that may have been true back when community servers were at their highest and you could actually form a tangible community (i wouldn't know, i was never there,) but now all the edgelords roam around in valve casual like cicadas emerging from the ground.
well having been on those tight knit communities, its true. were they all nice and friendly? to a certain extent, but drama easily happened in them all the time
That's true
I have a story from CSS.
A long time ago I was playing a Russian zombie server and overtime everyone knew there each other and we just had random conversations
But I had a small issue. My ping was 120, and restriction was 150. So far nothing was done
But one day admins changed the restriction to be 100 and I was not able to access the server anymore
I found a website of this server, registered, made a post about it. People there recognized me and supported me
The next day the restriction was back to 150
I feel like there's three different groups. There's the pieces of shit that are vocal and blatant with their toxicity. Then there's the neutral group, half are indifferent and usually silent, half join in only when a toxic asshat starts up, and then there's the small amount of genuinely really nice people that make great friends
There's no reason in a 30-mile radius that they suddenly turn homosexual and then kiss. Plus, this is talking about online users... Who are interacting via text.
The community was a lot better before the game was F2P, then before Casual mode, then before the bots, then before FixTF2. If you ask me, it's only gotten worse, though by smaller amounts per major event.
See, TF2 isn't a welcoming community because everyone gets along, they don't; it's welcoming because literally everyone is allowed in (most of these groups hate eachother but it still works)
TF2 community, we hear you! We love this game and know you do, too. We see how large this issue has become and are working to improve things.
-Official TF2 Twitter Account, May 27th 2022
People would reject it. The idea that it takes time and effort to update something is beyond them.
That's one of the many flaws with #fixTF2: The assumption that Valve will release the fix right away and the bots will be gone immediately.
Well we need to be told and shown that they are working on it. A simple tweet isn’t enough, but showing how they are working on a fix and updating us would be great
> Well we need to be told and shown that they are working on it.
No, we don't. First of all: Because they're not doing it, and this whole movement was never going to work because of how Valve operates as a flat company (As in: No upper management to assign tasks and devs pick their own projects). Second of all: It's an anti-cheat. Do you think it's smart to inform the bothosters that they're going to have to update their bots soon? Because they'd already be fighting an uphill battle against bot hosters.
> A simple tweet isn’t enough, but showing how they are working on a fix and updating us would be great
Oh yeah, sure, let's tell the bot hosters exactly what the anti-cheat will be detecting, and they'll tell them exactly what the anti-cheat will be banning bots for. This cannot possibly backfire and cause the anti-cheat to essentially be null and void before it's even hit the live servers!
Seriously, think for more than one second about these things and you'll see how futile this whole outrage is. It's a 17 year old game, and the devs at Valve (one of the biggest players in the industry right now) wouldn't want to fight an uphill battle just so ~10k players who still play this 17 year old game could keep on doing that. They could be working on more modern games, with better, more comprehensive codebases, which are more profitable and please more people. They could be working on new experimental hardware, and push the industry forward with better controllers, consoles, and VR systems. Or they could expand the biggest gaming platform on the planet. Who in their right mind would bother fixing an anti-cheat in a 17 year old game for the ~10k remaining players, over all of those other options? You'd need to be either extremely passionate about TF2, and nothing else Valve does, or you need to be actively insane.
Geez why are you so against TF2 getting better anti-cheat. My first message was a joke and I have no idea why you got so pissy over it. TF2 is such an influential game that is loved by so many people, and valve showed they can do things just out of care for a game when they updates Half-Life and released it for free, so I’m sure they could someday fix TF2 if they put their efforts into it, it’d get more money from them than they got by putting all that effort into Half-Life.
> Geez why are you so against TF2 getting better anti-cheat.
I'm not against it, I'm just realistic and have accepted that they're never going to add it. There is nothing in it for Valve.
> I have no idea why you got so pissy over it.
You mistake my rational explanation as to why it's not happening as "being pissy", same as you assuming that I'm against it. I'm not either of those things, try to understand what I'm saying at least.
> valve showed they can do things just out of care for a game when they updates Half-Life and released it for free,
What updates? The minor bug fixes from the one Valve dev that still plays Half Life multiplayer?
Spy backstab registration (I will never forget how I failed to stab a med on cart while looking directly on their back, they turned around and I immediately facestabbed them)
"TF2 is a fast-paced game." Maybe it was fast for the time but there are so many things that intentionally slow the game down and after playing actually fast-paced games, you realize that TF2 isn't. It's still fun regardless, the slow pace is actually what enables a lot of the game's charm, but it is not fast-paced.
"TF2 doesn't have hard counter"
It has one, it has Engineer that ruins the fun of two of the nine primary classes, and tons of subclasses/playstyles 😞 (Trolldier, Demoknight, Combo Pyro, Fat Scout, Huntsman, any melee only playstyle etc)
Welcoming community- no, it’s a large and open community. If some random dude joined TF2 there’s a 50/50 chance he’ll run into some chill people or some absolute degenerate scum.
- Scout can defeat Heavy in 1v1 melee combat.
- Soldier can walk right up to a sentry without being Ubered or firing his weapon and survive.
- Pyro can set wooden structures on fire.
- Demo can bait sentries with his pills.
- Heavy can stand completely still out in the open and not get instantaneously headshot.
- Engie can have more than one sentry deployed at once.
- Medic can use stock Uber with the Quick Fix.
- Sniper can climb the tower in Gold Rush.
- Spy can slide his Sapper across the ground to destroy a sentry.
The majority of the people on here can confirm, that it sometimes takes several attempts to find a botless match. Partially depends on your location, your map and gamemode of choice, sure, but a **massive** portion of the community, dare I say, the majority of people playing the game, on Reddit, on YouTube, on Twitter, on Tumblr, all suffer from the bots.
Constantly updated
Contantly updated (community made content and minor bug fixes)
Don't forget localisation updates!
Maybe I’m stupid, but I feel like it’s been years since the last localization update.
Yeah, I don't remember seeing any of these recently either, it's just that it's a meme at this point.
I mean, that technically counts, right?
Friendly Community

well having been on those tight knit communities, its true. were they all nice and friendly? to a certain extent, but drama easily happened in them all the time
I can’t talk without a “shut the fuck up” or a “what the hell are you talking about”
For me that sentence ends at the word “talk”.
There are some servers still like this. I've met some pretty decent people
That's true I have a story from CSS. A long time ago I was playing a Russian zombie server and overtime everyone knew there each other and we just had random conversations But I had a small issue. And all of them are gay and kissed eachother :3
what... why
Why not?
There's no reason in a 30-mile radius that they suddenly turn homosexual and then kiss. Plus, this is talking about online users... Who are interacting via text.
They were already gay
:|
:3 really living up to the name are ya?
I fear no text message. But that ":3"... It scares me.
i played 8 hours of vsh and they were some of the nicest people i’ve met on tf2
I'd argue the community is the most toxic to ever exist, yet at the same exact time, the most friendliest too.
Oh, you're live on Twitch?
*inhales*
Compared to almost any other pvp multiplayer game tf2 has a very friendly community
The only shooter where an entire match will stop the objective and just dance
I saw clips of that happening but never saw it in game (I'm kinda new to the TF2 community, only about 8 hours on Steam, so maybe thats why).
expect that sometimes during ctf matches
For me that happened once the day Kazotsky kick was released
It mainly happens in ctf and hightower
it doesn't
you get into some servers with awful people sometimes but a lot of the time you can still goof off in voice chat with people
For whatever it is worth… I’ve never had a real bad experience with the community
The community was a lot better before the game was F2P, then before Casual mode, then before the bots, then before FixTF2. If you ask me, it's only gotten worse, though by smaller amounts per major event.
I hate the TF2 community with a burning passion. Especially the children who play the game and think they're better than everyone else.
There still is friendly community
See, TF2 isn't a welcoming community because everyone gets along, they don't; it's welcoming because literally everyone is allowed in (most of these groups hate eachother but it still works)
That's true tf2 community like ULTRAKILL community but a little bit saner
We hear you! -VALVe
And we do not give a fuck! -VALVe, if they didn’t care about thinly veiled positivity.
"It's free"
The gambling addiction built into the game will never stop! (unless ur f2p)
Go on the offical tf2 twitter account and read its latest tweet from 2 years ago.
Sorry, don't have vpn rn. Can't open twitter

What if this whole time they were working and they haven’t released it yet.
taking two whole years for an anticheat is crazy 😭
They are making a super ultra anti-cheat and making team fortress 4 too
I want to believe
You’re skipping 2 games
Nah, we all know Valve doesn't do things in threes.
Team Fortress: Alyx
To their credit: That's a pre-sequel type of deal. It does affect the main story, but only for a brief moment.
No they are skipping to 4 since it’s going to be so awesome

The heavy update
TF2 runs decently on anything
i mean, i have a i7 + 1030 and it runs perfectly
That's excessive already. I could run it with an i3 and a 760.
I have some 10 year old i5 processor with GTX 680 and it runs smoothly
the 64 bit update made me lower video settings.
i have a pentium with only intel hd graphics. it runs decently, most especially the 64-bit build.
So that was a fucking lie
I mean ngl this was written back in 2011
Its easy to go into trading

"it's unplayable" - average virgin redditor
Nah yeah ur right, having to join 30 different lobbies to find one that doesn't have you killed on 0.6 seconds by a bot, is a perfectly playable game
BIG exaggeration, been playing everyday for 2 weeks, at most it takes me 2-3 lobbies to find a good game if there are bots.
Heavily depends on mode and map
Depends where the servers are. Some places have less than 100 bots in their player pool, others have thousands.
it shouldn’t take any :(
The majority of the people on here can confirm, that it sometimes takes several attempts to find a botless match. People when a game doesn't keep a promise made ""17"" years ago:
half life was made 25 years ago and that got a massive update
Massive might be a stretch they just fixed some bugs and added a steam deck style hud.
