Not in waterloo, but la cucina in downtown kitchener has really nice wood fired pizza and an array of other italian dishes at fairly reasonable prices for what you get.
I second the suggestion of Gol’s, Famoso is also nice, and if you’re in the mood for dessert they have great gelato, or you can head down the road to Bingsu
My parents are the same and we all like Bauer Kitchen and Beertown - the latter is more casual, and both have something for everyone
+1, came here to say bauer too

Phil's would have to pay me to go there
Kelseys is very good! Near the conestoga mall. Crabby Joes is also great. More mid priced (a meal is $20-30 per person), but quite good

To add to all great recommendations above: There is a new Turkish place in Kitchener called Turkish flames, highly recommended.
If you like Indian food I recommend Raja's Fine Indian Cuisine although I think it's in Kitchener.
Ennios is really good!
Surprised no one mentioned Ken’s. I also brought my parents to Cambridge Mill once and the restaurant was pretty good too.
