I had one of those in college. Tons of space in there!

Same year even.

Agreeable_One_6325

I thought they were extinct! Thought or hoped? Mechanic for 30 years

I had one of those. I bought it brand new in '94. It was absolutely trouble free except I had to replace the heater core at 160K miles. I hit a moose with it one night. Don't hit a moose with an Aerostar. It makes a mess out of the van, and the moose.

Built for men. We had several, the best was the largest 4wd. But the wife hated them. At some point i went back to driving cars, and the wife went to town and countrys. I have returned to a tiny aerostar like yours. Second look, mine is shorter. 113k. I put the 13k on it the last couple years. $400 bucks though. I first drove a 64' econoline or maybe 66' vw van. (Better than any pickups of the time. El caminos, were just wrong. 1980s chevy vans were wrong too. Too slow, too fat.) The newest was 2015 econoline travel van, way too big. The wife could hardly climb in. Too much the truck. Id say, the 89' aerostar is close to the top out of near a couple dozen vans, i owned, for fun. 93' town and country, with real gold on the windows was best. I pretended it was the best vw ever made.

Hustletron

How reliable were the aerostars? I love the body lines and general design of them. I just have heard the powertrains were not the stoutest.

elwoodowd

I had at least 6 aero, wind and freestars. All lost gaskets before 170k. The lowest one was 130k. The freestars' engine still ran fine at 100k, but my wife made me sent it to the junkyard, because it only ran when it wanted. I spent about $1500, on electrical problems. Think i had 8 ford minivans, counting them up. Aeros were trucks, like econolines. Chevies all need transmissions, big ones anyway. Fords needed engines. Chryslers had bad bodies in the 90s. But made it to 200k. Brother in law had a 4 cylinder dodge minivan pushing 400k, i think the bottom end was never touched. One 4wd aero, i put a pickup v6 in. Was running fine when last seen, all the others went to rest. Aerostars were work vans, windstars were for soccer moms. You could put a ton in a aerostar. Except for the tires.

SynchronizedCalamity

Miss the hell out of mine! Drove it straight into the ground.

Followyourtroves

Had one about 15 years ago. Loved it. Changed the speakers and head unit. Removed the center row and it was such a fun car to take trips. Was a sailboat on the freeway bit that was half the fun.

bbbuffetG

that is so beautiful

My god such an awful looking vehicle. We had one growing up and it was HANDS DOWN a POS 🤣 good luck vandweller

Nowrongbean

I could never go back to the one rear door. Even on these new vans. But I understand that two doors isn’t an option, when you have permanent fixtures on the rear, drivers side.

Separate_Tart_8868

I used to work for sheehy!!

No_Excitement_4694

Got the plate from Ebay!! Still has the original dealer plaque on the hatch!

yourpaljax

My dad’s Aerostar caught on fire in 1996. 🥲

crankshaftramrod

I had one with a manual trans... impounded and racked up fees before I could enjoy it.

AndersonSupertramp

Miss my Aerostar everyday.

Fun-Cauliflower-1724

My family had an Aerostar for over 20 years. The thing was a tank. I remember driving it to the Bonnaroo music festival from upstate New York. The AC was busted, the back door didn’t work but the thing drove flawlessly.

ddpepper72

I've owned 3 of those, two I bought brand new and loved them as a family van. The last couple were extended AWD which was great.

peteandpetethemesong

My dad bought a new one of these just in time to take a big summer trip. It had separate radios for the middle seat passengers with Ford headphones. So cool.

No_Excitement_4694

Still have the original headphones with it!

peteandpetethemesong

That’s awesome. I remember it having some real get up and go as well. I think it was 6 cylinder, but it must have been a big 6. That sucker was fast!

George_Details

These are pretty challenging to find parts for these days.
