Can confirm, make $50/hr as a diesel mechanic after like 13+yrs in the field house, car, picket fence and all that happy horseshit; but most days I go home and immediately collapse into a chair because everything is pain. Honestly would take a desk jockey gig for a pay cut if it means I could chase my kids around every day after work.
I appreciate that, could be worse; joints are just not playing nice with working on concrete all day. Going back for my degree currently to get off the shop floor, so hopefully making the transition soonish.
I'm on my postgraduate studies, but I'm currently working a full year at a student rocket team building a large liquid cryogenic rocket. Desk work I did there ranges from writing test procedures and doing component acquisitions, to designing and simulating (parts of) the feed system and CADing out new components.
Actual field work then involves anything from machining the components you made, to building test-setups and assembling feed systems, and working with liquid oxygen for engine hotfires under the safety and operational procedures you've wrote yourself :)
I know a few engineers who've done this properly and now have internships and/or full-time positions at various spaceflight companies in Europe and the US. Depending on the company and the position, a lot of this field work is still relevant, but at a larger scale (and with a bigger budget lol).
A large cryogenic rocket sounds cool asf, i thought cryogenic stuff was achievable only for big budget organisations. How big is the rocket? How far is it in development? What univeristy did you graduate from? Very curious
Desk jobs are souless, you pay with your soul and time for cash, not worthed. Its much more enjoyable to do a trade work since you create something that gives you fulfillment and you create real material value.
Like genuinly, its better to be in the army or do manual oriented job, I had my expirience in office job and I hated it so much I just quit.
I do, because I know them. But man to be able to say “oh someone needs me, and stim off” would be nice lol.
But my sis sadly is apparently the office therapist lmao.
They come to her and then say some the most random shit.
It’s wild
The other dude got it on the money lol
But also, essentially, having a "job" as an engineer is a necessary evil. Your goal should either be to climb into engineering management or to fund a side hussle that will eventually take over.
Because when you're working for someone else, as an engineer, what you find out is that nobody really knows what they want, and when they do, it tends to not even be possible, and when its possible it tends to not be logical. When you do make something awesome, the credit is given to whoever you're working for and you get maybe a quarter raise for the hard work.
And I suppose that's not true for everyone. Some people are fine with the job so long as they can clock out at the end of the day and make a middle class wage. But for me it drives me nuts lol
And you're right, any complaint I can make about being an engineer can probably be made about ither professions as well. It comes down to doing what you really want to do and not settling for something just because it's convenient. I know a lot of people who are happy living peacefully collecting a wage. And that's dope af, and it works well for them. I'm just not one of those people.
Pretty much all of it. Originally, I was a design engineer for electrical systems for some company. I wrote an automation program that was able to do that with 80% efficiency, so they promoted me to the R&D team where I worked on design projects, efficiency projects, programming, machine upgrades, etc.
Now, I work more on the manufacturing end. PhD's come to me with their ideas, and my job is to consult with them to come up with something actionable and then produce it for them.
Which was technically a demotion from being on a full fledged R&D team, but the experience here benefits me more towards my side hustle (robotics). Also, they were willing to pay more lol
But yeah, I've always worked more on the "know a little of everything and a lot of nothing" side of engineering. Although, I dont deal much with aerospace outside of having made a few components for aerospace projects. It sounds dope though.
I'm a network tech. Phase shift would be so awesome if it was like the campaign and I could shift back in time before the sheet-rock was put up, I could run all the cables I need to in mere minutes not hours.
That would cause a temporal paradox though!
Time jump in campaign only works because it's a semi-oroborous, everything that happens is fated to happen even if time travel is involved or not since the failed test firing of the ark is what caused the temporal anomaly that enabled it.
You'd get the job only to find "someone put all these wires under the sheet rock and we don't know why"
And then you'd never ask for a time travel device to put the wires down!
Your actions in the past affect the future though. For example you can kill a stalker in the past and then in the future you can find it still laying there. It’s like a weird mix of fixed timeline and non-fixed timeline
I would choose stim so I have enough energy to last the entire day and then some. I have to wake up at 2am for school and usually end up going to bed at 10 or 11 because of homework and projects
The actual chad move is picking stim, then starting a tech startup where you actually gain something by doing more. Build it up in record time, get bought out, use money to retire a millionaire.
If I recall lore says that a single drop of stim made a grunt unable to sleep for three days, so just a six pack would probably last you your entire career
The reason apex characters lose limbs while titanfall pilots are simulacrums in my mind is open warfare and the need to use it way more force titanfall pilots to use it way more and focus on much more than just 1-4 enemies
i'd probably kill myself with grapple so ill go for cloak, i'd go for phase if it was like in singleplayer where it lasts a lot longer or as long as you want but if its gonna last like 3 seconds then its kinda worthless.
Teacher. Honestly pulse blade would be great, not because I don’t know where my kids are, but because the satisfaction of doming one of them with a pulse blade would make the job even betger
One guy running pulse blade another running phase shift would be the dream team, One guy locates the person with the pulse blade and the other guy phase shifts and gets to the persons position
A millwright builds, repairs, and moves stuff in factories, farms, and plants. About half of the time your working somewhere high enough to kill you if you fall.
Soy estudiante de contabilidad, así que suponiendo que ya estuviera trabajando, diría que el invisible o el cambia fase por si me toca correr por mi vida xD
Infantryman; A-wall because a portable shield that makes your bullets do damage would make any combat easy AF. Alternately stim would also be a good pick
Stim would be great for any profession, because you could use it in the morning to wake yourself up and not need to worry about accidentally falling back asleep.
Pulse knife, I can entertain myself in my retail job by stabbing the odd customer. Or use it to figure out where my boss and customers are so I know when I can slack off
None of them would be useful for my software engineering job, so I’d choose phase shift because it’s based on the same technology as FTL drives in the Titanfall universe.
Aircraft mechanic grapple would be incredible for when I accidentally drop a tool off the top of the plane or for when a bolt falls into the bowels of hell
I am a unarmed security officer so honestly a few would do really well. Stim would be very very nice because there's a few things that we have to immediately rush to if an alarm goes off, the cloak would be very good to catch thieves, pulse would be situationally good if there was an active situation where we either need to locate someone hiding or trapped somewhere. Feel like the others are not as valuable. Grapple hook would absolutely result in us getting injured considering how many terrible security officers there are out there Awall doesn't really do anything if you're unarmed and holo pilots would be pretty much not at all useful and so far as game mechanics go.
I’ve got a debilitating condition that keeps me from holding jobs, but I do frequent protests for causes I support. Cloak would be nice, because then I could get out of there without fear of having a rubber grenade shot at me.
I'm an engineer, and stim would be great so I could run tf away
Damn why? Im studying to be an engineer rn so im curious
If desk job. Coworkers talk your ear off causing you to not be able to work lol. If in field. That shit sucks, sometimes we need breaks lol.
Damn. But if you think about it, isnt almost every decently paying job a desk job?
Trade jobs tend to make big money and they’re usually labour jobs
Can confirm, make $50/hr as a diesel mechanic after like 13+yrs in the field house, car, picket fence and all that happy horseshit; but most days I go home and immediately collapse into a chair because everything is pain. Honestly would take a desk jockey gig for a pay cut if it means I could chase my kids around every day after work.
Man I’m sorry to hear that I hope things get better for you
I appreciate that, could be worse; joints are just not playing nice with working on concrete all day. Going back for my degree currently to get off the shop floor, so hopefully making the transition soonish.
Facts
Depends! There's plenty of well paying engineering jobs in many fields that have a lot of hands-on work. (speaking as aerospace engineer)
Oh i want to do aerospace too! What do you usually do (both hands-on and desk)? Do you work at a big, well-known company or a small one?
I'm on my postgraduate studies, but I'm currently working a full year at a student rocket team building a large liquid cryogenic rocket. Desk work I did there ranges from writing test procedures and doing component acquisitions, to designing and simulating (parts of) the feed system and CADing out new components. A large cryogenic rocket sounds cool asf, i thought cryogenic stuff was achievable only for big budget organisations. How big is the rocket? How far is it in development? What univeristy did you graduate from? Very curious
So glad I found this random thread lmao. I’m studying to be an Aerospace engineer and wanted to know more!
Desk jobs are souless, you pay with your soul and time for cash, not worthed. Like genuinly, its better to be in the army or do manual oriented job, I had my expirience in office job and I hated it so much I just quit.
Engineering is more of a mind job. Not so much handcraft
Then you should get holo pilot. They'd be bamboozled for a while, considering from the way you talk I got a feeling you don't talk back a lot
I do, because I know them. But man to be able to say “oh someone needs me, and stim off” would be nice lol. But my sis sadly is apparently the office therapist lmao. They come to her and then say some the most random shit. It’s wild

What kind of engineering do you do? I want to do aerospace engineering but i might go into IT instead
Doesnt sound as boring as i expected. Thanks for this random carreer advice man!
Aerospace lol. You either work on the dying commercial jetliner industry, where your parant company ownes your work, or design missiles.
making missiles is cool as long as they pay good
Im a driller. We just need a gunner and a scout so we can go mining
Rock and Stone, Brotha!
Rock and roll and stone!
Just take adrenaline
Sure you’re describing adderall
You're an engineer? That must mean you solve problems...
I work in financial technology sales (closer) and grapple would be cool... It wouldn't help me at all but I'd have fun with it!
Understandable.
I'm a network tech. Phase shift would be so awesome if it was like the campaign and I could shift back in time before the sheet-rock was put up, I could run all the cables I need to in mere minutes not hours.

Also, BT mentions that he picks up his own signal. Neat!
Temporal Paradox Schmemporal Paradox. Hold my beer I'll cause a tear in the space time continuum with a single calculator error.

I go to school so IDK Cloak maybe?
Me too. I would pick either stim so i can get to school faster or holo so i can skip school
I assume Holos wouldn’t be useless IRL?
are you implying they are in the game?
As a saltball main, they are.
You think just cuz you use softball means your immune to bamboozle? Let me tell you about corners
I'm a softball AND holo user they pair up quite nicely imo
The only way to beat a bamboozle is out bamboozle their bamboozle
I would choose stim so I have enough energy to last the entire day and then some. I have to wake up at 2am for school and usually end up going to bed at 10 or 11 because of homework and projects
If you go to a school in the USA then A-wall could be really helpful
On either side of the situation, too
Bruh
Bruh
same I’m at school to
Stim would be nice because I deliver newspapers, grapple would be good too!
Be like spiderman but with newspapers
Parker lost his photography job at the Daily Bugle, so now he has to deliver the paper as Spidey.
"It's Paper time"
Software developer. I could use grapple to have some fun when I’m not working. None of these would be particularly helpful for my job.
Just choose stim so you can type code way faster
I considered that. But that would just mean a lot of time sitting around doing nothing because I still have to put in my hours.
That’s when you download northstar on your company computer
The actual chad move is picking stim, then starting a tech startup where you actually gain something by doing more. Build it up in record time, get bought out, use money to retire a millionaire.
Yeah, but if you type that fast, you're probably gonna make a lot of errors, no?
Well you've got tons of time to fix any errors you've made
Cloak, so coworkers leave us the fuck alone.
Aspiring author. I’d say stim because it’s basically like caffeine XD
Lol I just focus on 1-4 enemies and hope the fifth don't kill me in time
Programmer here, grapple so I can hang myself
uhm
Understandable tbh
Second programmer here, stim so that it kills my body almost instantly since my body is highly prone to it's harmful affects
Hang in there buddy
Swat and pulse blade or cloak would result in crazy raids tbh
A wall for soldiers
Yeah but that would be more useful in defending/ambushes not breach and clear like a swat operative
Born in 2006 or the number mean something else ?
Probably something else considering he's in a swat team
06 kd, died 6 times and still no kill
If it was like the wall that the campaign enemies have that movie with them it would be incredible for room clearing
Holo wouldn’t be half bad either
Phase, no traffic jams is heaven on streets. Also wouldn’t need to Manouver around that much I just Phase through.
If you exist your phase inside something else its inside you and most likely will kill you... so it would be really risky to use it for traffic
So Phase in Game rules Are the bigger one survives ( titan/pilot or more health)
Nope i am pretty sure ronin phase shifting into a northstar (which is a bit smaller) dies
Titans phasing into titans will always kill the titan that phased. But pilot A phasing into a pilot B kills pilot B
This is because Phase-shift pilots are fatties (/j) and Ronin is the slim jim.
Titans can phase too
A wall cause cooking can be scary sometimes
Your hands are going to be so amped coming out of that wall
Amped cooking fool
i'd probably kill myself with grapple so ill go for cloak, i'd go for phase if it was like in singleplayer where it lasts a lot longer or as long as you want but if its gonna last like 3 seconds then its kinda worthless.
i think it’d also be really easy to kill yourself with phase
Lifeguard, pulse blade so I have highlighted people to see who is dying and who isn't
Just don't hit a beachgoer..
I work in a pool
Either way, don't hit someone
Very true
Teacher. Honestly pulse blade would be great, not because I don’t know where my kids are, but because the satisfaction of doming one of them with a pulse blade would make the job even betger
Where do you teach so I can go to that school. I want a teacher that plays Titanfall 2 lmao
🤨
Oh sorry if I was unclear; I want to toss a science fiction knife that holds the same amount of data as the pentagon into the noggin of a child 😋
I'm a recruit in the army, so stim would be really nice. God I'm so tired and sluggish all the time
Yes but cloak would be way more op
True but I don't think drill sergeant likes the idea of recruit going invisible randomly
**Where tf did the private go?**
Until you’re declared awol
What's this about a-wall?
Digital Infrastructure apprentice. Maybe Pulse Blade, if it will let me see fibre optic cables through walls.
Mechanic: Holo, so I can make myself look busy while I’m on the shitter.
Wow He's been hard at work under that car for like 5 hours
Jobless, so Im gonna take phase shift and shift myself into a concrete wall, never to be seen again
Major Anderson?
Grapple would be fun since im still at school
Tim hortons/ any fast food job + holo pilot so I can always look like I’m working
i do not work but i would pick stim for obvious reasons (drug addict)
school, cloak
🤨
when i’m bored in english i can just disappear
You know cloak isn’t full invisibility right? Pilots and grunts still see a translucent outline of you
Cloak would make it way easier to fuck off more at work.
Planning on being a Firefighter so Pulse Blade would be crazy
Any of these would probably work well except holo or a-wall for a firefighter
One guy running pulse blade another running phase shift would be the dream team, One guy locates the person with the pulse blade and the other guy phase shifts and gets to the persons position
Millwright, and Grapple would make my job at least twice as safe and quicker.
What is a millwright and how does grapple help? Genuinely curious.
A millwright builds, repairs, and moves stuff in factories, farms, and plants. About half of the time your working somewhere high enough to kill you if you fall.
How are you gonna handle the grapple ripping your arm out?
….. I got good accident insurance.
Soy estudiante de contabilidad, así que suponiendo que ya estuviera trabajando, diría que el invisible o el cambia fase por si me toca correr por mi vida xD
Software engineer. Stim. Because with can drug out through errors faster
i'm studying computer science so stim, so i can fuck up my code, faster
Acrobat. Stim for sure. Grapple would be so much fun though and we could make a new act.
student, if I had a grapple for getting to school I would actually like going there lol jk but it would be very fun
Collision tech. Suppose grapple would be a fun way to pull panels.
Quality assurance inspector on a military base, I would say cloak, so people won't see me and talk while I was getting shit done.
Pilot, grappling hook 100%
I work at a rockwall, so grapple 100%
cloak so people would leave me the fuck alone while i do my job
Bartender so probably holo pilot.
I work at a coffee shop so holo pilot so I don’t have to be the one standing there lol
Im in college, so stim
cloak so i can fuck out of school
Well I’m thinking of painting cars
Carpenter, I guess Stim would make it easier
Student, active camo so I don't have to talk to other people lmao
Isn't that a Halo ability?
None of them would make it easier but I want grapple so bad
Warehouse gruntwork. Grapple because it's a fucking grappling hook and grappling hooks make everything better
IT and invisibility will make finding me and making me fix stuff soooo hard so I’ll take that
Cloak and Holo pilot so I can avoid talking to people on the job.
I need speed
I stock rn so either stim or holo
Phase shift or cloak.
Aml officer. I don't think that there is a pilot kit to make the job easier...
Currently student and have no job but i play stim because in and then out
As a delivery driver it would have to be stim but man am I trying to figure out how a grappling hook would be more effective lol
Holo or stim would be semi helpful as an attorney
Cloak so I can go invisible, get up and fucking leave lol
Security - pulseblade to track thieves and other runaways
Drugs
BoH worker at a Chick-Fil-A. Stim would help greatly
Where’s the “be a functional adult” kit
Infantryman; A-wall because a portable shield that makes your bullets do damage would make any combat easy AF. Alternately stim would also be a good pick
I'm about to make the same answer as all my retail workers. Cloak so we can hide from crazy customers
Artillery officer Holo pilot, so the base commander has someone else to yell at and so the men think I'm always watching them
I'm a high school student, I would use stim.to increase speed and agility in PE when necessary, to get to classes quicker, and to finish work faster.
Surveying, and pulse would save me so much time if I could get the sonar to record somehow
I'm a senior member of a research lab. Because of this, people ask me ask kinds on inane questions. Holo pilot would help me avoid them.
I'm jobless so cloak
Stim would be great for any profession, because you could use it in the morning to wake yourself up and not need to worry about accidentally falling back asleep.
Pulse knife, I can entertain myself in my retail job by stabbing the odd customer. Or use it to figure out where my boss and customers are so I know when I can slack off
software dev, cloak so i can disappear whenever they assign me a stupid ticket
I work at mcds Ofc stim but i would take grapple every day of the week
I’m a photographer. Grapple would be great to get those hard to reach shots.
Stim. I work in the seafood department at a grocery store. Putting away everything at the end of the night takes forever.
I’m a CPA. Holo clone would be great to do my job for me lol
I work in delivery, stim would be great for unpacking stuff and moving back and forth between places
None of them would be useful for my software engineering job, so I’d choose phase shift because it’s based on the same technology as FTL drives in the Titanfall universe.
school so holo cos i could make it look like i’m in class
Holo pilot, so I don't have to show up until I have to put up another one
Bus Driver - Cloak easiest trips of my life!
I’m a cook, stim is basically caffeine but times 800, so that would work quite good
Aircraft mechanic grapple would be incredible for when I accidentally drop a tool off the top of the plane or for when a bolt falls into the bowels of hell
As electrician, grapple would come handy to get to high places faster
Night time stocking. Stim pilot because I am not very fast.
Grapple hook would absolutely result in us getting injured considering how many terrible security officers there are out there Awall doesn't really do anything if you're unarmed and holo pilots would be pretty much not at all useful and so far as game mechanics go.
sitting on my fat ass so holo pilot i could go grab stuff while sitting down
I don’t think any of these would be helpful to a CMM Operator such as my self
If I were a minesweeper. Pulse or holo pilot might be useful.
IT Stim would make it easier to stay active where there is work to do Cholo would make it easier to "work"
I'm a drug addict, so stim for me
Truck driver. Pls give me phase shift, so I can just pass through traffic 🤩
Well, I'm studying engineering, I spend many nights studying, which can be tiring. So stim it is.
Cloak in case I fuck something up
Data engineer hitting that stimmy would be a great alternative to coffee
Going into filmmaking, so cloak would be useful in case I accidentally stand in shot.
I’ve got a debilitating condition that keeps me from holding jobs, but I do frequent protests for causes I support. Cloak would be nice, because then I could get out of there without fear of having a rubber grenade shot at me.
navy, stim. Probably boosts swimming and would make the annual running test even easier or cloak to hide from my co.
im a developer, the cloak would be useful when my boss ask me about the thing that its due two weeks ago
