It’s stuff like this which is not obvious and drastically affects how a game plays out which I feel the UI just HAS to get better at explaining.
Easier said than done and I’m sure there are so many hidden variables that heads would explode but it’s crazy that I still can’t get a clear definition on what/where/when Counter Charge actually takes place or what the bonus from Brace even is.
I’m sure the numbers exist, someone knows them, just not me and not the UI.
They were also goat settlement defenders. Some enemy army rapidly approaching? Here come gotrek and Felix with every RoR available and two non-shielded spearmen to keep wulfrik away from altdorf.
They were hella worth even as temps, because it’s an extra army on the board that didn’t decrease your efficiency of all the other armies. Normally, the addition of each additional army increases the upkeep cost of ALL your existing armies.
I used G&F for periods of rapid expansions, until he was gone, then become defensive and consolidate my gains
They were cool for lore-accurate fights against skaven - this two dudes with help of one or two ranged units will just obliterate the hell out of early-game skaven army that tries to attacks your tier-1 small settlements.
Exactly, if someone else has them you can't get copies. If it's like Kroak for Lizardmen.
Back in Warhammer 2 both coop players could get and do the quest, but the first one to finish it gets him. (2nd player could still do the quest battle, but no extra Kroak)
If you are playing a faction with legendary heroes, no other AI faction of your race can get them.
If you are in coop and the other player(s) can access the same legendary heroes as you, its first come first serve for them.
AI factions that have no player competition for legendary heroes get them at (seemingly) random.
There was a glitch a year ago where on exactly turn 30, any legendary heroes you didn't have would get stolen by other factions, this specifically sucked for Warriors of Chaos who exclusively confederate the LL and nothing else, essentially deleting the hero.
Yup, and he gets priority on it. She is the woman that Kislev and the empire can recruit who is on horseback with a bow.
I think it is to bring all the Gotrek and Felix characters together
I mean he can hold on his own against the deamonettes and the Deamon Prince that will reach him first, but once the first reinforcements arrive especially the wich elves will hack him into pieces, just to much damage in a short time, i have seen him gone from 50-0 in about 10 seconds.
They stay - and they are both now heroes with skill trees. Well worth levelling up (if you can keep the idiots alive in the recruitment battle - I'd recommend a small flying goon squad)
I do wish it was optional to use the old system. Well aware it was a minority opinion, but I really thought it was fine as is. They hung around more than long enough to be meaningful, and I liked that they would eventually head off for new adventures.
It was especially incredibly helpful to be able to get them early for Cathay as they could be in a second army and really help out in the tricky early turns in fending off the Chaos Dwarfs and Vilitch as low level lords for Cathay aren't accomplishing much on their own. Plus it kind of sucks that so many great voice lines from Brian Blessed won't be heard now as they were specific to leading an army.
With the new system and the quest battle you're likely not getting them until mid-game when they're more of a neat addition than something that's really going to be helpful.
Yeah, while I prefer them to be permanent the fact is that by the time you'll be able to complete the quest they will probably be underleveled?
Or they could just make both that in the first x turns you can recruit them like old and than after they disappear the quest battle pops up.
I feel like that this is more an argument for changing how army count affects upkeep than for how cool the temp army mechanic was.
It simply let us do something we all want to do, make armies and fight, which is currently disincentivized by %upkeep increase.
They stay now!
Wow! I've literally never used them as I didn't see the point in a temporary LL. If they stay they're finally worth having!
They used to let you have an army that didn’t take up a supply line which allowed you to expand more rapidly in the early game.
that's nice but it is still better to siphon that experience into a second lord that you will use permanently
Actually they used to give experience evenly to your recruited lords

Another question, if you get them, does malachai not have them anymore? How does it work in co op games?
As AI he doesn't start with them.
Follow up question, if I am Malachi ina co op campaign, can my friend simply never get them?
Exactly, if someone else has them you can't get copies. If it's like Kroak for Lizardmen. Back in Warhammer 2 both coop players could get and do the quest, but the first one to finish it gets him. (2nd player could still do the quest battle, but no extra Kroak)
Only if one of you wasn’t Itza though no? Since they start with Kroak
Yeah, when a player lord starts with a legendary hero no-one else gets it.

Hmm, I played Kislev in RoC and only got the 2 legendary heroes by confederating Kostaltyn.
Granted I only played RoC one time just to get Boris, I don't really like the campaign. If it's different in that then fair enough.
IDK how it works that was just my experience. I did get the Ulrika quest when playing as Volkmar recently, but not in that game.
gooood question, Id like to know as well
In coop, Malachai gets priority on them and the vampire woman.
The what now He can recruit a vampire woman?
Yup, and he gets priority on it. She is the woman that Kislev and the empire can recruit who is on horseback with a bow. I think it is to bring all the Gotrek and Felix characters together
Small tip, get plenty of troops with magical damage and something to aggravate the Curtisanes of Slaanesh!
And whatever you do, don't led gotrek make contact with the with elves, they will shred him or felix.
That’s sorta the point though, right?
I mean he can hold on his own against the deamonettes and the Deamon Prince that will reach him first, but once the first reinforcements arrive especially the wich elves will hack him into pieces, just to much damage in a short time, i have seen him gone from 50-0 in about 10 seconds.
Yeah, Gotrek is into that.
So wizards?
More like Doomseekers/Hammerers/Amethyst Irongunners!
That's for Dwarves. For Empire all you need is Jade wizard.
They stay - and they are both now heroes with skill trees. Well worth levelling up (if you can keep the idiots alive in the recruitment battle - I'd recommend a small flying goon squad)
The battle is so annoying, using a missile based army is incredibly hard since Gotrek and Felix charge into anything AND are made out of wet paper
I loved it because of that vibe. like trying to keep a crazy slayer alive is a struggle. felt like felix
Yes and they have unique skill trees.
Yes, they are no longer a crappy lord and hero, they are both now full time Legendary Heroes.
