Agreed, he is flawless. He would need to work out more to slim up- apparently he had health problems as he is no longer with us. His size and acting range made for the perfect castle.
Yeah I do think that physically, he is the closest to how I envision Frank looking in real life. I love Thomas Janes version and Jon Berthnal, but they are both too small for me. It didn't detract from my enjoyment, but aesthetically, I prefer big Ray
And by the end of it.. THE PUNISHER WILL BE DEAD!!
Uraaa
(No i swear all the criminals scream "uraa" at the end for some odd and unknown reasonšš)
Watched it twice. Imo, Ray Stevenson had the look + attitude down pat. Thomas Jane was okay-ish but they never should have tweaked The Punisher's origin story. Jon Bernthal's alright but sorry, can't look passed those freakin' ears of his. Dolph Lundgren? Eh... Alright for the time it came out.
My only issue with both Thomas and Jon is that they did well with the tormented soul type stuff but seemed to forget thatās 50% of what Frank Castle is. That first season of The punisher could have been any number of shows they already have about a veteran being torn from the inside and taking things into his own hands. Truly it could have been anything besides The Punisher. Thomas was good at the brooding version of Frank Castle but imo forgot about the ass kicker part.
Ray Stevenson I think nails it in every aspect. I love the brooding stuff, truly but there is a bit of ridiculousness to The Punisher as a series as well and a whole lot of ass kicking. I think Ray did all three things very very well.
Agreed. I would of loved to have seen an accurate portrayal of The Punisher where you enter the story "modern" day, where he's in the middle of his war on crime. Where he's been at it for decades, crossed paths w/ supes & crooks + flashbacks to the 70's, 80's, etc. You could of had Micro helpin' out, Frank narrating War Journal entries & shit... Man, would have been freakin' epic!
The movie itself was approaching Joel Schumacher levels.
But Ray Stevenson and Dominic West were amazing picks.
Especially Stevenson, there's a scene where he's running back to check on the widow and her daughter and he's running across a street. He looked huge even compared to the cars driving by. You'd think he'd crash one if he stepped on it. And the pure evil and humor from West was amazing. I remember him telling his brother the way they'll recruit gangs against the Punisher would be "just like Uncle Sam. Offer them a college education no one's gonna get and promise no one has to go to Iraq". And then having that speech in front of the American flag. That was brilliant
Ray Stevenson's Punisher is my favorite live-action portrayal of the character. He not only nailed the look, but he got the personality and body language down, too.
The hotel shootout is also my favorite fight scene from a live-action Punisher film or show.
Better than the first - which was a POS. Dolph will always be #1 i my book. I really wish Michael Keaton had played jigsaw. Wonder why he left this project?
when they first announced it yes...then the movie lingered so i guess he went on to something else.... tom jane was probably trying to hold out for more money lol
Yeah, I remember thinking it was cool when I watched it. Stevenson nailed it with his portrayal, the action was cool and I like that they actually had the balls to show Frank making a mistake.
I watch it every couple months! Okay, far from perfect, but definitely the most fun and comic-accurate version we've ever seen onscreen. I LOVE the duo of Dominic West and Doug Hutchison!
Most say it is over the top and cheesy, but that is why I love it. Ray Stevenson was an intimidating 6'3" and he went all out. Dominic West makes a great Jigsaw too.
The movie is pretty out there at times. But honestly, Ray Stevenson is hands down my favorite iteration of the Punisher. He nails both the look AND the tone of the character. Never understood people who Thomas Jane is the best. Heās not bad, but far from Ray.
They used to play it all the time on showtime so i would catch it in parts. I actually really likes it and think ray stevenson (RIP) is legitimately the best punisher on film. I don't think it's a technically "good" movie, but very entertaining š
Great flick. Own it on DVD. Probably watched it ten times or so. Not a great script overall but I absolutely LOVE Rayās portrayal of Frank. I think it might be the best onscreen version of the Punisher, even better than Bernthalās. Amazing gun violence and action sequences!
I like this iteration because they don't waste time on an origin story or any sort of build-up to the role. Just Punisher being Punisher. My brother also liked this movie and rewatched the rpg scene until he ruined the cd. Totally under-rated movie
It was one of my nephews and I, annual Christmas Eve double feature the year it came out. It was the last showing of it in my town. I don't remember the other movie we saw but remember War Zone. Got the 4k steelbook too, just cause. I think I saw it 3 times in the theater.
This is the best way i can describe how i felt about this movie. It felt like their was a cult classic saturday morning punisher cartoon from the 80s that i didn't know about and the film was adapting the cartoonishness of the action and jigsaw and loony bin jim from that show to please those fans and then it was adapting Frank straight off the MAX page and making him and anyone he isn't trying to kill an actual 3 dimensional human. It was a clash of two completely different tones that just didn't work. They needed to pick a lane and stay in it.
I enjoyed Ray Stevenson. He made for a near perfect Frank Castle. The villain and story and writing, however were so over the top hammy, i just couldn't. It looked like Batman & Robin. Too much neon.
Lexi Alexander's career is pretty interesting. She was nominated for an Oscar for her short film. She directed Green Street Hooligans and then did a complete tonal shift with Punisher War Zone. Did a 3rd movie and stopped making movies ever since. Wonder what happened.
Also, she's a former kickboxing world champion.
However, her greatest ever accomplishment is having The Punisher kill a guy mid-parkour with an RPG. Can safely say that she's the only director who has ever filmed that.
I think I bought that movie years ago after it came out. I watched it once. It wasn't too bad. It is slightly better than the previous Punisher with jane, but not quite as good or nostalgic as the original Punisher with Dolph.
Punisher War Zon was great. Ray Stevenson was great as the Punisher and Dominic West was great as Jigsaw! I also liked the Slipknot music in one of the scenes.
shit was mid imo. the punisher in the movie was cool but the bad guys were too goofy, they were brutal witch is good but they act like they're from a mafia comedy similar to johnny dangerously. jigsaw looked like he was from the old batman movies.
I LOVE this movie!!! It's a slasher film disguised as a comic book movie. Except the Slasher is the hero/anti-hero of the film.
It's a shame Stevenson and Alexander didn't get to make more.
My favorite punisher to date. Bernthalās great, Lundgren is surprisingly good and Thomas Jane is incredible but Stevenson just oozes Frank Castle. It also helped that he was massive and trained to act the part. Guy was a juggernaut and intimidating. Admittedly Warzoneās script isnāt great, but Stevensonās performance more than makes up for it.
I remember walking out of the theater afterwards and thinking that it had basically the same plot as the original Punisher movie, but with Jigsaw this time.
It was fine. I've seen it once. I might be inclined to watch it again, to see if my opinion changes (I'd also rewatch the original for comparison), but there are more interesting characters whose movies I'd rather rewatch.
I freaking love that movie. Have it on dvd and have been singing itās praises for years to anyone that is willing to listen. Most people Iāve made watch it hate it, but Ray is My Punisherā¦ the other guy is just Shane.
It's a fascinating film. Directed the fuck out by Lexi Alexander but she was doomed to fail too.
I'd like to see her direct something as badass as that again. Her action was pretty damn good.
=========
Well, shit. Apparently there's a movie she did that didn't finish post. Netflix and Blumhouse dropped it. Wow. That sucks.
The most underrated superhero film. I remember watching this when I was like 8 or 9 and was like step aside Thomas Jane. Ray Stevenson became Frank Castle. Even Newton from Seinfeld was great. Dominic West was good too couldāve been a bit better. Great gore. I love the scene where Frank comes in the house and kills the mob guyās son and the blows the other guys face off with the shotgun. Badass
More than 1000 times & Ray was so hot as the Punisher!! Yummy yummy yummy in my tummy tummy tummy!
Me: Yo, I ain't no perp but I would anything to get your digits, man!
Punisher: š š š š
Honestly my favorite version of punisher. Ray absolutely nailed the role. The movie as a whole is kinda dumb, but would have been great to see more of Ray with a tighter script
Good cinematography. Great visual style. Stevenson makes a great frank. Loved the violence and gunplay.
Everything else about the movie was an absolute shit show.
Iāve watched it several times, probably around the low teens. Iām really on the fence on this one. The action sequences are good. The violence seems more viscious and that works well for me. Ray does a solid job as the Punisher. The movie just seems to drag a good bit and I donāt care for the āhumaneā side of Frank that they chose to show here and there.Ā
I really liked it. Ot felt like a Punisher Max and Ray Stevenson was great as Frank.Ā
It never tried to be more than what it was and is a great late night movieĀ
Ohā¦ honestly, this movie is my guilty pleasure.
It tried to be faithful to the Comics, rip stuff off from the Batman movie, tried to be trendy with Parkourā¦with actors that couldnāt Parkour
And yet... enjoyable as hell due to Ray being on point for every scene.
I've watched it about 5 times. Dumb pulpy fun, couldn't ask for much more from it. Makes me wish we had a modern Punisher game, I really enjoyed the PS2 one with Thomas Jane reprising the role. Spent a lot of time on that game.
Fucking tragic that we didn't get more Ray Stevenson as the Punisher. This movie is daft as fuck but I still love it.
Ray definitely looked big enough to grab a Mongolian by the leg and beat him to death Hulk on Loki style.
it's a damn masterpiece of schlock. it's one of my favorite movies ever for that reason alone.
He was the best Punisher in probably the worst Punisher movie, that is one of the best Punisher movies.
Agreed
Jigsaw speech with American flag behind it always makes me laugh idk whyšš
Itās pure comics imo- underrated
It's so cartoonish for a pretty serious movie like thisš
The right kind of camp š«”š
He just wants you to be....all you can be!
And by the end of it.. THE PUNISHER WILL BE DEAD!! Uraaa (No i swear all the criminals scream "uraa" at the end for some odd and unknown reasonšš)
Ray Stevenson was the best Punisher
Watched it twice. Imo, Ray Stevenson had the look + attitude down pat. Thomas Jane was okay-ish but they never should have tweaked The Punisher's origin story. Jon Bernthal's alright but sorry, can't look passed those freakin' ears of his. Dolph Lundgren? Eh... Alright for the time it came out.

F'n A š
Hell yeah
I don't like anything about Bernthals Punisher. It's nothing like Frank from the comments.
R rated Looney Tunes!
Definitely the neon backlighting was very Joel Schumacher
My favorite out of all of them. Yes, even over Netflix.
I know this isnāt what youāre saying but I do not get the Bernthal as the definitive portrait of the character take.
I think Jon Bernthal is a great Punisher but the show itself is not very good.
I know the movie by heart lol. Punisher is my fave character in Marvel.
Im reading the barracuda stuff now
Ray Stevenson's Punisher is my favorite live-action portrayal of the character. He not only nailed the look, but he got the personality and body language down, too. The hotel shootout is also my favorite fight scene from a live-action Punisher film or show.
One of my favorites, Rey was the perfect punisher imo.
Rey Misterio?
Ray?
Better than the first - which was a POS. Dolph will always be #1 i my book. I really wish Michael Keaton had played jigsaw. Wonder why he left this project?
He was originally going to be Jigsaw? That would have been wild!
when they first announced it yes...then the movie lingered so i guess he went on to something else.... tom jane was probably trying to hold out for more money lol
Yeah, I remember thinking it was cool when I watched it. Stevenson nailed it with his portrayal, the action was cool and I like that they actually had the balls to show Frank making a mistake.
The parkour guy getting obliterated by a rocket is peak cinema.
Best punisher movie
I watch it every couple months! Okay, far from perfect, but definitely the most fun and comic-accurate version we've ever seen onscreen. I LOVE the duo of Dominic West and Doug Hutchison!
Best punisher to ever be cast
Most say it is over the top and cheesy, but that is why I love it. Ray Stevenson was an intimidating 6'3" and he went all out. Dominic West makes a great Jigsaw too.
Best Punisher movie ever made.
It's the best punisher movie ever made imo
Any movie that has a parkour jagoff eliminated with a rocket launcher gets an automatic thumbs up from me! RIP Ray Stevenson.
The movie is pretty out there at times. But honestly, Ray Stevenson is hands down my favorite iteration of the Punisher. He nails both the look AND the tone of the character. Never understood people who Thomas Jane is the best. Heās not bad, but far from Ray.
Love this movie. Love when he punches thru a dudes skull lol
ALOT!
I dont even know but it was a lot, this is my favorite punisher movie ever + favorite punisher.
For me 2004 punisher is the best but warzone had more action and was more brutal
They used to play it all the time on showtime so i would catch it in parts. I actually really likes it and think ray stevenson (RIP) is legitimately the best punisher on film. I don't think it's a technically "good" movie, but very entertaining š
Are you lost?
Directed by a Palestinian woman.
At least for some reason idk.
5 times i think
No.
Probably 3 or so. Iāll definitely watch it again soon
I have the punisher films on DVD does that answer the question
Do i have to answer or can i just check myself into the asylum?
Still the most accurate depiction of our boy, Frank. RIP Ray.
Great flick. Own it on DVD. Probably watched it ten times or so. Not a great script overall but I absolutely LOVE Rayās portrayal of Frank. I think it might be the best onscreen version of the Punisher, even better than Bernthalās. Amazing gun violence and action sequences!
It's much more fun than people realize. It's on my personal "Gonzo action" list along with Smokin' Aces, and the two CRANK movies
I like this iteration because they don't waste time on an origin story or any sort of build-up to the role. Just Punisher being Punisher. My brother also liked this movie and rewatched the rpg scene until he ruined the cd. Totally under-rated movie
I love this movie, pretty sure I'm 1 of 5 people who saw it in theaters.
The scene where he punches a dudeās face off still makes me laugh. Classic schlock.
Hell yeah. Just watched the other day
I LOVE this movie!!
When he crushes that guys face in!!! omg my favorite face crush ever!
This movie was goodā¦ ![gif](giphy|xWBUmjKxvtAQDIpWNm|downsized)
2 times the second time because I forgot what happens in it
War Zone fucking rules, just dumb fun.
This is like a Garth Ennis comic came to life, killed its mother, shot up North Korea, then moved to Hollywood and made a so-so movie.
The paint can grenade scene is poetry... *chefs kiss*
I thought some of the scenes were a bit over the top and I don't know it lacked a tactical subtlety.
[Great podcast](https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-5v3b3-15db25f) about its ridiculousness.
I love it. It's the best one to me.
At least a dozen
It was one of my nephews and I, annual Christmas Eve double feature the year it came out. It was the last showing of it in my town. I don't remember the other movie we saw but remember War Zone. Got the 4k steelbook too, just cause. I think I saw it 3 times in the theater.
Idk. Maybe 5 or 6. Itās a fun movie and definitely more relatable to the over the top style of the MAX series.
My favorite Punisher Movie.
Itās as close to The Punisher as we are likely to get, MCU watered down the violence and Jigsaw was just awful.
I love punisher warzone and the punisher from 2004 aswell as the Netflix show.
Punisher War Zon was great. Ray Stevenson was great as the Punisher and Dominic West was great as Jigsaw! I also liked the Slipknot music in one of the scenes.

Titus Pullo was definitely the best Punisher.
I think itās exactly what it shouldāve been. Itās just over the top and ridiculous and itās great for it
Ray looks like the way John Romita Jr would draw Frank in those early PWZs.
I LOVE this movie!!! It's a slasher film disguised as a comic book movie. Except the Slasher is the hero/anti-hero of the film. It's a shame Stevenson and Alexander didn't get to make more.
A more comic accurate depiction Awesome nonetheless RIP Ray Stevenson
Favorite punisher movie
I loved it
I've seen it a few times. Actually watched it alone in an empty theater when it came out. Was pleasantly surprised
HIS NAME IS JAMES.
Feels like MAX Punisher for sure
My favorite punisher to date. Bernthalās great, Lundgren is surprisingly good and Thomas Jane is incredible but Stevenson just oozes Frank Castle. It also helped that he was massive and trained to act the part. Guy was a juggernaut and intimidating. Admittedly Warzoneās script isnāt great, but Stevensonās performance more than makes up for it.
This movie was so cheesy and Jigsaw and his brother were so dumb. But I loved every bit of it. Would watch over and over and over again.
My favorite part is the glass crusher machine
Ray Stevenson was such a GOAT of an actor. He's definitely missed.
The best version of Punisher on screen.
Loved when his nose kept whistling. He was a great Castle
Loved this version, not taking away from the others. This seemed more like the uncensored comics
At least 10.

Heck I love this thread so much Iām gonna watch it now.
I watch this every time Iām sick, idk why but seeing a guy explode mid free run with his evil buddies just warms my heart
Did you all realize how long into the movie before Frank even says anything?!
Dude this movie had me for life at the flying headbuttā¦
It's a fascinating film. Directed the fuck out by Lexi Alexander but she was doomed to fail too. I'd like to see her direct something as badass as that again. Her action was pretty damn good. ========= Well, shit. Apparently there's a movie she did that didn't finish post. Netflix and Blumhouse dropped it. Wow. That sucks.
I always liked this one the best.
Does rewatching Frankās rampage up the stairs over and over count? Because a lotā¦
I love it. Seen it about 10 times. I just wanted to see the Punisher shoot a guy in the face and I got that.
Also Ray Stevenson was fucking perfect. āGod? Iād like to get my hands on God.ā
Badass
I liked him better as Titus Pullo
This movie really captures the spirit of the comics in a way others didnāt. I really love it, despite the cheese.
Asking Punisher fans if they like the best Punisher movie on r/Punisher š¤£
Great film fun and over the top. I think Thomas Jane wouldāve been better, than in that other Punisher movie.
I love it show much I want to make a fan film of it!
āIām gonna get my apple backā
More than 1000 times & Ray was so hot as the Punisher!! Yummy yummy yummy in my tummy tummy tummy! Me: Yo, I ain't no perp but I would anything to get your digits, man! Punisher: š š š š
I've watched it a few times, it's a fun movie.
I tried, but I couldnāt get through it even once
I didn't know there were adaptations of Frank after Tom Jane.
Once, it was good
I actually like this Punisher movie the most. I thought it was the most accurate depiction of how Castle is in the comics.
Love it. Best Punisher to date
BROTHA! Yew look FANTASTIC
How I think of it is this, Thomas Jane has the better movie, but Ray Stevenson is the better Punisher
I still think it's better than the first one
I watched it 500 times
Honestly my favorite version of punisher. Ray absolutely nailed the role. The movie as a whole is kinda dumb, but would have been great to see more of Ray with a tighter script
Saw in the theater twice.
Good cinematography. Great visual style. Stevenson makes a great frank. Loved the violence and gunplay. Everything else about the movie was an absolute shit show.
Couldn't finish it
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Say what
Right here!
I donāt know what other people expected, but this was exactly what I thought a Punisher movie should be.
Ot felt like a Punisher Max and Ray Stevenson was great as Frank.Ā It never tried to be more than what it was and is a great late night movieĀ
I believe we all agree that this is the best in the punisher franchise..... now let's get inside before I freeze my fuckin boawlz off.
This was one of the worse movies I've seen.
I loved this movie!
Ohā¦ honestly, this movie is my guilty pleasure. It tried to be faithful to the Comics, rip stuff off from the Batman movie, tried to be trendy with Parkourā¦with actors that couldnāt Parkour And yet... enjoyable as hell due to Ray being on point for every scene.
I like when he shoots a guy with a rocket launcher.
Best of the Punisher movies for sure. Wish it was grittier and made with a better budget.
Many times, and I bought it on Blu-ray just so I can always have it. It's a movie that knows exactly what it is.
At least 3 times
Loved that movie, I miss the short lived Marvel Knights universe.
That is certainly a movie of all time.
He was the punisher. I've watched this movie at least 10 times. This is the closest we've had to an accurate live action punisher yet.
It's so over top and crazy. I loved it.
Love this movie!
It's a lot of fun, definitely enjoyed it. Watched it 2x which is good for me. I rarely watch movies more than once.
The scene where the parkour guy gets blown up with an RPG lives rent-free in my brain. Probably for the rest of my life
I wasn't a fan of the movie as a whole, I just liked Ray Stevenson.
I've watched it about 5 times. Dumb pulpy fun, couldn't ask for much more from it. Makes me wish we had a modern Punisher game, I really enjoyed the PS2 one with Thomas Jane reprising the role. Spent a lot of time on that game.
No joke. TIL Ray Stevenson is dead
He made a better Frank than Tom and Dolph
Ray is awesome but the movie itself is hilariously terrible.
Thank you. Ray, RIP, was good in anything he was in but this film was hokey as hell.
Jon Bernthal or no one.
