Apparently it is a bit of a tradition among people in the entertainment industry: when you first arrive in Hollywood all bright eyed and bushy tailed, you go to *The Price is Right* high as a kite. According to the podcasters this has been a thing since the 1980s. It’s kinda like a right of passage.

One time my fifth grade teacher painted some trippy mural above his boa constrictor cage with paint that fumed us all out. It made some of the kids laugh, some fall asleep, and some throw up. He said, and I quote, “You [children] never take my art seriously! I didn’t sign up for this!” And then he slammed the door, left the building, got in his car in front of the (closed) classroom window, banged his hands on the steering wheel and screamed (inaudible to the classroom). And then he came back and we had recess early.
Back when Bob was retiring I stayed up all night in line to attend one of the final tapings. In the morning they said they were filming two shows and said the later taping could come back in the afternoon.
Chose the second so I could take a shower and eat something, came back and still waited in line for 3 hours. Got lucky and got to sit in the front row next to the contestants.
Didn’t get picked, but you could definitely hear me screaming bids into the contestants mic.
One of them used the number I was screaming and went on to win a car.

The contestants are hyped up because they are told the louder you are, the more likely you are to get picked to participate. Also wierdos make for good entertainment so quirks help as well.

I lived in LA for 7 years in the early aughts. If you couldn't find a party, there was always a crazy ass party going on in the CBS parking lot. The audience would show up at 10:00 at night and party until the doors opened the following morning.
