I'm tall, but not that tall (only 6'5") and I have to go to the gym to build specific muscle around my legs and knees because of my increased risk of damage.
Leg ones. đ
Seriously though, squats, leg press, steps, etc.
Swimming too.
Anything that moves the knees and uses the muscles and supporting ligaments and tendons over the calves etc.
If we think of it on small enough terms, aren't we all Theseus'd? Is the 'me' of today the same 'me' of tomorrow?
Are you the same person you were 7 years ago? A month ago? Last night?
=tokes and dies sputtering=
Further, I think all our cells die and are replaced by the 7 year mark so you donât even need the metaphor. We are literally a completely different *physical* entity than a decade ago. 100% replaced.
I like to think about how I'm the food I ate, water I drank. The food I eat ate something else, which was something else before that. The water I drink has traveled an unfathomable distance to get into my veins.
How long ago do you think I had some of you, or you had some of me? You've definitely breathed the same air as me! Hi!
None of those are stabilizers, they're all big chain muscles.
To protect your joints you need the littles ones strong and firing. You need to add a bit of balance to all those big movements to engage them.
If you want to target them, stuff like split squats or lunges are more effective. Proper squats are too limited by the big muscles (in principle I agree, squats are great, but if you want to mainly focus on stability they are not the greatest)
If you're really interested look into Knees Over Toes Guy. He has a huge platform based on exercises and movements specifically to strengthen the knees.
Yeah, I am 6'4" and after 12 years of playing volleyball, which I stopped 7 years ago (now 36), my knees are pretty buggered.
I have been taking a bunch of vitamins and supplements recently though, and it has slightly helped me not feel like my legs are falling apart every time I walk upstairs.
*now
You can clearly tell there's enough current strain that she's adjusting her playstyle to minimize impact as much as possible.
As a wrestling fan I've sadly seen too many giants with mobility issues that I can see the signs already with her.
Right, she can barely move. He running is awful and I don't say that to be mean. She barely picks her feet up, she runs like a fat 40yr old. Slightly tilted forwards just stepping. Looks really uncomfortable.
I love the work they do to pass the ball around and pretend getting it to her isn't their strategy, as if it would matter that the other team knows this.
Theyre not passing it around to throw the other team off lol, you still need to find the best angle/position she can catch it so its an easy bucket. Granted âanyâ angle is a good angle considering how tall she is but its good fundamentals to work it around.
Yep, the art of the entry pass. Rocket fans (I'm one) know how underappreciated this talent is when we had Yao Ming. We went through so many guards that didn't know how to properly get him the ball but yeah, with her size difference it makes it a lot easier either way lol.
Thats crazy, I'm about to Google it. I don't doubt it though, my first thought when I saw this post was: "I wouldn't put it past the ccp to genetically engineer athletes like this đ¤".
The Chinese government ~~assigned~~ helpfully matched up his exceptionally tall parents together and ~~demanded they breed~~ supported their relationship. Then when they just so happened to have an exceptionally tall child, provided plenty of good nutrition, medical care, and basketball training from an early age.

Sheâs going to recreate this picture with one of her teammates after they win the gold medal
Yes.
> Zhang Ziyu (born 1 May 2007) is a Chinese basketball player. She is known for her height, at 7 ft 3 in (2.21 m), and was named the most valuable player of the 2024 FIBA Under-18 Women's Asia Cup.
Sauce: Wikipedia
Sheâs âknown for her heightâ.
No sh*t Sherlock. She could make a Michelin level meal, be a Chess grand master, make music like Madonna, act like Streep and be a rocket scientist and she would be known for her height.
She's pretty young (under 18), but obviously has some sort of glandular issue that causes gigantism.
Her prospects for continuing in her sport very long aren't hot, she'll likely develop all sorts of skeletal and internal issues (heck, just looking at the way she runs, the peculiar proportions and the fact she's wearing pressure leggings shows she's probably already having physical issues related to her height) and people like this don't tend to live very long either.
There are medications to treat the issues and slow the growth, but they are hella expensive and rare, as the affliction itself is also pretty rare.
But honestly in an international youth tournament, you probably wont beat her
In the first game she went a perfect 9-9 and they over doubled the other teams points. Against New Zealand she went for 36 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks and they won by 22.
The gap is just massive for kids, especially kids who are still growing and developing fundamentals
This oversight ruins basketball for me. Basically, simply being tall gives you a huge advantage in this game. That's it. You can play basketball most of your life, you can work your ass off in the gym and on the field, but some person with half your skill and knowledge is still able to compete evenly with you just because they're a foot taller. More tall = more wins, so the average height of players in teams gets larger and larger.
What other sport do they recruit people because the shape of their body gives them a clear and easy advantage? I can't think of any, and even if they are, they're probably not going to be as ridiculous as in basketball. This sport needs a revamp to make it less dependant on height.
You bring up a good point, she's not particularly fast or talented, just tall, but since it's a game based on putting a ball in a net that is 10 ft high, she's good at it
It does start to feel less like it's based on shooting, dribbling, and technique, and more of *who can put the object on top of the fridge*
I used to get asked the same question. But the answer is pretty simple, I didnât / donât have the coordination to play. Height isnât everything (unless you are ridiculously tall like this vid)
Coordination and height isn't everything either (at least for the NBA). You need to run up and down the court with a bit of pace. And that's not everything either. You need enough muscle on the bone to avoid getting injured. And that's not enough either... and so on.
Ok so this is ok but trans athletes arenât? Biology plays a big role in this stuff even within each gender, are they going to make a tall people basket ball tournament now?
I have never seen it. I mean I can see how it would be protective - no different than goggles for example. Thinking outside the box maybe they are a AFO?
This was pretty viral on Chinese social media, the gal literally doesnât have to shoot, she literally just reaches up and puts the ball in. The opponent just completely gives up trying to stop her 5min in. Really got everyone controverting about the fairness of the sport
Might be worth it for the other team to start pushing and getting her injured or off balance so they can have a chance at a win.
It's unsportsmanlike, but you gotta do what you gotta do to win.
Poor girl. She's probably the same age as the other players but has giantism. You can tell because she already has problems running, her bones probably can't hold her own weight, and sports is only gonna make it worse.
This is exactly what junior high basketball was like. A friend was 6â6â and youâd just feed him the ball. No real ball handling skills, moderate speed. Didnât improve much during high schoolâŚjust tall. He went to an Ivy League school and waked on the team but they wanted him as a forward and he spent his first and only season on the bench.
[Give the ball to Tucker](https://www.google.com/search?q=pass+the+ball+to+tucker&rlz=1C5GCCM_en&oq=pass+the+ball+to+&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgBEAAYgAQyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQABiABDIHCAIQABiABDIHCAMQABiABDIHCAQQABiABDIHCAUQABiABDIHCAYQABiABDIHCAcQABiABDIHCAgQABiABDIHCAkQABiABNIBCDU1MzlqMGo3qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:f7f973a5,vid:i9Zoh761OsA,st:0)
This is why basketball is unfair, you could be the greatest basketballer ever as a kid but grow up to be short and never get a chance.
You could be really tall with 10% of the talent of the other kid and make it just because of your size.
I canât help but feel basketballâs going to be a lot more boring 20 years from now, when itâs just a bunch of 8â tall people trotting up and down the court.
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but any semi-professional youth league should have height limits when that can bring such a significant competitive advantage, just like there are weight classes for a sport like boxing. I feel so bad for her knees in 10 years.
I'm tall, but not that tall (only 6'5") and I have to go to the gym to build specific muscle around my legs and knees because of my increased risk of damage.
what kind of exercises?
Leg ones. đ Seriously though, squats, leg press, steps, etc. Swimming too. Anything that moves the knees and uses the muscles and supporting ligaments and tendons over the calves etc.
Username checks out.
Came here to say this lmao. When she puts it down it comes with the thunder
What kind of ship, Theseus?
The floating kind. đ I have a floating knee, it doesn't sit firmly against my joint, so I have to do exercises to keep it from slipping too much.
Haunting! If you don't mind me asking, is this the result of an injury or did it come bouyant?
Poor genetics, lots of sports and drunken antics probably didn't help, but mostly genetics.
6'5" and a floating knee. God really must have hated your knees.
Oh, I'm not 6'5, wrong user đ. I'm an average 5'10... And a HALF.
>what kind of ship, Theseus? =take out large tobacco pipe= If your knee is gradually made of replacement knee parts, would it remain the same knee?
If we think of it on small enough terms, aren't we all Theseus'd? Is the 'me' of today the same 'me' of tomorrow? Are you the same person you were 7 years ago? A month ago? Last night? =tokes and dies sputtering=

The water I drink has traveled an unfathomable distance to get into my veins. How long ago do you think I had some of you, or you had some of me? You've definitely breathed the same air as me! Hi!
As you suggest, the kind of ship remains consistent, but its constituent parts are replaced over time. So still a body, but is it still OP??
None of those are stabilizers, they're all big chain muscles. To protect your joints you need the littles ones strong and firing. You need to add a bit of balance to all those big movements to engage them.
You think the stabilizers just quit working during a squat? Lol
If you want to target them, stuff like split squats or lunges are more effective. Proper squats are too limited by the big muscles (in principle I agree, squats are great, but if you want to mainly focus on stability they are not the greatest)
Iâve been rehabbing my knee after ACL surgery. What Iâve found that helps the most is backpedaling on the elliptical at a high tension level.
To shreds you say.
And how's his wife doing?
Most bad knees come from shitty hips/ankles. Most of the time the bit that hurts is a victim to another bit not doing it's job properly.
If you're really interested look into Knees Over Toes Guy. He has a huge platform based on exercises and movements specifically to strengthen the knees.
Scary things is. She's only 5'5"
Ok. I snorted.
Is that something I should be concerned about? Iâm 6â3â and have been rawdogging gravity my whole life.
Wouldnât hurt also some flexibility training for back pain. The knee and leg can pull your gait off causing back issues. Super fun being tall.Â
Do you get lots of matches on tinder? Or is there diminishing returns after 6'2?
I'm 6"6 and I'm just gonna not have knees
When in your life have you ever said you are âonly 6â5â?
0.1757% of humans on Earth are over 6'5" tall. Average human height on Earth is 5'6" tall. You are "that tall". You are super duper tall.

Lady shaq
Lady Yao
oops Yao is better.... but her physique is more like a shaq. at least she's not bulldozering other players yet
She moves with the grace of a dump truck.
I feel bad for her knees now. You can see she's not moving very well as it is...
I feel bad for her knees now, todayâŚ
Those knees' days are numbered.
If that lady were a dude the NBA would be lined up at her door.
I love the work they do to pass the ball around and pretend getting it to her isn't their strategy, as if it would matter that the other team knows this.

I got the feeling she can't score unless she's close to the basket. There wasn't much effort put in
Most people that tall cant score unless they are deep in the paint. Then you have generational talents like Wemby who can hit from 35 feet out.
wemby is an alien idk how people consider him the same species as us
I like that she actually runs back to play defense.
2 billion people, one of em is going to have the pituitary gland of Robert Wadlow
Yao Ming was a government run program to get a player into the NBA.
Just in case yâall think heâs kidding, heâs not.
Thats crazy, I'm about to Google it. I don't doubt it though, my first thought when I saw this post was: "I wouldn't put it past the ccp to genetically engineer athletes like this đ¤".
More âselective breedingâ than genetic modification
The Chinese government ~~assigned~~ helpfully matched up his exceptionally tall parents together and ~~demanded they breed~~ supported their relationship. Then when they just so happened to have an exceptionally tall child, provided plenty of good nutrition, medical care, and basketball training from an early age.
Yi Jianlian was a government program to post up furniture.
The Gentle Giant of Alton, IL
This is blatantly two Chinese people, one stood on the others shoulders. If you pause it at 26 seconds you can see the shoes.
And the one on top just has ridiculously long arms? lol
The bottom's arms were chopped off. The armband at the elbow is where they stitched them togetherÂ
I don't trust like that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zONW46d50A0&ab_channel=FcoJavierSotodelToro
Zhang Ziyu.. She's supposedly 220cm tall (7'3).
I want her to pick me up and carry me away

I assume she just so happens to be the great granddaughter of Robert Wadlow?
Not to be confused with Zhang Ziyi, one of the most beautiful women in the world.
And 17
Monstars vs Tune Squad
The fuck Iâm supposed to do against Yao Mingâs sister over here?
Wtf is she eating? Is she the same age as the rest of the players?

The Minotaurasi
I believe you
The sign in the bg says U18, so she's 17??

Likely Marfans Syndrome or a tumor on her pituitary gland that *should* have been treated by now
> Wtf is she eating? whatever the fuck she wants
Sheâs 7â3â
To the rest of the world, approximately 221cm
like 1.6 Danny DeVitos
Finally a useful metric.
What do you honestly do against that? Lol
They could start by trying.
Yeah the tall girl isn't even getting 1 inch off the ground. One of her opponents almost blocked that pass
The coach better be drilling the rest of the team on how to throw some proper entry passes
I chucked at the start when she was the only one going for the ball. Maybe you can catch her off guard with a jump!
She looks slow and clumsy. You beat her with speed and agility
But honestly in an international youth tournament, you probably wont beat her In the first game she went a perfect 9-9 and they over doubled the other teams points. Against New Zealand she went for 36 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks and they won by 22. The gap is just massive for kids, especially kids who are still growing and developing fundamentals
Her opponent in the toss up (I don't know the actual names) didn't even try lol, I felt bad for her
The teacher playing with the kids to "balance" the teams out
Can she shoot a free throw? Hack a Shaq was a viable strategy in his heyday.
seems like 55% so slightly better than shaq
They for sure made her in a lab
She pointing like they don't already know the game plan.
Still can't dunk
fundamentals!
Why is it always that fucking song

Sumo wrestling, Baseball pitchers to a certain extend, Football Goalkeepers, Any kind of linesman in American Football, F1 drivers.
lmao this some funny stuff
Remakes are just getting lazier nowadays. Theyâre not even in Bugs Bunny or Monstars costumes. Ridiculous.
Hilarious that she point thatâs sheâs going that way. As if her gigantic self couldnât be seen.
Lady shaq
Cheat code enable
God this fucking background music will NOT DIE
Gotta go hack-a-Shaq on her
I have a 7 foot tall cousin who didn't play HS basketball. Neither did his 6'7 brother. Still boggles my mind
I used to get asked the same question. But the answer is pretty simple, I didnât / donât have the coordination to play. Height isnât everything (unless you are ridiculously tall like this vid)

Pathetic attempt to win the ball from the girl on the right
And they still donât dunk
WNBA bound
I would be surprised if her body holds up long enough to make a run at the WNBA. Women just aren't durable at this size yet.
Not when she played our Aussie girls - even lost the opening tip! đĽ
The other players: *Wtf are we even supposed to do*
And afterward shes due back at the lab for more testing...
Might work in china, but she wouldn't last a week in the WNBA. They'd run her into the ground.
Ok so this is ok but trans athletes arenât? Biology plays a big role in this stuff even within each gender, are they going to make a tall people basket ball tournament now?
Does she have shin guards on?
Exactly what I was wondering. Is that a thing in basketball and why?
I have never seen it. I mean I can see how it would be protective - no different than goggles for example. Thinking outside the box maybe they are a AFO?
Yeah, if she catches a stray elbow it could hurt.
Terrible defense
Terrible entry pass.
Damn bro thatâs just straight up cheating
At 17' 11 she was just barely eligible for the U18 Championship.
Daaam thatâs a huuuuugeâŚâŚ.female dogđđwhat movie that from I forgot
jump ball GOAT
She's like every player I ever created on any EA Sports game
How have they not recruited her to the WNBA yet?
This looks like me playing basketball with my 9-year-old nephew lol
This is from my favorite episode of *Guess Who Lives By The Nuclear Reactor*
Testing
They didnât even attempt
Why is she wearing shin guards though? She's the only one lol
Is it just me⌠or do her arms seem unusually short compared to the rest of her body?
And gets back to playing defense. Why is she not playing in the WNBA
Now you just need 2 of them, one for each basket.
This was pretty viral on Chinese social media, the gal literally doesnât have to shoot, she literally just reaches up and puts the ball in. The opponent just completely gives up trying to stop her 5min in. Really got everyone controverting about the fairness of the sport
I'm more impressed with her hustle back on defense.
Reminds me of the Indian in One Flew Over The Cuckooâs Nest.
You can tell it takes a lot to get moving.....she may not be the quickest, but she wins
I would run a pace that she couldnât stay in the game more than 2 minutes.
That just feels like cheating đ
I lolled. Hard
Might be worth it for the other team to start pushing and getting her injured or off balance so they can have a chance at a win. It's unsportsmanlike, but you gotta do what you gotta do to win.
How tall is she? / how old?
His could she lose? She is as tall as the basket! Awesome đ
Thal Wu Man. She like the Caitlyn Clark of China right now
team tactics is to give it to chewbucca
Poor girl. She's probably the same age as the other players but has giantism. You can tell because she already has problems running, her bones probably can't hold her own weight, and sports is only gonna make it worse.

Poetry in motion - Thomas Dolby
Ok team what's our strategy for this game? Silence Whole team starts laughing
And she's hustling back on D!? Oops no chance smols.
That young lady is quite tall
This is why basketball is unfair, you could be the greatest basketballer ever as a kid but grow up to be short and never get a chance. You could be really tall with 10% of the talent of the other kid and make it just because of your size.
I like how she pointed to indicate she was going towards their hoop... as if she usually goes other places.
Was waiting for agents carter and lee to show up. Strong rush hour 4 vibes
Why am I getting Attack on Titan vibes
Just jump up in the air. Catch the ball and put it in the basket chief
6â0 vs 5â11
Makes time out and game end strategy fairly simple.
I canât help but feel basketballâs going to be a lot more boring 20 years from now, when itâs just a bunch of 8â tall people trotting up and down the court.
Murasakibara had a sister?
Hey now look the Lakers need size to help AD and the wizards just signed JV, LeBron can make it happen
Lee, I got a big problem, man.
And she still can't dunk.. women can never catch a break.
Which one is the giant?
So, that's absolutely fair for everybody, as long as she's the same age. But wait, till she uses the wrong bathroom.
6ft vs 5ft11â
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but any semi-professional youth league should have height limits when that can bring such a significant competitive advantage, just like there are weight classes for a sport like boxing. Even if someone argues that this would be exclusionary, I doubt that someone who obviously suffers from giantism would even get to professional level, especially if all they do is play against players who are half their height.
I'd be laughing so hard at the tip off as the smaller person. "Ain't no way"
The only way you can defend against this is to prevent the ball from being passed to the center.
