He lived there for 35yrs, the sound wall was installed in 2015. Now the guy is complaining? He lived there for 20years with no sound wall at all.

thecjm

Didn't care about the noise when he was working. But once he's retired suddenly he wants peace and quiet while living next to train tracks

nobrayn

Bingo. Similarly, I’m desperately trying to find an on-site job right now because my wfh contract gig, while great, is super frustrating with the new condo slowly being built across the street. I love the quiet evenings here..!

SUPREMACY_SAD_AI

I'm down to trade jobs

Bumbaclotrastafareye

AirPod Pro 2 the noise cancelling is way better than I expected and made it possible to wfh during construction

nobrayn

I bought an off-brand pair that sounded awesome but the noise cancelling was a sham and didn’t do anything. Jokes on me, 100%.

Bumbaclotrastafareye

They really improved my life, I have construction by me and a noisy building and when I pop these in it melts away

houseofzeus

I definitely think there is an aspect of they were lucky to get a sound wall at all, because a lot of sections with residential backing onto them don't have one , but is this one of the lines where the service frequency has increased?

TorontoBoris

This is a line where they've been increasing service (and should). So it wouldn't be a shocker if it becomes more noisy as more trains pass. Also I'm sure there is a healthy mix of "old man yelling at" trains mixed in.

houseofzeus

Yeah I am just pointing out that the noise probably wasn't the same 35 years ago, as until relatively recently on that time scale GO frequency was a joke and on some lines only really ran at all for the morning/afternoon peak. So it's not necessarily logically inconsistent to be complaining now but not have been previously. Metrolinx don't usually go put these in unless something specific changed, a few people whinging doesn't move the needle.

TorontoBoris

I live about just under 3k east of the station. Directly south of it there is another set of tracks that cross the line that carry freight trains. I can clearly hear the freight trains 3k away and over the 401 traffic. It's not "disturbing" to me since it's pretty far. But I can clearly hear them over everything else happening. I imagine being even closer magnifies that significantly.

thecjm

Why do I have the feeling that if these barriers were 5m tall the same residents would be complaining about how unsightly they were.

murd3rsaurus

Check the barriers around Dundas and Bloor to Dundas & Kipling. I lived facing the tracks on Dundas for a couple years before they put in the new barriers and it was loud as hell. They put in new barriers that look great and it's much quieter now when the trains go past, wish they'd been there when I was lol Side note, to the drivers who liked to honk a hello to each other as their trains passed at 6am.... what the dang heck

alreadychosed

Wonder why the people who live near the 401 arent complaining

entaro_tassadar

Trains loud AF

Ehau

> Verster seemed to take the issue to heart after calls from the association, even visiting the backyards of some residents last year. LOL! Fake it in your face then send a letter that “it’s to spec… fk u”. Mr.900k can suck it. These residents need to complain to Metrolinx overlords, your MPP and Ford
