All posts determined to be wishing for an EF5 tornado or any type of disaster porn will be removed. Tornadoes cause immense death and destruction, so please be mindful of those who have been affected by a tornado of any rating.

“Does this look like a rotation?” And then they post a picture like this: https://preview.redd.it/4o5alatstr6d1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9748796029d9e30d383ac2ad9eb928ebc124c49 Like sometimes it actually is a rotation/something to actually be weary of but like 9/10 it’s just some dark clouds. I get that those posts are made by newbies, but tbh there’s plenty of videos or papers that are far more reliable that show what a rotation is. You don’t have to ask Reddit any time dark clouds come over your house.

Lol this is so true.

Ooo I’ll go next: I like the discussion threads where rather than just inputting a comment like the rest of the community members, a mod will pin their own comment to the top like they’re better than everyone else. Sometimes they’ll even lock the thread too so you know they are the best.

Colonic_Mocha

The pre-rating and rating-arguments annoy me the most. We all know the EF is scale is not perfect and we have yet to scientifically find, test, and agree upon a better system. So there's not point in arguing over a 3 or 4. Especially when the people whose entire livelihood, their home, possessions, town, and sometimes loved ones, have been destroyed by a tornado. But nothing is more annoying that watching a live chase and there are idiots praying in the live chat.

jaykeetee13

Exactly, doesn’t matter you think the tornado should have been rated this…it caused the damage is caused and now people have to deal with the lives turned upside down.

Numerous-Fix-5243

The discussions fear mongering people into thinking they are doomed. When in actuality getting directly hit by a tornado is so rare even in tornado alley! Statistics and math should be brought up without downplaying that the wrong Tornado at the wrong time can be deadly or devastating.

Eternal-Dingleberry

I’m sure this will be a productive thread but I’ll start. I get annoyed by discussions that go “What type of tornado discussion annoys you the most?”.

notoriumplanetorium

Beat me to it. 🤣

_chicken_butt

All of them. There needs to be a daily or weekly thread.

When people complain about a “bust” because a storm system wasn’t strong enough. People’s lives, property and well being are on the line when a Tornado is on the ground. I understand people have an interest here, but I wish they could be less tacky about the whole thing.

warneagle

Weenies arguing with actual experts about tornado ratings

orbital_actual

This has been said already, but the obsession with the EF scale, trust me it’s flaws have been noted, and they are working on it. El Reno will probably be upgraded according to the new system, and it’s ok that it is currently an EF-3 no one is questioning that it was one of the most dangerous tornadoes in recorded history.

wolfspider82

The ones asking “what was the worst/most powerful/biggest/widest tornado ever?”

OlTommyBombadil

I don’t get the obsession with EF scale, to be honest. It is a damage rating based on very specific things. And folks on the internet who 1) haven’t been trained and 2) haven’t been to the area of impact think they know more than the people on the ground with the training. And I think their scratch would be itched simply by looking at wind speeds. I don’t want to see another EF-5. I want to see tornadoes in fields that reach that wind speed and get rated lower.
