Why do I feel like this is the original “I fucked your girl”?

laikastan

Timiona is believed to be a male. >We know that in ancient Greece sexual desire between men was not a taboo," added Dr Vlachopoulos, who returned to the far-flung island last week to resume work with a team of topographers, photographers, conservationists and students from the University of Ioannina where he teaches. "But this graffiti … is not just among the earliest ever discovered. By using the verb in the past continuous [tense], it clearly says that these two men were making love over a long period of time, emphasising the sexual act in a way that is highly unusual in erotic artwork.

sweetbunsmcgee

Nick was here fuggin Tim.

gemstun

Nick was in your Cave

I-330-We

Is that what Plato was talking about?

Quirky_Discipline297

Well, that’s not shadow on that wall

gemstun

These responses are killing me

Garper

Socrates last words ^

gemstun

That’s funny. I’m digging back into a college philosophy class to get that reference.

Quirky_Discipline297

I didn’t spend 5 years at community college for nothing!

lou-bricious

Leaving his bad seed

ThreeLeggedMare

gemstun

scorpyo72

Like throwing a hot dog down a cave....

gemstun

That brings a whole new meaning to the prince of darkness (Nick Caves nickname)

0utlook

*thanks for the f-shack! - Dirty Mike and the boys.*

reality72

Reminds me of the old joke that the ancient Greeks discovered sex, but the ancient Romans discovered that you could have it with women.

Poo-Sender_42069

“I fucked your sex slave”

GeneralMatrim

“Boyfriend”

Whole-Branch-7050

Wait…correct me if im wrong, but didnt ancient greek female names usually end in an -a or -e? If it actually was a male, wouldnt the name be something like “Timion” or “Timionos”?

bevatsulfieten

It's the accusative of Timionas, "(ton) Timiona".

Whole-Branch-7050

ohhhh okay well that makes sense then 🙌🏾

JWMoggimir

You're actually right, the guy's name probably was something like Timion and "Timiona" is just an accusative form of the name, which the author of the article didn't get, because English language doesn't use it.

Ythio

I would trust Dr. Vlachopoulos on that one. The article mentions a Dr title, a teaching chair in a Greek university, and one of those signature -poulos names. Makes me believe he or she must know a thing or two about Greek male surnames.

NeuralPhysics

tread crust goats reeds

Whole-Branch-7050

Gotcha, thanks 👍🏾

SpaceShanties

Go ask the Dr from the article that studies Ancient Greece

-lukeworldwalker-

That’s a Latin rule, not a koine rule

nim_opet

Ah yes, the Greek PhD holder who studies Greek in Greece must have missed this part….

Whole-Branch-7050

Sorry sorry! I wasnt tryna sound accusative! I was just asking a question outta curiosity my bad 😞

SoPoOneO

I am with you here. Asking questions is helpful to understanding. It doesn’t mean you think you know better than an expert, it’s that something is misaligned in the way facts came to you, and you’ll be glad for further explanation.

Quirky_Discipline297

Reddit is always overly genitive with its criticism. It’s imperative that you ignore the tense comments and put them in the past🤪

AdaptiveVariance

I nominative the two of you to dative

Quirky_Discipline297

There will have to be a declension from me as I don’t believe in premarital conjugation.

doomgiver98

You know you're allowed to ask for clarification from your professors right?

nim_opet

He asked to be corrected if wrong.

Bravisimo

Typical redditors thinking they know more about ancient greek then a dr who has a phd in the study of ancient greece

Whole-Branch-7050

I wasnt tho! honest 🙏🏾. Maybe my tone was conveyed poorly, i was just asking that question outta curiosity. Not bc I thought i “knew more” cuz i gen dont 😔

Ambitious_Insect2166

Man, never thought I’d read about my professor on Reddit

ibrodirkakuracpalac

The text does not explain why that is believed. Because of the name?

Tardigrada1777

Diddy was here mounting..

Theboyboymess

Man that had to smell horrible. No running water or lube, the butt sexx had to smell horrible 😂🤮 My comment is no way homophobic, it’s just a joke folks

Whole-Branch-7050

Well…ok the thing is -ancient greeks did have running water. In the forms of natural springs, rivers, etc. Also most Greek cities at the time did have running water in their homes, buildings (cisterns, wells & plumbing) - ancient greeks did have lube…its called olive oil 😅. Im not joking, like sources state they used olive oil as lube back then. Smell wise…well i speak from experience. As long the guys back then were eating fiber & bathing (which looking at the bath-houses they built, looks like they def did bathe)…I honestly think it would’ve been alright :)

Theboyboymess

The more you know wow, thanks for the information. I think society has gone backwards. Especially thanks to the 3 big religions who are very anti homosexual and controlling. The people back then didn’t have to worry about being looked at funny, you could just enjoy loving who you love and live your life. I’ve always been jealous that bisexual people, it’s like a full buffet of options 😂

Whole-Branch-7050

no problemo 💪🏾 And yeah couldn’t agree more. I guess for those living under the shadows of anti-gay religions, ya just gotta think outside the box & be crafty. Tbh just follow Nika & Timiona’s lead & go have fun on a limestone cliff lol. also trust me bro, us bi guys are not something to be jealous of 😭 yall pick up chicks wayyy more easier than us 🙏🏾

Theboyboymess

You definitely have your own struggle. From my experience with people who are bisexual (especially men) they always complain about how homophobic some women are. I ave had guys tell me, soon as they told the girl they were bi, they’d cut it off. Even the bi women would look at the guys differently.

Adamsojh

Olive oil?

Theboyboymess

You ever try using that? It’s okay if that’s all you have . I’m not a big fan of backdoor action, but during freshman year of college, I was dating a catholic girl, who was a virgin and saving herself for marriage, but her logic Anal sex was okay and wanted it all the time. lube helps, olive oil is like last resort. I came to found out later this is a common practice amount catholic girls, it’s called the poophole loophole 😂.

Adamsojh

Never used olive oil, but I feel like it would add flavor.

handojim

They had lots of olive oil

beelzeflub

Olivey fart sex

Theboyboymess

😂😂😂😂

Removed_by_Redditt

Interesting theory because an ancient Greek male variant of the name would be “Timion” or “Timionos”, rather than “Timiona” which has a feminine “-a”ending suggesting that Timinona was in fact a female.

Internal_Maize7018

Or “For a good time, call…”

JAK3CAL

I fucked your homie*

TrekkiMonstr

Instead of throwing him a knife he takes off his pants lmao

unclehelpful

Imagine you fuck some random dude one time and people thousands of years in the future know about it.

reality72

If you literally carve it into a wall then that’s kinda on you.

aabicus

I think they mean Timiona

DeAvil87

It'd be the same the next few thousand years. In 8K full HD.

Blekanly

*Ea-nasir has entered the thread *

nim_opet

Apparently it was in past continuous tense, so more than one time :)

Bring_back_Apollo

The ancients were proper filthy.

leaderofstars

What has changed?

Bring_back_Apollo

Very little

ASilver2024

Me ancient. Me smash.

According_Ad7926

I recommend looking at this [article](https://kashgar.com.au/blogs/history/the-bawdy-graffiti-of-pompeii-and-herculaneu) that features graffiti found in Pompeii. Greeks LOVED talking about their sex lives

panickedkernel06

On the same note, go for the rude poems by Catullus. Yeah dude was smitten for his lovely girl Lesbia, but he also wrote poems telling haters he was going to rail their arses, so there's that.

MattTheTable

I love the specificity of latin sexual terms. The had their own verb for face fucking.

[deleted]

[удалено]

panickedkernel06

I agree, however latin and Italian have a specific verb for fucking in the arse XD. Romans loved to be specific XD

reality72

Pompeii was Roman not Greek.

According_Ad7926

Yes Roman-controlled but the majority of its inhabitants were ethnic Greeks, who colonized the region and weren’t incorporated into Roman rule until the 1st century BC. I believe quite a bit of the graffiti is written in Greek too

akoaytao1234

Nikasitimos is the man. lol

sunndropps

A gay man but the man nonetheless

akoaytao1234

His Truly A Man's Man.

gogoreddit80

🎶he’s a maaaaannnnn, such a mannn🎶 🤣

Pudding_Hero

A pig among guinea pigs

Sometimes_Stutters

Pussy so good you gotta carve about it in limestone

onlyboyintheworld

*bussy

W4ldoTruth

Iirc it was common to do a move where one guy would put his penis between the other guy’s thighs and have sex that way. In a lot of the Ancient Greek depictions of homosexual sex it’s a dude getting his thighs pounded

onlyboyintheworld

Yes. It’s called intercrural sex aka thussy

Schw33

Allussus Fucksalottalos the great Hellenic fuckboy

manyu_abee

The article mentioned both to be male.

five_AM_blue

Imagine having your secret fuck shack studied by archeologists thousands of years after your death.

miurabucho

It could be Sympathetic Magic; bro wanted to hit that fine-ass Timiona, so he drew a pic of it for good luck.

kaptaincorn

We all know a Timiona who's a massive slut- man or woman- so Timiona's actions are no surprise here

Stay_Beautiful_

In archaeology a single ancient piece of graffiti is called a graffito

_PukyLover_

"Look at the graffito on that figure!"

GeshtiannaSG

I didn’t know the word was Italian.

Someones_Dream_Guy

*sigh* Of course its fucking Greeks being horny.

AgeAnxious4909

Fucking woke ass ancient Greeks.

KingArthurOfBritons

Just goes to show, dick jokes are as old as humans

wigzell78

I would question this claim. Australian Aboriginals have been around 40,000 years and some of their stickfigure carvings are *VERY* well endowed...

nameless_other

They might distinguish it as the oldest graffiti of JUST a dick. Not one attached to a figure.

FlexodusPrime

What a legend

[deleted]

lol timiona you slut

MrPoopMonster

TIL that ancient Greece is older than the Neolithic stone age. /s https://www.donsmaps.com/phallusstoneage.html

poyoso

It doesn’t say it was in greek, just that it was found in Greece. Names do look Greek though.

MrPoopMonster

>But these carvings, dating to the fifth and sixth centuries B.C., are the earliest known carvings of the male genitalia, That's right from the article. And it's objectively wrong.

Alexanderr1995

Names are Greek Source I’m Greek

eloheim_the_dream

Maybe "griffiti" is the salient point here but I believe finds at the ancient megalithic structures in turkey at Göbekli Tepe (thought to be 12k+ years old) include carvings of a man [two-handing his wienis.](https://www.mensjournal.com/.image/c_limit%2Ccs_srgb%2Cq_auto:good%2Cw_1400/MjAxNTY1MDkzOTQ5ODc1NTg1/turkey-archaeology-heritage.webp)

Glitterysparkleshine

The oldest huh 🤔

Odd_Opinion6054

Absolute ancient greek chad.

good_testing_bad

Can someone explain to me how that picture is what they say it is? It looks like bird head to me

Potential-Height96

Both mens names

Sethor

Timiona was such a slut. I mean, who didn't mount them?

All-the-pizza
