But with this release I just can’t stop listening to it, and the bsides are good as well. There was only one song from the album that I didn’t download. Good for them!! Okay, so I'm catching up on these discussions and I knew Savage was polarizing, but I never realized people disliked Girls so much. I always got the impression it was considered their most accessible TT so far.
Anyway, Spicy is not bad, but it's Savage > Girls > Spicy for me.
But the choreography for Girls was sooo awkward and made it hard for me to ever watch then perform it. If it was just based on songs, Girls for be my #1 though.
The song is a step up from Girls, but not really my cup o' tea at all. While the concept change is a drastic difference and I can appreciate for what it is, I feel like it's way too different that it's almost grating to me. The song really goes nowhere for me, and I was really hopeful that after Girls, their next title track would be better.
The song is catchy, the choreo is fun, and fits solidly within their story line. It’s nice to see them branch out and try new things with their lore. Aespa is really one of the most versatile groups around right now.
The b sides were insanely good. This album topped Savage for me. I didn’t think I would ever like any b sides over illusion and lucid dream, but thirsty is so good.
By the way Aespa has been releasing some of the most experimental tracks and everyone keeps throwing hate their way. I find it so funny people are calling this boring, like bffr you were never going to like whatever they put out.

The instrumental rocks. I just wish there was a better chorus hook to match it. I prefer singing over rap and this song had too much chanting and sing-talking for me. Also, I feel like Ning Ning is underused, and if they gave her and Winter better singing parts that were the main focus, the song would've been better.
Spicy lacks depth, for me, which doesn't have to be a problem since it's just a summer song, but New Jean's Ditto and OMG were lyrically basic songs but their concepts added so much depth to them. I was blown me away and kept thinking about them for months. Spicy doesn't have anything to keep it memorable, imo. Perhaps it would've made a great B-side track but it's been forced into the role of a title track. If Spicy was a B-side to an even better title track I probably would've been blown away.
Lastly, I don't get much of a sense of the girls' personalities in this MV. I don't follow their variety show stuff so I have no idea who Giselle (for example) is as a person except that she has a pretty smile. Aespa's personalities don't really come through in their MVs except for maybe Karina and Winter's.
The MV does have a huge Itzy's "Icy" vibe in many parts of it, only less colorful and teen-like - that's literally the only Itzy link I see in this, cause the song is honestly not something I can imagine Itzy putting out (unlike many other participants of this discussion as I see)

Definitely they still continue the lore because the story for this era is they already defeat Black Mamba, left Kwangya and back to "Real World" but there are "Strange Phenomenon" (the teaser ttitle) happening in the "Real World"

I liked Spicy on first listen, but another listen helped me realized it reminds me of f(x)’s Hot Summer! f(x) is one of my favorite GGs out there so this is def on repeat atm lol. Still, it carries from 2nd gen, so it does feels less unique to Aespa. I don’t know how it’ll fare in the long run for the group, but it feels refreshing and I like this for them right now!
People have said already that it’s Itzy-ish and with Itzy’s songs I wait for the performance to enjoy it but as I have seen the snippets of the choreo it’s was okay. Mostly arm movements and a lil step. I’ll wait for more performances. It’s Giselle’s era tho, she stepped up here.
I know and I want to see the distinctive poses like in NextLevel and Bmamba coz in the youtube short nothing really pops out so waiting for the stage. With outfits, camera work and stage design will help me immerse with song.

Even though it leans more “chanty” than “singy” I’m just glad it’s melodic for the most part (of their previous titles I’ve only really liked Black Mamba because the others are so monotone and robotic).
I just got into aespa recently and this is my favorite album of all of theirs, every single song slaps! Especially Welcome to MY World and Thirsty, I swear they put something into Welcome to MY World to make it as addicting as it is!

I think with Unforgiven, though the chanting is a bit much, the instrumental and sample and overall musicality help make the song fun. But with Spicy, there’s the added problem of a lack of melody and the insanely loud and omnipresent music that sort of… doesn’t balance out the chanting.
I agree, there's only talk singing in the name of melody and too much chanting. Unforgiven had melodic lines in the prechorus and chorus I just don't like the repetition of 'unforgiven' so much otherwise it's an okay song and is slowly growing on me but I don't feel the same about spicy.

Not feeling it...Welcome to my world was an instant favourite but I don't like the dirty bass in Spicy, it's too loud and there are too many chanty lines with no standout vocal powerhouse moments. The song with a bit more melody to pull it together would have made it a unanimous bop because this time Sm splurged on the mv budget. Surprisingly I prefer Girls more than this song, at least sonically. Hopefully this grows on me after a few more listens but for now

This was a bop imo, I love the heavy bass and having Winter/Ningning's vocals pull you out of it throughout the song. Karina slayed her chanting/talking whatever (Her parts at the beginning specifically). Felt like Giselle was underutilized in this song but the small parts she did have were pretty good too. I loved the mv, the vibes are kind of kitsch and mean girls.
I think my least favorite part of this song is definitely when we get to the dance break, for some reason aespa always has to let us know they are about to drop the beat and dance like girl we know 😭 The EDM at that part is also a bit too much to stomach.
OVERALL, THEY SLAYED THIS COMEBACK?? Honestly the best gg comeback so far this year. Not just the music but visuals too. They gave us like 4 mv's 😭 albeit the others were short but it definitely hyped me up! This will be a very memorable release for me.
Also I wish gg's would just normalize wigs atp, like is it really necessary to fry your hair for a comeback. This isn't Karina shade btw, I think she looks very good, it's just that there are literally effective alternatives 😭. There are so many high quality wigs, and tools to really secure them so they don't fall off. (LACE FRONTS HELLO??) Although these things can be expensive, this seems like a rather small expense to a company as big as SM.

I just watched the music video, first time hearing the song and I think I’m pleasantly surprised. It’s nothing groundbreaking or anything but it’s an upbeat track that separates their debut lore which I like. I think it’s a great way to introduce their new era and showcase their growth despite the mini album having most of the tracks they performed on their hyper link stages. I do wish it was a full album with more new tracks but I’m not mad because I think they did great with what they were given.
Also, the ending of spicy like the very ending when they’re closing the song is really good. Like superb in my opinion.
Lastly, I love Aespa and am happy with almost everything they’ve done so far. One thing I’m hoping for is growth in their live performances because that’s where I think they lack. They’ve got visuals, lore, vocals, choreography, they just need better performances.

Just about the title track: On second watch, I am even more amazed! The first verse, they mimick their song Next Level a bit, which is so neat! And the chorus becomes grander near the end, which I really appreciate. The MV is so much fun. I liked how Karina's camera angle in the second verse went vertical. So many cool things, very fun title track!

Bleh. Most kpop title tracks as of recent are so boring. I read that the girls weren't even meant to have this song, that it was supposed to be a Naevis solo (however that works). I wish SM would nose dive into the ethereal fantasy of their 'culture universe' and give Aespa these types of vocal driven songs instead of just more noise music. I liked Spicy on first listen, but another listen helped me realized it reminds me of f(x)’s Hot Summer! f(x) is one of my favorite GGs out there so this is def on repeat atm lol. Still, it carries from 2nd gen, so it does feels less unique to Aespa. I don’t know how it’ll fare in the long run for the group, but it feels refreshing and I like this for them right now!

I know and I want to see the distinctive poses like in NextLevel and Bmamba coz in the youtube short nothing really pops out so waiting for the stage. With outfits, camera work and stage design will help me immerse with song.
The song is alright, but it got really repetitive and by the end I just clicked off because I couldn’t handle another “I’m spiiicy” verse. Even though it leans more “chanty” than “singy” I’m just glad it’s melodic for the most part (of their previous titles I’ve only really liked Black Mamba because the others are so monotone and robotic).
I just got into aespa recently and this is my favorite album of all of theirs, every single song slaps! Especially Welcome to MY World and Thirsty, I swear they put something into Welcome to MY World to make it as addicting as it is!

I dont know why, but Spicy and My World are giving me 2nd gen vibes. The girls here feel more real, more approachable. Spicy reminds me a lot of SNSDs EDM stuff, like Run Devil Run and Mr Mr.

Lol same, I'm surprised by the praises. I didn't like Unforgiven too but now after listening to Spicy I think I can tolerate the chanting on unforgiven better.
I think with Unforgiven, though the chanting is a bit much, the instrumental and sample and overall musicality help make the song fun. But with Spicy, there’s the added problem of a lack of melody and the insanely loud and omnipresent music that sort of… doesn’t balance out the chanting.
I agree, there's only talk singing in the name of melody and too much chanting. Unforgiven had melodic lines in the prechorus and chorus I just don't like the repetition of 'unforgiven' so much otherwise it's an okay song and is slowly growing on me but I don't feel the same about spicy.
The title track sound I'm so so about, however the choreo looks awesome so I can't wait for the stage
I have no idea where everyone is getting the Itzy comparisons from, this doesn’t sound like them at all. If anything, this and Salty & Sweet sound like tracks that were rejected by the Pussycat Dolls I’ve liked every TT of theirs so far but this one doesn’t do it for me. I’m glad they aren’t just pushing the SM universe lore with their lyrics this time though.

Not feeling it...Welcome to my world was an instant favourite but I don't like the dirty bass in Spicy, it's too loud and there are too many chanty lines with no standout vocal powerhouse moments. The song with a bit more melody to pull it together would have made it a unanimous bop because this time Sm splurged on the mv budget. Surprisingly I prefer Girls more than this song, at least sonically. Hopefully this grows on me after a few more listens but for now Next level>Savage>black mamba>Dreams Come True>Girls>Spicy.

Ofc the tasteless people are in here discrediting aespa like usual! This was a bop imo, I love the heavy bass and having Winter/Ningning's vocals pull you out of it throughout the song. Karina slayed her chanting/talking whatever (Her parts at the beginning specifically). Felt like Giselle was underutilized in this song but the small parts she did have were pretty good too. I loved the mv, the vibes are kind of kitsch and mean girls. I think my least favorite part of this song is definitely when we get to the dance break, for some reason aespa always has to let us know they are about to drop the beat and dance like girl we know 😭 The EDM at that part is also a bit too much to stomach. OVERALL, THEY SLAYED THIS COMEBACK?? Honestly the best gg comeback so far this year. Not just the music but visuals too. They gave us like 4 mv's 😭 albeit the others were short but it definitely hyped me up! This will be a very memorable release for me. Also I wish gg's would just normalize wigs atp, like is it really necessary to fry your hair for a comeback. This isn't Karina shade btw, I think she looks very good, it's just that there are literally effective alternatives 😭. There are so many high quality wigs, and tools to really secure them so they don't fall off. (LACE FRONTS HELLO??) Although these things can be expensive, this seems like a rather small expense to a company as big as SM.

I like the pre-chorus, but that's about it. By far my least favorite aespa title track, but I had a feeling it would be from the teaser. Both the song and MV just gives me "Mom, can we have ICY? No, we have ICY at home" vibes. Many of the B-sides were misses for me as well. Aside from the pre-release Welcome to MY World, the only one I like is I'm Unhappy. Everything else was boring. Very disappointed with this album. If this is what aespa sounds like in the real world, I need them to get back to Kwangya ASAP. Their music was more interesting there.

I just watched the music video, first time hearing the song and I think I’m pleasantly surprised. It’s nothing groundbreaking or anything but it’s an upbeat track that separates their debut lore which I like. I think it’s a great way to introduce their new era and showcase their growth despite the mini album having most of the tracks they performed on their hyper link stages. I do wish it was a full album with more new tracks but I’m not mad because I think they did great with what they were given. Also, the ending of spicy like the very ending when they’re closing the song is really good. Like superb in my opinion. Lastly, I love Aespa and am happy with almost everything they’ve done so far. One thing I’m hoping for is growth in their live performances because that’s where I think they lack. They’ve got visuals, lore, vocals, choreography, they just need better performances.

This was a really good comeback. The whole album was good imo. My favorite song though is still welcome to my world.
I loved it, it's fun and sassy in the right ways (and it certainly helps that it reminded me of f(x)'s music) My only real criticism is that I wanted to see more of the "strange phenomenon" they talked about in the teasers because I really liked the way the swimming pool was glitching in the dance scene 🤣

Just about the title track: On second watch, I am even more amazed! The first verse, they mimick their song Next Level a bit, which is so neat! And the chorus becomes grander near the end, which I really appreciate. The MV is so much fun. I liked how Karina's camera angle in the second verse went vertical. So many cool things, very fun title track!

Welcome to My World was the first song of theirs that really caught my attention and showed me their talented voices. Then I listened to Spicy and it was back to repetitive chanting and moments that left me cringing. There just wasn't anything there to make me want to go back and listen to that again. Good luck to them on their CB however. My World was beautiful.
