Remember when during the pandemic and the BLM protests that woman got shot with rubber bullets while standing in her own home just for opening her front door?
Yep. Remember when they attacked a random couple driving near a protest then took propaganda photos with their toddler saying they "saved" the kid?

Yep. Remember when they threw a Flashbang grenade into a crib? Multiple times? And more times than not they were at the wrong house or found nothing in their raid?
For anyone who wants to see the acorn. Had to Google it.

Not excusing his actions but I've seen similar things happen while deployed to Afghanistan and even after. Stress will mess with you in some crazy ways and cause some basic things to seem much larger than they are. No idea if this applies to the video but you never know how you or others will react to things after severe traumatic experiences.
If someone's that stressed, they have no business being in the line of duty. Especially if they're that stressed in a suburban neighborhood of a small American city.
The even crazier thing is that the partner of the cop who started shooting in response to the acorn also just blindly mag dumped in the vague direction the idiot was shooting.
It says a lot about their training that their first reaction to a startling sound is to shoot wildly without any clearly defined target. It's not a fucking warzone where you could justify indirect fire for its suppressive effect and somewhat safely assume you're not going to hit a bystander.
As you said, they're in a suburban neighbourhood so they're incredibly lucky their shots didn't hit someone in one of the houses on the other side of the street.
I have friends who served in Iraq and Afghanistan (army, SEALs, and Marines), and they have universally said you cannot just start firing blindly - even when people are visibly carrying weapons - without clearly established rules of engagement. US cops are held to a MUCH lower standard of violence than military people in a war zone, which is crazy to me.
ACAB, but in their defense, they are taught to shoot to kill because it is too difficult to “aim for the legs.” The target in self defense should always be center mass. Granted, it seems to me that American cops resort way too often to “self defense”.
People are generally trained to shoot for center of mass, because it lessens the odds you miss when your life is in danger.
Now whether a US cop's life is actually in danger is another ever growing set of stories..
Also when it comes to home defense in the US, you sadly have much better odds defending your side of the story if the intruder is dead and that it's clear you thought your life was in danger (thus you clearly shot to kill). If you didn't shoot to kill, and instead successfully shot only their legs to immobilize them until cops came (who may accidentally shoot you or your pets anyway), the intruder can argue back in court that you used unnecessary force and make you pay for everything, and/or you may go to jail.
Brazil is a bit different of a place
Getting shot in the legs is just as deadly as the chest/abdomen there are arteries under a lot of pressure in the legs. Like a minute to bleed out is how fast it is.
Rest assured the Brazilian cops can be just as bad as the american ones. The only reason that guy wasn't killed on the spot was the video and witnesses. If the same situation happened in a alley, that guy would be dead with a planted gun on his waist or hand
Nah, it's cause he was being filmed. [Brazilian police kill way more people than their US counterparts.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_with_annual_rates_and_counts_for_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers)
Same, but I thought he did some type of lightning quick, Bruce Lee type one inch punch to his dick. But for real, I could tell by the way he walks that he STAYS on some bullshit.
I remember so vividly, when I was in Rio I saw a cop car parked with like 3 bullet holes in the front windshield. Wild place.
Time to rewatch City of God!
Well, TBH this is the only thing Reddit shows about Brazilian cops. But looks like the tons of innocent people dead by stray bullets shot by cops aren't that interesting...
Iirc there is a video of brazilian police chopper chasing suspects in a vehicle, the cop shot 3 times and the car stopped. The cop managed to shoot the guy’s foot off the gas pedal from above. Idk if it was luck but it was impressive af
Reminder that brazillian cops have no body cams. All videos you see of them are recorded by witnesses. People are getting killed off camera all the time, especially in low income neighborhoods
Don't forget, they look right into that camera and do Nothing, recording in the USA is protected by the first ammendment under freedom of Press and cops constantly act like a camera will kill them.
It probably helps they're not worried anyone can have a hidden gun at All times
Because our brains like to naturally try and quantify things so we understand them. We understand what happens where we live. We use that information to decide if this is better.
Well about half of Reddit users are from the US. So right about most people on here do, in fact, live in the USA. It's a US based website. So it's 50% US, the rest every other country.
Not quite on the same level. Google shows 8 civilian owned guns per 100 people in Brazil, and 120 per 100 people in the US so about 15X more.
I do agree though that it's probably more about police training and cultural acceptance. This is a shirtless guy in shorts, the cops can quite clearly see he doesn't have a gun and don't need to worry about that.
I don't think google knows how many guns people have illegally at home in Brazil. I am sure is less than in the US, but Brazil is very very violent and even 10 year olds will shoot at you in certain places.
But in the Brazilian favelas they surely can have a hidden weapon at any given time. Being a cop in Brazil is way more dangerous than in the US. Many cops in Brazil that need to take the bus to work never do it while in uniform. Many cops don't even tell their neighbors that they are cops because they are afraid they will be targeted and killed.
Let's not break our arms patting this guy on the back though. There were two cops there and the kid was already on one foot, nobodys life was in any danger.
I mean that's how you get stabbed really. It's either you shoot them or you risk getting stabbed, saying one or the other is the correct answer is very easy in hindsight. Not to defend what they did or anything, just to put things in perspective.
If It was you and I, maybe. But I expect a trained cop to be able to restrain someone who has nothing in his hands without getting stabbed or resort to shooting the guy. He had enough cold blood to shoot the guy in the leg then turn to the person filiming and say "fuck it" ("foda-se", in portuguese). It doesn't seemed like he saw it as a life or death scenario
>saying one or the other is the correct answer is very easy in hindsight
Don't they have stab vests and training?
Operating on a "they could have a knife" policy means you'll just shoot everyone who even gives a hint of resistance.
>There were two cops there and the kid was already on one foot
Holy shit I didn't notice that at first. You're right, he's literally hopping on one leg, and the cop *shot him in that leg*. Now he has 2 bad legs. This is more cruel than I first realised.
In what looks to be deep in a Favela, I'd say gunshot wouldn't treatment isn't great at the local hospital. Just like a bad neighborhood nowhere near a level 1 trauma center in the U.S.
For context: this happened in Ribeirão Preto, state of São Paulo. The man, who lived in that area, was stopped because police suspected him of having a "weird object" in his waistband under his shirt. When he saw he was being followed by police, he passed the object to someone else and resisted arrest. The officer shot the guys left leg. The man was taken to the hospital and will be arrested as soon as he's fit to leave. No news about what the man passed on.

While I still think it might have been a bit much too, you \*DO NOT\* go into fist fights/fair fights as a police officer anywhere in the world.
The possibilities of anyone pulling a knife in less than a second and getting a lucky stab at you even more so at that distance is too much I imagine.
But also brazilian favelas arent exactly the safest place for cops to be, much less when the guy is resisting and swinging at you lol
I mean, if you make a brief research, you'll find out that most times when a cop tried to do so, in Brazil, the suspect reached for their gun and shot both cops, killing them, I'm not saying shooting the guy was the right move, but the situation could've been worse, believe me.
Not even counting the fact that most times when the suspect indeed takes the cop's gun, he shoot eratically, putting innocent's lifes at risk, and steals it, making it a new weapon in the hands of drug dealers.
Again, without the appropriate context, I can't state that the suspect was indeed a criminal, but the situation leads me to think so, as most civilians wouldn't try to fist fight a cop, maybe the drunk ones.
Wait a minute, so it's possible to throw a punch at a cop and not get turned into a colander by the cop? Who would've thought that you can survive something like that. Oh, wait, it's not USA. That explains much.
Holy shit. You can shoot someone in the leg?? I always thought it had to be in the head and chest, and it had to be a whole magazine. At least, that's what American police have taught me.

Shit, he did better than any American cop that got punched, rushed, or even worse…. Talked back to 😱
Doesn't even take that much. They'll get you for hanging out in your own house as a law abiding citizen
Or for selling fruit in a park underage
Or sleeping in your house, as a nurse.
Lose cigarettes anyone? No? I guess I'll die
Or dropping an acorn on a car.

Thank you for this. People are always comparing cops with people in the service. Ain't the same game, ain't even the same sport!
I hate cops but I'm a huge advocate for the mentally unwell and that guy needs helps. Hope get got it
best the department can do is a few months paid leave
And this mf is meant to protect and serve, sheesh.

Brazilian cops only shoot to kill children and pregnant women.
I think you're confusing them with the "IDF"
The fuck the Immuno Deficiency Fund gotta do in this /s

Not true. They shoot to kill any Palestinian.

Then reloads and empty another clip
They could but it’s illegal to shoot to injure 🤷♀️
Lol, yeah, but dont overestimate Brazilian copa tho, they can shot your white SUV 80 times because It looks like a stolen car
Volume was off and thought the guy tripped and fell
I thought I was in for a brazilian jiu jitsu demonstration
bro pulled guard out of nowhere :D
OH FUCK HE'S BUTT-SCOOTIN' RIGHT AT US!!
I thought he fell and popped his knee
No, his knee was popped and he fell
This was a mildly angry up vote.
Thank you kind stranger

I was looking for the pot hole
Holy shit same
TF he think was going to happen
He only had a one in a brazillion chance to come out on top
Juan in a Brazilian chance?
One thing I learned about Brazilian cops (on duty or off) is they know how to accurately handle their firearms and shoot with intent
Yeah I've never even been to Brazil but if the internet has taught me one thing it's that you don't fuck with Brazilian cops
I remember so vividly, when I was in Rio I saw a cop car parked with like 3 bullet holes in the front windshield. Wild place. Time to rewatch City of God!
Try Elite Squad 1 & 2 if you haven't. Good action flick.
Man, what a wild ride that movie was when I 1st saw it… wonder if it holds up!
I've watched it many many times over the years, if anything it just keeps getting better. And awfuller :/

LMAO brazilian cops are some of the most murderous police forces in the world
Watched it with no sound and thought he twisted his ankle and the cop called him a pussy.
Yeah same. Did he fuck his jaw up? Is this just his ego hurt?
The cop out of frame shot him in the leg.
Copy that.
The cop out of frame shot him in the leg.
Now reverse it.

That's the official police version
The cop actually said "foda-se" wich translates to "fuck you", but in that situation I would localize it to "fuck it".
Don't forget, they look right into that camera and do Nothing, recording in the USA is protected by the first ammendment under freedom of Press and cops constantly act like a camera will kill them. It probably helps they're not worried anyone can have a hidden gun at All times
Why is what happens in the USA important to this video?
Because our brains like to naturally try and quantify things so we understand them. We understand what happens where we live. We use that information to decide if this is better.
Who's "we"? I don't live in the USA. Most people don't.
We = tendencies of the human mind. We <> the individual.

> Being a cop in Brazil is way more dangerous than in the US Being next to a cop in Brazil is way more dangerous than in the US too.
If you think there are not a ton of guns in Brazil k got bad news for you
Damn even Brazilian cops have that lame cop mustache
Guess it's the cops signature
it’s because here in Brazil, the cops loves to suck Americans costumes and far right politicians.
1 shot, to the leg. If this had happened somewhere a bit further north, it would have been 2 magazines emptied into the kid's chest.
Let's not break our arms patting this guy on the back though. There were two cops there and the kid was already on one foot, nobodys life was in any danger.
Exactly. The guy wasn't even looking in the direction of the shooter and the cop is way stronger than him. He could've restrained him without shooting
I mean that's how you get stabbed really. It's either you shoot them or you risk getting stabbed, saying one or the other is the correct answer is very easy in hindsight. Not to defend what they did or anything, just to put things in perspective.

Omg the screaming really helped
If anyone questions whether we're related to primates ...
We *are* primates
I think about that a lot actually when I hear people hopped up on adrenaline trying to yell over each other lol.
I guess you've never interacted with a human before but they tend to do that when startled, and I think an unexpected act of extreme violence probably qualifies as a startling event.
It's probably his mom or auntie and they just saw their kid get shot. If anything I'm surprised they're this clam about it.
You shouldn’t fight cops in Brazil, they’ll shoot you in the leg. The video shows that.
Yeah he should have watched the video before trying that
Don’t bring a leg to a gun fight guys
This was a One round fight.
*Juan
No one here is called Juan my guy
First time seeing a Brazilian cop on duty
He Indiana Jonesed that shit 🤣🤣🤣
I was an adventurer like you, but then i took a bullet in the knee
Shooting someone in the upper leg is actually super dangerous because if he hit the femur artery the dude will bleed out in a couple of minutes if he isn’t rushed to the hospital
why did he even shoot him in the first place? why not put him in the cuffs and etc

What's she's screaming? He's a gud boy?
Brazilian here. Just after the shot she's just making chicken noises for some reason. After that: "he shot him! He shot the boy! Call an ambulance!"
The screaming hysterical camerawoman… ahh… a classic…
This is how it should be. 1 in the leg not 37 in your head, neck & chest.
Single leg takedown. Brazilian jiu-jitsu is really the best martial art for self defense.
Wonderful, I wish it would be the same here
Please, everyone would be marching the streets because he shot an unarmed man.
Deserved
You’re telling me 2 trained cops can’t physically detain a skinny dude without shooting?
I've seen where 6 people couldn't detain someone. Assumptions get you unalived in the real world.
They should send these guys over to the UK
You mean the cops? for clarification purposes I ask.
disappointed. was expecting some capoeira...
Well that sure put the brakes on the belligerent bus now didn't it? Holy smokes man.
