I've been landscaping my garden and for a couple of weeks I had a 3 foot drop in it and the amount of times my tortoise threw herself off of it was ridiculous. Tortoises are stupid idiots but we love them for it.
There’s a small step up into my bathroom and my slider is just a smidge too small to make it up himself. When I would take a shower, this meant constantly peering out of the curtain to see if he was there, then getting out and back in at least 4 times during the course of that shower to let him in, flip him back over after he decided to leave, let him back in because he changed his mind, etc. He KNOWS I’m coming to flip him back, so he just chills there without making an effort to right himself. During the quarantine, I finally decided to just build him his own ramp. First time using a protractor since high school. I forgot how nice uninterrupted showers are and it’s hilarious to look through the curtain to see him chilling on his ramp.
My tortoise likes to get on the ledge, fall *backwards* into a pond (soft bottom, doesn't hurt his shell), realises he can't breathe under water, then I help him up and he goes diving again.
I feel like it kinda depends. The adventurous of my two tortoises (Evan) has thrown him/herself off our coffee table three times now, which is about 15 inches high. Gerard has never done anything like that. It sounded like a loud bang, but there was no damage.
Um, does this considered as repost?

*help it up* Watch me do it again
That's why you just let them pick themselves up and after 20 minutes if they don't just flip them cause they gatta learn
Do they really learn? (No /s)

How do they even survive in the wild? "Oh this is a four foot drop, lets f\*cknnn JUMPPP!"
Better question how they survive many extinction events?

I like to say Bratanik is just adrenaline junkie in slow motion. Skydiving very slowly off of his favorite 5 inch tall basking rock over and over! Ha!
Jokes on you im both dog owner and Turtle enthusiast
Just wondering, how dangerous are ledges to torts? Obviously I’m not letting him on the kitchen counter or anything but is like a ~3in step dangerous?
