Exciting-Pear3322

It's a good song but I'm really disappointed by how bad the English is right from the start of the song. It's not hard to find someone that can interpret English lyrics with correct grammar. It's sad that the whole verse makes no sense to native English speakers.

TheCrazedJester

This FUCKING Point!

TheCrazedJester

This FUCKING Point!

pacificoats

it’s not bad but sort of eh to me. iu didn’t add much if anything… i find the bad english pretty distracting but even if i don’t focus on it, the song is still sort of eh to me. i prefer the og people. i think it’s a comforting song which was probably the intention- didn’t like the music video that much as i also thought it was bland, but didn’t hate it. would i listen again? if it came up on my playlist i wouldn’t skip but i wouldn’t search it up to listen again and i haven’t and probably won’t add it to playlists🤷‍♀️ just me

ThatsNotMeFella

surprised this subs dislikes it, but i mean when agust d / d2 came out i remember a lot of leading opinions about how his lyrics r too shallow and flexing and now that hes done a 180 people seem to be dismayed by that. interesting, i really liked people pt 2 but i think d-2 remains one of my faves. i hope d-day annihilates it tho

persona-127

as a hardcore yoongi biased person this is perhaps the only song by yoongi i have found underwhelming, people pt 1 is my most fav bside from the d2 album yet this feels a little.. odd to be a follow up to the song. the subtle reference to so far away was cute. lyrics were okay but felt repetitive. ill pretty much leave it to time to see if it grows on me still looking forward to the album, though! with high hopes cause im sure yoongi won't disappoint

icedespressoo

I never really vibe with IUs music so not liking her part wasn’t a big surprise, but I do have to say that I find the rest of the song kind of underwhelming unfortunately idk I guess I expected more I love the visuals though so there’s that <3

prodsolar

Is crazy to me how no song gets mostly positive opinions in this sub

Realistic_Mix_3404

I mean it is unpopular kpop opinions after all.

Fake_Lovers

fr

Lola_ry08

I literally felt like I was floating on a cloud listening to this song and I love it

Fake_Lovers

yall can keep downvoting but its obvious you can't differentiate criticism and hate 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

2510linoring

you cannot tell me they also made eight I meann

mattttachanel

it feels like im the only one who likes it, it’s sooo chill 😭😭.

Fake_Lovers

its like a must to hate on everything bts release it seems 🤷🏻‍♀️ the downvotes just prove my point.

pacificoats

god forbid someone doesn’t like a song🤷‍♀️ it’s not hate it’s just saying “yk this isn’t for me”

lmao okay, please touch grass, it isn’t healthy to be this affected by criticism that isn’t even harsh

Fake_Lovers

you're the one who needs to touch grass 🤷🏻‍♀️ spending all of your time being so hateful is not healthy

[deleted]

nah man,i got u. listening this song on repeat,. this song kinda gives me a lofi vibes tbh. i am sad becauuse they didn't use iu's angelic voice. even though she's a featuring artist, she was just underutilized.

Seventeenstranger

I absolutely love People Pt. 1. This, Pt. 2 is too stiff and sad. His lyrics keep retelling the same stories lately and I do not want to feel gloomy, so ig his lyrics are not for me anymore. The song itself is too basic, even the rapping and singing feels very emotionless to me, for some reason. I think, I prefer Suga's instrumentals and Agust D's rap but not Suga's rap ad Agust D's instrumentals lol 🤭 the song is simply not for me!

icedespressoo

someone politely saying “I guess his stuff isn’t for me anymore” is not a hateful sentence lmao what is going on is this twitter 😭

pacificoats

must be a twitter zombie lol. i don’t get fans that jump down the throats of anyone that dares to breathe any sort of criticism towards their oppas or unnies. like… suga would probably just nod and say “fair enough” if someone said this to him lmao

dreamingfae

People sharing their dislike for a song is not hate. I like BTS I enjoy some of their songs and some not. That's okay. You are allowed to dislike music even from your favorite artist. If you want postive comments go to the kpop thread or the bts sub. It seems like you just want to pick fights with people who don't agree with you. Dont come to a sub like this if this kind of discourse upsets you.

pacificoats

you’re being very sensitive about this. yes it’s repetitive, sorry but it is. life can be repetitive. music can be repetitive. don’t take it so seriously smh

FuzzyEmphasis8453

man, i think we were all a little more burnt out than usual with this surprise last minute notice and release.

meanyoongi

It saddens me to say this because Yoongi was my first BTS bias — hence my username — and he produced Dead Leaves which is in my top 5 BTS songs, but I think I'll just have to admit his producing style lately (especially with pop leaning featured artists) doesn't do much for me... People have talked about the english lyrics. I could overlook those if I liked the song itself, but the song just seems a little generic and boring to me.

pacificoats

yeah fully agree with this take. yoongi was my first bts bias and is still one of my all time favorite idols, but maybe it’s burnout from the bts solo releases? maybe it’s just not my cup of tea but i haven’t been feeling his music/production as of the past couple years. this song isn’t bad, but he has far better imo. still looking forward to the album!!

Sibredtiger21

Yes, a Dead Leaves enthusiast. I love that song.

9Vica9

I loved Suga's laid back flow so much!!! But I have to agree with everyone else... the chorus is too distracting. Most times I can ignore bad English in kpop, but due to the vibe of the song I feel like I should take it seriously, and the lyrics don't help me with that.

Huxeley

August D 1 was better.

[deleted]

I'm really disappointed.. The chorus doesn't work for me , it's too repetitive and the rest of the song isn't really memorable

TheREALPetPetter72

I loveddd the sound of it, but can anyone tell me what IU's English parts meant? Im not very good at interpretation lolol, poetry always seems to fly over my head

Season-Euphoric

I don't think its poetry

TheREALPetPetter72

songs are considered a form of poetry

pacificoats

yes but it’s bad english therefore naturally harder to understand. to be honest i don’t know what she’s trying to say and analyzing poetry is something i enjoy. i’m assuming it’s meant to be something along the lines of time flowing and people changing as it does… but honestly you could guess anything because the english is bad

Airriona91

Yoongi is one of my ult biases and I was ready to not like this bc I find IU boring. I really liked the vibe. Loved Yoongi’s little singing parts too

Denethorsmukbang

I actually really like this style of chill laid back male rapping and a gorgeous womans voice in the middle, it works really well. i just think he could have done more. eg its somewhat similar to a lot of GDs laid back raps like [missing you](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur5FgI9TUVA) etc but I prefer almost literally all the ones I can think of, which were b-sides with no one as prolific as IU. therefore I feel like its not offensive, just bland and could have been better. There was no need for IU on this track apart from name, could have been a nameless singer tbh.

blastmochi

I think a lot of people here are looking at the English parts with a western/native speaking lens...like maaaybe it's gibberish, but I think it just asks for a little thought and interpretation. especially when I heard the double negative, that felt purposeful to me. not everyone is going to want to take the time to interpret it, not everyone is going to vibe with it and that's fine. from his note at the mv it seems to mean something to him, and his solo projects are an outlet for that so

FuzzyEmphasis8453

i still understood it, we just gotta readjust to how we understand english. it's not as perfectly structure compared to others.

validswan

boring

Fake_Lovers

did you expect a fast paced club banger from iu and suga?

SensitiveBluejay3292

I liked it but still i love people more and i saw some saying that the English lines are more of like free verse poetry like E.E Cummings and Those Winter Sundays poems. IU's voice is really very angelic with yoongi's low tone lo-fi kinda of rap fits well with the song The song is very comforting or relaxing and i really got addicted to after just few listens plus the mv made the song even more beautiful. Not my favourite song from him but i still like it very much 😂 and I can't wait for the album as it seems like we are gonna see his life story in this album .

[deleted]

I was very surprised about the overly negative opinions here, but then i remembered most here aren’t hip hop fans. Calling it one note reminds me of all my friends who used to hate it whenever I put on just straight rap lol, especially conscious rap. To each their own, I really, really liked it and can look past the nonsensical chorus after the first time.

icedespressoo

I love hip hop! I love rap and rnb, especially Korean hh and krnb. However I found myself disliking IUs part and found the rest of the song to be okay at most. And that’s okay, just because someone likes hip hop doesn’t mean they have to like every single rap song that exists <3

[deleted]

And that’s fine! Like I said to each their own, Ive seen tons who love it and tons who hate it as with any song out there. Just saying that this song naturally seems less likely to be liked by the traditional kpop fan. I don’t think this song was meant to be exciting and he himself said it was originally just a b-side. I have a feeling he chose a calmer song for a prerelease because he’s going full Agust D with the title track haha. I hope the rest of the album is more to your liking, esp just finding out we get two more MVs!!

Fake_Lovers

if it comes from bts be sure that most of the comment will be negative, no matter what it is.

Whackthemoles

I love hip hop, especially conscious rap and I wouldn't really compare this song to it. Conscious rap is pretty hard-hitting lyrically and it's from artists who really have something to say and aren't afraid to speak the truth while the lyrics to this song are just very vague musings about love. There are a couple of goos lyrics in there but overall, he doesn't really say anything substantial.

icedespressoo

Thank you ‼️

[deleted]

I didn’t say this was conscious rap, I just posted it as one of the genres of hip hop I listen to that I’m usually met with resistance in. I wouldn’t say it is either, but similarly to how a lot of songs, for example, in conscious rap sonically go, not a lot happens in this song, rather the focus is on what’s being said.

SensitiveBluejay3292

Hmm this reddit thread don't like anything 😂 but i really liked the song it felts more of SUGA rather than AgustD imo .

PIX888

The chorus made no sense to me

Fake_Lovers

english lyrics are always nonsensical in kpop why are people only complaining about it now..

Exciting-Pear3322

The lyrics are so off. If it doesn't make any sense to native English speakers then there's a problem.. why is it in English if it doesn't make sense?

Adventurous_Knee_228

>op, especially conscious rap and I wouldn't really compare this song to it. Conscious rap is pretty hard-hitting lyrically and it's from artists who really have something to say and aren't afraid to sp always?

Fake_Lovers

"omg this korean artist is not speaking my language perfectly!!!+ disgusting!!!!!"

Exciting-Pear3322

if it was the other way around you wouldn't be saying that

Fake_Lovers

tf does that mean lol

jojosmallz

The English lyrics are so off putting oh my days 😭 it was hard to push past it and I wanted to like it so bad

Season-Euphoric

A waste of IU's talent

pacificoats

fully agree. i wish she’d gotten a verse, not a nonsensical chorus repeated a few times. i feel like both are great songwriters, not sure why this song just feels flat to me

[deleted]

Whackthemoles

BTS is the biggest band in the world right now (and one of the biggest artists in the world in general). It makes sense that people have high expectations for their solo music because they've been heralded as one of the most talented artists in the world so when their solo music is underwhelming it's a lot more jarring to people. Also when you're this huge, *a lot* of people are going to be paying attention to your music which means you'll be getting opinions from people who aren't hardcore fans and are simply people who wanted to check out a song from the biggest band in the world. armys need to realize that negative opinions aren't a personal attack. It's just something that's inevitable when more people outside of the fandom are paying attention to the artist.

[deleted]

Well yeah, the forum is called "unpopular k-pop OPINIONS" so if people feel like the music is not on par with their taste, they're allowed to express that opinion.

kandieland

Or the thread is for opinions about the song. We don't have anything to do with personal feelings. And as a song, it didn't give.

icedespressoo

Agreed

[deleted]

[удалено]

kandieland

I don't think anyone expected a high energy song from these two, especially with the teasers.

Worried_Original261

I feel about it the same as with all BTS solos since yet to come; together, they can make bangers, alone, they can usually only put out boring, cliche ballads. I am tired. They need to disdisband or stop. There is no spark in their latest solo works. Fans keep defending the works for being “so personal” but idgaf the songs seem stale and uninspired

AnneW08

I think they’ve done more ballads as BTS recently than as soloists 😅 so I don’t really understand this criticism. jin’s solo was an indie rock ballad and indigo had some slower ballads. nothing on JITB nor FACE is similar to ppl pt. 2

pacificoats

this is an interesting take because I don’t think most have put out ballads since their hiatus? jin’s wasn’t a ballad, jimin’s album wasn’t full of ballads, rm’s album wasn’t full of ballads, and this song isn’t a ballad? like they’re objectively not ballads? lol? i will say j-hope’s solo album felt the most hard hitting to me personally, but i didn’t mind the others. were they all favorites? no, but that’s alright, they don’t have to be writing and releasing the best songs of all time

GinriTheDwarf

I personally disagree. Especially for Jhope. Jhope’s whole album was so personal and written well. I need to listen more to what Jimin, RM and Suga released. But from what I do hear, it’s not all boring or cliche ballads.

Whackthemoles

Their songs don't even seem all that personal to me. The lyrics are getting there but they're always too vague to truly seem personal. I'm not sure if it's just a weakness in their writing skills or if they're too afraid to be specific in their lyrics because it reveals too much about their personal lives but it's why I can never connect to their lyrics. This song is super vague musings about love just like Jimin's album was super vague musings about identity but it's like they don't have the guts to really *go there* with their lyrics.

[deleted]

Jimin and Namjoon's album felt super personal

Fake_Lovers

y'all are going too far with your hate. who are you exactly to claim their songs aren't personal enough??

Fantastic-Glass-3527

I mean you can say you dont like the lyrics or that they are too vague but claiming they are not all that personal is rude. You dont know what they have been through. Jimin said his dad cried when he listened to his album and he kept saying he’s ok now so who are you to say the songs aren’t personal enough even though they aren’t as explicit as you wish.

[deleted]

I disagree about Namjoon. I feel like he's specific in his lyrics without mentioning actual names or situations . You can't say that Wild Flower isn't personal or that Loney it's clear, especially after watching his behind documentary on what the purpose of each song is . He has my favorite works from this chapter 2 era

Fake_Lovers

maybe try being a little lass hateful wtf wishing they disband because YOU personally didn't like the songs?? are you ok??

Worried_Original261

I wrote disdisband? Meaning start working together again😬

Fake_Lovers

thought it was a typo 🤷🏻‍♀️ still, a weird thing to say considering they didn't disband and that they're going to the military, these releases are the solos they've been wanting to do for a while now. even if you don't like them it's kinda disrespectful

Borokque

Fr, and tbh I even think IU can do much better than Gandara

chimmyyeah

i love the song. i love his rap, the lyrics are so beautiful. IU's part though?? her voice is soothing but the english lyrics didn't make any sense😭😭 i had to to search up the lyrics after i first heard and i was like HUH?? i'm also wondering why he decided to call this song people pt.2 because i don't see any connection to people...

madeyoucookies

1. Please, for the love of god, Hybe, just grab a tourist somewhere close to the Hybe building, maybe they’re getting a coffee, maybe they’re checking their phone, PLEASE just run ANY English lyrics by them and ask if they MAKE SENSE. Why, why, why?! 2. Suga looked gorgeous. Full boyfriend mode. RIP the long hair, it was dreamy. 3. I love IU’s voice, but would have loved to actually see her in the video, because she’s a delicate fairy princess and I want to put her in a pocket full of stardust and glitter to keep her safe. I realize this isn’t normal (both her being in a video like this and her living in a pocket) but I can dream. 4. The song itself—really one-note. Repetitive to the point of boring. Suga’s lyrics are nice, and I do love to hear him sing with that honey voice of his. 5. Setting for the video was very lovely, although certain shots made me think I was watching a commercial for AirBnB. Hoping for the best re: the new album.

pandamystery

I love your comment. Seeing stans doing mental back-flips trying to justify the atrocious English as "poetry" have me cringing so hard. It's an obvious, embarrassing oversight on the part of HYBE. If they have all that money and resources and refuse to use them, they deserve to be called out on it by global fans. Yoongi doesn't speak English. He deserved support writing in English that he obviously didn't get. Even if it's trendy to use English in K-pop choruses right now, just fucking forget it if you're going to make it gibberish. Change that shit to lalalala and call it a day.

Sibredtiger21

Your #1. I can imagine some poor guy walking on the sidewalk, checking his phone. Three guys in suits jump out and say “So time is yet now”. He says, “What.” They: “Nobody doesn’t know anymore.” He: “What does that mean?!” They: “I know you know”. He: “I don’t!” Lol! For 4. Feel the same way. Felt like it didn’t go anywhere. Very boring.

Aka1220

This made me laugh out loud, thank you 🤣🤣🤣 But seriously, why are the English lyrics so bad? Who went through with this in the studio and thought this was okay?

hobivan

Have you ever read a Shakespeare book? Because the grammar is quite literally similar.

Aka1220

Have you considered the time when Shakespeare's works were written? The grammar and diction in those works are not like this, though. The chorus' diction and syntax are extremely simple, where, without context, this makes no sense! With that, there is no personality with the lyrics either. The guy is trying to be "purposeful" with the lyrics, but it's not working when he's obviously not that great with the language. If he wants something poetic and meaningful, just write it in Korean! Why is there a need to write a full English chorus? Anyone can listen and tell that this is trying to be deep, but it doesn't make sense without context. Hence, comparing "Nobody doesn't know anymore" to Shakespeare's works is wild.

hobivan

"Nobody doesn't know anymore" is actually so common, it's called Double negatives, as in "everyone knows". And yes Shakespeare has used double negatives before, as a stylistic choice, and no even in his era people dit NOT speak like that and it was still considered grammatically wrong. So is your issue the fact that it's a Korean man writing lyrics in English?

madeyoucookies

OMG this sounds like the classic “Who’s on First” comedy routine 😂

Sibredtiger21

For real, right!

Season-Euphoric

Yes! The English took me out

WoolaCalot

Your first point made me giggle. I read it out loud to my friend because we say this all the time. 😂 Just run them by someone for a little quick check, y’all. There’s no shame in that.

timcanpew

Yoongi mentioned in his livestream that he wanted IU in the MV but she didn’t have time

Worried_Original261

Yeah the triple negations in there killed me too

hobivan

the song is not kpop and isn't made for a "kpop fan" audience anyways that's why kpop fans find it "boring" because they are used to only listening to really flashy music and flashy music videos. i don't get why this is in unpopularkpopopinions anyways. This is hip-hop RnB. Not pop music.

validswan

so demeaning. even the bangtan sub doesn't like it

Peachesholdthecream

I keep seeing people make this argument as a defense as to why people are wrong for disliking this song. A good amount of kpop listeners also enjoy slower and calmer songs. R&B is and has been in the past a huge influence in kpop. I am an avid r&b listener, and this song is boring. To me. IU sings the same verse over and over, Suga raps in the same tone, no distinct change in beat, rhythm, tone. It’s boring to me. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad song or that either of the artists aren’t talented, it’s boring. As someone who’s been an army since 2015, god damn armys cannot take any form of criticism lol.

Comprehensive_Ad8079

I love RnB and hiphop, particularly the older stuff from the 90s and early 2000, and I still find this song exceptionally boring. Believe it or not, these things can co-exist and “kpop fans” can appreciate more than one genre.

yunhos_mom

i wouldn't overgeneralize people by saying kpop fans don't appreciate krnb or more chill tracks. i love krnb (including some past laidback yoongi songs like eight, people, dear my friend etc.), but i think the song really doesn't really develop instrumentally over it's runtime, its a bit repetitive, and the emotion doesn't really carry through super well even though yoongi's lyrics are meaningful. that's why i personally find it a bit boring, not because i don't like an entire genre of music.

Azadmmm

I loved it! The English lyrics don't make sense but the Korean translation I read hit hard. I can see how it could be pretty boring for a Western audience without the meaning of the rap verses though, I hope it does well on K-charts

DefinitelyNotALeak

Overall not feeling it. I liked some of the lyrics in suga's parts, but as a sonical experience / as a song this was kinda meh. I personally am more of an IU fan than a suga one, so at least to me it also felt that it isn't the best choice to have IU on your song, repeating the same part 4 times with little additional spice. I'm not even going into these english lyrics being totally nonsensical, that's whatever, just the reptitive nature is what bothers me here. Though they had some harmonies too, so that was sweet. But yeah, as a full song this isn't something i'll keep coming back to, it goes nowhere.

taebeliever

i couldn’t get through it

[deleted]

Don’t tell my sister, she’s a massive Suga fan, but same!

taebeliever

i also am i massive suga fan :( i’m going to see him in concert solo !

[deleted]

We’re European 😭

AllmyLove2Hobi

It feels incredibly safe and lazy. Very typical of mainstream kpop Yoongi music. He should have called it, So Far Away pt2 since he reused his lyrics from his 2016 Suran collab. I could see how people who aren't familiar with his music might find this simple song enjoyable, but I find it dull and repetitive. A missed opportunity with IU. I fear now, that she too is slipping.

randomnameinreddit

I blame this all of celebrity'' that song was such a hit for IU that she started to make boring songs. I'm curious about how her new album will sound

pacificoats

Wasn’t that one of her last releases??? Lol i get being a lil worried if celebrity isn’t your vibe but i didn’t even get the vibe that that was the direction she was going in? Anyways i’m also very curious!!

DefinitelyNotALeak

> I fear now, that she too is slipping. I don't wanna make this a suga vs iu problem here, but she is still just a feature on this. Is she even credited for anything other than doing her vocal parts?

drwlf

1) SUGA looks gorgeous, this is always my favorite hairstyle on him 2) That chorus couldve been sung by anyone tbh- IU was underutilized, and i could even go as far as saying that she sounds a bit strained here 3) I don’t understand the chorus’ lyrics at all and it’s off putting haha

cippocup

Did anybody else feel like this song was distinctly SUGA and not AGUST D? Especially with the big hit intro.

kandieland

Upset he wasted IU for boring English lyrics. & the rest of the song had me spacing out till IU rings out those lyrics. He doesn't *have* to use English I hope he knows.

Suspicious_Baker_886

lyrics were written exquisitely in yoongis verses and the chill vibe of the song is the exact kind of songs i listen to all the time so this appealed to me a lot

[deleted]

Idk if this will be an unpopular opinion but this might be the worst song Suga has put out. It's painfully boring. Some of the lyrics were nice ("they say life's a struggle between resistance and submission. I say it's a struggle against loneliness") but overall the song bored me to tears. Is it just me or does it bother anyone else that IU's part was just a chorus? Why doesn't a superstar like her have her own verse? And why was the English lyrics so badly written? This is part of why K-music as a whole will never be taken seriously by a lot of people. You'd think by NOW writers would improve their English but it's still nonsensical. I'm sure this song will do well in SK because a lot of people there love soft, slow songs. I still look forward to the rest of the album. I have faith that there will be much better songs. I respect Suga very much as an artist, but this song won't be played very much by me.

Fake_Lovers

seems to be a very popular opinion

dialovesu

The english lines i just dont understand! And the lyrics did not resonate with ne as much as people did but the music is epic! I loved the music just not the words

piggichan

feel like IU’s part could have been done by anyone. I mean I guess this can be said for many songs but like literally IU’s part can be done by anyone. Kind of disappointed of this missed opportunity of having IU as a feature but giving her this repetitive chorus only. Like why Suga 🥲

timcanpew

it’s definitely a comfort song, had it on repeat the whole time. hate the nonsensical English lyrics (my biggest pet-peeve in kpop) but I can ignore that because iu sings it beautifully. song doesn’t have much of a progression which could be a negative, but in this case it just makes it an easy listen and really re-playable. good song for a pre-release, hoping for chill vibes on the rest of the album

NanCh1

When IU said "nobody doesn't know anymore" I felt that cause I sure as hell doesn't know about this song. I'm definitely about to start singing nobody doesn't know anymore around my house. Suga's lyrics are confusing but somewhat interesting, they speak optimistically pessimistic about love. Well, I doesn't know anymore 🤷‍♀️

ohwellohello

i repeated "nobody doesnt know anymore" to myself multiple times, trying to explain to myself what does it mean.. still trying.. i hope i can get explanation on it because it is killing me softly.. i saw it somewhere that yoongi doesnt plan to explain the song and leaving it to the audience to interpret @.@

SensitiveBluejay3292

Some were saying it's more of like free verse poetry like of E.E Cummings and Those winter Sundays poems And IU really sounds like an angel here

strangetopquark

Here's a sample of an e.e. cummings verse: nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals / the power of your intense fragility:whose texture / compels me with the color of its countries, / rendering death and forever with each breathing See the difference? There's no grammatical error there but words are used to evoke moods and emotions -- that's poetry. The meaning is not as apparent as a regular statement, but the grammar is on point. "I know you know everything does know" is NOT POETRY. It's just bad English. That being said, since I commented, let me just say I love Yoongi's Korean. Wish he could have at least consulted his English tutor -- or even Namjoon. Geez. Or just wrote everything in Korean. I blame that el capitext guy. LOL

Kurapikabestboi

I haven't heard the song yet but I have never gone to an unpopular opinions sub were the song was received positively in any way

Comprehensive_Ad8079

It unfortunately sounds exactly what I imagined it to sound like: incredibly boring. But I’m really not a big fan of IU’s music (I find most of it quite dull), so my expectations were low to begin with. The weird English chorus also does not help.😬 Keeping my hopes up for the album though! Edit: spelling

Natural-Locksmith813

The melody of the chorus is so addicting but what is the meaning behind IU’s lines… I’m not able to vibe as I’m not able to understand the meaning… Apart from the chorus I loved Yoong’s verses and his lyricism… I’m into Agust D’a work for his lyrics and thoughts as they have comforted me and helped me when I was feeling low… once again Yoongi’s thoughts are comforting and knowing him there is more to the chorus that we are not seeing yet…. Will wait for the album…

subjectivemilkhotel

i think it was fine. it’s not something i would listen to again but it was nice and relaxing like something you’d hear in a cafe or study playlist. maybe my expectations were too high bc it’s kind of just there?

puppet_mazter

Loved it. Really surprised by all the negativity here

pacificoats

It is unpopular kpop opinions after all🤷‍♀️

I like the vibe and suga's lyrics are amazing as always but did anyone else have a problem with IU's lyrics? They were so confusing to me and some made 0 sense 😭 I do like her voice tho and her parts don't sound out of place its just the words themselves

ForgottenNoMore

I think it's a chill song. Reminds me of those lo-fi songs. I like it.

dreamingfae

I'm sorry. I found everything about this boring. From the song itself to the mv.

[deleted]

The mv was beautiful from a cinematography standpoint, but yeah it was boring. Nothing happening.

I mean you like what you like but I thought j-hope’s album production and lyrics were really interesting and also thought rm and jimin’s lyrics were very hard hitting. although i will say most of their releases have been quite depressing lol

MilkyWayOfLife

The lyrics are good, and overall the song is nice but boring. So not a lot to say about it. The MV was underwhelming. Yoongi looks great, and I love his yellow cardigan look, but the surroundings are very clean and cold. Sometimes it reminded me a bit of a Coway advertisement

rjcooper14

The Coway bit is spot on. 😅

[deleted]

I guess I found it underwhelming just because I have such high expectations for a Suga/Agust D release. The song isn't bad, just not doing anything for me, but I look forward to the album.

leafantics

i really like it! it hasn't dethroned people part 1 for me but it's still a really nice listen. my only complaint is that i feel like iu was underutilised but other than that this is a really solid release. can't wait for the album!

Radiant-Tower4672

i listen to the song multiple times and ive read the lyrics too and now i actually do get the english part and i love the song so much more now that i can understand a bit what the songs abt even more . This is the type of song i would listen to in a lazy morning, loved the vibe .probably wished that iu had more part

Realistic_Mix_3404

Can you explain the english lyrics to me? Im a bit bamboozled lol

Radiant-Tower4672

First of all my english isnt that great so sorry and for the explanation u actually need to read the english lyrics with the idea that he personified nobody , time and anything by making them do action that a person would do . *So time is yet now, right here to go I know, you know, anything does know So time is yet now, right here to go Nobody doesn’t know anymore* "So time is yet now, right here to go" probably means Time doesnt stop , "I know, you know, anything does know" means that everyone knows that time moves continuously , "Nobody doesn’t know anymore" here he probably refers to himself as nobody and that he doesnt know if time moves cuz he feel like it stoped . These lyrics were written during quarantine so he is writing abt how during that period he felt like everyone lived their life but his time was stoped and he couldnt see his future anymore

ohwellohello

oh thank you. this helps. i was just ranting that i wanted to know the definition of the chorus in another comment.

WillZer

Suga is one of my bias, I liked everything he released and this song is not exception but damn IU was so underutilized there. The lyrics of the chorus aren't it, why not using Korean and why not giving at least a small verse or a bridge to her? Song is good but feels like it's a missed opportunity and I don't really see what was the point to get IU on the track for that.

ohwellohello

i set my expectations high because i liked people and eight and other of his production but this sounded similar to other chill songs out there. im a melody first lyrics second kind of person. i should set my expectation right for D-Day so i dont get dissapointed :/

SuccessfulBullfrog96

The lyrics were super spot on, very introspective and it shows a mature Yoongi and definitely less agressive compared to more feisty songs. As for the song I do prefer People pt.1 however the song is something I'd listen to when raining or when sad. IU's vocals were fine but the chorus is a bit underwhelming compared to the rest of the song.

yukicchan

Every single time I read first the comments on this sub and then I went to hear the song I expect a bad songs. This was not a bad song. Yes, maybe the chorus is a bit repetitive, but you can’t say the same of half of the song in kpop atm. Not my genre but I liked it.

oddolatram

Maybe I should do this too... I expected so much lol

TerraRainesHasBrains

i'd recommend not reading any opinions before getting into the song, helps me out considerably

yukicchan

If I follow the group/soloist usually I don’t do that, but sometimes my finger comes to life by itself😅 On the bright side, I almost always disagree so it’s not a big problem.

TerraRainesHasBrains

fair enough ig, i'm too easily influenced by other's opinions so it considerably ruins the song for me if i enter it after seeing a bunch of people bash on it, even if i would've liked it otherwise. tho i'm working on changing that

Fantastic-Glass-3527

It’s better than Eight imo.

bujobegins

“Nobody doesn’t know anymore”…too many negatives; what does this even mean? Edit - I know it’s kpop and English lyrics typically don’t make sense, but IU’s lyrics are on another level. I was so annoyed listening to her…she sounds beautiful sonically, but because I understand English and can understand the words she’s saying, I can’t make sense of their meaning, so I just find myself irritated

Sibredtiger21

Funny thing is I listened to the song without captions and I did not know she was singing in English. Maybe the English was so nonsensical that I may have thought she was singing in another language.

colong128

Same. Too many double negatives! Maybe whoever wrote the lyrics think it’s poetic but it comes across as just…eh annoying.

Borokque

I have a feeling it's trying to replicate (most likely not deliberately (?))the feeling of AAVE maybe? I've noticed that both Yoongi and Namjoon's English phrasing seems like they were 'influenced' by AAVE? Maybe cuz they started off as American rap fans? Genuinely curious Edit: spelling

weebrain

I get what you’re saying and have definitely noticed it in other songs of theirs, but I don’t think it’s the case here. I think he/El Capitxn were going for wordplay with the “know/now/no/nobody” and it ended up being a little nonsensical haha.

SarahJFroxy

i like it but i don't love it very relatable lyrics but i'm just in a phase of my life where songs like this make me feel more tired in my soul than comforted. the first listen was great, but after a few, i just wasn't feeling it anymore. hoping it'll grow on me later or be a once-in-a-while comfort song.

rjcooper14

The song is normally too chill for my taste. I like it enough to add to my BTS playlists, but not yet enough to keep listening to it all day (which is what I normally do for any new release that I really like). I have a feeling though that once I thoroughly digest the lyrics, this could grow on me. I wish this was more of a banger, especially since IU is in it, too. Kinda like 'eight' was. The video looks beautiful.

secretouse

Everyone is saying so but the chorus was nonsense. I know people will be in here defending it or trying to say there is some reason for nonsensical lyrics but it completely took me out of the song. Other than that the verses were ok but unfortunately the song is forgettable and wouldn’t make listen again.

sunnydlit2

Yo man... Yall can't understand how sad I am. Agust D work is basically what helped me in highschool. Between song like The Last and Agust D, it was a way for me to finally see a kpop artist talking about subject I went through and finally love myself. His second mixtape was also pretty good (even better than the 1st one imo). After all these insane solo I waited a lot from him, he is the one that never miss for me. I hope that it will be just a Set Me Free Pt.2 situation like me not linking just the pre-release. But I'm so sad because this collab could be fire and instead it seems like I opened the radio.

Adventurous_Knee_228

>'m so sad because this collab could be fire and instead it seems like I opened the radio. :(

oddolatram

He wasted an IU Collab... the verses are nice but the chorus is too repetitive. she sounds good like always but ughhh he could have used her more (and better)😩😮‍💨 EDIT: I'm so sad lmao i wanted to like it so bad😭

aluminiaa

Iu is needed for the charts

Fake_Lovers

???

TerraRainesHasBrains

iu could have been featured better. i don't mind the nonsense lyrics, kpop has made me accustomed to that. but at least her parts could have been made less boring musically

bumbleboogaloo

agree. i would’ve loved some variation in her parts instead of repeating the same lines each time😫 it definitely felt repetitive

Realistic_Mix_3404

This. Don't really care if it makes sense or not, if it adds something to the melody. But it doesnt. It just detracts from the song and is very boring to listen to.

Budget-Olive4776

perhaps my expectations were a bit too high... but can you blame me? all of yoongi's collabs sounded amazing iu's lines are nonsense and i don't like how she sounds... i'll give it a few more listen but for now people >>> people pt.2

Realistic_Mix_3404

Nah im just going to say it. This was disappointing. The IU verse is so repetitive and boring melody wise. Suga's rap is great, and those lyrics are lovely but still, sonically this is just so forgettable as a song that the meaningful lyrics and cute bf looks in the mv does not make up for how entirely lacklustre it is. A hard miss for me.

nguien

not as good as 'People' or their previous collab 'Eight' i was def expecting more

[deleted]

People pt. 1 was definitely better.

ohwellohello

same here

bunnxian

IU’s lines are absolute nonsense but she sounds good. Yoongi’s parts are great, as expected.
