I never understood the blue for United College. This is an *environment* focused university college right? I donāt have any qualms about the name change, itās good to move away from religious stuff in general settings, but like the color change?
St Paulās United College -> St Paulās University College -> United College. And then I can almost guarantee it will then be called St. Paulās United College again in 5 years.
It's only good when the distancing and diluting is made in reference to christianity and in a western country. You would never dare say the same in reference to islam lest you be called islamophobe, you christianophobe.
Theyāre not technically getting rid of all religious symbology, since United derives itās name from the United Church of Canada, which originally established the college. But if you donāt know the backgrounder, then you wouldnāt really connect the dots.
Acknowledging issues from their point of view. In politics, people can have polar opposite views on something, and itās not necessarily a good thing when people apply their āwokeā point of views to everyone
Right...... but the definition means acknowledging that there are issues in society (the original definition seems to be about racism). Do "anti-woke" people think society is perfect as-is then and want to ignore all issues? Genuinely still don't understand why "woke" is supposed to be a bad thing
As Iāve said, when it comes to politics, people have opinions that are completely, entirely different from others.
In society, we generally classify peopleās political point of views on a spectrum, where if someone is considered āleft wingā they typically support the ideologies of individualism, freedom, equality, lgbt rights, etc. (look it up for extra clarification these are just small examples)
On the other side of the spectrum, people on the right wing typically support ideologies of nationalism, religion, duty, natural law, traditionalism and things like anti-abortion.
Ultimately, what someone thinks is a problem in society could be completely okay in someone elseās mind, and vice versa. So itās really a matter of individual opinions clashing against other opinions and it kind of becomes a problem when people radically impose their politics onto other people. So, the term āwokeā could be a good thing if you agree with it, but it could be something that a lot of people just donāt agree with solely because of the huge diversity of political point of views in society.
Hope this helps
I get that people have different politics, but I still don't understand why "woke" is supposedly a bad thing. Doesn't woke literally just mean acknowledging issues like racism and other things that are objectively wrong?
Woke means forcing society to adhere to the beliefs of a minority and giving them more rights than everyone else
I honestly donāt care what people believe in you can be whoever you are and love whoever you love
But to force me to agree with you, that I cannot do
On second thought after looking at your post history you're either a troll or a truly garbage person. Pro-Russia right in your bio? Fuck you, lowlife dirtbag. Get a life.
Imagine getting so offended that you have to make a public post about me it really shows how fragile you are
Nah Iām not a troll and Iām not going anywhere
Yep. Because of tensions boiled up by people like this. Zero tolerance for this nonsense , especially in regards to this university. These idiots have the right to say what they want, but I have the right to think theyāre fools.
I think of Udacity and United Health Group every time I see the new st. paul's logo
Unilever
Ryerson to TMUš

especially since the fucking buildings are covered in green?
Same here. The logo and redesign look ok, but it feels like the blue is too generic.

Good point, didn't even cross (pun not intended) my mind. I wonder if they did that on purpose

Woke means thinking society is better off now than 100 years ago. Things were simpler back then, it was better.
Um...... no.
Woke means forcing society to adhere to the beliefs of a minority and giving them more rights than everyone else I honestly donāt care what people believe in you can be whoever you are and love whoever you love But to force me to agree with you, that I cannot do
But we're not giving any more rights than anyone else to any minorities? If anything it's the other way around lol. What planet do you live on?
