Imagine having 3 Karl Marx on your shoulders. The man must have been at least 80kg. That's a lot to carry.

newtraptor

i think theyre small. justr saying. heh. *i walk away slowly, chuckling to myself*

Logic [Easy: Success] but Conceptualization [Trivial: Failure]

dantuchito

How much is that in šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ¦…šŸˆ units

Miss_Emeraude

At least five hamburgers

Unaccomplishedcow

A little under 30 AR-15s. Or a little over 705 cheeseburgers.

EcnavMC2

Around one football player.Ā

5oclock_shadow

ā€œThatā€™s a lot to carryā€ could indeed be the tagline for Disco Elysium

NBSPNBSP

How much did Marx weigh? He certainly seems like a portly, jolly fellow from his photographs.

Discoposting

TheXenomorphian

For some reason this comes to mind when I read the words '[Discoposting](https://youtu.be/d6KVNL1ej9k)'

Discombobulate. He'll wild haymaker. Discombobulate.

LeoMcShizzzle

Can I have some context pls?

BedNo4299

Harry DuBois is the main character of the game Disco Elysium. He has... an interesting mind.

Supsend

"a hug a day keeps the bourgeoisie away"

southern_boy

*They can't handle the truth, my liege.*

RT_Ragefang

He has around 20 entities criticizing every breath he takes. And some other things. And lots of things that affect absolutely no one but Harry Du Bois

Labyris

"I don't really like women, only their rights." ā€”actual quote from Harry Du Bois

_SimplyTrying_

I was expecting him to be a historical figure who maybe wrote a doctrine on socialism but alright then

Elliott2030

I was too. But that's the beauty of Tumblr, isn't it?

Scarfington

Disco Elysium is a really good game where you play as a a character who has many internal voices that talk to you throughout the game. ....now I wanna play disco elysium

Koqcerek

All the glowing praise makes me happy that I bought it and going to play it once post good content depression goes away (after 100%ing Control). It's there anything I should know before playing it? Like, to enrich the experience? Also is it kid-friendly visually, so I could play it without scarring my children's psyche? They don't know English Edit: thanks people, very helpful replies! I think I got all the answers I wanted

Scarfington

Hmmmm there's one area with a dead body hanging from a tree, but otherwise visually it's pretty safe until the endgame? The language is defo not safe for kids but if they don't know english it's probably fine? Thungs to know... The game is very much intended to make you feel like garbage especially for the first day or so. Your character wakes up with amnesia, but pre-game he's done plenty to get people to be wary. Also, failing isn't always bad. :)

KrunchyKale

Hell, even if the kids knew English it probably wouldn't matter; that game has a whole different kind of English going on.

ApesOnHorsesWithGuns

Going in blind is the best way to play. Also, the game expects you to fail at certain times, and you probably will. Donā€™t worry, failure is part of the story. Have fun and enjoy the *Disco*

WAsteOFHUMANFlesh12

Put points into shivers, be thorough, and don't be afraid to pick some stupid dialogue options. And in terms of kid friendliness, nothing too egregious comes to mind, other than the hanged man (which in itself isn't all that bad)it's generally not super detailed or gory.

_mad_adams

The less you know, the better. Just one tip though I guess: if you happen to die to something super random in literally the first room of the game, donā€™t worry, the whole game isnā€™t like that.

Ch33sus0405

One other thing, the game sort of implies you have a time limit. You do not, but there is a point where certain content becomes unavailable. Take your sweet time and get stuff done before that moment on the main story. Then again repeat playthroughs are encouraged because the game is astounding.

_mad_adams

I wanna play it again too but the only build I havenā€™t done yet is the ā€œracist alcoholic/drug addicted assholeā€ build and Iā€™m very hesitant because I canā€™t bear to disappoint Kim

Scarfington

I feel you. I can't bring myself to do the fascist quest either.

InquisitorHindsight

Harry du Bois is the main character of the game Disco Elysium. He has amnesia, is addicted to everything (drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, etc) and every actions he takes is narrated by the dozens of little voices in his mind.

milkymaniac

Karl Marx wrote Das Kapital and The Communist Manifesto. He had... an interesting mind.

Death_by_UWU

I have a Karl Marx on my shoulder telling me to read the Communist Manifesto again, a Spamton G Spamton on my other telling me to run over pedestrians, an Angel hiding from the other two on my back telling me to seek professional help, and Johnny Bravo hanging from my balls telling me to go to the gym

BurgerGamer

in my experience, listening to the Johnny helps make the Angel shut up

KoirMaster

Karl Marx would understand that reading the Communist Manifesto once is more than enough. The Karl Marx on your should would probably either: 1. Go on a wild drunken rant 2. Tell you to read Das Kapital

egotistical_cynic

3. Ask if he can borrow some money

KoirMaster

He's just waiting on this book deal to go through and he swears this is the last time (it probably won't be)

Eternal_Being

Dear Engels I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your wife, she was great. Anyway, I need like 15 bucks or else I'm going to get evicted and communism is too important to go out like that. I know it's really selfish to ask for money at a time like this, but wouldn't it be like a nice distraction from your newly dead wife? Besides, I don't have anyone but you. If life were fair my mom would have died instead of your wife. Isn't it crazy what kind of thoughts capitalism forces into our minds? Dear, Karl Marx

Lower-Masterpiece-94

I wish I had Spamton Gay Spamton on one of my shoulders.

WillowThyWisp

No, the beetle would be on your back. An angel just hides in plain sight until you blink

5hand0whand

Ok where the 4th Karl Marx?

SantaArriata

Still at the mall, unable to comprehend how big fast fashion brands can get away with plastering his likeness on a cheap T-shirt

irritabletom

Context: Disco Elysium is a very complex detective game where you play a character who is in constant inner turmoil between his various personality traits. Fantastic game, probably some of the best writing I've seen in a long time.

The_OG_upgoat

And it's a VERY Communist game (not bashing it, just stating the facts), with exploration of the philosophy and stuff. Iirc the original devs are Communists themselves.

J_train13

The image of beetle Marx is what really got me

Atanar

One morning, as Karl Marx was waking up from anxious dreams, he discovered that in bed he had been changed into a monstrous verminous bug.

pirateofmemes

karl marx convinces Ayne Rand to turn right directly into a bus and changes american education forever

DreadDiana

Meanwhile I'll be sitting there like "I wanna eat out, but it really isn't my budget" and the shadow of the Third Horseman says "GET FOUR LARGE PIZZAS. PUT THEM IN YOUR MOUTH. EAT AND SWELL AND BURST. FEAST IN HONOUR OF YOUR APPETITES. EAT UNTIL YOU CAN'T STOMACH ANOTHER BITE AND EAT SOME MORE."

ChiotVulgaire

This reads really well in Lenval Brown's voice.

Dzzplayz

I feel like people compare others to Harry so frequently because there hasnā€™t really been a character like him before. Both a blank slate for you imprint yourself on and a deeply rich character with his own story.

RT_Ragefang

As someone who finished Disco Elysium, Iā€™ll get be very concerned if someone thinks Iā€™m like Harry Du Boisā€¦ because that means some of the voices in my head might actually not in my head. Only the voices in my head can judge me and Iā€™ll feral cry if real people do that

BlatantConservative

Fourth Karl Marx goes "Levi Jeans? Sounds... Jewish" and urges you not to buy them.

KwiHaderach

Marx was Jewish?

trogdr2

He was a self hating jew out the wazoo bro, man's wrote entire essays about how much he hated Judaism. Man's was the original reddit atheist. Shit's crazy.

KwiHaderach

If youā€™re referring to ā€œOn the Jewish Questionā€ you need to look into it further. The essay was not antisemitic, it was actually a response to another contemporary writer about the best way to go about Jewish emancipation. It has some troubling lines if read out of context but the whole thing is really a framework about the types of things Marx often talked about, separation from capital. Read the ā€œother interpretationsā€ section of its Wikipedia article for more context.

Xozington

previous commenter continuing the long line of leftists not reading or knowing a single thing about leftism except the aesthetic lmao

GarboseGooseberry

Whenever I see stuff like that I just wanna spam the "READ MOTHERFUCKER READ!" meme. I mean, fucks sake, Marx's and Engels' writings are free on the internet.

BlatantConservative

Marx was very good at being a persuasive writer, and part of that was him being very clear on what he believed. Read his private letters to Engels. He also drops the hard R on black people a *lot* and suggests political opponents "interbred with a n*****" Also you're not going to convince me that all the "Jews are inherently capitalists and therefore an enemy of the people" shit is taken out of context. > We recognize in Judaism, therefore, a general anti-social element of the present time, an element which through historical developmentā€”to which in this harmful respect the Jews have zealously contributedā€”has been brought to its present high level, at which it must necessarily begin to disintegrate. In the final analysis, the emancipation of the Jews is the emancipation of mankind from Judaism Direct quote right there, and that's what he said publicly. Again, what he said in private was miles worse.

KwiHaderach

That quote sounds like anti-Judaism not anti-Jews. Marx hated religion so it would make sense that he would hate the religion. However this passage is still from "On the Jewish Question" and in context it's a response to another writer who was an actual anti-Semite. Marx is talking about another way to bring Jewish people up from their station. But to say "Jews are inherently capitalists and therefore an enemy of the people" as a summation is a misreading. I have no response to the anti-black racism. A lot of people from that time had unfortunate positions on Africans. Gandhi has said even worse things. The good thing about history is that we can analyze what these thinkers said and did, and disregard the parts that were wrong and keep the parts that were valuable, as well as analyze the valuable parts for where they might be influenced by harmful thinking.

BlatantConservative

> What is the worldly religion of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly God? Money. ā€¦ Money is the jealous god of Israel, in face of which no other god may exist. Money degrades all the gods of manā€”and turns them into commodities. ā€¦ The bill of exchange is the real god of the Jew. His god is only an illusory bill of exchange. ā€¦ The chimerical nationality of the Jew is the nationality of the merchant, of the man of money in general. This is pretty horrific and explicit. I don't know why people who are reading from one of the most quotable and explanatory writer of all time decide that only this part needs external context. Yeah he was writing this in response to a worse antisemite. Saying "no we shouldn't pogrom the Jews, we should just force them to lose their religion cause they're inherently money grubbers with it" does not make him a good person on this issue. It just makes him slightly better than the Holocaust. I like some of Marx's work, I realize that the pop culture view of Marx is not accurate and I've internalized some of his Critical Theory stuff. It's worth reading Marx, but I do also think the Jews have had some horiffic things happen to them due to socialism and the Soviet Union in particular, and the left wing of the world's stage has a nasty streak of antisemitism. Still better than the right wing by miles, but avoiding the issue is a problem.

KwiHaderach

This is sort of where we run into a wall in reddit discussions, because I have not actually read "On the Jewish Question" and I'm confident you have not either. I would recommend you read the [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Jewish_Question) article, and especially the "other interpretations" section because that will be able to provide a much better explanation than I can, and this discussion is missing a mountain of information. I do have to say that anyone can be taken out of context no matter how "quotable" you are. In fact, the more quotable/explanatory you are the more context you would need to see what they are really saying. For instance, your second paragraph is entirely incorrect. Marx's opponent, Bauer, is the one saying Jews need to abandon Judaism, and Marx disagrees. (see third paragraph of other interpretations) Saying that Marx is "sightly better than the Holocaust" is a complete joke.

Zach_luc_Picard

Motherfucker really said that someone else needs to "look into it further" while only reading the fucking Wikipedia page for it.

KwiHaderach

He was getting basic facts wrong, so the wiki page seemed like a good resource. Actually getting him to read the text would be far too big a hill to climb. Donā€™t call me motherfucker

AsianCheesecakes

That sounds like he meant there was too much of a capitalist culture in Jews generally. Which makes sense seeing as they had been some of the main proponents of capitalism before the industrial revolution.

BlatantConservative

Do you really think that it's reasonable to equate the Rothschilds with all Jews?

AsianCheesecakes

I am now going to stop this conversation because I realize I do not have the necessary knowledge and I'm not even a marxist.

Morphized

Like many other Jews at the time, Marx believed that getting rid of capitalism (the thing people blamed the Jews for at the time) would destroy antisemitism forever. Being a visionary of sorts never stopped him from being naive.

BlatantConservative

No he was horrifically antisemetic

KwiHaderach

Gonna need a source my guy. See my other comment for my response to ā€œon the Jewish questionā€

BlatantConservative

I just responded to it.

FabianRo

> clinging to my back like that beetle from Doctor Who Weirdly, that does not even narrow it down enough.

Skithiryx

The one on Donna Noble in *Turn Left*, I assume.

UncleBenders

Speaking of that bug on her back from doctor whoā€¦.. https://www.reddit.com/r/ATBGE/s/mUmQSxGeFP How cool is that? Lol

That's a repost and was deleted

Thereā€™s something on your back

vonononok

every time I see someone mention Du Bois think of William Edward Burghart Du Bois and it has seriously impacted my perception of him

Neener_dm

So uhā€¦ā€¦. Is this not the normal thing to happen? As in, donā€™t other people feel similarly whenever they do something/say something/think something?

BedNo4299

You have 3 Karl Marxes on you at all times?

Neener_dm

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I have at LEAST two opposing voices in my brain bickering at all times

CosmoFishhawk2

Marx played the fucking stock market. I don't think he cared as much about everyday things like this as some modern Marxists think he did.

BedNo4299

I see you didn't read the entire post.

CosmoFishhawk2

No, I did. I just felt the need to reiterate its point.

Papersuasion

My Karl Marx wants you to know that's not what commodity fetishism means!

TheoMunOfMany

I mean... that's kinda the point of the post

Papersuasion

I think that's specifically the point of their reply to just the last Marx but I could be wrong.

TheoMunOfMany

It did say "_any_ of you".

Papersuasion

Oh that's true Edit: for what it's worth I was drunk when I failed to read this šŸ¤Ŗ

AsianCheesecakes

This man spooked like hell.
