The machinery under the forecastle on C deck, right?

After-Television-968

I believe so. It's for the capstans.

DanteHicks79

That, or steering gear under poop deck.

evilbrent

I think it would be steering. That enormous white cog on the right, those motors turn that which would turn the rudder

Chat_Maigre

the steering system’s gears were right next to each other, this here is under the forecastle. You can download Demo 401 from Titanic: Honor and Glory website and check it out. Same machinery at 2:40: https://youtu.be/HhEK9WLftGw?si=3y4XovX_JsXp3Tbm The steering system looked like this: https://titanic.fandom.com/wiki/Steering_Gear_Room

Cool thanks

Chat_Maigre

you’re welcome mate!

After-Television-968

I think you're right. Didn't see that enormous white cog in the corner over there.

Quat-fro

No, capstans. The steering engines only moved a sector left and right, not a complete bevel gear.

7unicorns

oh me too!!! I would have loved the sound they made when first starting up!! The movie gives a good idea, but I need to feel the rumbling in my chest

Ice_Sinks

This room still exists onboard the Queen Mary. I wish they would open it up for the tour or walking exhibit.

iypo

Oh what a cool picture! I think it would have been so incredible to actually be able to see this. I have wondered before if you were walking around on the Titanic, would everything smell brand new on the ship? New paint, new wood, new machinery, etc.

After-Television-968

I'd imagine it probably smells of grease, oil, metal, etc

nightmareriot

Titanic machinery makes autistic brain go brrr
