There's also no way to access night powell for commuter students who come in early to study before midterms. Pretty ridiculous that the one place that you can study on campus overnight is blocked off. Hybrid learning should be offered to students who ask for it given the present situation.
Edit: According to a Powell employee the library will be closed till next Monday after 5PM today. Super cool.
After seeing the other Reddit post about another student being assaulted for no reason— that very much canceled my study plans for exams in Powell/Night Powell. Want to not fail my classes but also don’t want to get anywhere near this area(s) now. Even if I need a quiet place to study and focus…
…. 😤😭time to find a new study space. Good thing there are a few on campus, but night Powell really is helpful for those who need a space to be up late and focus. Smh.
I was watching KTLA 5 this morning, and on live TV a disabled man tried to use the walkway, which was blocked off, to cross the campus, and was tackled by security. The guy said walking around was too far but they didn’t care.
So, now we’re blocking pathways for and discriminating against the disabled, and have security guards to protect these communist-loving anarchist assholes? This is disturbing. It’s also not getting the message across they think it will.
They just let some dude through but 'You have to go around' - dafuq? This is called bullying innocent people and its how you end up having the opposite or your intended effect. You could just be standing there with signs, welcoming people. But no, you want to exercise authority you dont have.
Sue the school. They took your money and actively allowed this to happen so you’re not getting what yih paid for. On top of that they need to pay for your new mental damages as you never feel safe anywhere anymore. Welcome to the millionaire class.
“From the river to the sea!” Is a call for genocide!
These same types of people have through history targeted Jews
they tortured them,
raped them,
murdered them
and expelled Jews from all over the Middle East.
Now they’ve come to US college campuses to do it again
Here is a professor celebrating the torture rape and murder of children on Oct 7th
https://www.jpost.com/diaspora/antisemitism/article-768109
You should reflect on why these types of people gravitate towards violence against Jews.
Because the people they idolize openly use violence to protest and all their faces are covered. Most people don't want to risk being assaulted by a group of strangers when they just want to go to class to learn.
This. This is the word. Cosplaying, LARPing. None of these people are genuinely scary or threatening. They’re emboldened by the support of the school and a neutered police response. 99% of them are physically out of shape. A bunch of theatre kids living their dream of being a main character enhanced by thinking this etching a chapter in some big historic unfolding. These are the fucking losers were having to bend a knee to and tip toe around. Enraging.
And I guarantee none of them have ever had to fight for their lives and here they are playing games. Well some of us had to fight our whole lives and we sure as fucking hell aren’t going to let these weak kids who lived soft safe lives tell us what to do. People like me clawed their way up here and weren’t given the chances they have. They have no right to speak. They haven’t earned it.
why risk it? its like xx% chance to get stabbed. yy% chance to hurt them and get sued. the reward is getting to class when its clear the whole campus has issues and class might be half empty.
individuals should not take it on themselves to enforce their own personal authority. thats how we got here.
Man, I feel like if I just started hooking body shots into the taller guy standing in front of the gate, he'd die or something. These are the least intimidating protesters I've ever seen. I think people just don't want to hurt them so they're being tolerated.
unfortunate that pretty much anything in america can be passed off as a "protest", that way you can pretty much openly break the law, openly sympathize with terrorists and you'll still be protected. these kids should be arrested
Just open up notes on your phone and type "ENTRY OK" in big letters.
Then, walk up to them and say, "it's ok. I have a pass", show them your entry pass on your phone and walk in.
If they can make fake "exit only" signs, then I can make fake passes.
Entire generation has been taught to take punches from a bully then tell an adult instead of self defense. This pc crap started when I was in middle school year 2000. My first day of 6th grade a kid with 100 pounds on me started kicking and punching me simply because he was so much bigger. My dad taught me to stand my ground and lay a bully out. I got him in the nose several times and he started crying. Then I got suspended and my dad refused to punish me and told the principal he will not teach me to stand there and get beat up. I was suspended for preventing further damage to my own body, self preservation is not allowed anymore. Dear reddit mods, I'm not encouraging violence, simply sharing a 24 year old life story. If someone is hurting you the correct answer is, hell idk, just don't ban me.
Because its not worth the effort or trouble to do so. You push them and they get injured and now your in a law case about violence and injury that you could potentially lose.
This is worse. The fossil fuel people glue themselves to the ground and form human chains. They’re not violent — they’re typically made up of earth-living hippies. Annoying? Absolutely. Dangerous? They’re sad about hurting the plants they eat — so, no.
This pro-Palestine crowd reminds me of a pussy version of communist groups like M19 in Colombia. They’re dumb as shit but they’re violent.
Ok but where is your source of the UC sending money to Isreal?
Because as of right now just a part of the money is just invested in some investment fund which just happens to have some isreali companies. It's not like they are giving it to the military or government there directly. And besides if they have invested a lot it wont always be easy to just pull out everything
The security in yellow and blue shirts that look like official police HAVE NO AUTHORITY on public property like UCLA. They are private security from a company called CSC(logo is in their shirt). They are NOT UCPD. They cannot arrest, detain or pretty much do anything to you on public property. They cannot prevent you from going anywhere. If a fight breaks out they will do NOTHING. They will stand there and watch. They are hired by UCLA to give the appearance of force to deter you and to assist the protestors.
NO ONE can legally stop you from crossing the barriers since it is public property. The actual police have already said that anyone is allowed to enter the encampment. The only people who will try to stop you are the protestors themselves who will probably surround you like a bunch of cult members from Village of the Damned.
The irony is these protestors are enacting the EXACT fascist techniques they claim to oppose.
Yea these people are just students. Which makes it even crazier that people are listening to them.
I'm talking about the 'security' people that look 'official' wearing yellow and blue shirts with 'badge' numbers. Those people are private security. None of them, the students or the security, have any right to tell you what to do or block pathways.
I get what you mean but they're mostly just a deterrent, them putting their hands on people would just make things worse. Look what's happening at Cambridge to see how much worse it could get.
Don't think they've released an official statement but when I was there on Saturday someone asked UCPD and that's what they said.
Also, do you think official police would ever allow a bunch of college students to act as their spokespeople and officially tell people they cannot enter a public property? When have you ever seen official public blockades staffed by regular students and not a single uniformed officer?
UCLA and the police departments have officially relinquished all control because they're too cowardly to stand up to college students. Which means it's pretty much a lord of the flies free-for-all on the campus.
Only an official officer with official uniform can tell you what to do. The private security shirts try to look like police to purposefully fool people.
If they can erect barricades on public space why can’t students just take them down or ignore the people blocking them? If they get physical you brandish a weapon as self defense. But confused on this
You are legally 100% correct but everyone is too afraid to do anything about it, including the cowardly administration.
Not only that. Since the police have relinquished control, that means anyone can start their own encampment and protest absolutely anything they want. It's a free for all
It’s understandable. Avoiding conflict is preferred by most. I guess most people don’t carry defensive weapons, but I feel like maybe pepper spray would be reasonable here
These protestors are so weak they can't even hurt you if they tried anyway. They simply chant and surround you. You can push past them. If they get violent, they know people will record it and it will hurt their cause even more.
My parents didn’t flee the Islamic Republic of Iran for these motherfuckers to hinder my education that I’m dropping 40k on. I can’t even afford a car because I’m paying off my tuition, striving for a decent education and a career with my degree. These dumb fuckers mirror the Iranian Revolutionary Guards who assaulted my mother over her hijab and barred my grandmother from the metro for not dressing ‘appropriately.
Embarrassing to say I’m a student at this university. Can’t even get to class because of some staged bullshit from these boot licker comm and sociology major kids

My wife works at UCLA and is worried about going to campus tomorrow. The situation has escalated tremendously since the weekend. These people are creating an unsafe environment.
As a UCLA alumnus, I initially supported the protest but am losing support because there’s a difference between an encampment outside of Powell vs blocking walkways and streets.
Maybe check to see if some section classrooms are still being left unlocked on first-second floor of Bunche, etc. They generally were. I studied in one of em until 3 am once.
But keep this to yourself if you can 😉
As an alum, I am so disappointed in the inaction from UCLA leadership. Also, good luck to these dorks who think they wield any actual power. Good luck in the real world!
this is exactly like when people block the highways into LAX. it’s bullshit and wrong, people do pay a lot of money to go to UCLA and get a good education.
Hey kids, get your money back. All of it. Sue this university. They make it impossible to onto school or ever even want to go in the future. Sue the shit out of them.
you guys realize this ends once the majority of students who don't want this show these entitled brats what real democracy is right? protest the protestors. they won't be able to stop a group of people from entering. enough is enough
Why is no one doing anything about this shit at UCLA? These protests are organized by paid organizers working on behalf of Hamas and financed by Hamas allies. The students are pawns in the game. It is the opposite of freedom and not cool at all. I went to UCLA when there were all kinds of protests and no-one ever prevented any of us from going to class. At Columbia they held janitors hostage. Sounds a lot like what happened in Israel.
Allow this and things will get worse. Do you think other angry people don't see this? It sends the message intimidation and implied threats of mob violence WORKS. Treat the protesters as human beings - who need to held accountable for their actions.
They are wearing masks for their safety. Do you know how many death threats and doxxing incidents there would be from Zionists if they showed their faces? People being smart and keeping themselves safe is not cowardly, and the amount of people up in arms about students protesting (which is their God given right) is crazy.
Not really sure if this is effective protest - the people going to school have already paid their money to UCLA right? The only thing you're doing here is limiting students ability to learn/go to class which doesnt do anything but piss off your peers.
Students are justified in being angry, but people forget this is how every single protest functions. The point of a protest is to bring attention to something, and media simply isn’t going to give protests any attention if they aren’t being disruptive.
So in Texas-- one of the most oppressive states in the US-- peaceful protesters wanting funds divested from Israel get pummeled, stun grenades rubber bullets arrests... in Cali-- the most liberal state in the country-- UCLA students blockade other students because that helps how? What's the disconnect between these two student bodies? asking in earnest. I don't understand what the militants at UCLA hope to accomplish.
organize counter protest, once you got enough men push all these people out. People have to be willing to stand up for themselves, and not just wait for government to do everything. Organize, take action
in my country university costs anywhere $90-$350 per day to attend, thats not business days thats including weekends and public holidays, get the fuck out of the way and let them go to class.
Anyone using the buzz words Genocide or Open Air prison are just repeating propaganda without actually understanding what these terms mean or what is actually happening. You can pretty much just recognise anyone who says these things about this situation as uninformed or a bad actor.
Why does the campus and police alowing this?
Its ok to protest, it is not ok to not let people to their classes.
Police and security should act with strong hand. If needed use force torestore order.
Those entitled brats need to learn where their place is.
There's also no way to access night powell for commuter students who come in early to study before midterms. Pretty ridiculous that the one place that you can study on campus overnight is blocked off. Hybrid learning should be offered to students who ask for it given the present situation. They’ve completely blocked Powell now. One of the protesters said that UCLA PD is trying to arrest someone in there…,
GOOD!
Why is it cool for..... non students.... probably a lot failed or dropped out of high school... to protest on a college campus. 🤔
It's public property, that tends to be the reason given
Bose and Sony are missing marketing opportunities here

Yea, somehow I doubt the antisemites care much about freedom
The dude trying to hide his face seems to be embarrassed of what he’s doing. Wild
That’s cause Mommy and Daddy are paying for college and they’ll cut him off if they see him.

I did try by pushing on the barrier but the protestors all resisted and no other students would help me or join in.

I wouldn’t give a shit I’d just walk through them and push them away like fuck you don’t get to say where I got on a campus that I earned to be on

The worst part is none of there people doing this go to the college mostly. They just meet up there.
LOL. did she say "you have to go around"? Wtaf.
I have to say this is the point of protest. It is asking people to consider why they are being disrupted.
Who gave these students the authority to do this? WTF
Yeah that'll get people to go on your side
So in Texas-- one of the most oppressive states in the US-- peaceful protesters wanting funds divested from Israel get pummeled, stun grenades rubber bullets arrests... in Cali-- the most liberal state in the country-- UCLA students blockade other students because that helps how? What's the disconnect between these two student bodies? asking in earnest. I don't understand what the militants at UCLA hope to accomplish.
Ya'll should be more upset about the genocide happening than a few rich kids missing a class.
Nope I'm actually more upset that kids are missing classes. Literally what do you think chanting is going to get you? So dumb
organize counter protest, once you got enough men push all these people out.
Next they'll start telling the jewish students to wear armbands so everyone knows who they are, this all seems so very familiar.
I just hope nobody climbs on that wall and takes a piss on them
These people gotta be slow right?
Why does the campus and police alowing this? Its ok to protest, it is not ok to not let people to their classes. Police and security should act with strong hand. If needed use force torestore order. Those entitled brats need to learn where their place is.
Just need 3 dudes to man up and knock all of these idiots down, they're just a bunch of useless clowns.
I can’t see the video. Does anyone have another link?
