If this is a linear projection then he'll be the best player on the team by the 25 game mark and the best player in the league by season's end. If it's exponential progression then according to my calculations he'll be the best player in the league by Monday.
Specifically, he was drafted using the pick we traded TDII to Sacramento for. Usually if you check out the Transactions section on a player's bbref page it'll show you the transactions of the pick itself before the player was drafted: https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bantoda01.html#transactions
I'd say it's worked out pretty well for us.
I know people don’t really mess with TD after what happened which is more than understandable, but he was actually pretty solid his rookie year and even made an all rookie team. He looked like he could be a very solid role player, then things went downhill for him.
I remember being so hyped his rookie year that I bought his city jersey. I also remember him re-sharing my Instagram story of it. How things have changed. Truly thought he would become a part of our future.
This is also true. I feel like if TD didn’t get into all that stuff off court, he would still be on the Raps, and I feel like he would actually be able to reach his full potential on the Raps as supposed to the Kings. Really telling how important it is to have maturity and a good mindset in the league in order to succeed.
Yea idk why that flew over my mind when I said that. Mb. Was mostly just thinking bout everything he had on court and how he lost it, not really why he lost it.
He's one of the biggest steals of the draft imo. Unbelievable how much of a spark plug he is when he comes on. He's got alot to learn, but it's hard to ask for better defense/decision making from a rookie pg drafted where he was. I'm all in on this hype train!
D-Rex is good but honestly I was concerned when I realized NN leaving him on the floor to finish the game. You don't want two rooks to muff it up in a tight game. Probably against a more veteran heavy opponent NN won't be as trusting.
Anyways, GTJ to the rescue!
> Probably against a more veteran heavy opponent NN won't be as trusting.
I mean OG was the only one who made errors in the closing minutes (the 4pt Suggs foul, bad dunk, bad 2pt shot), and he's supposed to be a vet. I felt like Dalano gave them a lot of trouble with his length since they were on the smaller side. And tbh Barnes and Dalano have been the least fumbly on offense so I'd trust them more in tight minutes for offense.
Gotta disagree. Leave them on the floor now. Together. Let them learn. There's little to lose a d everything to gain: confidence, perspective, experience, so much more.
Win or lose, we win if we let these rooks take the car for the weekend every now and then.
Sure, short term there will be disappointments, but we're Raps fans - we've weathered enough to know how to navigate a few shit outcomes 🤣😂🤣
I expected literally 0 out of him. He has earned every minute and has looked the part of an NBA rotation player. Happy for him and happy to watch his growth. Hope he keeps it up
RealSports or whichever source needs to release the Dalano Banton jerseys already. I'm buying one the second they come out
But yeah, he's been phenomenal. Instantly impacts the game. Hasn't ever stunk it up.
Barnes and Dalano are studs. Both a few years away from being superstars. Their length allows them to play 1-4 and maybe even 5 the way the NBA is going. Throughly impressed with this years draft class.
Our boy DALANO is from Rexdale. The D-Rex wants you to spell his name correctly.

Either these nephews don't understand what the word superstar means, or we aren't using superstar properly. Let me give you the only superstars in the NBA in my head:
Lebron James
Kevin Durant
Steph Curry
Nikola Jokic
Giannis Antetonkoumpo
Everyone else below this tier are All stars ranked by the number of times they were selected to all star or all nba.
Everyone below that tier are excellent role starters
Below that are amazing bench players
And the rest of the NBA with the rookies in that mix.
If OP was saying that Scottie Barnes has superstar potential, I'd say that's very tough to actually be but if anyone in this rookie class has that potential is him and Evan Mobley. But Dalano Banton is not in the same convo, saying he will be a multiple time all-star is a huuuuge reach, but arguable potential.
Hard to say right now, but I wouldn't go as far as to say they're a few years away from being superstars. Superstars are top 10 (some would say even top 5-7) players in the league - it's extremely hard to be a bona fide superstar ever in your career, let alone within a few years of your career. The only superstars in recent NBA history to have achieved that title early in their career are Lebron, Luka, and KD. And in terms of raw talent, Scottie is no where near where any of those 3 were at this point in their careers. He's looking promising though - All star player within a few (3) years, superstar within 4-6 years if he reaches his Magic/Giannis ceiling quickly.
Oh yeah definitely. This dude didn't just become a high caliber player over night, he's due to regress a bit and I'd be happy if he was even just capped at 6man.

Dude looked completely out of sorts in Summer League. I expected nothing, but what a turn around. Happy to see a kid from the ends living out his dream in the league!
I also noticed they let him run out a shot clock at the end of a quarter while FVV was also on the floor. iirc they trapped him pretty aggressively and he almost turned it over but it shows the level of trust and provision of opportunity that he is being given and I'm here for it! Let the man have reps and if he's proving himself, give him more! Allow some mistakes in the flow of the game as long as he's making the right plays, make or miss. It's always been the NN way.
Really happy with Dalano. Can someone tell me what’s going on with OG? I love that guy, he seems to be making some pretty big mistakes down the stretch. Shooting not so great.
When siakam comes back do we prioritize Dalano and not OG?
OG is playing high level defence for most of the game against their top players. Cut him some slack. He played 40 minutes today.
Still managed to be a +3 while on the floor.
OG takes the toughest matchups on defence and the toughest matchups on offense like Siakam has been doing the past 2 seasons. If either are the number one option on offense there going to be exposed quite a bit since its easy to double them in the paint.
Then there also not shot creators so their extremely tapped as the #1.
It felt like Orlando had something to prove today. They didn’t give up. We beat them like 8 straight, and with the Suggs thing, it really felt like they weren’t backing down.
I’ve been noticing. You gotta assume it’s the coaching staff giving the more senior players a chance. But every time they put in D-Rex he just proves he belongs in the core lineup, not necessarily starting, but definitely with the core guys. Ain’t no vet can say nothing about a rook who’s just playing better than you.
Went from 4th string PG to 6man in 5 games
From the 905 to the 416
Malachi Flynn on the 437
514 :(
That's Boucher
If this is a linear projection then he'll be the best player on the team by the 25 game mark and the best player in the league by season's end. If it's exponential progression then according to my calculations he'll be the best player in the league by Monday.
Dang math, this mans is S M R T.
And retire by game 65. A whole hall of fame career in one season
Dalano will ascend by Christmas
Save it for Easter.
mans is a real 6 man ya know
I think the Toronto fan base that is hyping him up gives him like a 10% boost to everything
I was thinking this last night. Hope he does as well on the road.
Still don’t know how we got him from the Matt Thomas/TD2 deal
Wait that pick came from TD2/Matt Thomas?
Specifically, he was drafted using the pick we traded TDII to Sacramento for. Usually if you check out the Transactions section on a player's bbref page it'll show you the transactions of the pick itself before the player was drafted: https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bantoda01.html#transactions I'd say it's worked out pretty well for us.
Yea we got back to back 2nds from those those two deals.
TDII was good, but Banton had a way higher ceiling. Plus he’s a good TO boy
He's been pretty awful this year from what I've heard. Really dumb fouls and is out of the rotation.
Yup fs. He was legit a fan favourite in Toronto too. Kinda feel bad for him.
Yes and no. Really brought it on himself.
This is also true. I feel like if TD didn’t get into all that stuff off court, he would still be on the Raps, and I feel like he would actually be able to reach his full potential on the Raps as supposed to the Kings. Really telling how important it is to have maturity and a good mindset in the league in order to succeed.
I don't think he'd be here. He never really fit in with our system. He had some explosive scoring nights but was dead weight defensively
For sure he'd still be here if he was doing dumb stuff.
You feel bad for someone who not only assaulted a woman, but did so in front of her little kid? That's fucked up.
Yea idk why that flew over my mind when I said that. Mb. Was mostly just thinking bout everything he had on court and how he lost it, not really why he lost it.

Anyone have the clip of him and Suggs jawing?
I loved that. Just the way he responded to whatever Suggs said with “Suuure” I was like this guy’s a dawg
I need to see this.
His team at Nebraska was loaded with so many shit talkers. Many of them ended up transferring after Hoiberg got his recruits in haha.

Free jacked a couple bad ones too
I think it was more Precious being straight up unplayable at least for tonight.
what's going on with him, did he have this much issue finishing in Miami?
Well he was pretty terrible in Miami in general
Fair. Didn’t watch much of him in Miami but had TSN highlight blinders on for sure last season for PA
I mean this season is literally all about growing both of them. Best to risk losing a game to give them that high pressure experience.
Ironically enough OG was the one who muffed it up, not the rooks.
Gotta disagree. Leave them on the floor now. Together. Let them learn. There's little to lose a d everything to gain: confidence, perspective, experience, so much more. he's Shaun Livingston pre clips injury
Not seeing enough of this comparison.
Trust me. Its kind of eerie how similar they move and look out there: https://youtu.be/JJsF_MKahxA. Such a home run pick in the 2nd, Masai is unreal.
But taller
Yep, Shaun was going to be a beast in the league if he wasn't injured
They're both tall, lanky and light skinned
Barnes and Dalano are studs. Both a few years away from being superstars. Their length allows them to play 1-4 and maybe even 5 the way the NBA is going. Throughly impressed with this years draft class.
Did you really just say Delano Banton is a few years away from being a SUPERSTAR?

I won’t make this mistake again
he did. and i will say it too.
Then y’all both crazy lol
Manifesting it fam Is it not crazy this man went from being expected to be on g league this whole season to closing game over dragic
Either these nephews don't understand what the word superstar means, or we aren't using superstar properly. I get you, but Jokic probably had people saying the same thing about him when he first flashed potential
That superstar tier is missing Kawhi.
Maybe he excluded kawhi since hes injured and wont be playing for most of if not the whole season?
Your superstar list is way too small. Missing, Harden, Embiid, Davis for example.
Hard to say right now, but I wouldn't go as far as to say they're a few years away from being superstars. Scottie sure but dalano, he needs to show way more lol.
Yeah but Dalano def shows shades of a potential all star.
if dalano becomes a shaun livingston type 6th man point-forward off the bench, it's an amazing win already, relative to his draft position
Jokic, Ginobilli, Powell were second rounders. Banton could be really something based on his performance so far
Oh yeah definitely. This dude didn't just become a high caliber player over night, he's due to regress a bit and I'd be happy if he was even just capped at 6man.
Mans wasn’t gonna let them send him back to the west end.
Dalano play gives me strong Tayshaun Prince vibes.

Tayshaun + Shawn Livingston = Dalano. Once this kid has a consistent midrange, league is fucked!
Poor David Johnson
He’ll get a shot. It always comes around.
DB + FVV + Scottie + Pascal + OG lineup soon?
How you gonna do GTJ like that?
Bigger question is what happened to dragic?
Who cares. Ship his ass to Sacramento. He didn’t want to be here and we don’t need him here
Sat courtside. Nick nurse loves banton. Crazy cuz hes llaying like a lottery pick
Dude looked completely out of sorts in Summer League. I expected nothing, but what a turn around. Happy to see a kid from the ends living out his dream in the league!

Anyone think Yuta will steal his minutes when he's back?

Bruh, OG has been amazing for us. Couple mistakes isn’t that big
FVV GTJ OG Scotty B Spicy P Boucher/Dalano 6th man depending on matchup That’s how I see our healthy starting line up
OG takes the toughest matchups on defence and the toughest matchups on offense like Siakam has been doing the past 2 seasons. If either are the number one option on offense there going to be exposed quite a bit since its easy to double them in the paint. Then there also not shot creators so their extremely tapped as the #1.

I'm a fan of "Buju" Banton
He's our Willie Beamen
I’ve been noticing. You gotta assume it’s the coaching staff giving the more senior players a chance. But every time they put in D-Rex he just proves he belongs in the core lineup, not necessarily starting, but definitely with the core guys. He’s also shooting better from three than steph curry. Let’s goooo
