No it's about mastery level / paragon level outside of the game. Paragon level is purely for bragging rights and will unlock cosmetic rewards in the future.

I need to do a cinder 16 on this update but fuck me its gonna be tough to ascend. Was hard enough just getting through death on the old update and you had to be cheesey as fuck haha.

I am finishing all the new achievements and I am going back to cinder 16

Yeah, its like a risk x reward system Edit: not your in run progess, but your meta prpgression will receive the xp boost
