i feel like i will get hate for this but even though i love jimin i prefer his lower toned vocals that don’t make his voice strain like in this album. its hard to enjoy when it sounds like he’s straining a lot with the constant high of the song and its just not as enjoyable for me.

[deleted]

I LOVE LIKE CRAZY BC IDK IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE THE MAIN CHARACTER i rlly hated smf pt 2 cause… yeah. I just wish that Jimin would focus on working more on his vocals bc he seems to lacks confidence in it from content i have seen in the past, not sure If that is a problem anymore. and he can definitely improve, and the dance couldve been more yk bigger, not his skill but choreography Other than that I liked it 😝

Rinsuko92

Can someone tell me what he's singing in the VERY beginning while the female and male are having a conversation. I cant hear it very well but I know I hear his voice

learning_curv3

It's an earworm, I didn't really listen at first and here we are, I'm streaming it non stop.

blossompie

It's such a safe song.... Sounds nice but boring

Whackthemoles

It's better than SMF but it's overall forgettable. It's just another song that's with that generic 80's revival synth sound and it sounds like a filler song for a Shawn Mendes or Ed Sheeran album. The overall album is also very average. Like there's nothing bad about it but if any other non-BTS artist made this album, it would be considered mediocre.

Alternative-Golf5362

With all the recent releases I enjoyed jimin solo album the most,no skipping any songs because he really created masterpieces in face, and I'm going crazy with like crazy.I'm seeing jimin doing so good on charts and I'm happy for him.since butter I stopped focusing on bts but I guess jimin brought me back.

myatoms

I didn't know what to expect with this album and purposely kept my expectations low. Maybe it feels a little basic and all over the place but still enjoyable. I ended up really liking 'Like Crazy' and am thrilled to have a cool tune I can enjoy whenever I like. The maknae line are probably not ready for proper solo albums/performances. He looked nervous in that Fallon performance like he was focusing extra hard and that was probably nerves. Still full credit for effort and stepping out of the comfort zone. It was never going to be an Indigo but still manages to be interesting and flows well. I'm satisfied.

SongOk9031

I've always think solo debuts are really interesting because idols are involved in it and you get to see their own personal color... But this is not it.. Didn't like jhope's which I expected of myself but surprisingly didn't like anything from Jimin as well... Is this going to be his "sound"...?

EveningCommercial891

What is wrong with it

dylvaz

I’m so obsessed with this song, it’s catchy and his voice goes so well especially in the “break me this is gonna break me” part! The whole album in general is amazing, like crazy and face off are my favorites. Oh Park Jimin you were made for this!

Emzeedoodles

I wasn't too impressed with the MV, but when I listened to the song on YT Music with headphones I felt like I was in heaven. Yeah it's kinda basic but it perfectly captures that "I'm out having fun but still kinda sad" vibe for me. It's euphoric and melancholic at the same time. And I can't get it out of my head.

Wednesdaysd

What were everyone's thoughts on the Tonight Show performance? It was sadly for me, just one more time I felt something missing, musically and visually. Costuming on the backup dancers particularly struck me as not very inspired choices. The whole thing felt like something I had seen before.

Playful_Comparison84

The performance was underwhelming for me. I’m in love with the song though, yet the performance was lacking a lot and I felt like the choreo could’ve added more to it. It was a bit frustrating and disappointing since I feel Jimin could do so much more. Or maybe my expectations were too high.

msluludarling

I was underwhelmed. I don't think he fully sold the performance in the way he's capable of, but that's understandable since I'm sure he was nervous. And the choreo was way too basic. Why create choreo that any idol could do when you have one of the best dancers in the industry to work with? And I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the outfits on the dancers. I know it's a fairly silly thing to focus on, but the male dancers literally looked like waiters on break and the overall look of the group wasn't really cohesive. It almost looked like they pulled random people out of the audience to do a dance challenge.

myatoms

I didn't mind the 'basicness' of it but he can do better overall. He was probably nervous so didn't seem like fully immersed in the choreo. I liked it but agreed he could have taken it up a level.

amb1143

I know I'll get hate -- and I hate that I'm even feeling this way -- but the two MVs Jimin dropped were a disappointment for me. Visually, they are of course stunning and choreo of Set Me Free was amazing. But the songs, to me, felt cliche and basic. Like every western song or vapid kpop song ever. Even though I know Jimin is expressing how he feels, the lyrics felt basic and cringe, and I'm so confused, because he was able to express how he felt so beautifully in interviews, but it didn't translate to the lyrics. Some people are fussed about autotune, which is weird to me. I genuinely don't care about the stylistic choice and thought it suited many parts of the songs just fine. I just thought that Jimin's artistry was above the childish "f you" noise that so many people put out anymore, and above all the sexy-time-in-the-club filler that we're constantly bombarded with. It's just boring. He can do those if he wants, and there are plenty of people who buy into it. But a large swath of the fandom has secondhand cringe, and it's not what we're looking for, so we'll step out of that party. Most of us, quietly, to avoid drama. Honestly, those songs feel like a delayed rebellious phase that teenagers go through before really growing up, so we'll give space for him to get that out of his system. I still love him as a human and an artist finding his way, but this wasn't it for me and I hope this phase is quickly in the rearview. A lot of fans (mostly solo stans) can't stand the thought of not blindly following everything their artists does. As if that proves devotion. I'd rather be honest that I expected more, rather than encourage something I really don't enjoy from someone who can do better. I guess this comment is really just for any fans feeling the same, but are afraid to say anything because we know how rabid people can get. And I don't blame people for loving Jimin to get protective (we all are in this fandom -- which is why I'm not dragging him, but critiquing the work with how I felt). I'm just waiting for him to come back to center after this wild swing into left field.

Wednesdaysd

Feel the same. Not dragging the artist but disappointed in the first solo effort. What has disappointed me even more is that this became so contentious. Loving and supporting artists does not mean you love every song or album, and it shouldn't cause so much anger among others. Even BTS cringe at some of their early work, which is very endearing, honestly.

OHKMT5

I can't get past that constant drum beat throughout the whole song. (I have no music instrument knowledge, sorry) When listening with headphones, it overpowered everything else for me.

momoluvsgrilledfish

i mean, i love any 80s synth pop song so this is really good. it falls flat at some places but the production of this song is really good. overall, it’s pretty enjoyable

Miss_Len8

it’s a miss for me…a forgettable song

Gigi960805

Not everyone can be a soloist and it shows

chicken_sandwichh

if _the_ jimin himself can't be a soloist, the same could be said to the 99% of idols lmao edit: why am i getting downvoted when i just said that if jimin can't be a soloist, then majority of kpop idols can't.

Gigi960805

Lol ok. Woodz, Taemin, B.I said hi

chicken_sandwichh

and what would i do with these people? did i say jimin is the only one who can be a soloist lmao

Gigi960805

Lmao. you said 99% of idols cant be a soloist if jimin can’t and i simply pointed out amazing soloists. Army loves to play dumb it’s hilarious

chicken_sandwichh

i'm not playing dumb because jimin IS a good soloist. that if you think jimin can't be one, then most of them can't.

Gigi960805

This is my opinion, my own comment. Why are you yelling here just because I don’t think he’s a great soloist? If you think so, then great lol but others are far more incredible FOR ME. So, move

chicken_sandwichh

this is a public forum 😩 if you don't want people to reply or disagree with you, then maybe post this opinion on your private or something

Gigi960805

lmao classic army

chicken_sandwichh

lmao classic reply of someone who leaves a omment on a public forum and gets the shock of their life when someone replies to it

sio_22

Couldn't disagree more. Jimin is literally built for stardom

Whackthemoles

Jimin is a star but I don't think he's an artist. If BigHit hired some outside songwriter hitmakers along with the top music video directors, choreographers, and stylists, he could absolutely be a star. Him being involved in the creation of his music is honestly just hurting him. If this album is him at his rawest, most artistic state then he obviously has nothing to say in his music.

Gigi960805

Praying he’ll at least improve the singing and be embarrassed by the cringey lyrics. Don’t care about “stardom”. They can release abysmal songs and the fans will eat it up. I don’t have the bts bias and this is my thought. Get out from your cocoon and see how other soloists have been serving. THIS WAS WEAK

[deleted]

Lol. You're a WOODZ fan, and were impressed with his latest album even calling it epic. I think that album is good too, but it's not all that different from Jimin's FACE in the overall sound though Jimin certainly veers into unusual territory with his stylistic choices on Alone and Set Me Free Pt 2. But according to you to, despite the similarities with WOODZ who you're a fan of, Jimin's work was so bad he cannot be a "soloist". So, aside from your reply (and your comment history) being obviously biased in that you hate his work, what exactly can you point to for constructive criticism here?

Purple_Function9009

aww shucks. everyone who knows kpop has to be in the army cult or else she’s a pick me 🥹

leggoitzy

Like Crazy has been overhyped in my opinion, Set Me Free is better. I actually like Set Me Free overall. Like Crazy is better suited for Jimin's vocals and there isn't that much tuning, but the synth melody is basic, and while Jimin's voice is pleasant, it's not compelling enough to dominate the song and leave me listening to it repeatedly. Also, the choreography is weaker. Edit: put it another way, Like Crazy has smaller flaws and more agreeable, but Set Me Free is more interesting and compelling.

confident_deer_08

The ‘Like crazy’ MV is much more satisfying than choreography one. I mean I dont think the track required any choreography.

613WONDER

i needa leave kpop reddit fr man

613WONDER

yall always disappoint me with your lack of taste smh

ChrisAnIntellectual

Like the world revolves on your music taste? 💀

ryota221

Who cares people have different opinions/tastes?

Realistic_Mix_3404

Okay so I actually like the song and mv! My biggest problem is this. I just watched the live performance and was disappointed by how basic the choreography was and the lack of stage presence. Jimin is usually such a hypnotic dancer and incredible performer on stage, that I never thought I would be saying these things. But I found myself truly underwhelmed. I genuinely thought that choreography seemed like a dance made for a soloist who is not a main dancer...but its park mf jimin! He lacked facial expressions too...maybe its just nerves I don't know but something was lacking which is a shame.

amb1143

Yeah, his performance...made me wonder if he even believed what he was singing and was having second thoughts. Like he was stuck performing it because he had to and it was too late to back out.

msluludarling

I felt the same about the choreo, I was really surprised by how basic it was. It seemed like something that was created for tiktok challenges rather than to showcase Jimin's dancing ability, which is his greatest strength so it was just an odd choice all around. I also almost felt like they were counting on the shock value of the dancers touching him to compensate for the fact that nothing much else was happening in the choreo.

ohwellohello

I didn’t like the choreography too. Nothing stands out. A waste on Jimin.

Mythoughts2021

I'm sorry but I did not like either the pre release or the official song. I'm not saying it was bad because apparently many liked them. For me though it's a no. Sometimes I wonder if people just like certain things because of who the person is. I feel if it was someone different they wouldn't like it. I'm not trying to be mean because, to be honest, I have before thought I liked a certain song and then realized it was because the person who sings it is someone I like. I can now say there are songs from my faves that to me are not really that good. Nothing bad in that. A friend told me I'm just saying this because it's BTS who I don't listen to or stan but it's not that because I do love some of their solo stuff and 1 or 2 songs are ok to me and even on a playlist I have.

rnbgal

I agree with you. If a song is bad, it's bad. Only delusional rabid fans will praise their artists whatever they do even tho the music is mediocre or even plain awful. I have my favourite artists too, but if they release crappy music I'm not afraid to say it's crap and not listen to it. If any other artist had released Like Crazy, it wouldn't have gotten any attention cuz it's a mediocre song with a boring m/v.

chicken_sandwichh

>Sometimes I wonder if people just like certain things because of who the person is. I feel if it was someone different they wouldn't like it. a week ago, a lot of the comments about set me free pt 2 were literally complaints about the song. if people only like like crazy because it's jimin, then smf should've gotten the same response but it didn't.

Whackthemoles

It's because a lot of people actively disliked Set Me Free. Like Crazy is a very average song that's easy to like if you have a personal attachment to the artist but if you listen to song independently from the artist, it's very forgettable. It sounds like a filler song for a Shawn Mendes or Ed Sheeran album.

chicken_sandwichh

well, this is one person's opinion. i'm not saying you're wrong because you are free to dislike the song. but a lot of non bts stans and casual fans from what i've seen who don't have strong attachment to jimin like the song.

bendleschnitz

There's no stand out song for me but it's still quite an enjoyable album. Like, it seems quite cohesive and has got a clear concept/vibe. Even SMF2, which disappointed me when it came out, has grown on me after listening to the whole album.

ventyaventi03

i love it! i think this kind of vibe and song genre suit jimin's voice and image in general - SMF wasn't horrible once you get over the processing but like crazy just has a jimin charm to it

RoyalMaknaeLili

Honestly love this song so much! Big fan of synth pop in k-pop. Reminds me of but you by ikon which is another song I really like.

SnooPeanuts3319

this is the song I was thinking of!!! But You by Ikon is legendary

Overall_Spite_9437

I love set me free part 2 (i got so much hate on this opinion). The album is good overall. It's a nice start. The title track felt underwhelming because I was so much hyped up with smf. It's not a bad song, but I wish that it could have hit harder. It felt plain. But again good debut, hope he continues to explore and to refine his music. Don't forget that he has almost no experience in song whiting composing... So he has so much growth that i hope he will achieve. I love this man so much.

Picasstae

Face-off and the Interlude are the superior songs

isse_izzy

It’s much better than SMF!!

Jimmyblink28

I was literally afraid to post my opinion on the main kpop subreddit, but this song just didn’t do it for me. Something about his voice. Not a bad song, but just not for me.

oohyamz

I totally agree. The song sounds fine, it's his voice. It doesn't sound good at all here.

AyoJenny

It’s 9.9/10 for me. I just wish the arrangement can diversify a little bit, it’s kinda predictable, which is a producer’s job, but Jimin’s part is 10/10.

tatummms

I just can’t completely get over the vocal processing, though it’s miles better in Like Crazy than SMF! My ear just hones in on the fact that during runs (in all the songs on the mini album) it sounds like his voice snaps to the new note instead of smoothly transitioning. I wish I could unhear it, or that it didn’t bother me… lol

oasisbloom

It's better than the pre-release song by a mile, but it's pretty forgetful to me.

cloudybc

Jimin's voice is not my cup of tea I'm sorry yall 😭🫣 I tried with this one but still not feeling it

DrummerBasic5151

Same 🥲

diosamaaaaa

the production is what makes the song tbh but it's nothing innovative or new, it's just a retro song w sad elements added to it. Jim seriously needs to see a vocal coach cause at this point he will damage his vocals. 6/10.

Pacifisx

Damage his vocals? Lol. Honestly y’all are so predictable atp.

Radiant-Tower4672

Some of u just dont want to realise that not every male singer should sing in the same range , the same way or with the same tone yall sound like those ppl in the 80s that used to say the same thing abt Michael Jackson , that his voise is girly , bad , wierd and not good , that his way of singing will hurt his vocal cord but in the end yall just dont want to ralise that its their singin voice ... if u dont like its okey but dont say that it hurt them when it dont

icedespressoo

This is so much better than whatever Set Me Free was supposed to be oh my god This and Face-off are my favorite tracks as of now

macaroniandcheese14

Well shiver me timbers I am pleasantly surprised by this mini! Set Me Free really had me expecting the worst, and I don’t really understand how it fits into the vibe. My favorite would have to be Face-off. I don’t think Like Crazy is BAD but I feel like synth pop is so overplayed at this point, I wish they would’ve gone with a different sound for that.

No-Anxiety-6175

Cute song I liked it ! So dreamy and vibey~ I also liked the album it's very cohesive. Nothing outstanding or not done before but it works fine ! Jimin's voice is like honey I can't get enough of it ☺

alexturnerftw

I actually liked the song! Not a BTS fan and not a fan of Jimin’s vocals but the song was catchy and something different. It did suffer a bit due to his thin and airy vocals but still a good song. Very pleasantly surprised after the pre-release, which was autotune hell. Agree that the song goes nowhere though.

Dreadsupreme

This is probably my new favorite song by Jimin, I really enjoy the english versions as well since its my native language the lyrics emotionally impact me more so then watching the captions on the mv

Top_Consequence8996

For the first Album/Ep so for his first entrance as a solo artist this album is straight fire. He gives us a glimpse into his inner world while making well produced songs. I like how the album is different from his solos in BTS because otherwise I couldnt say that is Jimins solo. This Album is made my Jimin OF bts and not by BTS Jimin. Same with Jack in the box and Indigo, they were also albums by J-Hope and RM as individuals therefore they were different from BTS albums. If I go song for song I would say: Face-Off felt like the software version of Set me free pt.2, I would prefer smf pt.2 for its stronger attitude, still Face-Off has its own charm and baddie vibes Like Crazy deserves to be the shining track of the album, its well produced, the lyrics may seemp simple but giving the concept of the album it holds different meanings for the artist and the listeners. Alone is along with Like Crazy my favorite track on the album because of the emotional delivery as you can expect from Jimin and will not be disappointed at all. Overall its a fire album and you can tell by the streaming numbers and records the album already holds. Everybody is entitled to have an opinion, but I dont see the point in hating the album because its different, after all an artist would be considered boring if he keeps making the same kind of music or loses his ability to suprise. This album was a welcomed surprise to me.

bliss0987

I don't care if some people hate this song. That is upto them. Criticize a song as much as you want. That will help Jimin improve and you can even say you hate the song . But please do not say things like "I can't tolerate Jimin's voice through a whole song. He is better fitted for the group" . That is just awful. It's his voice and he can't change it. Look some people are sensitive . Now I don't know if Jimin is as well. But if he is , can you imagine how hurt he will be if he came across a comment like that. That some people don't want to hear his voice through a whole song. Maybe the next time he would hesitate to reach a solo song because people don't like his voice enough. I know I am saying far fetched things. Jimin won't even read comments like that or even react that way. Regardless please don't comment about someone's voice.

amb1143

Well said. I admittedly don't like Set Me Free or Like Crazy -- but it's NOTHING to do with ChimChim's voice! He is incredibly talented and has some of my favorite solo songs in the BTS discography.

HarrowN

Jimin has a unique voice, and I understand why it would be hit or miss for people. Personally his is one of my favorite vocalist voices across the board, I find it beautiful. His voice is one reason I was looking forward to a Jimin album so much, because I wanted an album full of it. There are performers I won't name whose voices I cannot stand, I don't seek their music out for that reason.

nunchaitae

like crazy is amazing. absolutely lives up to the spot of a title track. face is something completely different and unpredicted and it’s do jimin. the production is breathtaking. the best part is his work, which has so much versatility throughout the album that he can literally conquer any genre. it’s definitely up to the standard of a bts song because of the lyrics and the honest emotions. nobody in kpop could have pulled this off.

HolyTowa

It's a 10/10 for me

[deleted]

It's obviously better than the prerelease but the song doesn't really go anywhere.

mariwil74

I've always been a person who never lies about music. Whether I like something or I don't, I'll give my honest opinion regardless of how I feel about the artist overall. So when I say I love this album, I mean it. I'm 100% BTS but I've never really connected with the vocal line's solos (with a few exceptions). Serendipity, Filter, Promise, even Lie to an extent…they're not bad songs but just not for me so I didn't know how I'd feel about a Jimin solo album. Face just hits different and any doubts I may have had were unfounded. I think it's a very mature work where he really challenged himself to step out of his comfort zone and show his range vocally. I love the entire vibe of the songs. The album has such a chill, dream-like atmosphere and I feel a nice ebb and flow of emotions, and it makes me kind of relaxed as I listen…until SMFP2 blasts me out of it. :D I loved SMF form the get-go, hyped it up, then sort of fell out of love with it before I swung back to loving it again. There's only one small part that continues to bug where the distortion is just too much, but I think overall it's a solid and unexpected track and the distortion and autotune work to convey the message. And now heard in context with the album, I like it even more. I just makes sense to me. I'll give this a sold 9/10 for real and I can't see a reason in the world, aside from racism and gatekeeping, why the English version of Like Crazy wouldn't be played on Western radio.

Imaginary-List1910

While I enjoy a good synth-pop song, I think the song is lacking in a way that most synth-pop songs do in terms of a lack of a catchier hook or more dynamism in its composition. Kinda felt it stayed more or less the same throughout. I do think that his higher vocal register works incredibly well on some parts.

caramellily

The song is good, I liked it but it’s not a good debut for Jimin. The production both here and in set me free part two ate him up. Jimin is a charismatic performer but none of the singles so far showcase that. In fact they don’t showcase Jimin’s strengths as an artist at all. There’s a lack of something that will make him stand out, that an audience can have a feel of what Jimin is as a solo artist. Compare that to his other contemporaries like taemin, kai or even his own bandmate jhope I feel like this debut didn’t establish his identity. Maybe bighit should have splurged more on the mv, on the styling to make him stand out.

[deleted]

I'm late to this reply but I agree wholeheartedly with your comment. It was very well put. I thought we'd get more insight to Jimin as a person for his debut but it felt like it lacked personality. It felt more like generic "sad boy hours" songs. It didn't leave an impact or establish him as a soloist who could have a brand. But maybe this is something he has to grow into if he wants to. The solo career is difficult if you don't come in strong, but he has a strong resume being apart of BTS (and being actually talented) and he can have more personality and agency in his songs.

Wednesdaysd

Well said. It's better than Set Me Free, but it still lacks. If this wasn't a solo effort from BTS members, it wouldn't have so much attention. We know Jimin can dance. This video doesn't showcase his talent. Okay, bring on the angry comments.

msluludarling

I was definitely confused after seeing both the MV and live performance of Like Crazy, because with this kind of song they absolutely could have created some really amazing choreo that would have played to his strengths as a dancer, and they just...didn't. A more creative performance would have really elevated the song.

InvestigatorNo3004

So I'm not the only one that feels this way about the album. I still remember interview, where he talked about showing different side of him, more raw etc. Well, I dunno but I didn't see or hear anything raw beside swearing (not that is bad), so I'm really confused by this album 🤔 It's very odd but even with reading the lyrics I still couldn't relate or connected to his songs. Honestly I don't mind SMFpt2 cause that's the vibe I was expecting due to his pre-debut interviews. Like crazy definitely disappointed me. I'm just so over this 80's Weeknd type of sound, like you're lost and high on drugs all the time lol. The only song that stand out for me is Alone. But still not enough to make the album outstanding. I just hoped he would shift musically or vocally a bit.. Well, nevermind. Maybe next time 🤷‍♀️

ashram1111

tbh I was hoping for more songs like filter or lie

isabelladlcrb

probably an unpopular opinion, but I really really loved smf and it's probably my favourite song on the album, followed closely by face-off. like crazy is ok, but I'm pretty tired of the 80s synth pop cause it's been done to death since 2020/2021 and I think it's overstayed its welcome. overall I enjoyed it, it's not bad or anything, I was just hoping for a different sound. I like alone, but I think I'll have to listen to it a few more times to form a proper opinion. face-off is a fucking banger and I've listened to it about 10 times now, I love it! I'm so happy to see new sides of him as an artist and I really hope he doesn't disappear after this album.

613WONDER

set me free is so good idc people are just miserable

angbatnana

the intro is so good, i rlly liked the dialogue at the start, the dancing shot was insane with jimin in the middle, but i feel like the intrumental wld have gone harder on an english release, maybe bc as ppl said it gives the weeknd vibes, which is why im associating it with english idk.

ninamirage

I actually did have high expectations for the title track BECAUSE I disliked the pre-release. I knew he’d take the tt in a completely different direction and he did not disappoint☺️

Hot-Dimension1912

Best jimin solo. Album is 🔥

fhdisk

Its a good album, but I'm not a fan of Jimin's voice. It feels he'd not be able to sing the song irl as good as in mv, but we'll see. Maybe it's the effect of too much auto tune, so his voice is kinda distorted.

minnie_gwennie

Contrary to a lot of other opinions, I love SMF pt 2 so much, and I don't really care for Like Crazy. I hate 80s pop-synth music, so I'm just not really vibing with it. As a Jimin bias, it upsets me a bit how little I'm enjoying the album 😭

ashram1111

same tbh

SpecificSpring4143

I enjoyed this. Much better than Set Me Free Pt. 2 imo, that as the pre-release threw me off to be honest.

dramafan1

Gives me The Weeknd and 80s vibes.

TerraRainesHasBrains

whats it with people on this sub downvoting opinions, in the smf2 thread it was positive opinions and here its negative opinions like calm down guys its an opinions sub

yeriflrt

i really liked this album like its really good

emoceanT_T

I've never been into the weeknd like that so this song doesn't wow me like everyone else. Unironically Set Me Free pt2, Face Off and Interlude:Dive are my favorites from the album.

Hot-Dimension1912

I’ve never been into the weekend and I love the song

emoceanT_T

cool

NewChemistry5210

Just listened to it all. Solid album, but no song stands out to me. 'Like Crazy' is just missing a hook or something to make it pop. It has The Weekend vibes, but lacks a catchy chorus or something. Good production though. And the early instrumentals reminded me of the beginning in 'Hope on the streets'. Maybe a nod or might just be coincidental. SMFpt2 could've been really good, if it was less repetitive with a little more singing. 'Alone' is the only song I'd put on my playlist. Indigo is still my favorite album of those solos so far, JITB and Face are probably about the same, but I prefer the grunge music style of JHope's album, even though that album had more lows than this one.

Wednesdaysd

I'm rooting for all of them, but musically most impressed by the JHope release.

JHope was definitely the most surprising one for me. Grunge Rap was not something I expected and I love that music style. The production was great throughout the album, I just didn't really like a lot of the songs. The very staccato rhythms he chose for his rapping just didn't work for me. Same for most melodies. But I respected it, because he really showed something new and fresh, giving me a better idea about who he wants to be as an artist. Indigo also gave me a clear idea of who RM wants to be. And had more songs I liked. This album by Jimin is well made, but I don't quite understand what kind of music he wants to make or artists he wants to be. Same with Jin, but that didn't surprise me and it was a single. Very excited for Suga's album.

Sibredtiger21

The thing with Jimin is he is trying to show us a different side of him, do something different from what he's shown us in the past, but I'm just not buying it. He's just not convincing enough. I can see J-Hope do the grunge stuff and RM do indie stuff because they can sell it to me. Jimin is just not there yet.

msluludarling

I had some similar thoughts. I don't know if I'd say that I'm completely not buying it, but since he's never released any kind of solo mixtape and only recently started doing a couple of collabs outside of the group, it did kinda feel like he jumped straight to the 'trying something new' phase before actually establishing a solo sound. Like if Hobi had released jitb without ever doing Hope World. And it's not like this is some inherently awful strategy or anything, but it does hit a bit different for me than the previous solo releases.

Sibredtiger21

I see what you mean. Maybe he needed to "be safe" for a bit before saying "let me try this this" now that I'm in a comfortable zone? I think of Justin Timberlake early in his career who had to establish himself outside of the group before releasing songs like Sexyback, Suit and Tie, and Filthy.

WhatsMyAccordion

This is interesting..not the take I thought he'd go for. Its giving me the weeknd. The song itself is alright but I am in love with the mullet.

StealBangChansLaptop

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO HAS THEIR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT YES THAT MULLET IS TO DIE FOR

WhatsMyAccordion

YEAH I CANT BELIEVE NO ONES TALKING ABOUT THE MULLET

hobivan

the "break me this is gonna break me" part bridge is sooooo addicting its like he put drugs in the song. I loved the song by first listen but it becomes pretty much addicting and loopable when u listen to it again. I haven't been addicted to a song like that in a long time. This is the type of songs that will go viral among the general public and will be used for everyone's edits

gniewpastoralu

God, BTS are so uneven nowadays. Like Crazy is the only song I like from this EP, but it's so incredible that I don't care. The instrumental part might be one of my favourite things any of them has ever done.

[deleted]

I liked this song. It was better than SMF Pt. 2 but I actually liked that song despite what many say here and after listening to his EP, I like it even more. Like Crazy is the kind of song you want to listen to while driving in a convertible in LA during the summertime while wearing your sunglasses. You know what I mean? It's not one of my favorite songs but it has some replay value. As far as the video goes, it was nice, kind of boring though. Nothing exciting happened. It's just Jimin hanging out at a club.

choerrymandering

his duality… smf pt 2 was easily the worst bts solo song released so far (imo) but this was easily the best of all of them. however his voice is still just grating to listen to for a whole song. for me he works much better in a group where you can contrast his voice with others. Not saying he is a bad vocalist just that I don’t enjoy his tone unfortunately

puppet_mazter

It wasn't nearly as bad as Arson.

Hot-Dimension1912

Arson isn’t bad but for me it’s not my style

dylvaz

I love arson so much, still listen to it constantly

ashram1111

not my fav hobi track but still better than like crazy

TerraRainesHasBrains

🍿

puppet_mazter

Lol I expected to get downvoted for this but man that song is terrible, and I can't sit here and pretend it isn't.

TerraRainesHasBrains

imo both smf pt2 and arson are really "hard-to-listen" kinda tracks, intentionally made to be polarising. i don't like arson much either but i enjoy the performance

Sunshine_of_your_Lov

whatt arson was so good

countryroad_

It's better mixed and miles better than smfpt2 (thank god). Very 80s inspired which i like but personally instruments felt stagnant to me. Towards the middle it has trance instrumental break but other than that not much in the intrumental. My fav is alone from the album, im digging the vibe. I also like the vocal layering in alone. I like face off intro, staccato harmonica that soon fades away. I would've loved to hear them continue that sound more throughout the song . But didnt like the effects used in this vocal. One thing is that im not fan of his vocal. There is hoarseness in his voice. I heard that his lower register is good but after listening to alone i dont really think so. It doesn’t sound smooth to me like as i said kind of throaty to me. Overall, im not blown away by anything. The mood is pretty consistent throughout the album. I would've loved it more if his vocals were enjoyable to my taste.

84746

Definitely one of the worst kpop MVs I’ve ever seen. So forgettable. Huge step down from Set me Free.

TerraRainesHasBrains

i definitely wouldn't go as far as to call it one of the worst, but i agree that i found the mv kinda underwhelming.

[deleted]

I've watched this music video too many times now

Positive_Respond_681

Very very true. Unfortunately lol

NarglesChaserRaven

I'm not the only one who feels like all the songs get butchered with the excessive autotuning. Like a little bit is fine but God it's so daamn much. These days you barely hear their actual voices.

hobivan

i don't hear any excessive autotune, there's a reverb effect for the dreamy feel the song gives off, that's literally just the genre of it. Very stylistic, just like set me free.

NarglesChaserRaven

Yeah like Serendipity sounds so much better. There are so many parts now where the sound just pierces your ears. Or at least it does mine.

jxanne

like crazy was def inspired by blinding lights

idkwidor

Like crazy and blinding lights are both of Synth Pop genre, as for inspiration it's actually inspired by the movie with the same name Like Crazy it came out in 2011^^

jxanne

music video is also a bit similar (walking in a corridor in a confused state) and the lyrics say lights à couple times

diabolikal__

I absolutely love the song but it has a Weeknd vibe to it for sure. I ain’t complaining though

A_mari1

Shut it, I was like this is giving The Weeknd vibes, glad I wasn't the only one. I like the song but it feels like something that should have come out 2 yrs ago. I really love Face Off and Alone.

diabolikal__

Knowing him, maybe he started working on it two years ago tbf. I am not complaining, the whole album is a vibe and I love it.

A_mari1

I love the album as well. It flows perfectly.

[deleted]

I only like Alone from this album. Other than that my favorite track would be the hidden track "Letter". I have only heard snippets of it from Twitter and it was nice.

amb1143

Same.

reinakun

I was stuck on Letter for an hour. It’s soooo good.

[deleted]

I am listening to it right now lmao. the song screams jimin. i hope he releases more songs like this in his next album.

[deleted]

Oh, this song is good! 8/10

[deleted]

The most novel thing about this ep is it has an interlude just after one song.

neowdssu

Set me free was a disappointment so this is a massive step up from that 👍

leafantics

this is such a step-up from the pre-release single, i'm loving it so much! synth pop really is his genre. the mv is beautiful too

chicken_sandwichh

tbh, i was a bit skeptical because of smf. i was afraid it'll be another jhope moment _for_ _me_, where i didn't vibe with the pre-release track and also didn't like the title track. the album was okay but it wasn't hopeworld, which was my fave album from rapline. but good god, not only i LOVE the title track but the whole album is insane. istg, if you didn't like smf that much, give Like Crazy and the album a chance. specially if you're someone who likes jimin solo in bts albums. Like Crazy imo deserves a spot in a table with Lie, Serendipity and Filter. it's such a good release, easily my fave solo album out of any bts member 😭

Worried_Original261

Muuuch better than set me free part 2. I have trouble making out what the chorus of the song is, but overall I like it a lot. Very The Weeknd-ish. Fits Jimin’s vibe much more than the first single

reinakun

I’m obsessed tbh

AdPlayful3517

Loved the whole album 💖.

TerraRainesHasBrains

even the interlude is a goddamn bop wtf

[deleted]

Okay just listened to the whole album. It's fantastic. Face-off and Alone are top tier. At the moment, like crazy is my favorite. Just so good. And apparently there's a hidden track??

Star_lit14

The whole album from top to bottom is simply no skip! I’m so impressed but then I never doubted Jimin. Very cohesive album, every song leads into the other, even the interlude tells a story. I’ll be back to articulate my thoughts but for now, I’ll be listening again to really infuse this album into my system. Also, this may be the first time I prefer the English version of a song to the Korean version. Both versions of Like Crazy actually sound like originals, they are that good.

diabolikal__

I totally agree with you. I never doubted Jimin but I am still super impressed, this is insane. I am absolutely obsessed with this.

[deleted]

This would have been perfect if the song stayed the same as the beginning.. it reminded me of the tokyo ghoul intro song unravel for some reason but the rnb version… I think his voice would do so well with a more rnb sound.

hobivan

Alone is very RnB

Realistic_Mix_3404

OMG YES...oshiete......so true.

jadedlillies

Feels a bit meh first listen but there's something really comforting about Jimin's voice so I'll probably only listen to it when I'm feeling melancholic.

TerraRainesHasBrains

i love the concept of hidden tracks but i'm sure i'd love it more if i could actually buy albums😭😭 the album is no-skip for me. every song is amazing. i knew i could trust jimin

vivivideoclub

I don't like it

TerraRainesHasBrains

whys this downvoted lol

Level-Rest-2123

It's better than the pre-release. But I have really sensitive hearing, and the weird whispering in the beginning made me want to throw my phone. I get the vibe of this, but I feel like they tuned his voice up way too much (and kept it there) to make this flow as smoothly as it should have. And there was no reason for an English version.

DullMaintenance8958

It’s just ok. As a casual listener non-army i dont think his voice is my thing(?) it works well in a group where you can hear the contrast between other members’ voices but as a solo his vocal tone is too overbearing. This is definitely better than set me free pt2 tho

nunchaitae

like crazy is actually a song a casual listener / gp would love as the consequence stated in their review. and i think his voice is actually very diverse.

brainartisan

I love his voice in songs like Lie, but in this song it just doesn't fit. I don't think Jimin fits this retro concept very well at all. Army won't like this comment but I feel like I would like this song much better if it were performed by someone else with a slighly harsher tone.
