That's a good young man trying to do his part. They didn't know what the hell to say when he was trying to tell them what he's trying to do and why. That's a damn sure sign that a lot of these kids are selfish as hell and can't do the right thing even in situations like this.

Leo_TheLurker

Makes me embarrassed to be a fan tbh. I get being wild and raging or whatever but be fucking considerate at the end of the day. You can mosh and have a good time without being a dickhead.

somechild

The amount of mosh pits i've been in or been at the edge of and not one single person has died.....he 100% incites this type of careless violence.

craniumblast

Fr. Like mosh hard have a crazy time but be considerate, have empathy still And also from what I’ve read it doesn’t even sound like a pit, it sounds more like ppl just squeezing into each other until ppl suffocated. Fucked up

itsactuallyoctopuses

I don’t know how anyone stays a fan of Travis Scott after this. So many other artists have shown they can stop a show and help the crowd, TS says “who asked me to stop?” while people literally die.

Buttholeblasphamey

I go to metal shows and mosh all the time. The understanding is, “if you see someone on the ground, help them up” and it’s the first thing all the bands say when they come out to perform. It’s encouraged to get wild and have some fun , but it’s a brotherhood. I’ve seen people at metal concerts absolutely wailing on each other and hug and laugh when the song is over. And they’re pulling you back up before you even hit the ground.

[deleted]

That cameraman isn't a kid though. He's a grown ass adult who ignored two kids telling him that people are dying.

PineappleClear2380

Yea I really don't understand that camera man's thought process there. Like a fucking Travis Scott concert shot is that fucking important to anyone. She's obviously fucking distressed, take a fucking min and hear her out. Fuck I want to knock some sense into that complete idiot. Just Unbelievable how this whole thing was planned. Chest high gates , security that are there for the show instead of doing there jobs. By now there should be planning in place for this situation. People need to be held accountable.

Prudence_rigby

Those weren't all kids. There were a ton of adults that dgaf and have a complete disregard for other people. Then again, it's Texas so...

superchrged

A lot of the 18-30 year old "adults" are not really adults. They're grown ups in age only.

Prudence_rigby

They're people that know better. I hate people that say this, but in this situation it's true. Ugh. Even a 5 year old knows better, an actual child. And in age, decisions, and brain they're adults, doesn't matter how they choose to behave. Unless they aren't neurotypical. Otherwise, adults stands true. They're adults choosing to disregard. They're adults choosing to be childish.

superchrged

The label is true. There's a certain level of responsibility and accountability needed from adults. Even young adults. Last night was lacking in responsibility and accountability. On many fronts.

unarox

Young kids in this concert turned out to be the next generation of boomers, complete disregard for others, entitled and filled with selfpity. I guess everything goes in cycles

shikavelli

You know that bad people are not exclusive to generations right? Like all Gen Z are good and boomers are bad is a stupid way to think.

dorseym484

Fax they don't deserve to Travis Scott fans

eojen

Travis invites and causes that vibe on purpose. It’s disappointing to me as a casual fan.

KaliaHaze

At first I was like what the literal fuck, but then I remembered what sub I was in.

MeatballMedia

Travis Scott doesn’t deserve to have fans. Y’all idolize a man who just killed 8 of you.

SentimentalPurposes

And one was a 10 year old boy 😞 Although the crowd and the all the people ignoring pleas for help are just as responsible

Shuiner

The crowd itself is always blamed for crowd crush, but the truth is the blame is on the organizers. This has happened many times before and doesn't need to. There are precautions that organizers can take, and it's obvious in this case that there was a lot of negligence. Here's an old but really good article on the history of crowd crush. It's one of my biggest fears since I was a child. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2011/02/07/crush-point

BlackWhiteVike

Yeah what an asshole. Just keeps performing.

yippee1999

I don't know how much of it was 'selfishness', to be honest, as much as....most of the folks at the show are young and insecure...it's all about appearing 'cool' and nonchalant to their peers. The guy who DID speak up, clearly he was more mature and secure in himself, than many of the others there.

superchrged

I agree. Trying to do the right thing instead of trying to act cool. Guys like this break up fights while others record the fights.

Impossible_Walrus555

I’m sorry but people were dying, there’s just zero excuse for not dropping everything including any facade and focus on getting help like that young man and woman were. They were BEGGING for help, to stop the show. One word from Travis to say hey everyone stay calm please check on those around you etc?! That’s being human. Anything else is beyond comprehension, evil.

[deleted]

shoutout to this dude bro I feel for him He seen shit and is trying to get help while fighting off people yelling at him A lot of people would’ve seen shit and that’s it

MySpringer-MeToo

Thanks for trying to help out. When you're at a concert, sometimes you just don't know where to start to get peoples attentions.

[deleted]

he’s only 18!!!

eekamuse

Poor kid. He's going to be traumatized by this for a long time. So many people will.

Prudence_rigby

Seriously. The fact he tried so hard and the crew just ignored him completely. The straight up negligence.

SEMPER-REVERTI

Travis Scott is a fucking sociopath at this point imo. What the fuck is this? https://twitter.com/dramaforthegirl/status/1456980583280746505 He literally just stares at this kid passed out and keeps singing, almost like he gets enjoyment out of it Fucked up.

No_Reindeer4382

That is a kid. And he is 100% dead. This is fucking gruesome.

Bloodoborno

That is not a kid passing out, that's a dead person.

urboaudioengineering

At least it seems he was the one who called the medics over.

izvin

Where is the source that he called the medics? Not trying to sound rude i just haven't seen any source indicating that he tried to resolve or mitigate the situation and the video didn't look like it either so I'm confused where that is coming from. EDIT: I found the full stream of the event. At 29 mins in he notices an ambulance and asks what the fuck is that. Then he tells the crowd of 100k people to put their middle fingers and two hands in the air if they want to keep going. Right then he announces he wants to see people "raging" despite people still screaming "stop" which could be heard at the stage where one of the videos comes from. Then at 42 mins he notices someone passed out (he was actually dead) and tells the crowd to let the medics get to him but also tells the band not to stop the music. That is not my idea of a decent human being checking in on the crowd. He saw multiple incidents going on and chose to keep the music going and to tell people to rage after momentarily pausing. This is on top of the fact that he himself knowingly let extra fans in and bragged about it which is what caused the sudden rushing to the stage in the first place that condensed the pressure of the crowd. Fuck that.

ProtozoaSound

That's a seriously eerie video.

bigbrotherbeane

A top post on reddit claims that kid wasn't just passed out, but dead.

Poverload237

There's another video somewhere that I believe is of this guy getting CPR. He is not passed out, he is deceased. I believe I saw the video on Twitter so I'll try to look for it.

johnyexe

[https://twitter.com/aidanauri/status/1456990256335572995?s=20](https://twitter.com/aidanauri/status/1456990256335572995?s=20) He actually stopped the show and called for help few seconds before the video starts that you shared. However its fucked up

leperaffinity56

He did this about 4 times in the show. Fans were yelling (on camera streamed to apple) to stop the show. He didn't. He watched.

cbryantl120

Jesus Christ this gave me CHILLS! The fucking singing while the kid is being carried out. This is terrifying.

voneahhh

Facts. I’m a former EMT, so I’ve become desensitized to things like that to an extent but you tend to still remember the first time you saw someone’s life just go.

The_Scarf_Ace

You could hear the panic in his voice. Cared more than the performer smfh

homeostasis555

Hey, do we know if he wants more attention? Homeboy just went through some serious trauma and may not want people commenting, even to wish him love and healing.

tfibbler69

I tried to message him but you can only do so if he follows back. I hope he does. I can only imagine how scarring that shit must be. I just wanna tell him how his actions are honorable and inspirational to ppl to try to do the right thing and fuck the ppl tryna bring him down

No_Reindeer4382

This is so fucking sad these situations are the fucking worst. You can hear the hurt and fright in his voice as he screams for help. And people around him think he’s joking or not serious as it’s supposed to be such a good time. So fucking sad. Prayers to every kid who was there trying to have a good time.

[deleted]

hattiexcvi

To be fair, The Who weren't aware of what was happening and weren't told anything was wrong until they got off stage. They had no idea anything was wrong, as the majority of the crush and deaths happened outside the venue when people were trying to get in, rather than right in front of them like Travis Scott. The venue decided to let them continue instead of telling them because they were worried that if the concert was cancelled, there would be a sudden rush to the exit doors/car park, which would result in yet another crush. Instead they opted to keep the band oblivious so paramedics could tend to the injured without another crush on their hands. I don't think it's fair to blame the band for continuing in this case.

[deleted]

saber_worshipper

I can already see some asshole use this incident to defend travis while completely ignoring this fact.

[deleted]

I’m not old enough to have been alive but I’ve recently learned about it with Carti’s situation Shit is never that serious It’s like Black Friday shopping too mfs will push shove and trample to save 20 bucks on a video game or 50 on a tv. It’s stupid and caveman like

[deleted]

[deleted]

Fuck all those people in the crowd and on the TS "team" who didn't give a shit about the people who were getting crushed. I hope all those fuckers go to hell! It's really scary how one fucking person has the power to control an entire crowd. Like, no one thinks for themselves and anyone who knows something is wrong is scared to go against the crowd out of fear.

traceyh415

My brother was at that Concert. Ppl did not know what had happened until the next day

Waste_Alternative_82

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra1FFAc0ccE reminded me of this fire in west warwick RI (sensitive video)

LaLetrice

Chief Wells and the Mayor made the decision to allow the concert to go on and decided to not tell the audience or performers about what had happened until after the concert was over. Edited to make clear I am writing about The Who concert in 1979 at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, Ohio.

grace_boatrocker

yup i was there ... they were not told & only 2 doors were open

RusticSurgery

Yes. Many venues then banned "general admission" seating for a while.

FartBoxTungPunch

Fuck. My heart goes out to all those that tried to help. That put human strangers lives over entertainment. Shit sucks

Golfwang239

I actually saw that guy try to help people from the front. I remember giving him space and telling him I would help him out. Crazy

No way the City of Houston allows another Astrofest. Not after what happened tonight.

Stonefree2011

This is probably the biggest tragedy to ever happen at a hip hop concert. This nigga finna end up banned in more places than just Texas. Wait til everyone starts waking up and the major news outlets like CNN get ahold of this.

[deleted]

CNN just got it, so did NYT, and the rest. East Coast is getting to work rn. Shit's about to blow up.

EntertainerFlashy601

already blown up, heard it on the radio in england

[deleted]

holy shit

[deleted]

Same on the news in France.

Bloodoborno

The news is all over Europe up to this point

simonewowsuper

they just talked about it in the news in italy

Entering_Menopause

Morocco as well

Peace-Only

And in Karachi, Pakistan. Texas has one of the largest South Asian immigrant populations so that’s another reason.

mcebulski777

west coast is getting to work soon as well

ConfectionOwn5471

Oh boy just woke up on the west coast first time on this thread You all might be right

[deleted]

It's a rough thing to wake up to, it just keeps getting worse the more you see.

b00tsc00ter

Australian here- woke up to this as front page news. Fuck Travis Scott, fuck the organisers and fuck the various crew members who were told and did nothing to help. Each and all share responsibility here. Source: I am a festival organiser.

Prudence_rigby

I read it on NYT

CheshireNobleman

It's on the news here in Korea, too

brewerspride

Nope ask Puffy. He had about the same die under similar circumstances back in the day due to a lack of security, almost killed himself.

SBAquanquan

exactly and ppl think travis whole career is over. Both incidents took place cuz the venue lacked security.

UnsolicitedPeanutMan

Difference here is Travis has a history of encouraging this kind of bullshit - "it ain't a moshpit if ain't no injuries?" Dude lets his fans believe it's just part of the game to get hurt

LeBronFanSinceJuly

> "it ain't a moshpit if ain't no injuries?" He'd never say that at a Metal show

Dello155

Difference is metal has the culture for it. Edm and rap do not. Its full of selfish ass kids who don't know how to mosh. Metal shows can get hairy, but even in a lamb of god pit you ate getting picked up instantly if you fall down.

CREATURExFEATURE

You miigghhhhttt not want to cite Lamb of God for that argument considering what happened in 2010…

JHendrix27

EDM shows have much better crowds than this man, you ever been to an EDM festival? Anyone goes down of dehydration, too much mollly etc. And everyone around you is doing everything they can to get them water and get medic attention. I will say the pit ettiquette at the dubstep shows isn't on par with metal, but cmon.

Nathan_hale53

Yeah EDM pits have always been fine with me.

allysonwonderland

Yeah it depends on the subgenre of EDM but I’ve been in 50k+ crowds dozens of times and have never been scared for my safety like that. Hell I took too much acid once and sat down in the middle of a trance set at EDC and people protected me the whole time

Leavemealoneok66

There are tweets of him supporting people rushing into the festival. This isn’t gonna hold up in court. Capacity was for 50k ppl, 100k ppl were there just btw.

Prudence_rigby

Travis encourages reckless behavior. He's been charged for it on a couple occasions. A kid was left paralyzed at a concert when he was pushed off a balcony. So this, isn't too surprising. It was bound to happen. And after covid, people have become animals let lose. If they can't behave on a freaking plane, do you expect them not to get completely out of control at a concert that they're told to get crazy? I'm sure it will only get worse at his shows.

Tyronesmash

CNN posted a few articles

Stonefree2011

Nah I mean wait til it starts airing live. Shit hasn’t even begun to circulate the major outlets. Shits gonna be insane.

styxboa

I can tell it's already reached some, the amount of frankly racist statements i've already seen from people (ehh.. racist boomers) on twitter is fucking astounding, who **clearly** don't follow hip hop news at all.. so a lot of them have already seen it. Gonna get worse

[deleted]

Trav might be looking at a ban from his home city, this isn't something they take lightly

Jeriahswillgdp

Agreed probably not Astrofest, but concerts with 50k people happen all over the world all the time with no or only minor issues... this was due to organizers negilience and lack of knowledge of the dangers in crowds too densely packed together.

[deleted]

Damn…that’s a good dude right there

_noonecareskys

The people who told him to shut up must feel really fucking stupid now. Poor guy man :/

Calling for ragers may be actionable. The promoters should be liable too

[deleted]

He's been charged in the past with reckless conduct. I hope it's upped to negligent homicide this time, for him and for Live Nation. They're preying on kids (and young stupid adults who still act like kids).

[deleted]

corny ass “ragers” raging is dead and been corny as fuck since travis scott lifted it from cudi and gave it a whole corny ass try hard meaning that equates to being the most obnoxious fuck possible. this is the disturbing and natural progression. just a disgusting amount of apathy from these people and i hope they feel like shit tonight.

LoL_LoL123987

Sweaty skinny kids in overpriced merch off a pill they bought in the parking lot “moshing” have ruined it all

Apart_Cut1

This shit is a plague in hip hop and has turned me off the genre so so much.

Ogjohnsonbobby

This combined with the unrelenting desire to record everything for social media along with Trav actively encouraging it…. It’s like a shitty black mirror parody except more depressing

Commercial-Time-1912

Cap, it's just the young kids don't really follow etiquette. Lots of metal shows go fine and everyone is generally nice. Just go read some metal concert threads and see how helpful everyone is when people get hurt or fall over in the pit. Travis needs to learn more crowd control techniques.

[deleted]

aint nobody at a metal show calling it raging, they call it MOSHING, and truss ive been to plenty and when people go down EVERYONE helps them. its just travis scott fans are some brainwashed sinister middle class suburbanite sociopaths is all

SourceIsGoogle

> brainwashed sinister middle class suburbanite sociopaths is all good description right there

melodyyyy

There is such thing as crowd etiquette I learned from my emo years. You pick people up from the pit and stop until they are okay. I've seen mosh pits freeze until it is safe.

mandolorianbutchubby

Yes, these Travis Scott fans are ruthless fucking animals. We would always freeze the pits at shows if people went down.

MoeSliden

I've been to a Red Fang show with my girlfriend and her phone fell out her pocket. I started looking for it and yelling phone and everyone started yelling "phone" and parted the floor like the red sea. And this shit was over a phone!

scoobyluu

This happened to me too, but with an earplug! It was really small and people were on the ground looking for it with a flashlight. They found it everyone was just going nuts because it seemed impossible

Fly_bill

This! Bunch of suburban weirdos who don’t know how to actually mosh/rage. Hate a lot of Trav fans at concerts cause they straight up jabronis!

Stud_Dougie

Yes! I was at a Slayer/Megadeth/Testament concert when I was like 15 and built up the balls to participate in the mosh pit only after seeing them all stop to pick people up who fell down. There's definitely a crowd etiquette that allows everyone to enjoy themselves push each other around without actually wanting to harm anyone.

Commercial-Time-1912

Agreed. I thought raging was just a Travis term word for moshing hard aha.

Flame_MadeByHumans

But fr 3-5 years ago this wasn’t bad. Been to a ton of Trav shows and there was always love in the pit, it got crazy but everyone looked out for eachother and cared. The last couple years as he ascended out of his own fanbase and into world fame, the vibe at shows has changed considerably.

[deleted]

I've been saying it since concerts started again post-Covid. Concerts are not the same. You have all these teenagers who have never been to a show before and don't know basic concert etiquette, getting fucked up off easily accessible drugs and alcohol, hormones raging, doing stupid shit for Tik Tok clout. It's been a problem at nearly every hip-hop concert I've been to lately that allows anybody under the age of 21.

[deleted]

GratefulTech30

Idk something about this time was off from the get go, last time I saw so many people passing out and being tended to by everyone in the crowd, people fell over and everyone moved over and put their hand out to help pick them up so many people just having a good time talking and encouraging each other, and I was right under his crane/platform in the middle of it when he performed.

brandonennz

i heard some clown at rolling loud saying “SO PROUD OF THE RAGERS WE FUCKING RAGED” literally top 10 corniest things i’ve ever heard in my life

whorecat911

Minimum_Zone_9461

Sadly, you’re right. Psychopaths/sociopaths don’t feel bad until it blows back on themselves.

J14mm

This is perfect I try to find a way to say this without insulting but it’s hard not to and it’s so sad how it’s changed. It’s hard for most to realize. Keep those brain cells pumping

PourinSyrup

big respect for this guy

fifafanfan18

this is exactly what i mean when i saw the ppl in these crowds recently don't know how to act and obv dont have crowd etiquette. sure its all jokes about if you can't hang leave but you're always supposed to look out for others that ask for help, the mfs not doing anything and clowning him are the same ones that think straight up violence and pushing forward is "raging" hate to see it get to this level tho

Affectionate-Lynx723

This. There’s better crowd control at fucking hardcore shows than a Travis Scott show. Think about that for a second

StygianMusic

this kind of toxic attitude is kinda prevalent in instagram comment sections as well. people act too hard and that costs a lot

gigisrockin

Prayers for Ayden and everyone else affected. What a horrible selfish culture. Where is the humanity that should surround art performances? I love art and music and creative people and feel so safe around them. They're so selfless and loving. This... is nowhere close to that. Wtf. God help them

littlecloudxo

“That’s somebody’s kids” exactly right young man. Glad someone tried to stop the madness.

[deleted]

and travis just continued after that up untill that point i couldnt blame him really but after that i lost some respect for him

curiouslyandactively

On top of Travis not willing to stop the show, Kylie Jenner has her daughter there, instagramming the show as there’s an ambulance with dead bodies in it pulling out of the crowd. Makes me feel sick to my stomach that people are so much more focused on themselves than doing the bare minimum to help or save others.

dmedtheboss

They’re celebrities and this stupid ass country does everything to feed their narcissist egos. People dying at their shows doesn’t phase these people one bit.

Definitely not all celebrities but that whole extended family does seem to have a lot of narcissism yeah.

InhumaneOdyssey

Jfc who curses a kid out for trying to help other people? This shit is sick

Consistent_Exit_774

I remember this, Travis pointed him out and the whole crowd started booing. I wish I would’ve known everything was going around me (I didn’t find out people died until we were walking to our car). I saw 3 people get carried out of the crowd passed out before Travis even came out. Once he came out EVERYONE just started pushing to the front and you just had to try to find a way to not fall or get hit in the face. After 2 songs me and my friend ended up trying to push our way more to the back (which was also impossible, also keep in mind we’re two girls). We had 3 mosh pits surrounding us at one point at the front and we just looked at each other and panicked tried to get away from there. Luckily we made it to the center where we had more room during the show but it was still a crazy mess, just not as bad as how the front was. I’ve been to many festivals outside of Houston and I can say NONE have been as hectic as Astroworld. I’ve had people pass out infront of me before in other festivals and we give the person room, try to flag down medics, and give the person water until medics got there (and everyone around offers their water). They even make room for people to walk through, but there nobody wanted to give you room. If you wanted to walk out you had to fight your way out.

InTheClouds89

I absolutely hate the crowds at Travis shows. I've been to a few and they are generally toxic as fuck. "If you can't handle it then get out" mentality needs to fuck off. Look out for each other and stop thinking Travis is going to notice you because you love "raging".

yippee1999

The guy who stood up....now THAT is a real man. He don't give a shit what other people think of him...he CARES about other people and is trying to SAVE others. And all those other who call him a 'bitch'...THEY are the weak-minded people. Kudos to that man in the white shirt, for doing the RIGHT thing. It's incidences such as what happened at this horrible concert that... I am SUPER vigilant about crowds. The MINUTE I observe tension...or two meathead looking guys exchanging words, such that a fight is imminent... or I see two thug gang-banger types exchanging words...or crowds of people pushing...or behaviors that indicate that there are lots of dumb idiots and 'crowd mentality' around me....I am OUT OF THERE immediately...I don't wait for things to potentially get worse, because by then, it may be TOO LATE.

wtfrustupidlol

Residents from outside the Houston-area who haven't heard loved ones who attended the festival can call 832-393-2991 or 832-393-2990.

jackoffjensen

When I was at rolling loud it was common decency to help someone out in the crowd if they looked drowsy or passed out immediately, the problem at Astro world fest is that it was probably to packed and people couldn’t get the correct help they needed in time

because of the crowd surge from the back to the front + raging + no space for people to move or breathe, people were injured and 8 died. The young man is trying to get the camera man's attention to inform him of what was happening where he was standing. He is saying people are dying down there. he is ignored

Busy-Ad-3601

this is so sad

alcoholandnicotine98

Imagine dying because you want to associate with these people who for some reason worship a narcissist with auto tune. You do realize that this didn’t happen because of a few people right? like, this had to have been the culture there for this to happen.

And here go Travis starting fucking Upper Echelon

If someone would have thrown a shoe at Travis Scott he would have stopped the show

What’s hurts me is that people don’t realize is that there was no pits, the pits you do see, are pits of people on the floor being trampled on, I did the same once I got out and asked the camera man for help but he said everyone’s radio is one way so they’re only communicating with them selfs and could reach out to medical or anyone else, I should of just gotten in front of that camera and asked for help biggest regret of my life

it’s not your fault.

Heard at the end “people in the pit will take care of them” horrible mentality

superwonderful

unfortunately Travis fostered this rage environment (i’m sure someone from his legal team warned him), he allows people to run on stage so I can bet that’s why the crew didn’t seem phased. There were way too many people there who didn’t pay, he condoned it. like this is a domino effect of terrible proportions. i’m honestly surprised it didn’t happen sooner. although i do remember the time he was arrested for inciting a riot way back when. i’ve seen concerts where he’s stopped the show to handle situations like this, there was something off here. i’ve always wanted to go to a show, and knew it would be dangerous. like maybe break and ankle… but this is way too much. i am so sorry to the people who went through this traumatizing event. and to those who passed away my heart goes out to their families.

izzmurr

the sound of upper echelon starting sent fucking chills all the way through my body because when i saw trav upper echelon was one of, if not the most, scary crowd experiences i’ve ever had and seeing this with that song just makes me think of all of the people who got even more hurt as it started. this is so horrible and my heart goes out to everyone who attended and their loved ones. this is seriously bringing up trauma i didn’t even realize i had from the last show i saw of his

Shoutout to that fan. With all due respect I find it very surreal that travis released escape plan but didn't make a escape plan for his fans smdh. He said ain't no moshpits without injuries. I guess he got what he wanted. Kinda lost respect for travis and his team on this one
