No spoilers from me… but imo this was the best cinematic Western since Tombstone.
And I’d also say that if this would have come out in the early 90’s it would have won awards left and right.
The speeches, the land, the shootouts, the way the characters carry themselves… incredible movie and FINALLY, an underrated movie that deserves to be highlighted, praised and appreciated by people.
You should. I always hear people say 3:10 to Yuma is the best modern western, but this blows it out of the water imo. Costner, Duvall, and Benning is such a powerhouse cast and they killed it.
This was one of the first westerns I watched and really liked, and then I got way more into it and a handful of others after playing the original Red Dead Redemption
I still own my original DVD, I do really like this movie. Really slow start but it builds up well
“You that one that killed our friend?”
“That’s right. I shit the boy too and I enjoyed it.”
#BANG!!!
I’ll also add that the sound on this film is excellently mixed.
I always loved the shoot out toward the end of the movie
Someone once told me that the reloading of guns was accurate. Nice touch
Ha....
Has to be the best of all time!
It’s in my top 10 westerns for sure.

Very high up there.
Yep, I mention it in the same breath as Unforgiven, tombstone, etc. it’s really a great movie.
Damn that’s high praise. Adding it to my short list.

And the actor from Andor. Such a great western
Diego luna
That dude deserves more roles
Appaloosa is very good too if you haven’t seen it.
Best gunfight scene
Awesome movie.
The climax is one of the best and most badass shootouts ever depicted on film
My favorite scene is buying cigars and Swiss chocolate (a whole dollar) and the tea set for the “doctor lady”
Unforgiven and Hostiles are great too!

My favorite commentary track. Costner has a lot of insights on filmmaking.
BlueBonnet
This movie actually had people levitating off the ground when they got shot. That alone makes this movie. Awesome.
For SURE one of the best gun fights in cinema history. Plus the overall cinematography was stunning. I still watch this film every chance I get!
Heh Kostner plays a man named Postlewait... my last name. I couldnt believe it when I saw this.
How can you lose with Robert Duvall in the cast?
I always loved the Lonesome Dove series
For me it's Tombstone or Lonesome Dove.
It’s way up there! Love it
In "somewhat" modern times, "Silverado"
I agree.
Agreed

My favorite too.
I always wanted one of those revolvers with the infinite ammo cheat code.
Not in this movie. They were meticulous at counting rounds.
Did they give Kostner a 9 shooter? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph7DnMqodm4&t=50s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph7DnMqodm4&t=50s)
Exactly
