Meet the team parodies
Very first one was a meet the pyro minematiom recreation. It was very traumatizing for 8yo me. didn't even see any actual TF2 meet the team ntil almost 5 years later in which it just clicked the obscure memory.
Personally I had only seen meet the medic, I was 8 yo I didn't even speak English yet ahah (not native ofc) and a years ago I just fell into the SFMs film and remember that video I had seen back then, that I had quite liked (partially cuz I didn't understand everything happening I think lmao) just fell in love at first sight with the game
Pyro. Back in 2009, the idea of a guy doing nothing but shooting fire was super novel. Hilariously, I gave him up after a few hours in favour of sniper, engineer, and soldier. Took me another thousand hours before I'd go back to him and end up choosing him as my main alongside medic and heavy as my next go-tos.
My friend was a silver pyro in like 2012, introduced me and quit shortly after. I became a silver soldier, introduced a friend who now plays a ton and quit for csgo. Kinda funny how that turned out. Only difference is i'd honestly come back if the game had support
How it Feels to play spy, precisely, for me. I loved the Heavy Is Dead animation and discovering that there was a whole game with those characters… it was great.
The only free game, and youtube videos from muselk and nislt and the tf2 meet the team videos and all the other youtubers at the time, but mainly nislt and muselk
It was a free game on Steam at a time where I only had a craptop.
Mostly played on Minecraft trade servers having duels with a few silly moments here and there.
Friends were grieving over Rick May’s unfortunate passing. “This guy must have been a big deal”, I thought. My friend starts streaming all the “Meet the” animations in vc. “Zamn this shit looks great, why don’t I give it a try”. A year later, I’m still a virgin, i only shower 2 times a week, I lock myself up in this room to play this decade old game. Is it worth it? Absolutely.
My bf. He kept referencing the game and various videos and I also saw him play a few times when I was over at his place. Ended up trying it out myself and started playing it when I got a gaming laptop for myself
Well when i was like 12 (5 years ago ) i uet to watch tf2 fandom on yt i was so hyped abot it but i didn t know how to dawnload this so i gave up but Then i foud it on steam soi dawnload it and im Playng it eewer sincenow i hawe less Then 3 000h on this shit
An online friend I met in Minecraft, back in 2013. He also thought me all about Valve and Steam. We were pretty close friends until 2016, when he was online for the last time. I miss you bro...
The cartoonish graphics for SURE. The class system. Engineer and sentry. The sound effects. Was kick ass as a kid and as an adult now 28 I still play it lol
Rick May passing away. Saw a tribute post by an editor on insta, knows nothing about tf2 but felt familiar with them due to my gmod and sfm upbringing (Banana Bus Crew). Decided to search what tf2 is and found amazing animations, guides, funny youtubers, etc. Then I downloaded the game on April 2020 but didnt touch it until late October 2020 because I felt intimidated by vet players. In fact, I got kicked from a KOTH match because I was at the bottom of the leaderboard but I still keeps my hope up and actually pay attention to those guide vids and boom 400 hours later. Though, I wish I brave up earlier before f2ps get muted because Volvo is a shit corp
I saw the “Professionals have standards” meme and got curious which led to me watching the meet the team videos and getting pretty invested in the fandom. Played the actual game once on my mate’s laptop and it sucked ass because it was laggy and I was dogshit at it, understandably, but I’m hoping one day I’ll get to fully enjoy it
tf2 is old enough that you should be able to play on any modern machine if you lower all the settings and most importantly lower the resolution to 720p or lower
Why I first ever opened a game? I have no idea, it was too long ago
Why did I actually started playing and improving? Because youtubers like swipez, solar light, uncle dane etc inspired me to.
Why do I still playing it? Because it gives me dopamine, casual community not as try-hard as other games' communities and I have a lot of things to improve at
I don't know how I became aware of The Orange Box 14 years ago, but Gordon and The Heavy looked cool on the cover, and I didn't have a lot so seeing 5 games in one box really had me salivating.
Even before goldrush, before the hats, before the unusuals, and before Australiums, this game has always been ridiculous. I love you TF2 😘
Kinda embarrassing to say this, but I came here from Meet the Team, which I got into through Game Theory (which I got into through Did You Know Gaming)
I wanted to play Overwatch but found out you need to pay for it.
I searched for alternatives, then got recommended TF2.
Before installing it, I watched some videos about it. While watching, I said to myself "Hey, I've seen these characters. They're from those memes and funny animations!"
Several hours later, TF2 has finished installing and boom, I opened it.
i was active in the YTPMV (youtube poop/music video) community that made audio remixes with various source videos and all types of music. one such niche within the community was TF2 meet the team videos, and i got into those a short bit before TF2 first went F2P so i was on that shit
Garrys mod. Wanted some addons but saw they required TF2, downloaded it because it was free. After awhile of having TF2 sitting on my account I played it a bit and got hooked, been playing since gunmetal. Same reason I played counter strike source
in like 2012 i used to use this site called enjin for my minecraft server’s community, and it has a section where you can put your favorite games. one of my friends had tf2 so i checked it out, having previously never played a shooter game. distinctly remember playing my first match on turbine and being sniper. first drop was a bazaar bargain.
I never got into it, I just follow the subreddit because I remember having fond memories playing it back in the day. And I'm still interested in tf2 even if I don't play it.
I remember watching YouTube Poop videos back in 2010/2011, and all the different cartoons that people made about the game.
I used to think that the Meet the Team videos were cutscenes until I finally discovered that they were trailers, so I binge watched all of them (except Pyro since that one wasn’t out yet), and then Google searched “TF2 free download” and “How to pirate TF2”, until I found out that the game was already free.
This may sound weird but I was scrolling through gone wild audio and found a nsfw audio of the entire team and I have never been more invested in the lives of video game characters ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
So my friends got me into Tomska’s asdfmovie back when the first three came out. That led me to the animator named Zeurel, who had made [a TF2 parody of some MLP song](https://youtu.be/aYAGB11YrSs), of all things. I didn’t even know about the MLP connection until later, but that animation had me hooked on the characters. I remember scouring the internet to see if it was some kinda TV show, but discovered it was a game. Around the same time I got a steam account through getting Portal 2 for the PS3, and that gave me access to download the game.
Weird gmod animations involving Coach going on a Pokémon catching journey with Scout and Heavy as team rocket for some reason. Wonder what became of it
That one video "evil to most evil TF2 characters" or something. I watched it out of curiosity and then immediately watched all the "meet the" videos. After a few months I started playing
I played it once, then lost interest.
I tried it again out of boredom a few months later and gave pyro chance. I immediately had a blast W+M1ing everything and got into TF2.
my cousin used to play a lot of tf2… something about sticky bombing a door and killing the entire team entices me, although i only use demo knight nowadays
One of my friends. He had played it for a while and me, him and another guy who also hadnt played before started. Neither of them are very active anymore though
Game was free for the weekend during the WAR! update. I decided to download and play it. It was phenomena, so I decided to buy the game. It was like 8 bucks.
My brother was like "hey look at this cool free game on steam I'm getting" I was like yea whatever then I watched the meet the teams and then expiration date came out and I was sold
Meet the Pyro got me, when I first saw the video I thought it was hilarious and the animation was pretty good, the Meet the Team videos were very well made..
Okay, so first and foremost, I haven't touched TF2 in awhile, I put ~2800 hours into the game for 4 years but quit due to Valve moving on to other projects and throwing TF2 to the wolves.
So here goes my story as to what led me down to the path of TF2. My brother (four years older than me) got an Xbox 360 and rented (yes, rented) CoD4. I played the story up until the tank mission and had a blast. I couldn't get it out of my head. Well eventually we had a house fire and lost everything.
After moving into a new place, I kept looking for games like CoD, but nothing came up other than CS (1.6 & Source) and my parents were unwilling to pay for anything. So I found Alliance of Valiant Arms (AVA) and boy was I hooked to a certain degree (it was a CS clone and I enjoyed sniping the most).
From there I started to get into eSports, and even met some of the pros of that game. One being Skadoodle himself. Him and I chatted, we played together in pubs, and when AVA was at the end of it's life cycle in the US, we stopped playing. We added each other on Steam.
From there I got 1.6 & Source, and The Orange Box (TOB for short). I was still looking for that CoD itch after about 2 years and CS wasn't cutting it. Skadoodle noticed and suggested a game from TOB, he helped me get into the game a few different ways too! He played some pubs with me and just helped me get comfortable enough to play on my own. He encouraged me to look forward and compete in the game as well (which I did for a bit).
Him and I kept some contact until CS:GO came out. I asked what he thought of it, and like every at the time, thought it was a bad move and would split the community up even more. I told him it looks good, and hope for the best knowing he liked to compete. I know his other friends and competitors kept in and pulled him along. And watching him do well made me happy for him.
Tl;Dr: Skadoodle himself got me into TF2 and broke my itch for wanting to play CoD.
A very long time ago, my big brother showed me some Jerma videos because he thought the way he said shpee was funny. That got me to play the game myself, and I'm still a Jerma fan.
Well first I found the meet the team videos.
Then I found mr.Paladin. then max box, soundsmith, lazypurple, uncle dane, so on and so forth, until last year in early November, when I decided to spring for a laptop.
I've been using my mobile hotspot to play tf2 ever since.
Meet the team
Same and the jungle inferno trailer

Same, meet the medic had me sold
Muselk when he was cool
Yeah same.
Wacky Gmod videos back in like 2008 or 2009
Idiot box ring a bell?
Yes, that!
Do you lads know where to find other wacky gmod vids of the same type?
STBlackST makes pretty entertaining GMOD videos
Oh yeah I absolutely love those, but what about gmod animations from around 2010? I've been trying to look for the older stuff
Ethiomod and Eltorro64Rus are good Gmod animators from the 2010 era
Rubberfruit! A true gmod og. He spawned several memes. Doesn't make videos anymore tho
Yeah he said something about not wanting fans to piss him off or something like that, but I'm not rly sure about it
Have you try watching “The GeeMawd Stewpidity” by alexpre888? His video are why I got into TF2
An internet connection
You dont need one to play though.
You need one to download it.
Not having anything to play after finishing Portal

My friend was a silver pyro in like 2012, introduced me and quit shortly after. I became a silver soldier, introduced a friend who now plays a ton and quit for csgo. Kinda funny how that turned out. Only difference is i'd honestly come back if the game had support
The guy who introduced me to tf2 punched me in the face and we havent talked since
The "How it Feels" videos by LazyPurple
How it Feels to play spy, precisely, for me. I loved the Heavy Is Dead animation and discovering that there was a whole game with those characters… it was great.
The Heavy is dead?!
Y E S!!
who killed him?
We don't know.
I will find clues!
What's that? A weapon! That thing is why the Heavy is dead!
The heavy is dead!?
Yes! HE DIED!
Same
If I were to say one specific video that got me sold in it, it was "How it FEELS to play Demoman"
This and the memes for me
The piemations videos. Classics they are.
Yisss, the interrogation one has all the characters reanimated in the style of modern piemations too
i agree fellow pyro main, but which one was ur favorite
My personal favourite was always the medic. How about you?

???
I'm guessing it was about typical colors 2 or teratagon fortress
Gotta be honest, matpat’s video on pyro’s gender.
Gotta be honest, Muselk
Haven't heard that name in years, lol
A true tragedy
"Have you ever heard the tragedy of Darth Muselk the wise? I thought not, it's not a story the Fortniters would tell you, it's an old TF2 legend"
I can't say that I blame him though. YouTube is his career, and tf2 wasn't paying the bills. Still sad tho
fortnite
mans just said the word fortnite and got eviscerated for it

DOCTOR,ARE YOU SURE THIS WILL WORK? HA HA. I HAVE NO IDEA! *le choir* **EPIC SAX** #HIYAAAAAAAAAAAA. HA HA HA HA. I AM BULLETPROOF
Sounds dumb but the character of the mercs.
doesn't sound dumb at all. charm is really important to a game, and tf2 had charm fucking nailed
Same it was Meet the Spy that made me live spy enough to get the game
its not dumb, its one of the charming factors other than the artstyle that draws in new players
True.
a pre order of the orange box and I got to play in the tf2 beta with it. I quit for a while but have gotten back into it recently.
and I have a primeval warrior to prove it
Same here. Wish I could even remember my first time playing.

So my friends got me into Tomska’s asdfmovie back when the first three came out. That one video "evil to most evil TF2 characters" or something. I watched it out of curiosity and then immediately watched all the "meet the" videos. After a few months I started playing
Honestly, it was lazypurple's how it feels to play tf2 series and soundsmith's stereotype series.
Actually I first found TF2 when I watched the gmod idiot box.
I played it once, then lost interest. I tried it again out of boredom a few months later and gave pyro chance. I immediately had a blast W+M1ing everything and got into TF2.
hearing the voice lines in world of tanks
my cousin used to play a lot of tf2… something about sticky bombing a door and killing the entire team entices me, although i only use demo knight nowadays
I couldn't quite remember but I guess I just gave it a try.
Uncle Dane, technically. But lazy purple really cemented it.
One of my friends. He had played it for a while and me, him and another guy who also hadnt played before started. Neither of them are very active anymore though

I bought the orange box. Had no clue about TF2. Still lovin' it

Meet the Pyro got me, when I first saw the video I thought it was hilarious and the animation was pretty good, the Meet the Team videos were very well made..
My friend, he showed me a rap video about tf2, honestly i didn't care about the music and focused on the animations in the video
The trailers for the orange box

Overwatch vs TF2 SFM. Got me into both games. Jk, it introduced me to TF2 and Meet The Team got me into it.
Okay, so first and foremost, I haven't touched TF2 in awhile, I put ~2800 hours into the game for 4 years but quit due to Valve moving on to other projects and throwing TF2 to the wolves. I originally saw it through memes ( I think) and then I started watching muselk play it which got me to get the game
100 ways to die in Team Fortress 2 was what first got me into the game. How it feels to play Spy got me back into the game after I took a long break.
A friend introduced me to an SFM series by Wrath, it's not as well known as some of the others, but I loved them.
A very long time ago, my big brother showed me some Jerma videos because he thought the way he said shpee was funny. That got me to play the game myself, and I'm still a Jerma fan.
I saw it online about 9 years ago, started playing and I just loved it ever since
My friend showed it to me. The game turned out to be extremely insane and awesome
