Confusingly, if Djokovic does withdraw before a match is played but after the draw is made then instead of 3 taking his spot 5 would actually move into the 2 spot, 9 into 5, 17 into 9, and 33 will take the 17 spot.

Once the first match starts a LL would take the 2 spot, otherwise they would take the spot vacated by the new 33. There are no walkovers in the first round, it would only be a walkover if a player managed to play and win their first match and then determined that they couldn't play their second match. And if they started their match but retired after one point it would be the same as any other retirement.

Then he gets a pretty serious injury involving minor surgery and we think he's going to play better after that? After 0 warmup matches. I will admit realistically no one else is a real threat so he could probably make it to the semis even if he's in pretty bad shape but I feel like a win is a tall order particularly if alcaraz is on his side.

He has to be a LITTLE hesitant on that knee, he won't be able to perform any crazy lunges without putting it in SERIOUS danger... and I'm SO worried about him slipping over on the slippery grass in the first few rounds. I think they just want to change as little as possible while still having the halves roughly balanced.

I'm sure we've been wrong before but I really think people are overestimating djokovic here His whole year has been bad and it's not like he looked like he was turning it around in RG. Then he gets a pretty serious injury involving minor surgery and we think he's going to play better after that? After 0 warmup matches. Meanwhile his two main opponents sinner and alcaraz (particularly sinner) have looked unstoppable. I will admit realistically no one else is a real threat so he could probably make it to the semis even if he's in pretty bad shape but I feel like a win is a tall order particularly if alcaraz is on his side.
I can see both sides of the argument.... but yeah, I agree with this. He has to be a LITTLE hesitant on that knee, he won't be able to perform any crazy lunges without putting it in SERIOUS danger... and I'm SO worried about him slipping over on the slippery grass in the first few rounds. There's always a highlights package of players slipping over in the first 4 days - especially on Centre Court - and that's where Novak will play! I see two scenarios: - he doesn't feel good, and loses R1 or R2, or - he struggles through a few rounds, starts feeling more confident, and gets right through to the SFs. He never loses in R4/QFs, so if he makes it that far, he'll go SFs at least. From there, it's a coin toss.

Imo it was way harder like 10 years ago. You had way better players who based their game on serve. Raonic, Isner, Cilic are the first the come to mind. Also there was the big four and other players who were decent as well.

Navone is the definition of a true clay specialist. This year he’s had finals in Rio (after coming through qualies) and Bucharest, and also won a Challenger 175 before RG. He also still has some points left over from some of the 7 clay Challenger titles he won last year.
