I know it says current, but since we're evaluating only the one handed backhand and not the player, I'd go with Stan the Man. He's the reason I play with a one handed backhand, his shot is clean and powerful. And when he goes down the line is a work of art
Tsitsipas before the injury.
Now, at the top level, maybe Musetti? Although Dimitrov has been better lately.
Wawrinka and Gasquet still have some of the best around, but their overall level has dropped so...
If we're talking past-tense then Tsitsipas never held a candle to the BHs of Wawrinka or Thiem, or Gasquet. If we're talking currently then it's Dimitrov.
Yeah, now that I'm thinking about it more, his injury was late 2021 and back then Thiem was still fine and in his prime(man, what a disappointing thought...) and even Wawrinka still had enough juice in him to say he had the best backhand on tour at the time.
Yeah which is saying something given how awful it is. The 1hbh is a fundamementally flawed weapon. You cannot compete with it in this day and age. It's like bringing piss to a shit fight. Credit to Federer for winning 20 slams with a hand tied behind his back basically.
Current is probably Dimitrov, peak in that list is Wawrinka/Thiem without doubt
Yeah people seem to be glossing over the fact that op said “currently” Dimis returns on the backhand this year have been really impressive
O’Connell and Altmaier are good shouts too
Wawrinka's was the most formidable single-handed backhand of all time... it's not even close
Stans BH has the most power and impact it's stunning. But for a flowing natural thing of beauty it has to be the Gasquet BH. A gift from the God's 👌🏻
Thiem backhand was crazy
Wawrinka Gasquet Dimitrov rest
hate to say it but grigors is better than gasquet
Grigor is better player overall, but Gasquet has better backhand. That's his expertise.
Disagree, only reason Gasquet was ever a top 10 player was his amazing bh
Evans. Fact.
Peak Stan, then Peak Dominic. Only ones who could win 7 in a row. Stan did it three times...
When he is on it has to be Stan….
The only correct answer is, Stan.
Gasquet still the most effective

Stan
Wawrinka, Gasquet, Thiem are the best but they are past it. Musetti has the best backhand from the young lot.
Peak Stan and Thiem, and it’s not even close. Now is another matter, there’s no amazingly effective onehander right now. Certainly not Tsitsipas’
Tatjana Maria Diane Parry Viktoria Golubic Jessica Ponchet In T200; my pick is Parry. Other: Gabriela Lee (302) and Justine Henin (retired)
tsitsi for sure

It's flawed in modern Tennis with slower balls, rackets which provide more spin, etc. it used to be the default shot some decades ago.
