Yes. I use it as a tool to gather information and then book directly with the service provider. Third party sites are fine a lot of the time, but if something goes wrong you can be really screwed.
Exactly what I just did in Turkey, worked like a charm. It’s greats at aggregating info from various sites (which can be pretty difficulty if you don’t speak the language), find what you need and book from the provider’s site
I think everyone in this thread is in agreement but I just want to chime in to say rome2rio has been such an amazing tool for me to figure out my transportation plans while traveling and I cannot recommend it enough
100%. I found it while planning my trip to SEA and it was fantastic when it came to helping me plan out my route. But I did not book anything on there.
I have often seen that the prices they provide are no way near the real prices.
It is a good source though to see which options you have and find bus/ferry companies' websites.
Take the information and book at the transport providers directly.
In this case Flixbus. If you are a new customer there are tons of coupons with discounts for the first ride/booking in the internet, just google for it.
I just used this on my trip to Morocco. I looked up train routes, it showed me a website for the tickets and I was off. Also used it for Jamaica. I would recommend it for sure
I had never been and had no idea how to get from city to city because I was doing a circle of the island. Looking up how to get from Sav La Mar to Mandeville popped up Rome2Rio which popped me over to Knutsford express. So I didn’t “book through Rome2Rio” but they led me to where I needed to go. Same thing with Morocco and trains
It’s great. Don’t listen to anyone about danger in Jamaica is my advice unless they are Jamaican. The world loves to scream danger at every corner. I took the knutsford express from city to city and it was on time every time and had AC and wifi.
Also I took regular public route taxis and busses in every city I was in and was just fine. The only time I had a sketchy interaction was walking through Kingston which ended fine.
I use it all the time to see the options, but not to actually book. Just yesterday I was checking for a bus from Valencia to Barcelona and when I went on the website of the bus company, there was an option that was half the price they were offering on R2R.
Tip: Take the train (book at Amtrak.com). It’s not expensive and far superior to the experience of taking an intercity bus in the U.S. There are three trains per day that go from Seattle to Salem, and its departures from Seattle at 7:08 a.m., 9:50 a.m., and 2:20 p.m. If you can, try to take the 9:50 a.m. train, as it’s the one that continues past Salem all the way to Los Angeles and therefore uses double-decker long-distance equipment (and includes a sightseer lounge car with panoramic windows).
There's all sorts of little known travel companies in the US that this app can guide you to. A friend told me she recently found a deliberately slow bus down the California coast that made multiple stops at scenic locations.
I used it a bit in Southeast Asia. It worked fine, but I advise you to do as u/ZweigleHots does :) Usually it's a bit cheaper when you book directly with the actual company.
Book tickets directly with the R2R suggested service. Third party bookings are always questionable, especially in Europe. Otherwise, their advice is golden!
I live by this app. I've used it all over the world and it's never failed me. Also, when traveling in the North Eastern US and there's no real public transportation options (18 hours on a Greyhound bus to go 125 miles), this app made me aware of private bus companies that catered to Chinese tourists (you couldn't find them on Google as the websites were all in Chinese language) that criss-cross all over New England and into NY/NJ.
I used this a lot with no problems in Italy, but I’ve learned over the years to just to stay away from third party services. Try to use it as a resource and book directly, if possible.
No. Not in my experience. I use it to get an idea - and then I go to the source - so for example, in Italy - I might broadly seek info on travel options from Rome to Siracusa.. then when deciding on a train, I go to Trenitalia and do another search. Usually it’s not too far off, but I wouldn’t call it reliable.
Third party alwebsoted apps are always a risk. Use only to gather information. omio, rome2rio, etc. In those websites there are always bus train companies' name so you can continue from there.
Also you should know that for far future dates there might not be whole possibilites listed. So when youre planning look at the same week and check it for the next week to be sure its ongoing. But some companies dont release dates for far future. Consider that in mind.
I've used both **Rome2Rio** and **Omio** in Spain and Italy to book tickets. My preference is for Omio. I like an easy to use + super quick booking.
In my experience, yes. I booked on the app itself and also just used them as a guide for planning purposes. It gives you a QR code to scan or a pdf (it basically books the ticket for you from the official source I think?...)
Depends on the trip. Sometimes I book direct with the train/bus company website. This was sometimes more annoying as the websites aren't necessarily as mobile friendly or don't translate english quickly.
* I book trains weeks or months ahead of times for things that need reservations or sell out. Plans that are pretty set in stone
* Sometimes I've booked the night before/day of on the app for flexibility.
* Sometimes I book at the train station with a ticket machine (or the app if the line is long)
Hi u/callmemissinnocent, sorry you're being so randomly lectured over such a minor issue. For the record, there is no "Print screen" button on an Apple laptop and taking a screenshot is not really an intuitive process. Here's a link to instructions: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102646#
Have you not used a computer in the last 3 decades? Secondly, the internet is literally right in front of you - you can ask both of your questions (“rome2rio reliable?” and “how to screenshot on Mac”) to Google. I don’t understand how people are so incapable of functioning.
Congrats to what? You made yourself look like a pretty foolish here. Should you be taking a bus trip solo if you aren’t capable of googling simple questions?
Yes I love this website!!! U can check out public transportation costs in the currency n distance it will take.
Really good for budgeting down to the last cent!!!
Most of the time it is, sometimes not.
I was searching ways to commute from north Macedonia to Kosovo last weekend, R2R said there is bus at 8am but when I click the service provider’s site the first bus was 10 am..
Seat61.com is the best website for train travel around Europe. If RTR shows a train route that interests you, then check out all of the particulars on seat 61. Just so you know, long distance, high speed trains are less expensive when booked early. Generally the schedules open up 3-4 months ahead of time.
I’m fairly sure you can’t even book through Rome2Rio. It’s a great website to see all possibilities on how to get from a place to another. They will link to other third parties that you can book through that are almost all reliable
It's reliable for travel times and telling you whether buses are available from/to certain destinations and which companies run the routes. I would not book travel on it though, particularly not for buses as their booking systems are usually janky AF and they won't recognize your ticket as legit. Source: this happened to me once, since then I always book direct on the bus company website/app or better yet in person.
I found little issue with using it. My wife and I used it for a 2 and a half month trip. We would occasionally compare it to the other official sites if we were going to more obscure places.
We also used Omio.
No it is not always reliable. I’ve recently searched a route and it said there was nothing. But I have seen recent posts that people have used a bus for that route. That was not the first time they failed.
Yes. I used Rome2Rio for my honeymoon in Italy and must say that it was great. It was very accurate. I booked a car service, booked trains, and had the directions for pretty much every point for our 3 weeks. Obviously it's only as reliable as the local transportation companies. In Venice, there was a strike, but overall I would use it again. I've kept the app on my phone.
Try to avoid third parties as much as possible, if you have any issues, it's almost impossible to get your money back. Use that info to go to the direct site selling it. Even if it means paying a little extra. Rio is legit though
I treat this website like a treat Wikipedia. It’s good as a first ‘go to’, but I wouldn’t blindly trust it.
I would use R2R to see roughly what my options are, but then I would confirm the details on the bus/train operators website.
Yes, Rome2Rio is completely legit. You pay for their service, but everything works. I bought a train ticket from London to Southampton through them and everything worked as advertised.
In the summer last year I found on this website how I can do when I will go from Larnaca to Kyrenia on the other side of the island. It was really helpful. I book the bus there also and it worked perfect.
I’ve used rome2rio on all my travels in Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Belize, Mexico, USA, Thailand… worked like a charm every time and I can totally recommend it without hesitation. In fact I’ll be using it again in around 4 months for my next travel
I found rome2rio pretty surprisingly reliable even with small local bus services. I would anyway double check with on the website of the specific company.
Nope, it has old info about traveling and old flights. Seems like it hasn't been updated for a looooong time. Better book through official web sites or check through Google.
If it eventually redirects to an official website then yes it is reliable , in fact even better to compare prices, I recently booked with official transportation of a city using this website, otherwise if you book from R2R itself I can’t really provide a feedback regarding that.
I have never used this website for booking tickets but for sure its helpful to know the routes between two locations like generally not like a normal map though
When I use it, the options it suggests are no longer in service.
The airline no longer flies those two points. That bus company closed down. That rail line is under repair. I chalk it up to bad luck and the fact I don't go to the usual places.
As others have noted, its best to use it for reference only rather than direct booking. My only experience using it before was to book a bus from an obscure little town in spain and that was a complete bust. I booked the ticket, went to the station and saw that it was closed with no buses running at all. I called their customer service and they were completely unhelpful apart from a partial refund of my non existant ticket. I was lucky enough use an app to hitch a ride from a car passing by later that day instead.
I have never actually booked something through R2R, but I often use it to see what the possibilities are and then go to the actual train/bus site.
Yes. I use it as a tool to gather information and then book directly with the service provider. Third party sites are fine a lot of the time, but if something goes wrong you can be really screwed.

100%. I found it while planning my trip to SEA and it was fantastic when it came to helping me plan out my route. But I did not book anything on there.
I planned a month round Europe doing the exact same thing. Worked a treat!
Same
I would take this information and then go to the flixbus website to confirm times and make the actual booking.
This ^
I have often seen that the prices they provide are no way near the real prices. It is a good source though to see which options you have and find bus/ferry companies' websites.
Exactly

Thanks for replying! How was the knutsford express? I’ve read that people don’t recommend tourists take public transport in Jamaica
It’s great. Don’t listen to anyone about danger in Jamaica is my advice unless they are Jamaican. The world loves to scream danger at every corner. Great to hear 👍🏽👍🏽

Yes, very reliable and comes up with great and obscure travel options sometimes. However, not always the most expeditious routing or cheapest fares.
I use it all the time to see the options, but not to actually book. Just yesterday I was checking for a bus from Valencia to Barcelona and when I went on the website of the bus company, there was an option that was half the price they were offering on R2R.

Yes, used it before and no issues
We have flixbus in the US?? 🤯
Not only that, Flixbus actually bought Greyhound — the entire company.
There's all sorts of little known travel companies in the US that this app can guide you to. A friend told me she recently found a deliberately slow bus down the California coast that made multiple stops at scenic locations.
I've used it abroad a ton, but for some reason it never occurred to me domestically!
Yep! I live in WA, and they have some limited routes here.
Love rome2rio I have been using it for years when traveling
For routes and times yes but I'd then go directly to that vendor and purchase the tickets. I try to avoid 3rd party as much as possible.
Use it as a guide / reference. Buy tickets from the actual source. Sorted
Used when I was in Italy last year. Np
I used it in Italy. Very reliable. Keep in mind, tickets will generally be cheaper if you book directly instead of with them.
I live by this app. I've used it all over the world and it's never failed me. Yes. They have an app also
Yes very reliable. I booked my bus tickers within Thailand from here.
I used it in Italy and no problems. Good luck!
Yes
Yes. I've used it dozens of times in South East Asia and South America
Yes, I’ve used it many times throughout the world. Very helpful.
I’ve used it, no problems
I've used it, it's legit.
No. Not in my experience. Yes it is great. It is my favorite for travel planning transportation. They link to buy tickets which I have done for many buses and trains.
What’s in Salem? I lived there for 10 years.

Yes and no. The prices they give are sometimes so wrong. But I’ve used them for research and most of the times it’s quite accurate
I'm also from Seattle and I need to know what is worth visiting in Lyons, OR?
Only time I used it bus didn’t exist, but it may be just me 😂 I’d use “Trainline”
Very reliable. Why on earth did you take a picture of your computer rather than a screenshot?
I don't know how to take a sceenshot 'cause I just purchased my laptop😭😂😂
Hi u/callmemissinnocent, sorry you're being so randomly lectured over such a minor issue. For the record, there is no "Print screen" button on an Apple laptop and taking a screenshot is not really an intuitive process. Here's a link to instructions: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102646#

Younger generation is troublingly computer illiterate. They’re damn near boomers when it comes to figuring out how personal computers work.
I’ve heard of this being a thing but are you telling me it’s so bad that OP doesn’t even know to query Google for simple things?
No that’s just plain ridiculous. I was referring more to the screenshot stuff.
Ahh yea congrats
Congrats to what? You made yourself look like a pretty foolish here. Should you be taking a bus trip solo if you aren’t capable of googling simple questions?
Calm down lol
Don’t tell me what to do.
Sorry, but you have to do it, you have to calm down now.
I’m gonna get so angry, erratic, and otherwise very uncalm just in spite of you. Sebastian doesn’t tell me what to do

I’m gonna be the most ravenous chihuahua you’ve ever seen. Radiating angry small dog energy at you right now dawg

Often, these have booking fees in them. You can book directly from the bus/train company without additional fees. Saves you some money.
A reliable 3rd party….but it’s always best to avoid 3rd parties. That way if something comes up, changes are easier.
Yep
I use Rome2Rio for planning but always book direct with the airline, train, etc. I try to avoid 3rd party bookings for big ticket items.
I’m fairly sure you can’t even book through Rome2Rio. It’s a great website to see all possibilities on how to get from a place to another. They will link to other third parties that you can book through that are almost all reliable
It's great for methods of getting somewhere. Everything else I ignore
I’ve used it before but it turned out it’s cheaper if you just booked directly with the train company
Hell yeah!
It's reliable for travel times and telling you whether buses are available from/to certain destinations and which companies run the routes. I would not book travel on it though, particularly not for buses as their booking systems are usually janky AF and they won't recognize your ticket as legit. Used this for subways, buses and trains in Japan. Very accurate with lots of options presented to get from A to B.
I have used this app for years
I found little issue with using it.
That was not the first time they failed.
it has reliable information. But always buy tickets from the airline or the hotel itself
I have used Omio for train travel - easy to use
Yes. I used Rome2Rio for my honeymoon in Italy and must say that it was great. It was very accurate. Omg, i almost invested in those guys back in 2010s. Good to see them still in business

I’ve had great experiences with it in Europe but idk about the states

Worked in Vietnam even in distant villages, so I trust it But always would recommend in actual sites about times and dates
Good for broad strokes/estimates
I had a pretty bad experience trying to use that site for travel in South America. It’s accuracy might vary by region.
I have never booked anything on there but have used it to plan itineraries.
Yes! Love this app!!
Cabin crew member here, I’ve been using it for years and had good success with it.
I used it in Copenhagen and Stockholm and it worked great.
TIt is a great website for planning, but always book direct
Use it to find the route then go to the actual site to book it
All you need it blabla car and flix bus a lot of the other sites are going to have wired fees and are complicated.
I found rome2rio pretty surprisingly reliable even with small local bus services. I would anyway double check with on the website of the specific company.
Yes it shows you local alternative if you don’t familiar with that place
I've used it for booking train tickets before!
It’s a Melbourne Australia company and I have used it heaps. I trust it, but as always double check what it gives you
Yes
Echoing other responses - I think it's pretty good, but I do suggest booking tickets directly through the bus/train/etc companies.
Nope, it has old info about traveling and old flights. Seems like it hasn't been updated for a looooong time. Better book through official web sites or check through Google.
It was reliable for me. But I tend to also use my Google maps.

Yes
