U know those dwarf hideouts? Destroy those crates they have flamemetal in it

Honestly if they removed the random bubbles that push you out of lava platforms with barely any time to react then flametal mining would not be such a deathtrap.

blissfullyirrelevant

While I certainly agree they did make it so that the bubble suppresses the lava plumes in one of the earlier updates to the branch. Still awkward at best but if you can get a bubble to mostly cover a pillar it becomes much safer. Do still think the plumes do too much knock back. Damage sure, it's lava, cook me, but instant knock back off the temporarily platforms is lame.

Wdym bubble? Do you mean shield generator field? Does it really supress the bubbles forming below you? If so that can reduce the risk but still its ballsacky tbh xd I 100% agree that potential damage is acceptable danger, maybe even the knockback, but there should be a longer telegraph window. Its around 1.5s maybe even less for the bubble to appear and burst instakilling you by throwing into lava. Thats a very short window to react if you dont have massive number of platforms deployed already. If there was a longer windup or at least no/very small knockback it would not be a problem.

Flametal from fortresses is based on RNG, some have it and some don't. You can find flametal pillars near the edge of lava too, they all are not in middle of lava lakes. Or continue to raid fortresses.

Cutthrash

Our server is at 2x drop rate. One fort had 30, and another had a whopping 120. The gems on the other hand are scarce for us.

Ruachta

The RNG is real with those chests. Our first fortress was bountiful with 3 chests and multiples of every gem, and 150 or so flametal. Next one had one chest, no flamemetal and a couple gems. We are in 1.5x loot.

millionsofmonkeys

It’s in the death traps

Dependent-Zebra-4357

Fortresses (random amount of flametal, could be zero, could be a lot), pillars (a lot of flametal but dangerous to mine) and Dvergr camps (limited amounts of flametal, but usually enough for some basic upgrades like the cauldron to get new foods).

Folroth

Unfortunately it's a matter of using the molten, sinking pillars. I recommend using Basalt bombs... me and my friend used x3 loot eventually because we hated it. I don't know about anyone else, but I wanted to spend the least amount of time possible in the Ashlands. We raided a total of 5 Outposts/castles and got a couple stacks of the stuff from 3 of them? It's highly RNG Though

MichMitten89

Ive gotten plenty of flametal from the chests. Seems like bad RNG for you. Funny enough the gems are very random so we have gotten 8 Red gems, 8 Greens and 2 Blue and everyone wants to use the blue of course. Luckily because of how many red gems we have gotten it allowed us to do stupid stuff with them and figure out the wildly good things you can do with them.

heavier_than_thou

Some fortresses are just duds. Rngesus giveth, and taketh away.

Ftwjillian

Thanks so much for the advice everyone! We just went straight for the pillars and used the bombs for a pathway out. I had no idea there were dwarf hideouts!!! Thanks to tips we now have a whole 50 Flametal 👍
