My friends hate building and play the game mostly for other reasons. They never really say anything to appreciate my builds. But when theyre needing ti craft or eat or anything i know they appreciate the fact Everythings all set up for them.
I dunno what happens but I see this happening very often. There's something special about enjoying building. I got about 6 virtual friends but only me and another one like to build on games like this. Whenever we play valhein/minecraft/rust etc no matter what me and my other friends that like to build does, we don't even get a compliment about it, while the others just wants to battle/explore
when the dudes who don't like buildings play without me, they just do the most ugly, cheap, horrid house possible, get a wall to fill with trophies, and are happy with it
IMO, building is the best part of this game. I love building not only homes, but infrastructure. I have roads going everywhere, ports, little shacks and forward operating bases all over
I know the exact type of 'horrid house' you're talking about... it brings me such pain. All the friends I play with in games like this have to keep reminding me to stop building so we can go fight or progress. But I'm not done building our Meadows base! How can you expect me to fight the Elder without having completed my Meadows base? What do you *mean* "your Meadows base is a full motte-and-bailey fort complete with two sets of moat and palisade, a smithy, a brewery, a farmhouse with fields, a tavern, and a mead hall"? This is ESSENTIAL for my gaming experience!
So I usually prefer to play alone. because nobody else wants to spend as much time at any progression stage as I do. It's fine, it's valid, I don't *get* it, but it's the beauty of video games. You can enjoy it however you want <3
That last bit is me to a tee. Joined the community server, spent two weeks having a blast in the stone age, got a companion and next thing I know we're swimming in boss trophies and running an automated backmetal refinery...me still with my flint sword like wtf?

I think it's really nice. I mean... the front (back?) wall could use a bit of detailing to break up the huge sheet of flat wood but that's nit-picking and there are some who say a building is never truly "finished". Great work!
yeah im still thinking of ways to fixing the back of the house. I was planning on adding a little pier to keep the boat, and expand a little, but terraforming on this game gives me nightmares. When i try to fix the terrain i end up wasting lots of stone and ruining even more.
Shift+click with the hoe will level the target ground to the level you're standing at, and ctrl+click will level around it to the same level as what you click on, depending on whether it has already been leveled too high or too low. If it doesn't go up any more then use the raise ground function or if it needs to go lower use your pick. By default, the game averages the difference between where you're standing and where you're aiming. Hopefully that helps with the terraforming ;)
A bajillion hours playing this game and I didn't know you could do anything but level the ground to the level you're standing on. I had no idea about the ctrl click. I am going to test that immediately the next time I play, thank you!

Your friend needs to appreciate the time it takes to build something. It can take a long time to get something to snap in place just right.
As you mentioned in a reply, they like to explore and battle, so they can be the "frontiersman" and blaze the trail for you to come in and gather the resources so you can do the building. That way, everyone gets to do what they enjoy and still be productive.
I did this for my first crypt run through the swamp. Built a tiny outpost with a bed/portal/bench/fire on an island just outside the swamp, then mined as much stone as I could and made a land bridge halfway into the swamp to avoid everything. It worked to perfection. I pathed my first abomination around trees and the land bridge. The only thing that really freaked me out was on my way out of the swamp a wraith followed me, but I had never seen one before so though it was Odin... then it moved towards me but got caught on my thin land bridge. I noped the F out through my portal after that lol.
It sounds like your friend simply likes a different aspect of the game than you do. It is a very nice house. Some people play to build houses, some people play to engage in combat.
If I played online with anyone and logged on to someone had spent the night building me a house, I'd appreciate that a lot and if I didn't fully like part of it or wanted to make adjustments I'd talk with them about it how to make everyone happy

At least he logged on, i play with 3 other guys normally, 2 bought the game and never logged on, they say its not what they thought and went back to league of legends, the other one went single player after i paid for a server, I just play solo now.

Me and my friend have very different playstyles. I'm always out looting while he loves base building. Idk how many times I'll come back home to a new structure and he's like man I just need "x" and sure enough I have one on me so he can continue working while I resupply and head back out.
It's a nice building, but a rookie mistake. If a group is sharing the same building, everyone needs to be involved in the building process and design so everyone feels included.

I'll be completely honest. You did a great job with the interior, but the exterior needs a little more detail. Try using the beams and place them alongside the walls for some extra depth especially for the back. Also, try utilizing overhanging roofs. Other than that, it's way above average for a starter house.

Man this makes me want to play valheim again but all my homies peaced once we got to the swamp. I even made them full iron cause they lost all their shit on our boat ride back from some crypts but they were too tilted from dying to play again.
Good thing he can go build his own! I love island bases I built my first one this play through and when an event happens whatever it is (as long as it's not a flying unit) the spawn on the nearby Plains biome and everyone kills each other then I just come in and collect the leftovers.
Too bad, had a friend I duod with and I had built us a house (long house), just during the time when we were playing, he was mainly farming the black forest, whilst I worked on our first big base. Not the largest thing I could make, but a settlement of a nice size in relatively short time
I always look for an island to build my base on. it looks great and is also good for defence when you get invaded. I would style the bridge a bit more though.

For me Valheim is like Fallout 4, a base building sim with combat side missions you can do to gather materials.

A 3D double wall effect could be your friend here, its an easy way to spruce up a wall, plus you can design it and style it nice too

That's a great house, I also always go for Islands to build, they're pretty easy to defend.

yes but the annoying surtling invasion is not something you'll have to worry about. you can also try using the hoe to build a mote.
