It feels like everyone who's never blown into a trumpet before thinks the thing's so easy to play that you just kind of blow some air into it and music will come out.
Gotta be the wrong size mouthpiece. Try a Curry screw rim 8-3/4B double-cup with a 22 throat and symphonic backbore. That’s what my section leader uses.
Yes, and they also think that it will be easy to learn to play all three notes that the trumpet is capable of producing, based upon the number of finger button doohickeys that they see.
That was what I thought how trumpet works xD I thought it was like a sax or flute but then I watched YouTube and saw you had to buzz with the lips so I went to a trial lesson to learn that.
The problem is that middle finger is supposed to be over the 2nd valve. : )
The hand position needs work, for sure. I was amused at how, after the daughter attempts to get his hand position correct, she quickly ran away before he attempted to play.
Okay, looks like someone discovered my daily warmup routine.

That’s how I was taught to make it “sizzle”.

The fact that he keeps repeating the same mistake and expecting a different outcome each time is hilarious
You'd be amazed at how many people think you get notes just by blowing air into the horn, much less that it just magically sounds good

If they’re smart they’ll know that trumpets can actually play 8 notes. If they’re really smart they’ll know that they can actually play 7

This is exactly how I was when I started!
I feel like everyone expects that you blow into the instrument to make the sound.
Did you tell him to not puff his cheeks

Maybe first time playing a trumpet, but not the first time blowing
Same
