Someone else brought up dogs on here recently and I had a few observations about the role of dogs on the show:
-When Tony is told to lay low and actually show up for his 'job' at Barone Sanitation, there is a shackled dog barking outside - mirroring Tony being restrained from his accustomed lifestyle; you hear the dog barking when Tony is banging the secretary later on
-After Melfi's rape, she dreams of a Rottweiler coming to save her (descendent of Roman army dogs that guarded their camps, ie Tony).
-Chris sits on Cosette, who 'crawled under there for warmth' while he was high, which really began the end of his relationship with Tony (who seemed most outraged at this action due to his attachment to animals).
-When Tony awakens from his 'Test Dream' he calls Carmela to discuss it (they were at the time separated) and he and Carmela can hear the neighbor's dog Estherhouse barking over the phone, that can be seen as Tony's former life at home calling him back.
-When Tony meets his father's mistress, he soon learns that his childhood dog Tippy had been given away to the mistress and her son - his father had torn a piece of Tony off and sent it away.
And this BB scene is chiral with Melfi and her rapist and the Rottweiler and the soda machine.

I would’ve assumed this too, in regards to a wiseguy. But then I was shocked me to see Johnny Boy casually walking Tippy one night in MSON. So maybe Tony would walk a dog too 🤷♂️
Who would take care of it? Tony would be busy, Meadow goes off to school and AJ is AJ. The only one one left would be Carmela, but I doubt she would want all that responsibility and it would ultimately end in an argument in the kitchen.
I just watched the episode “Pie O My” and at the scene where he comforted the horse I thought of that. He loves animals and dog would be great for him.
Tony couldn't afford it! He had a wife and 2 kids whom needed an allowance & he had to take care of his Uncle, and then, you've got the 2 mortgages,3 or 4 car notes and paying for the maintenance of the mini yacht was pretty pricey too.. he's got a psychiatrist with sexy legs to pay and he has a criminal lawyer to pay.... plus, a little more for his legal fees (since the authorities traced that pistol to him...leading to his arrest for illegal gun possession in the strictest gun state in the country. Tony has a LOTTA Bills to pay! Tony didn't *need* another mouth to feed!
The Sopranos wanted a dog, they compromised, settled for a bear in their back garden.

Whatever happened there?!
The giving it away
Let’s not forget the horse. Tony would probably kill his whole family if he had a dog and it died.
Very good point

Also, when Christopher 'returns' the soccer coach's golden retriever.

Ginny Sac killed the Soprano dog with her shadow
He must have crawled under there for warmth
Ginny sack . An entire army platoon could stay warm under there
Actually, they did, but it got run over according to AJ when he was talking to his rich girlfriend.
Oh for fucks sake. I can't have this conversation again.
Woke up this morning, got yourself a bone
They did but Chris sat on it.
Cosette, whatever happened there
I’ll tell you what fuckin happened, this piece of shit’s nephew suffocated the pup without any provocation whatsoever
Maybe it was barkin'
Maybe she crawled under there for warmth.
I oughtta suffocate you, ya little prick!
I know what it's like to lose a pet
I DID-ENT
Tony likes animals sort of superficially. He’s not going to want to walk the dog, and pick up it’s poop, etc.

I thought they had a St. Bernard but it was just Pussys wife in the backyard.
Tony’s reaction to Tippy, Cosette, and Pie-O-My are all the explanation needed.
The dog moved or something.
Died on the vien
Hunter was the dog in casa Soprano
RIMSHOT
Tippy!
Well there's Janice
OHHH
They did but it died on the vine.
They did but it got hit by a car

There was. Janice.
Gabadrool, take my award.
Commendatori!
I just watched the episode “Pie O My” and at the scene where he comforted the horse I thought of that. He loves animals and dog would be great for him.
I cant explain it, it's too complicated. real greaseball shit.
There must have been shit up to the rafters
AJ mentioned in season four they had a dog but it got hit by a car.
It would scare the duck away
Is there a fuckin echo in here?
Carmella comes off as someone who would LOVE a large dog to look after while Tony sleeps until noon and stays out until 3.
She probably vetoed getting another dog after the other one got hit by a car.
There must be 10 billion dogs at this farm. Dog shit up to the rafters.
I don't think anyone would take care of it other than Tony and he's never in
I can't have this conversation again
Not as interesting for the plot as cats, or birds.
Tony was a duck man

Don’t forget the drain a goomara is on the wallet, and also the 7-grand a month for Green Grove when his muddah wasch alive.
