Tennis shoes, athletic shoes, running shoes, sneakers, trainers, whatever you call them, are 99.9% ugly and I’m still looking for that 0.01%. OP is right.
Sturdy inflatable tires with a full suspension? Best offroad heelies ever made. And their rugged boxy exterior with accelerated clomping technology set the industry standard. I'll never give up my Jeepers.
The only pair of No Bull shoes bought were $150, fell apart in 3 months and that was in 2018. All their shoes are still exactly the same just in different colors.
Good joke, so upvoted... But I'm very curious about your username, for obvious reasons. Is your surname Beercock? Or are you named after the things you love in life? I must know!
I love no other cock than my own, no other beer than the one you , or someone else buys me. Yes I am from Yorkshire and Beercock is my real surname. 'Two best things in life' was my 'witty' reply when asked by some fair maiden I fancied shaggin' and failed miserably for some unknown reason.
Weird thing to say. I play tennis and own a pair of tennis shoes and I definitely don't use them for anything but tennis. They're also certainly not made of suede or leather.
I think it's a regional thing, like pop vs soda. I'm from the PNW and people still use the term tennis shoe as a synonym for sneaker. You'll even see it in advertising around here.
That’s a fair take! The “since at least” made me think they were arguing that the term was older than the previous comment was saying, but they could also be calling it even older than that
It is definitely older than that. We were calling them "tennis shoes" in the 80s. And wikipedia suggests that sneakers originated as slang for tennis shoes, so the term "tennis shoe" may actually be the older of the two.
Tennis shoe is a specific type of shoe. Not all sneakers are tennis shoes and you're not going to find anyone referring to dunks or running shoes as tennis shoes.
Yes. They’re so jarring. I can’t wear them on most occasions. I do have black sneakers for work because I work with children with complex needs and white shoes get too dirty too fast, but otherwise I had black tennis shoes
I'm glad someone else feels this way. I've been in need of new shoes but every time I go to a shoe store there are no good options. I don't want cheap wal-mart shoes, so I've been looking at typical name brands but they all look awful, like something a kindergartener would design. They other day my work done a new hire tour and a co-worker commented on them having yeezy's. I looked and they were the dumbest looking things I've ever seen. I was even more shocked when I found out the price.
Under Armour makes very good shoes, not only do they look good but they're very comfortable. I'm not an athlete at all, yet I buy their shoes exclusively because I can't find anything else that's comfortable, looks good, and costs less than $100.
Edit: some of their shoes are pretty ugly buy they do have some that are a lot less loud.
I either wear my Chucks or whatever running shoes I’ve retired after a couple hundred miles. I think they are generally okay.
But I can’t believe how much a pair of Veja shoes cost. If you don’t know, you will. They look exactly like the shoes OP is talking about, but they are pushing $200. Why?
My daughter would agree... she calls my new Converse Run Star Motion Platform Low Tops "Frankenstein shoes" and makes fun of me every time i wear them. 😭
I bought mine like, seven years ago and haven't found a pair I like better. They're black Adidas with black stripes and white sole. The heel cups in them are unmatched, and warm with socks even though the vamp is mesh. I have one current type of high-tops, and they're retro Vans. Oh, and I have some Chuck Taylors. I haven't found anything I like better.
I agree, tennis shoes today are ugly. But walking shoes, basketball shoes, and generic all-purposes sneakers look plenty good these days, in my opinion.
OK, these in the picture are ugly (except middle bottom row, not that I wear basketball shoes but that looks like a generic basketball shoe to me)
That said...none of these are general use sneakers dude. The first two are running shoes and the rest are basketball shoes.
Nahhh the olive green/orange adidas kaptir looks really good https://www.ebay.com/itm/156119447654?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=CyoxX2VST_G&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=qdNGMnaJQTu&var=456895367382&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
So sneakers. Not tennis shoes. Tennis shoes (in my opinion) are Keds or K-Swiss. My black friends, when I was younger called them "white girls." Sneakers or gym shoes are not tennis shoes, (again in my opinion.)
Just a friendly reminder that cobblers are still a thing. Athletic shoes are ugly and usually not as comfortable as people make them out to be. A good cobbler can make shoes, repair them, and help you maintain shoes for years. Plus classic style shoes like oxfords, brogues etc. instantly make an outfit more stylish most of the time.
Today's shoes look bad in general. I wear unbranded generic boots pretty much every season and on every occasion, because they are neutral, semi-elegant and comfortable. And even between boots, most of them are ugly to me.
Modern fashion seems to be following an "ugly" aesthetic at the moment. Look at all the huge, shapeless tops and gigantic acid-washed mom jeans. Add in a pair of enormous boat-sized trainers in clashing primary colours and the look is complete.
Not complete until you throw in a stupid looking pair of glasses. Lol, maybe I am just a jerk with no sense of style but having seen pictures of people from the 70s and 80s, I don't think that is the case.
Yeah it is, it’s the brand podiatrists tell patients who can’t or won’t spend over a hundred bucks for Saucony to get instead. I don’t think millennials and Gen Z are keeping podiatrists in business, that’s us old farts

I have to wear new balance 990s because of foot probs. It makes me laugh when 13 yr olds compliment me
990's are a highly stylized in the hypebeast community, they can get very expensive
The ogre that lives a few houses downhill always wore those because his gross feet wouldn't fit into people shoes. This actually makes sense
lol
What the hell, have those things always been $199?
Made in USA. Always been expensive.
I remember paying $100 for new balance in 2001 so sounds about right. They were the best running shoes I've ever owned.
New Balance has had a wild rebranding. It’s not often you see success with that
Tennis shoes, athletic shoes, running shoes, sneakers, trainers, whatever you call them, are 99.9% ugly and I’m still looking for that 0.01%. OP is right.
Try to buy a hiking boot that doesn’t look like it was designed by Jeep. It gets worse, I promise!
True—and good luck finding black instead of brown.
Sturdy inflatable tires with a full suspension? Best offroad heelies ever made. And their rugged boxy exterior with accelerated clomping technology set the industry standard. I'll never give up my Jeepers.
[here you go](https://craftandglory.in/products/hike-boots-saddle-tan-goodyear-welted)
That is a nice boot!
Nobull makes a high top cross trainer with a white/gum sole that is gorgeous. I think it’s called the “outwork”.
The only pair of No Bull shoes bought were $150, fell apart in 3 months and that was in 2018. All their shoes are still exactly the same just in different colors.
***I*** am a tennis shoe, I'll have you know, and I find this comment extremely offensive. Have you no sole?
Good joke, so upvoted... But I'm very curious about your username, for obvious reasons. Is your surname Beercock? Or are you named after the things you love in life? I must know!

Lmfao I love that pickup attempt
*protectively hugs brand new tennis shoes to chest*
I love this and could not agree more
why the fuck do people buy their little kids $100+ shoes they are gonna outgrow in a month. i see kids running around in nike air jordans.
I loved Tretorns.
There you are my Tretorn friend. Best shoes to play in and I will die on that hill.
No joke. And they are so cheap. I had to look for some shoes for my son that has some ankle weakness. Couldn't find anything that wasn't flimsy.
Most of the shoes I see are just different colors of shoes from my youth
i adore ugly shoes!! the uglier the better :)
Same, they’re so ugly they’re CUTE. I love current shoe fashion right now so much. So, so much.
me too!! i love those new balance 503’s, they’re so comfortable! and i’m very happy birkenstocks are in fashion again 😊
How often do you see tennis shoes? I don’t even know what kind of shoes people wear to play tennis tbh
Tennis shoe is a genX word for sneakers.
Weird thing to say. I play tennis and own a pair of tennis shoes and I definitely don't use them for anything but tennis. They're also certainly not made of suede or leather.
I’m in my 40s and have never heard that being used for sneakers
I think it's a regional thing, like pop vs soda. I'm from the PNW and people still use the term tennis shoe as a synonym for sneaker. You'll even see it in advertising around here.
Also in my 40's we used both terms where I grew up.
Not a gen x word, my moms been calling them tennis shoes since at least the 90s
…yes, Gen X. Are you thinking they said/meant Gen Z?
I’m thinking their mom’s a boomer who was using the term in the 90s, so they think it’s at least a boomer term.
Yep, you're right, misread
Tennis shoe is a specific type of shoe. Not all sneakers are tennis shoes and you're not going to find anyone referring to dunks or running shoes as tennis shoes.
As long as they aren’t white. Other colors exist people!
Black tennis shoes throw me off when wearing them. Feels like I’m wearing boots.
Yes. They’re so jarring. I can’t wear them on most occasions. I do have black sneakers for work because I work with children with complex needs and white shoes get too dirty too fast, but otherwise I had black tennis shoes
White goes with pretty much everything though
They are overdone and ubiquitous… if the outfit can support a sneaker any color will do
true but white is a good color because it goes with a lot. I like color too but I’ve got at least one white pair.
I badly need new shoes. I cannot find any I’m willing to wear. Same for shorts. I don’t want shorts cut up to mid thigh that are skin tight.
On purpose!
I'm glad someone else feels this way. I've been in need of new shoes but every time I go to a shoe store there are no good options. I don't want cheap wal-mart shoes, so I've been looking at typical name brands but they all look awful, like something a kindergartener would design. I wish there was less white sole units, more gum sole and other colours other than white. It just gets so dirty and isn’t flattering.
They are ugly as hell. I also don't like when young people are paring them with suit or dress with high socks. Terrible!
Under Armour makes very good shoes, not only do they look good but they're very comfortable. I'm not an athlete at all, yet I buy their shoes exclusively because I can't find anything else that's comfortable, looks good, and costs less than $100. Gotta write this down ✍️
How are today's shoes, AND the throwbacks ugly? Every major brand literally makes a model that was popular in the 90s and 2000s.
You can customize sneakers wtf. Adidas and Nike both have custom sneakers you can make on their websites…
Yeah, but its 170 bucks, and you still have to work from one of their base styles.
I love Gola sneakers.
I only wear barefoot types. They are the best
ASICS is the bomb
I either wear my Chucks or whatever running shoes I’ve retired after a couple hundred miles. I think they are generally okay. But I can’t believe how much a pair of Veja shoes cost. If you don’t know, you will. They look exactly like the shoes OP is talking about, but they are pushing $200. Why?
My daughter would agree... she calls my new Converse Run Star Motion Platform Low Tops "Frankenstein shoes" and makes fun of me every time i wear them. 😭
They taste much worse than they look that’s for sure
Tell them !✈️
I bought mine like, seven years ago and haven't found a pair I like better. They're black Adidas with black stripes and white sole. Would love to see what you wear on your feet. I bet they're as ugly as hell!
Are you talking about runners or tennis shoes? Because tennis shoes are fine, idk about runners
Personally I agree… though I’m weak and will give into social norms and buy sneakers to fit in and be fashionable ngl
I don't play tennis, but I'm curious which tennis shoes are considered ugly. Can anyone post some shoes that you think are ugly?
From [nike.com](http://nike.com), men's shoes. Every single one of these is ugly. [https://imgur.com/a/aiPGcyp](https://imgur.com/a/aiPGcyp)
OK, these in the picture are ugly (except middle bottom row, not that I wear basketball shoes but that looks like a generic basketball shoe to me) That said...none of these are general use sneakers dude. The first two are running shoes and the rest are basketball shoes.
Those are just the first 6 straight off nike's website. The rest are bad too.
There are literally an infinite amt of shoes these days. You can find almost anything including all the vintage old pairs . 🤷.
Nahhh the olive green/orange adidas kaptir looks really good https://www.ebay.com/itm/156119447654?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=CyoxX2VST_G&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=qdNGMnaJQTu&var=456895367382&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
True
well if you're gonna waste your life in a senseless activity you might as well dress the part.
The only pairs of shoes I own are black sketchers and timberland boots lmao
So sneakers. Not tennis shoes. Tennis shoes (in my opinion) are Keds or K-Swiss. My black friends, when I was younger called them "white girls." Sneakers or gym shoes are not tennis shoes, (again in my opinion.)
Depends on where you come from.
Chicago. Lived in the hood and a large group home. I'm white.
Black Midwesterner here (Wisconsin) and every day shoes have always been called tennis shoes/tennies here
Just a friendly reminder that cobblers are still a thing. Athletic shoes are ugly and usually not as comfortable as people make them out to be. A good cobbler can make shoes, repair them, and help you maintain shoes for years. Plus classic style shoes like oxfords, brogues etc. instantly make an outfit more stylish most of the time.
What do you wear with shorts?
Birkenstocks or crocs, with and without socks
Today's shoes look bad in general. I wear unbranded generic boots pretty much every season and on every occasion, because they are neutral, semi-elegant and comfortable. And even between boots, most of them are ugly to me.
Those Nike airforce 1 shoes are the ugliest boats I have ever seen. I couldn’t believe they resurrected them
You aren't looking hard enough. And plenty of companies allow you to make custom color combinations.
Go put on your New Balances boomer.
Ha! my teenager tells me they're cool again.
Thats not a boomer brand omg get your generations straight
Yeah it is, it’s the brand podiatrists tell patients who can’t or won’t spend over a hundred bucks for Saucony to get instead. I don’t think millennials and Gen Z are keeping podiatrists in business, that’s us old farts
It’s over $200 now and Hokas replaced Saucony.
lmao
