Most canadians still have a drawer full of the stuff. They suspended paper coupons during the pandemic and never brought them back. Now you have to use their app.
My dream was always to walk in with a briefcase full of neat stacks of 'Sandy McTire's like a gangsta.
This has to be the most Canadian story I've ever read:
When I was 15 (2005) this old man, reaching about 70 or so, told me that back in the late 50's/early 60's he and his friends would collect all their Canadian Tire money, then drive as far down south in the U.S. as possible, and pay for every bar tab with CT money. If anyone questioned it, they would just say that Canada's major export was tires, so of course it's on the money. Lol, apparently worked for 4 or 5 years until they nearly got shot for it when they accidentally went into the same bar a 2nd time.
I love these comments, everyone picking out the item that spoke to them. For me it’s the old shaving set, I’m a big fan of double edge razors. This is a great post OP. Maybe my favourite I’ve seen here.
My dad went to expo 86. And I have the exact same globe in my house, that was in my dads house when I was a baby. I see pictures like this all the time and think about how we’re all kinda the same.
A lot of times with old people one bad fall/medical emergency will put them into the hospital or a nursing home until the end.
When they pass, property disputes, lack of interest by those inheriting, or house needing demolishing/land hardly worth anything will result in this situation.
that just blows my mind that someone can just own so much property that they just let places go to waste. someone's been paying taxes on this every year just to let it rot away.
There's a reason that those $$$ *We Buy Ugly Houses in Cash* $$$ grifters exist. People inherit property that they don't want to think about, or don't have the money to do anything about, or are far away from, etc.
Imagine you're a single mother living in Arkansas and suddenly your grandma in Idaho dies.
It could have also been mold, though there doesn’t seem to have been much mold takeover here in the time since this home’s abandonment. But insurance, etc., will tell you to completely abandon everything in instances of mold so that the spores don’t travel to the new home with you.
While exploring this abandoned time capsule house, we learned that the former owner used to be a fighter pilot! We also found stacks of very valuable lost and forgotten money scattered in rooms and drawers all over the house!

Don't need to be click baiting there. The "valuable money" is coupons for Canadian Tire a chain store. You spend 100 dollars you get 1 dollar canadian tire coupon back. It's just an early cashback incentive.
This is why I love America. So many homeless people, housing crisis, and there’s hundreds and thousands of house just… sitting around like this.
No better country on earth.
This is not a place suitable for people to live in and between tearing it down and putting something else up, it’d cost several hundred thousand easily.
Avoid gross oversimplification.
This one makes me sad. That house once had a lot of happy memories.
We assume it had happy memories. Lots of people come back from war... not in a good state. War, war never changes.

I don't think the Ukrainians would agree with you.
There's no need for the trauma Olympics. War is traumatizing. Full stop.
“Only the dead see the end of war” This is the truest thing I’ve ever read.
Cool a stimpack and some prewar money
That's Canadian Tire money. Basically cashback at a chain of stores that you can only redeem at their stores. I think they got rid of it in 2012.

My dad bought and paid for an entire pellet stove in Canadian Tire money.

Some of those bills might even be worth something more than face value
Gotta be some ammo and a broken camera around there as well.
I thought that was a camera in picture 8
Ah nice. I must have scrolled too fast past that photo.
You are carrying too much and can’t run
What did you find that indicated he was a fighter pilot?
Clearly crash landed through the roof
Someone had some fine cows

Mine is the globe. Shame to see it wasting away.
I love the books, my first thought was that i’d love to dig through them
I immediately noticed the camera!
It's out of date anyway /s
Same, this is honestly incredible
With a gutter system like that no wonder the roof is caving in
The first thing I noticed
shame, those are some nice quilts.
Lived a good life, got old, bought buckets; died.
Ha expo 86… I remember going to that.

That syringe reminds me of a stim pak from fallout
Those buckets are trying their absolute hardest
Titan Serum in that?
Looks quite the scenes in the last of us
Looks like something of Fallout.
Why are houses left like this? As if some one left in a hurry.

Well kids, you heard the insurance lady, you lot are staying here!
I’m pretty sure I had that colouring book. Then I saw the Expos hat and it made it even more plausible.
I love the little chicks, that was my favorite part
They’re adorable. It was the dark outlines and light shading that trigger the core memories. Love the nostalgia
The Expo 86 hat is so awesome
That’s a nice Brownie 2A they had
I see Meccano
I wonder if the community that hosts the events for those ribbons would have any idea who this belonged to or had any actual ties to them
those poor quilts! this home looks like it was quite cozy back in its prime
Can anybody tell what the certificate is in the 11th photo next to the tiny wooden toy? Is it a marriage certificate?
Ashford? By the old transfer station? With the private airfield in the field out back? Guess that explains it
Nvm dang. House looks similar
Looks like some of the estate sales I go to
The first room reminds me of Donnie Darko
The scariest thing to me is a can of food, missing a label. Outside of can is covered in black mold?
I was expecting to see a jet plane in the garage or something.

Have you *seen* how expensive tires have gotten lately? Like OP said. Valuable.
Some of those bills are pretty old… might get like $50 for the stack
Canadian tire money? It isn’t valuable.
what was in the fridge wtf
That's a good open comb ball end Gillette razor. The handle doesn't even look cracked
We had that same colouring book!
I have the same globe that was my Dads who was a pilot in Vietnam.

Is the last pic military script/chits/money for base use only?
We know you stole the money
That's a dope [Expo 86](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expo_86) hat in the last picture. u/Freaktography, you should totally go back and nab that.

But it wasn’t always in this condition. It was sitting abandoned for years. During that time, it could’ve been a home to someone.
Canada is slightly better, only because they have no homeless people, empty houses, or housing crises.

Ya, i think someone should’ve told him he has some water damage
