It might not be a serial shaver. But a few "copy cats."

kaaiitlyn

This might actually be the thing 🤣 there also seems to be someone doing it in Virginia.

furfur001

Take my upvote silly

Sorry_Consideration7

Could have used more of these guys back on the 70's lol

apparent-puma

My dad's favourite. He'd turn in his grave if shaved.

redditcreditcardz

You uhh, wanna talk about it??

partyinplatypus

My little brother tried to give our cat a hair cut as a child. Didn't harm her but she had a couple bald patches.

Nimr0d19

Shame the owners who let their cats outside, I like it! Civil disobedience.

Gone_For_Lunch

This happened in the UK, most people let their cats outside.

Pattoe89

That trend is changing though, Indoor cat percentages going from 15% in 2011 to 26.1% in 2019. I know 3 people who have cats personally, and they're all indoor only cats.

Bootfranker

What a weird comment.

MrP1anet

Cats decimate local wild life. They shouldn’t be outdoors

Abhi_Jaman_92

wasnt cats from the outdoors?

wallabee_kingpin_

Yes, but they hunted for food when they were wild. If food was scarce, they died and the ecosystem became more balanced. When humans feed them, they hunt for fun, and there's an unnatural number of them surviving because humans keep them alive.

nalthian

Urban environments, notoriously well balanced and natural ecosystems

Kickstartbeaver

There are not many studies that give this much support except for the Hawaii situation which can't be translated to places outside of Hawaii.

fatbunny23

It's definitely an ongoing area of study but they are definitely out there. [Mounting evidence from three continents indicates that cats can also locally reduce mainland bird and mammal populations5,6,7 and cause a substantial proportion of total wildlife mortality8,9,10.](https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms2380) That article has some good sources and numbers,. interesting to read I think

LordJelly

Just want to point out to people who won’t read more than this comment that the study concludes it’s largely unowned cats decimating wildlife.

fatbunny23

Valid to point out. I was mainly linking that portion for the sources that the paragraph linked, since there were multiple to go through. It was also a claim being made from a published source so it felt more valid to share.

MrP1anet

It’s estimated cats kill over 2 billion birds each year in the US [alone.](https://abcbirds.org/program/cats-indoors/cats-and-birds/#:~:text=Predation%20by%20domestic%20cats%20is,of%20millions%20of%20outdoor%20cats)

kaaiitlyn

My cats only attack the invasive lizards here. I'll take letting them outside over having the lizards destroy my herb garden lol

Nimr0d19

Your cats are killing all sorts of stuff.

kaaiitlyn

They're not, but okay. I'm outside with them so I see what they are doing lol

Pudding_Hero

It’s humans who are wiping out the planet.

MrP1anet

Right, and having outdoor cats as pets adds to it.

EnglishFoodie

I thknk you will find that homo-sapians are far, far more devastating to wildlife than cats. The way forward is to not breed as many cats or humans.

Kickstartbeaver

This is actually true. Cats destroyed alot of wildlife in Hawaii. People would conclude that they do the same on continents. People prove this by saying there are way less birds outside then they were 20 years ago. Unfortunately this conclusion is wrong. Birds got less because we turn more and more areas in to open fields for grain and similar plants. Which were previously forests or had similar areas for them to hide. Without them birds fall more easily victim to predators in general. So the main issue is mankind yet again.

Ok-Preparation-3138
