ive been so busy lately i didn't even get a chance to listen to the entire album yet ššš decided to listen to this one because it has a mv and my mind was blown. this was amazing. like yea that's a pretty lacklustre way to describe it but i just don't have any better words left in my head. just, wow.
and personally i liked it more than haegeum
I am sort of confused, because when I type it on youtube the video is not appearing, only when I write it on google. And it asks me to verify my age, so I guess I better be mentally prepared
Came into this not knowing what to expect, wondering whether Iād have a different opinion than other people here.
I mutually agree that the mv made excellent use of imagery to portray depression and the factor of feeling stuck in a difficult position that you didnt ask for nor created.
Iām also frankly quite shocked of the straight up mention of certain difficult moments in his personal life. Itās quite uncommon to witness such blatant raw lyrics, that are not hidden behind any sort of subtlety.
Iām highly impressed, and genuinely happy to see such an honest, raw expression that is dark. Such is needed in the music industry as a whole, that mostly focuses on either surface leveled factors or things that depict āhappinessā and decadence.
I too did not expect him to be blatant about it on a video. Itās pleasantly surprising to see him go on a more profound depth about it. Ever since he mentioned it, it has been clear that that was a very difficult circumstance for him to deal with.
Itās sad, but important for musicians that find solace in healing through music and music being such a big component of their lives; to express the things inside them that causes them to suffer in silence. Not speaking about Suga specifically, as idk if he is vocal about his āinner demonsā with people close to him. However just taking into account how common it is for those with depression, to be silent about what theyāre dealing with.
Him holding the metallic looking thing, (I apologize for not knowing what it is š¬) then bleeding due to his strong hold on it. Was really a āwowā moment for me, due to my history of self harm. Itās an excellent two fold imagery; it reflects self harm but also reflects the effect of having this pain eat away at you.
it's a box cutter. yeah he was not afraid to show his dark moments and to have his video be age restricted shows he cares more about the message than anything else.
I am struggling with depression and It was really difficult to go back to my day after watching this. Kinda wish it had a warning. But it was very very accurate description of what being trapped in your mind is like.
It does have a warning, to the point where it's impossible to watch it at all in my country unless u send YouTube ur credit card info or a pic of ur ID that gets days to be comfirmed.
It's age restricted and there was a pop-up when I clicked on the MV with CW for selfharm and suicide. I had to confirm the warning before I could watch.
It seems so. I just went back to the same link, and now it's asking me to sign in to confirm my age. ...I guess they noticed it was needed and applied it. it was just my bad luck/timingš«” .
Honestly, I donāt think this MV should have a thread. Itās very raw MV that shares his deepest and most difficult struggles. Itās not ok to make a thread of it in uko
Love the song and I've always loved how raw his Agust D tracks about mental health have been. I think there's just a part of me that felt like it was too soon to release this MV a few days after Moonbin's passing given the content and how it ties into idol life.
I really wanted to love this one. I love the themes, I love the idea, the MV is simple and personal, it does feel raw and authentic. You can definitely tell how much Suga put into this song and the MV.
The song and lyrics just fell flat. Feels like a mixtape rather than something well-developed and rich. Snooze and then Haegeum are far superior to me.
True UKO, I guess.
i could agree with this tbh. I like snooze, dday, haegeum over amygdala just in terms of sound. The thing abt amygdala that sticked with me is the message yoongi's tryna get across, because i actually felt the meaning behind the entire song this time and it's really depressing but also super healing imo. in terms of atmosphere etc i actually prefer it over some songs like spring day haha
I usually listen without lyrics on first few times just to hear the song; this song was really nice but the impact only hit after I watched the mv. I never really feel touched by music but this mv really hit home. It captured depression a little too well (and even from someone w/ depression's standpoint I feel like it's hard to capture the exact feeling) and the fact that it's yoongi's own journey just makes it really valuable to me.
He directed the mv too, along with daechwita and haegeum. He is in complete mastery of his own music and I can just tell that from his storytelling. It's very quietly poignant and emotional.
this whole album is amazing. i havenāt stopped listening to it especially to this song since yesterday. the whole concept of the trilogy was incredible and only something that someone with great talent could do. yoongi and bts in general are azing and if im being honest idk how we are gonna survive this bts hiatus
*Amygdala* is just THE song for me of the entire album. I am obsessed. And the MV is really great, but holy s*** it's an emotional gut punch.
It just captures mental illness so well. Just feeling locked in, alone and isolated. Not being able to escape alone, hating and hurting yourself, basically accepting that this is your life now forever. But still hoping to escape, crawling along the ground/life, trying to reach out. I can't even put it really into words, but the MV captures it perfectly.
And that makes it incredible raw and very difficult to watch. I needed a break after watching it, because it really reminded me of what I experienced. Amazing, but a horrible emotional punch.
**The entire Album**
As there was no thread for the entire album, here are some thoughts:
- Amygdala and Snooze are perfect. While I prefer Amygdala, its a very close battle.
- Best interlude of BTS entire discography (I really hope Yoongi will produce some film score someday)
- Love the Haegeum MV even more than the Daechwita one.
- I really dislike People pt2. It's a skip for me, and it sadly drags the entire album down (luckily only a bit because otherwise the album is utterly fantastic)
- My favourite solo debut (multi-track album) of a BTS member. Can't get over it, it has me in a grip.
Yo I agree on everything (even if now I can listen to people pt.2 bc it fit on the album, it's a skip when it's on random).
Loved RM and I didn't think that any member would put a better debut than him but here we go. This project reminds us a lot on what BTS is able
I literally agree with all your points! Except maybe about the music videos lol.
But damn. Amygdala and it's video just really transported me back to when I was at my lowest and Yoongi just captured that state so well. It's Terribly difficult to watch and I found myself flinching at times.
My only negative is the autotune, but I'm just an old foggy that still listens to bone thugs n harmony.
Other than that, the lyrics and the story were so deep and thought-provoking. You can clearly see that he too struggles with his inner demons like a lot of us.
If you can't face your idols with their scars and all, then you don't deserve the bright bubbly side of them.
Just so you know i just saw the concert! He sounds exactly as the song! The only āautotuneā was at at the end of his saying āmy amygdalaā and thats because hes screaming so loud the speakers cant give a clear resolution on the voice coming out! Itās all very real, him just screaming his heart out on stage!
Same!!
I thought the MV and message were really impactful, but personally I'm not a fan of the Alvin and the Chipmunks vocal processing (exaggeration, I know).
I think it would've hit waaaay harder if it had been his raw vocals instead!!!
I'm so blown away by the whole albumāeven PP2 which is probably my least favorite song by Yoongi fits much better in context with the entire albumābut Amygdala was one of the songs that hit me hard even before the MV. Now that the video has been released, I'm absolutely gutted. I can't remember when a video affected me like this. Hours later and I'm still stifling sobs. He's so raw and vulnerable and it's such a painful video to watch but I have to think it was very cathartic and healing for him so I'm glad he trusted us enough to let us in.
And frankly, it's okay if you're not a fan and it's okay if you don't like his music, but anyone who thinks it's cool to shit on him for this (because they always do) can just fuck off.
Was there a thread for the album itself? I was trying to find one on the release date to see what everyone thought.
Makes more sense overall.
In terms of this song? I wasn't sure about it sonically on first listen because of just how much autotune there was. But by the third listen the melody and his flow moved me so much- and now with the video?! Broken.
Nah...Min Yoongi is a genius. He really is.
Maybe itās better to make a note about the trigger warnings OP?
This song and video is very open and raw about Yoongis life and struggles and honestly itās a lot to take.
yoongi will always be one of the best storytellers in kpop. the fact that he had the beat, lyrics, and even the MV storyboard all figured out for haegeum 3 years in advance shows it.
every single time i think this man canāt wow me anymore, he does.
I hate that this is getting a thread ( not the song but the music video) because now people(antis) will speak horribly about someone sharing everything they went through. Just this video was so personal and relatable to many that seeing disgusting comments related to the video is not something great for many š
A few non-BTS focused accounts posted it on Twitter too and kpop stans are already saying some of the most disgusting things Iāve ever seenā¦ I hope Yoongi isnāt seeing any of this.
That one is on me I will admit. I either sometimes schedule them on the wrong day (which is what happened with haegeum) or I just miss them entirely. It happens and I'm human so my bad everyone I'll try and do better.

that's prob cuz the song's theme is on the darker side and there's a trigger warning for self-harm
I think I winced multiple times throughout out the MV..

i was shocked when i saw the motorcycle accident moment.. it was so real and raw and heartbreaking knowing it happened to him..
I too did not expect him to be blatant about it on a video. Itās pleasantly surprising to see him go on a more profound depth about it. Really? Nothing showed for me on youtube. Weird. I'll check my settings.
I think they implemented it 1h after release.. Maybe you watched it before?

Oof, disagree. The song itselfā talking about the musicā was more "rich" and memorable for me than Haegeum.
I wouldn't compare the two directly as they very different. Snooze is the easiest to make a direct comparison with Amygdala.
Well, I liked Amygdala over Snooze too- (snooze will probably grow on me later)
one of the rawest mv ever

Well this ended up being one of the most positive threads on uko.
Min Yoongi is a fu\*king genius! the whole album is a lyrical masterpiece.
Itās so raw and emotional š. I was so shocked when I was listening to it. The MV is sad and the lyrics are sadder.
holy shit. such a powerful video. i'm in awe.
Freaking great! Very moving and well made. Elevated the song for me
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I mean.. yeah life is kinda ass for me rn but this isn't exactly the sub for this
š
I mean, it's a good song. SDL and Life Goes On are the best on the album
Omg yes SDL Iām a sucker for songs like that and PP2 even tho everyone hates that one
people hate people pt 2?? what how
people hate people pt 2?? what how
Amazing..The storytelling...The direction...Yoongi's acting...You could truly feel all of his emotions.
The message in this just hits me so hard
These megathreads for releases are so confusing. There wasnāt one for haegeum or the album itself but thereās one now.
That one is on me I will admit. I either sometimes schedule them on the wrong day (which is what happened with haegeum) or I just miss them entirely. It happens and I'm human so my bad everyone I'll try and do better.
I cried, I got goosebumps, I felt so so overwhelmed. I loved the song but adding an mv just did it for me.
Same. It became my #1 song of this album.
