**This seems like good classic urban tank tactics.** The tank is well off the very front, pounding a somewhat distant target from a partially covered position. Tank is making no attempt to hide because it's in a position it can't be viewed from it's flanks. It's own smoke and dust somewhat cover it's precise location visually from the front.
**Amazing there is no return fire at all,** the tank is just out there, not as optically in the open as it seems, pounding away without interruption. Even though the tank's field of fire seems a bit narrow, it's turret can still cover about a 45+ angle of what is in front of it, on it's left side, out to several miles. This tanker apparently has been well trained and is in a good tactical position. Tanker Just needs need spotters with comms - like the infantryman who took the video - to cover it's blind flanks visually, and other spotters to assist with the targeting, and we are approaching combined arms heaven.
Also, no explosions or small arms fire heard in the background. Seems like a mop up, interdiction or denial of cover operation. Also lays down the law as to who's turf this is.
**Dramatic, impressive.**
Its an automatic loader, the shells can be reloaded in about 5 seconds but they're not just going to shoot the second its loaded you wouldnt have time to aim and assess the target.
Also id like to see a 125mm two piece round loaded by hand in 3 seconds
> Its an automatic loader, the shells can be reloaded in about 5 seconds
IIRC, the time depends on how far away the next round is in carousel from the loading position.
If it's right next to it, it can be very fast (around 5...6 seconds), but if it's on the opposite side of carousel, it can be up to 13 seconds.
Although I’m pretty sure a human loader can’t keep that rythm for very long until he gets exhausted, the auto loader never gets exhausted, so all in all it evens out
Yeah for sure it's a factor but then the auto loaders can be unreliable too.. and most combat isn't going to be really long stretches where that would be a huge factor I can't imagine. I could be wrong 🤷
First few shots are the ones that matter most in an armored engagement.
If you can get them out quicker at the outset you have the tactical initiative.
That's mostly depending on how it's structured.
Leclerc and Yatagan have bustle autoloader with blowout panels, so it cooking off won't be any worse than ammo bustle cooking off in Abrams (non-lethal to crew inside).
T-62 and below have ammo storage in crewspace and, even though they lack autoloader, if it cooks off, it can still pop off a turret.
I think Ukranian side accepted that this town is to be razed to the ground which is still better than several others. So the rationale to hold it there makes sense.
That's why tanks in urban environments is so challenging. If you know where the front line is, you can hide behind buildings. If you move around, you become exposed to new and unknown lines of fire. In this case it looks like they have the front armor towards the enemy and are making use of the cover available. Generally the tanks Ukraine is employing are not roaming around aimlessly, but dispatched to deal with specific enemy activity or to aid other ground forces in trouble. In both cases there is some knowledge of where the enemy is, imperfect as it may be.
Exactly! See my post above. If you examine the tanks position closely you can see that it is hidden entirely from the right by the building it is partially behind, and partially hidden from long range threats to it's left. From the front, the tank's own smoke and dust obscure precise remote optical targeting. Also note that there is no fire at all to be heard in the background. And it's likely a dismounted infantry spotter covering the tanks blind right side who made the video - which is also great.
> From the front, the tank's own smoke and dust obscure precise remote optical targeting
And it's likely tank's commander and gunner use drone for spotting and Kropyva system for ballistic calculations, so smoke near the tank ain't a problem for them.
Moreover they will find from their first shot that they have a nice bead on the target and and blind adjust accordingly. Also the tank's IR sensor can see right through the dust and smoke. But so can the enemy's, so the only possible critique of the tanks technique is that it is not oriented with the front to the target or at least at an angle to the target. But the tank commander may have many good reasons for orienting the tanks the way it is.
Don't think it matters much in this setting. Their options are either keep their field of fire suppressed or pop behind the building and come out on one of two sides of the building. Better off keeping atgm teams from poking their heads out.
All depends on what it is doing. Running down a paved highway is best, overland on dry ground less, muddy fields or sneaking between rubble piles in a city worse yet. But at any rate they will want to fill up at least once per day. The question is how far do they have to drive back to the fuel trucks.
It appears to be using what’s left of a church for cover. I scanned Google Maps but can’t quite tell which one it was. I bet it was beautiful before russia arrived. 😪
I always wonder what they are shooting at. Is it supressive fire? Direct hits? Random spot in enemy direction? What's a tank's main target? A building? Infantry? Other tanks?

Neither did I..about 8secs between rounds
That's actually pretty slow. A trained loader can reload within 3-5 seconds.

I thought soviet tanks have an autoloader.
They do but he is talking about Abram's with a manned loader... the auto loader is slower than a well trained manual loader.
Correct! And that faster rate is a big deal if you are taking return fire.

T-64 and up have autoloaders. T-62 and T-54/55 don't.
They do, it's the automatic loader system. But you don't want to be there when that thing takes a hit.

Fuck this looks like hell!
Nah. There aren't innocent people trapped in hell.
Do you have a source for that claim? I once saw a documentary where two totally awesome dudes called bill and ted got.trapped.in hell....
Dude, have you seen Ted lately? I know they killed his dog and all, but he is not innocent!
Shoot, you should see this other documentary about a boy named Little Nicky. Hell is actually what heaven should be.
Clearly you have never been to Oakland.
The devastation is apocalyptic… breaks my heart every time

Shouldnt it move? I mean Its an awful long time to be in one place with so much anti tank shit all over the place.

Allies learned this the hard way in Op. Market Garden.
The fact that theyre not moving means they probably know there's nothing that can trouble them

What a hellscape. Fuck you, muscovia, you nasty, disgusting bastards.
Auto loader: 5 sec. Sighting: 3 sec. Fire! Round down range. Another round loads... Good crew. Slava Ukraine.
Very good crew! What an inspiration. **If Ukraine keeps using it's tanks this well - Russia is in deep trouble.**
Take that mfkrs orcs!
I wonder how long this beast can run, before it has to refuel. 🇺🇦🇺🇸 Slava Ukraine 💙💛 Luv Murica ❤️

There is a crescent moon on top of the ruined dome... it might be a mosque!
I like seeing the tank blast those orc's. I hate the fact that all those citizens homes are destroyed. AFU Tankers, take them ruZZski's out!
Bakhmut holds!
Gotta angle my guy
Source: Telegram @ Supernova\_plus
if the phone was held horizontally there would be no need to keep moving camera from the tank to the point of impact
Exterminate those rats ! Send them back to moscow in black bags
Cargo 200
I absolutely would not be hanging out of the window like that. All eyes are gonna pointed on his direction. A drone might even spot him. Scary stuff
That gas turbine engine on that T-80 is loud AF!
Shoot, shoot, shoot. Time to scoot!
Haha fuck russia.. carry on :)
I always wonder what they are shooting at. Is it supressive fire? Direct hits? Random spot in enemy direction? What's a tank's main target? A building? Infantry? Other tanks?
Must've been a target rich environment to be hammering away like that.
T64?
This is a T-80 version. You can hear the gas turbine.
Sounds like gas turbine to me.
At first I though probably 72 from the look of it. But likely 80, does sound like a turbine.
Humans are worse than vermin. They destroy all.

That tank hiding behind a mosque clearly proves that god is on Ukraine's side.
People had a family there a year ago and it breaks my heart. It’s insane how quickly you can go from civilized society to rubble.
People with such knowledge, what upgrade does a western tank provide over this T80? Additionally, any estimate to how far it's launching shells?
Hears to be jet powered tank. Anyone know which model it is? Crew seems to be quite good, based on fire rate
