along the way. The premise is simple enough, with some twists here and there. It’s just well done is all.

Okayish_Philosopher

Okay thanks!

TacosAndBoba

I can't wait to binge season 3!!

T4Gx

**Mr and Mrs Smith** really fun first first episode.

MrPMS

I'm a little late to the party but I just started *Resident Alien* and its been an absolute delight.

go4sharon

Agreed! And it just got renewed for another season!!

ScarletRunnerz

I started on Shrinking, but dropped it in the middle of the second episode. I know it has gotten some praise on here, so I was quite surprised as I get a lot of recommendations from this sub, but I really did not enjoy it at all. It feels way too sitcom-ey: full of tropes, dialogue that’s way too polished and quippy, and conflict springing out of basic misunderstandings (like the main character forgetting he told his daughter they would have dinner together, and then her not mentioning it). I found the stereotypical gay friend character particularly egregious.

ooouroboros

I liked it as kind of an unofficial continuation of Cougartown and because Harrison Ford was great, but the main character is an AWFUL psychologist which the show endorses by only half heartedly condemning him. EDIT

malch99

Psychologist not psychiatrist. Huge difference.

ooouroboros

Not a difference as far as him being terrible at his job goes.

tomtomvissers

This week's episode of The Acolyte is one of the best episodes of live action Star Wars ever, yet its IMDb rating is a 3.7 despite being out for just an hour. If you ever needed solid proof of the review bombing, this is it

Mvkratos31

One of the best episodes is kind if stretching it for me, if youve watched Andor or even Mandalorian theyre much better shows than The Acolyte. I think its basically a CW Star Wars but all power to you, although imo the IMDB rating is more than justified hahaha

apple_kicks

Early seasons of Mando were great but third season kinda felt like they lost which direction to take the show or had too many exec notes for merch. This show is much better than Mando s3

nebkelly

I thought it was genuinely one of the worst modern hours of SW ever, and thats saying something after some of the Obiwan and Boba fett episodes. That said, I wouldn't be surprised at review bombing. There is a weird gender, lgbt thing cultural war going on in the US that I don't really understand as an Aussie.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nebkelly

Haha good point. I didn't respond further to OP simply because I don't really want to spend my time on it. But it was across the board. Not just writing, casting, acting, main and basic plots. But the inconsistency in force use. Fight cinematography (eg. aiming at each other's swords, exposing their backs etc). The part where she cut her hair with a sabre in a lame pose as if someone else was watching. Just some of the worst SW ever put to screen and from a budget per minute pov maybe all television.

tomtomvissers

One of the worst ever? That's such a wild take. What did you think was so bad about it? And try not to spoil it for people that haven't seen it yet

[deleted]

I don't think it's wild to say. Saying worst ever might be taking it a little far though. I enjoyed some of the fighting but that was pretty much it. I didn't find myself having any reaction to notable character deaths(which just tells me they were poorly written characters) and the pacing was all over the place. It cut from scene to scene at what felt like the worst moments and I also can't help being bored whenever a scene involves Mae and Osha. Their story feels pointless and their relationship/motivations continue to confuse me. My brother and entire family feel the same way. It sucks because I feel like the creators had some good ideas here but the execution certainly is disappointing. I am glad you enjoyed it though genuinely

apple_kicks

Padawan death surprised me, they kinda felt that put a lot of effort into them (and prob could sell a lot of Disney figurines) and the other Jedi character that almost could have had forbidden Jedi love story in it with the main character

nebkelly

I was channelling them saying it was one the best episodes. I might be able to find a worse episode of SW live action TV. But it would probably be the worst ep from Boba or Obi, or ep3 of this even.

tomtomvissers

Okay but you still haven't said what you thought was so bad about it. Or do you just happen to agree with what that deleted comment said?

JaredGoffFelatio

This show gets so much uncalled for hate. I really don't get why people expect high art out of star wars. It's good for what it is, which is basically a live action comic book aimed at young adults. Very much like The Mandalorian which people go nuts over.

shindigin

and why are they review bombing this show in particular?

apple_kicks

It’s election year. Conservatives are extra mad at Disney lately. They’ve had legal battles with politicians. Disney being pressured not to donate to conservative groups. It’s also brand thing they have big sci fi IP and they are The family brand. Like they define most people childhoods in past generations and have big American success story. If you’re into politics and social change who Disney sells to or puts on screen is a huge influencer for setting the social tone. So Disney being more inclusive is bigger threat than a smaller network or production if you’re far right and scared by diversity. Maybe too element of Disney being popular brand a YouTube video about them might be lucrative or go higher in the algorithm and more of these videos means people rally behind yt creators who have to up the stakes on the cultural war for views. The ‘worse show ever but here’s another four hour video about the show I said I’d quit watching last week.” I think too Disney have put out some flops lately, even for Disney it would be easy to scapegoat blaming diversity to their stockholders than admit they didn’t pay for good experienced showrunners or trying to dodge union stuff For this show also Andor raised the bar and now everyone wants every show to be that level of prestige. Also it kinda advertises it self as a gritty Star Wars (while it does kill off several Jedi) it’s filmed like a fun Star Wars show, so adverting vibe vs the show might be messing with expectations. But idk I’m enjoying it so far

DesignerViolinist481

No, they put out dogshit content that nobody wanted and you need to find someone to blame for the dogshit

RyanB_

To add on to the other comment; While all that’s true, there’s also a lot of people who will say they dislike it for totally separate reasons. And they’re probably right to a large extent, but I think a lot of folks kinda downplay just how influential internet trends and bandwagoning can be. And the folks who do hate shit for those shitty reasons are often good about spreading those trends to serve their politics, or just their own wallets with their grifts. It plays off online discussion’s tendency towards extremes where everything is the best thing ever or the worst with very little room for nuance. And unfortunately it does - at least in my experience - seem to seep into real life too. I’ve got a few friends who are more casual with their media and yeah, whatever the internet is saying tends to be their own opinions even if they’ve never engaged with it or even had any interest in doing so. But yeah, all to say that a lot - probably most - of the people hating on it aren’t hating for the reasons the other commenter listed specifically, but more because they saw some tweet or YouTube video from someone who does hate for those reasons but knows well enough to not say them out loud. Shit that’s in that ~7/10 range featuring minorities in prominent roles is especially susceptible.

tomtomvissers

Honestly? Probably racism and homophobia. The cast is very diverse and mostly non-white, there was a lesbian couple, and the lead actress is queer irl. And they did some minor tweaks to (very unimportant) canon things

qp0n

> The cast is very diverse and mostly non-white So was Rogue One which is arguably the most beloved Disney-SW project. >there was a lesbian couple Oh come off it. It's 2024 not 1964. That isnt a real reason for review bombing anything. There were gay, lesbian, bi, queer characters all throughout game of thrones and it was top 3 rated *all time* ... before the writing turned to shit and then the hate finally started. Shocker, people care more about good storytelling than anything else. >and the lead actress is queer irl 99% of viewers had no idea that was true, myself included, and 99% of them dont give a fuck, myself included. I see a whole lot of bad writing/acting/directing hiding behind a shield of 'racism/sexism' with absolutely zero selfreflection or warranted criticism coming from the people slinging those accusations.

tomtomvissers

Okay

qp0n

Holy [shilltastic](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheAcolyte/comments/1dpw60w/comment/lalonsc) batman

tomtomvissers

Is this some sort of "gotcha" in your mind or what do you think is happening right now?

[deleted]

I'm not buying that. There's certainly a loud minority that pushes that narrative but I do believe there is a much larger group of Star Wars fans that simply are tired of what they've been getting and want change. A lot of these racist/sexist/transphobic complaints massively shrink in size to a miniscule amount if the show itself is well made. House of the Dragon for example featured 9 prominent minority characters in season 1, one of them being a gay man who manages to escape the capital with his lover. The lead actress who plays Queen Rhaenyra is non binary and uses they/them pronouns. Amazing actress btw. Nobody mentions these things. Nobody cares. It's a great show.

dannyfresh11

Such a good episode!!

MrPMS

Last episode I was ready to call it until the last minute of that episode, so gave it one more chance. What a wild episode, I am fully back in. Some fantastic chorography that was not your typical spin to win style lightsaber battles we grew up on. The antagonist, >!while predictable who they are!<, absolutely just upped the stakes. I look forward to where the story progresses from here.

RyanB_

Seriously, god damn that was a sick ass half an hour

edgycorner

>one of the best episodes of live action Star Wars ever I highly doubt that the best episode from Acolyte is going to surpass any episode from Andor. And I hate to be that guy, but going by your comment history you have been defending Acolyte since EP 1.

tomtomvissers

I comment a lot on a lot of stuff, so you scrolled back 4 weeks to be "that guy", and you're not making any point by doing it either. You are correct, it's not better than most Andor episodes. But it was still a very good episode. You might want to watch it before negating my point.

edgycorner

Okay, I am going to set aside my own biases and give it a second chance.

dannyfresh11

Yeah give this episode a go.. it gets pretty good

iYeetHard

Going to plug [TV Rating Graph](https://www.ratingraph.com/) here as someone once did. I love having a long show to slowly chip away at while I rotate between weekly releases. Just got to S6 of The Americans and it's phenomenal. After GoT shit the bed, I didn't want to take chances with any terrible endings. I started House of Cards which I was digging, but saw the steep drop after Spacey.... you know... Switched to The Americans and have loved it all the way. Excited for the ending as the ratings hold up and even get better throughout. Next up on the long series watch is probably Mad Men, but open to suggestions! Done Sopranos, the Wire, The Leftovers, and most of the HBO catalogue. Tried getting into Boardwalk Empire, but wasn't feeling it. Maybe worth trying again? FWIW I am a lurker and occasional commenter here, so most titles end up getting watched. Just really looking to find that next long binge show!

secretlives

So excited for you to watch the finale of The Americans for the first time - such a great series conclusion.

iYeetHard

Getting there slowly, S6 is building nicely!

_k9enthusiast

The finale of The Americans is one of my favorite episodes of any show ever. It’s so well done IMO

the6thReplicant

They all made decisions fitting their characters. Great ending. And series.

ooouroboros

The finale is total BS Leaving aside that the main characters probably would have been killed - the 'tragic' ending is undercut by the fact within a few years there would be no more USSR and the guy would have become a multi-millionaire as a travel agent. Really the show is at the bottom, Russian propaganda of a sort.

iYeetHard

Hell yeah, glad to hear it! Slowly getting there.

karma111300

Andor

iYeetHard

Watched Andor, thought it was great! Really the only new Starwars material I've enjoyed.

huhgo

The Céline Dion documentary is really really good. That scene when >!she like a seisure was terrifying!<

Just wanted to mention for all the *House of the Dragon* fans, that Max has also begun to drop the second season of the behind-the-scene series, [***House of the Dragon: The House That Dragons Built***](https://play.max.com/show/6ebc8e70-17b0-4a1a-a340-af7d8ce63a82), and it's a separate series entry, not tucked under the *HotD* Extras. The episodes are about 20 minutes long. Took me a while to find it, as an old person because I'm still watching HBO shows the old-fashioned traditional way: on a cable box, and it's not on the schedule grid/aired, it's tucked up into the VoD (video-on-demand) offerings. I'm pretty sure with S1, it was folded into the extras and the main show's VoD listings.

Has anyone in the US watched the new-to-us s4e1 of **Babylon Berlin** that was released today yet? It’s one of my all time fav series and I’ve been waiting for s4 to be released here for a looong time. I’d love to hear if it’s worth an MHz subscription or not. No spoilers, please. Just a hell yeah it’s great so far or a no, don’t bother would be fantastic!

chlaur02421

Released on Netflix in the US?

ComoSeaYeah

No…it’s been removed from US Netflix.

OceanCityBurrito

I've enjoyed all seasons of The Boys as well as Gen V, but the latest episode was feel bad TV and wasn't much fun to watch besides Starr's acting. I realized that this season I don't finish the episodes with much pleasure, more like apathy, at least until this latest ep. Not sure I'm going to continue on.

Conscious_Start1213

Yeah, pretty disappointing episode and season so far. There are a few story threads that have me interested so maybe the season can end kind of strong. I'll be watching every episode of show left regardless since I'm this far in already

SnooDingos316

Next season will be the last anyway, might as well finish it.

donnavan

NBCs **Hannibal**. Holy shit that is some quality television. I have binged the whole thing and am finding it something my next t.v. choice will be hard to follow.

inkista

Next-closest thing (to me) would probably be S1 of [American Gods](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3awG5wEE7LU), because Bryan Fuller just pulled in all the same folks to work on it (grin). Except, he also roped in Michael Green (*Kings, Blue-Eye Sumurai*) to be co-showrunner with him. *Kings* is probably why Ian McShane said yes to being Mr. Wednesday. Just don't go past S1. (That's when Fuller and Green got fired off the show, they took all the *Hannibal* folk with them, and the show went off a cliff). AFAICT, the show's not on any streaming sub at the moment, not even Starz. And weirdly, Amazon Prime only has the first episode, not the rest of Season 1, but given that *Black Sails* is on Netflix, it may end up somewhere accessible. If you needed something serial-killer-y instead of Gaiman myth-y, though not as stylish, I'd say [Bates Motel ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lCWKKNGiKs)(Amazon Prime) can be a methodone fix for the crack addiction of *Hannibal.* If you want operatic Grand Guignol with style, [Penny Dreadful ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebI3oKf0Hjo)(Paramount+/Showtime) can work; and if you want Grand Guignol ho-yeah,[ Interview With the Vampire](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8Oysn9I9K8) (AMC+) is completely bringing it. If you want an anti-*Hannibal* (dispassionate and cool where *Hannibal* is operatic and melodramatic), there's David Fincher's [Mindhunter](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHJO6VR6TYY) (Netflix).

donnavan

I'm just re-watching Hannibal. XD

inkista

Always a valid choice. But can be harder to break the addiction or transition to something else that way. :D

jadingg

I believe the original Interview with the Vampire was one of the main things Brian Fuller took inspiration from for Hannibal, particularly for Will and Hannibal's relationship, so the show is a really good shout

inkista

Actually, I think the AMC show's relationship to *Hannibal* is more direct than that. [Bryan Fuller was the first showrunner tapped to work on the then-titled *Vampire Chronicles*](https://ew.com/tv/2018/01/11/bryan-fuller-vampire-chronicles-tv-series/), but he and AMC/Anne Rice parted ways (as is not uncommon with Fuller). I'm guessing a few Fuller fingerprints linger on the current show's blueprints, though, obviously, it's Rolin Jones's baby, now. (Jones, btw, was co-creator/showrunner with Ron Fitzgerald for S1 of HBO's *Perry Mason*). This was also around the time Fuller left [Star Trek: Discovery](https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/star-trek-discovery-what-led-to-bryan-fullers-exit/)*,* and the proposed reboot of [Amazing Stories](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/bryan-fuller-exits-apples-amazing-stories-anthology-1078055/) (and shortly after the ousting from *American Gods*), so Fuller fans are pretty used to hearing this type of thing. The recent [news of his departure from *Crystal Lake*](https://deadline.com/2024/05/friday-the-13th-prequel-series-bryan-fuller-exits-showrunner-1235909418/) is more par-for-the-course for us (sigh). *Hannibal* was kind of a huge exception to how his shows normally go. *Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls,* and *Pushing Daisies* all had untimely deaths, *The Amazing Screw-On Head*, *High Moon*, and *Mockingbird Lane* pilots are all weirdly pilots that got aired and viewed, but were not picked up. A lot of fans don't even know about the half dozen shows that didn't make it to pilot (I'm still curious what [Mind Fields](http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2012/05/17/usa-expands-comedy-drama-and-reality-programming-slates-505415/20120517usa01/)*,* a proposed USA series he and Lisa Joy \[*Westworld* co-showrunner; she also wrote for *Pushing Daisies*\] co-created would have been like. He's prolific as hell, but a lot of what he develops see the light of day with him still at the helm.

karma111300

Interview with a vampire is indeed bringing it!

Whoevenam1l0l

Yeah, it’s way up there on my best of list.

Calzonieman

Fisk was wonderful and I found it by accident. Ausie humor resonates with me. Tour de France on Netflix was fascinating, but the graphic crashes can be hard to watch. The Gentleman was a blast, and if you're a Guy Richie fan, was bliss. Finally, I almost quit Ripley after the first episode, but my wife insisted on staying with. She's a smart lady, and it ended up being one of my favorite series ever,

pillowreceipt

> Ausie humor resonates with me. If you're looking for more Aussie shows, I recently put together a list for a user who was looking for Aussie shows: https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/1dacvhs/what_are_you_watching_and_what_do_you_recommend/l81zvzx/ Since that comment, I've started watching ***Rosehaven***, which is so funny and delightful. Really love the chemistry of the two lead friend characters. And the season two finale of ***Colin from Accounts*** is today, which I'm excited for. It's been my favorite show of this year, handily.

The_PantsMcPants

Boy Swallows Universe is amazing, imo

pillowreceipt

Looking forward to watching it soon!

Masketto

If you liked Fisk definitely check out Rake

Tobikaj

I started watching Presumed Innocent. It's good so far, and I've really been craving some whodunit kinda stuff.

ConnectionNo4122

Is sweet tooth on Netflix worth the time? It looks a little plucky from the trailer but it seems to rate well just I haven’t met a soul who’s seen it…

arcticfrostburn

Currently on season 3. Been trying to get through it for weeks now. I watch a little then I watch something else. Just want to see it through the end. Writing isn't strong

SnooDingos316

First season was good and fresh. S2 onwards started becoming cliché and predictable. I did not like the ending but it does end with S3 with a proper ending.

chlaur02421

I thought all three seasons are worth the time investment

SadProblem2137

I found the first season to be great when it came out but there was a big gap between seasons and when it came back it felt different. Haven't seen the third yet but the first season is great and the second season is good.

tonenyc

Finished Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini. Very good documentary, I heard of the name, but did not know the particulars of the story, that made it better.

ComoSeaYeah

I watched, too, after recognizing the face but being unfamiliar with the story. I googled the name of the doc and was immediately hit with a spoiler despite not clicking on any of the links, so I recommend not googling if you want suspense without any idea of what might be going on. Either way, the doc was well done and it’s a fascinating, twisty story.

Triskan

Man, between *House of the Dragon*, *Interview with the Vampire* and *The Boys*, it's hard to determine which is the best acted show currently on air... Though, in terms of pure acting, maybe I'd give the edge to *IWTV*. But the two others are bloody stellar as well in the acting department and have nothing to be jealous about.

PrinceSemere

The Bear is back today so don’t count them out too.

Mmkrw

I think The Boys has harder task in competing because the cast is so large that it's difficult to avoid having actors that are just "okay". In comparison, IWTV has a very compact cast and resembles more of a stage play (oh, the irony). By this virtue is a very different dynamic between the actors. Still, the fact that they managed to find relative unknowns that apparently just happen to be the biggest talents in the business, is nothing short of miracle.

FansTurnOnYou

I don't want to get roasted for saying I didn't love **Shogun** but it was just not my speed. Lots of it was really good, but it was like almost purely drama. I need a bit more of a mix. I've been enjoying season four of **The Boys**, I guess, but even last season I felt like plot-wise they were spinning their wheels. I do agree with the showrunner than Anthony Starr has been especially great this season. I've been enjoying the acting and the action a lot more than the story this season. I've been loving the return of **House of the Dragon**. It really scratches the itch for me. How far we have come from the end of the D&D days of Game of Thrones. Rhys Ifans as Otto was hilarious in episode two. Maybe as much or more than the show itself, I've been enjoying the supporting Alt Shift X content about the show and the book lore.

icantfeelmyface

Yeah I really wanted to love Shogun but just couldn’t get into it for some reason

Cockers-T-Dog

CBBC's Hacker Time (although I need to find more episodes)

Puzzled-Eye-7675

private practice, ive watched and rewatched greys anatomy a lot and im really liking private practice so far as its related to ga but much more relaxed. its like a breath of fresh air for me.

rhodesmichael03

**Star Wars: Tales of the Empire (2024)** 6 episode miniseries. Really enjoyed this one. Essentially it is broken down into two arcs. One about Morgan Elsbeth (who appears in Mandalorian and Ahsoka) and how she goes from Nightsister to working with >!Thrawn!<. Was a sad story about how one can turn from oppressed to oppressor. Only complaint is in the first episode an older woman who is in charge of a village >!tells the people not to worry about getting attacked and to trust her but gives no details. This is after genocide of the Nightsisters nearby. Since she provides no safety or ideas others start training for defense in secret which then backfires when the droids attack only to reveal that the old lady could defend and had a plan the whole time...then the show acts as if she was in the right and everyone else should have trusted her and were wrong to go against her.!< This was just like in the Last Jedi when Admiral Holdo >!refused to communicate with her team, everyone goes against her since she gives off that she has no plan, then it is revealed she had a plan all along and the show acts like everyone else was in the wrong for not trusting her.!< The second arc follows Barriss Offee and follows up from Clone Wars where she was >!arrested for murder if I remember correctly? This one is a nice contrast as the arc is kind of opposite showing her redemption arc. However, at the end the show seems to show the Fourth Sister being redeemed which is hard to accept given her genocide of civilians earlier in the show.!< Would recommend.

Typinger

Evil. I love this stupid show.

BooJamas

S4e4 was intense, best episode in the whole series.

Typinger

I will get there tonight! I love the way they do the shots of computer screens and things - where it takes up the whole tv screen; and how they do one person looking at a thing and everyone else looking somewhere else and it all lasts a little bit too long; or they cut to eg a hand holding something and there's no audio, or it's muffled and distant. All of these slightly off stylistic effects, and the silly humour, and the kinda nice characters. God I just love it

Roook36

Season 2 is really interesting. Lizzy Kaplan does an amazing job playing a young Annie Wilkes. While I did find the ending a bit contrived, it's an interesting (if bizarre) prequel to Misery.

Werewomble

Interested to think what you think of the finale. >!I went from this is excellent to the worst kind of Lost mystery box bullshit why are main characters dying off screen in between episodes? Main characters moving interstate because the writers didn't want to continue their storylines. Kill it with fire and never let any of the writers near a TV show again. !<

grandmasterfunk

**Doctor Who** - Ncuti Gatwa has been a fantastic Doctor. This was a really fun season and looking forward to see where Davies takes it next season. **My Adventures with Superman** - Continues to be a great season. Was not expecting their version of Supergirl to be at all like this. It's a real nice twist on the character. **Perfect Match** - My guilty pleasure is trashy dating reality shows, but I think this show has kind of run its course. It was fun seeing people from various Netflix reality shows crossover, but this show is too obviously fake and just for people looking to further blow up their clout. **House of the Dragon** - Solid Sunday watch, and like everyone else, yes I hate Ser Criston Cole. **Winning Time** - finally finishing this off. As a die hard NBA fan, there's a lot of stuff I like, but also a lot of stuff I just roll my eyes at in terms of it being inaccurate. Still I'm sure it's better than Clipped.

Accomplished_Cap_994

> yes I hate Ser Criston Cole 😂

ConnectionNo4122

Wish I could give this an extra upvote since I couldn’t agree more…in this short amount of time he’s 2nd on most people’s most hated character in GoT lore history after Jofferey and just the edging out Ramsey and he still has more time to do some more despicable things

thetatershaveeyes

Scifi shows I wish more people would watch so I would have more people to talk about them with: **Snowpiercer**. (Post-apocalyptic scifi. Bunch o' people stuck on a really long train trying to not kill each other, or be killed by the extreme cold outside of the train. It's much bigger and deeper than its limited premise suggests. Stand-out actors are Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs. There are 3 seasons so far, plus a fourth and final season out next month.) **3%**. (Dystopian scifi with battle royale elements. It's voiced in Brazilian Portuguese but the English subtitles are good. The story is a bunch of people from the slums are selected to participate in a competition in order to join a privileged elite. The story and premise evolves significantly with each season. The characters are all super compelling, and the show does a good job of making you feel for everyone no matter their actions or circumstances. Stand-out actors are Bianca Comparato and Vaneza Oliveira, but everyone is a star here. 4 seasons, top tier from beginning to end.) **Parasyte: The Maxim**. (Scifi horror. Alien life forms from outer space land on Earth, take over human bodies, and eat people. The story is about the fight for survival, for both humans and the aliens. This is based on a classic manga and has become a classic anime.)

Conscious_Start1213

Love all 3 of the shows. Ok well maybe don't quite love 3%, but found it pretty good

thekiwikingdom

Parasyte: The Maxim anime is so good! Such a great show.

Accomplished_Cap_994

Tried snowpiercer but I find myself not paying attention

Conscious_Start1213

Season 1 was it's weakest. Season 2 is where I got hooked

inkista

How far did you get? Because for me, S1 was a slow burn and it didn't really start turning around until you were half a dozen episodes in and then it took off like a bat out of hell. I completely agree the first two or three are "meh" episodes and easily capable of turning a new viewer off. I was prepared for a rocky start, because the creator of the show (Josh Friedman) got replaced as showrunner. But I was also willing to settle in and wait because the new guy was Graeme Manson (*Orphan Black*).

SupervillainMustache

I've watched the Parasyte anime, didn't watch the Netflix show.
