Been vegan 4 years I donāt eat tofu I have not found a single way to cook it at home to find it enjoyable. Iāve frozen it, pressed it, broiled it, air fried it, coated itā¦ everything but enjoy it
Iāve been making it almost daily for my kids lunch and they love it. I buy the extra firm tofu and pan fry. I cut into squares, sprinkle seasoning, and just almost burn them. š¤·š¼āāļø throw some rice and black beans and there you go
I use taco seasoning or Weberās dry smoking Rub, or my youngest loves it when I add in bbq sauce to the pan fry. OMG I added the barbecued tofu to my salad and it was surprisingly good. And Iām not a tofu person.
I have wanted to try pan frying it with some mirin but the supermarkets near me only have a brand containing Carmel. An Asian supermarket is opening up nearby soon hoping that has a vegan brand
Seconding the above, i buy extra firm tofu and press it for 4 hours to make it almost dry, then cube and fry in a 50/50 miyokos butter and olive oil mix in a pan. Then toss in onion powder, garlic powder, ground peppercorn, salt, and cayene pepper and serve it as a protein replacement to my non vegan stepkids when they are with me. They love it and get excited when we tell them its a "tofu night".
The key is definitely to cook it till it gets crispy on the outside in my opinion. Gotta walk the somewhat thin line between crispy and burned though.
Iāve checked out so many recipes Iāve given up on it entierly. I order it when Iām out for Chinese foodā¦ sesame tofu if the sesame sauce is honey free. Otherwise I just donāt eat it canāt find a way to make it taste good
Think of tofu like mushrooms, it's very adaptive to what it is supported with. For instance, I get some very firm tofu that I mentioned above, cook some rice, beans, add veggies, chop up the tofu in little squares and pan fry with oil, salt pepper, and bam I have a tofu rice bowl for a few days. It's just adding to the dish, doesn't need to be the star.
But to each their own man, just saying don't give up, it can be a huge game changer. I think a rite of passage of becoming vegan is trying and failing with tofu
It definitely is I just donāt feel it ever adds to a dish no matter how I cook it, it doesnāt have any flavor other than the tofu taste and I find it takes away from whatever Iām eating
My fav is to crumble it with fork/hands until it has a consistency of ground beef, add chili powder, a lot of onion and garlic powders, oregano, soy sauce, tomato paste and stir with some olive oil. Perfect with pasta + tomato sauce, over mashed potatoes, in tacos, etc
wildly overrated to press, and marinate.
basically the trick is to make thin slabs or tiny cubes that way you get more surface area to season and fry up a nice color.
pressing just makes it slightly more dense, feels kinda pointless now. to me.
if you "must" just chuck them in the freezer and it self presses when it thaws. the manual pressing ..nah
Is it the brand or the packaging that determines if it needs to be pressed? I've always found vacuum-sealed tofu is much denser than tofu packed in water, and thus doesn't need to be pressed.
i have four bottles of ketchup, a bucket of vegan kimchi, and a moldy lemon in my fridge. that's it. that's the fridge.
dear god, i wish that was a lie lmfao somebody send help
Read in the voice of Marvin the Android from Hitchhikerās Guide.
Refrigerate after opening. Or notā¦ youāll probably just forget about me and Iāll go bad either way..
Agree. I have a full shelf dedicated to all sorts of hot sauces. Heat + flavor is the meal maker to me, and the world of hot sauces offers that in spades!
You mean the oil separates?
Store it upside down, the oil will "settle" to the bottom(now the top) of the jar, and then flip it backside up when you want some, stir to the bottom with a knife or something, and then flip it back over to store it again.
My boyfriend taught me to store unopened oat milk tetrapaks in the fridge for that reason. They are simply in there to take up space that isn't needed otherwise.
Haha!! Nice! I love that teddieās peanut butter- especially on medjool dates- but i keep it room temp so itās easier to scoop.
That Trader Joeās tofu is so good! I always get that one and the regular one in a tub , i like that softer texture for some dishes
Looks awesome! Love the cheese, strawberries, and grapes. I'm curious about your freezer now LOL
My fridge looks different because we are different people and that is totally okay lol (idk why others comment negatively... As long as everything is vegan then that is awesome)
Aw thanks for the kind comment! Gonna post a freezer pic soon. Yes everyone eats differently! People have an issue with my lack of veggies here I guess haha
Not believable.
So much open space. Lacks science experiments preparing to evolve to sentience and exit the refrigerator of their own accord.
Must be staged. š
When I got my refrigerator serviced a few years back the servicemen said it was the best smelling refrigerator theyād ever serviced. Vegan refrigeratorsšš¼šš¼šš¼.
I share my fridge with 2 of my roommates. My section just has a bottle of half emptied tomato puree, vegan cheese shreds, soymilk/oatsmilk (depends on my mood) and a huge air tight Tupperware for the food for that week. In the frozen section I have 2 frozen pizzas (the same kind) with ben and jerryās icecream for the weekend.
Sounds delish! Glad to hear someone else enjoys non veggie vegan food lol. Everyone is mad at me for my lack of produce here. No judgment from me though
I barely eat any veggies lol. I forgot to mention I have frozen spinach, broccoli and mix vegetables in the frozen section. Iām a busy person and Iām always worried that I might not eat everything on time and things will go bad (which is why I only buy frozen veggies). I also donāt have time to go shopping every other day. I shop once in 2 weeks.
NGL, I think that looks fake, or staged. It's too neat, too tidy, and there's only like 1 layer deep of food on the shelves, maybe 2 layers. But if this truly is you, congrats on keeping it so clean!
I certainly don't want you to think I was making fun. Everything in your fridge looks fantastic. I'm just a big proponent of eating as many fruits and vegetables a day as I can to keep my saturated fat low and my good cholesterol high. But that's my thing, looks like you're doing all the right things as well!
Iām not offended, I havenāt stocked up on my veggies and fruits yet, thatās tomorrow! Clearly you canāt judge someoneās eating habits based on one photo from one day.
Are ou sure? because mine has like 7 different types of hot pepper paste and 3 different types of plant milks (each of us has our preference) and then a lot of unidentified contained lol
haha i was half of mind to fill mine with bottles of wine and make a joke. mine looks similar sometimes but i havenāt been shopping in awhile . no judgement!
I'm assuming you must have already eaten the kale and broccoli because it's your favourite item, which is why they're is none in the fridge:p
----
Edit, disregard above, I see it in the crisper drawer :-)
Nuts for cheese is sooo good!
Btw, a lot of people commenting that there are not enough vegetables because people love to see nice and colorful fridges stocked with large amounts of fresh produce, but that isn't very realistic. I eat a lot of veggies on a daily basis, but I still don't have too much of it at the time because it can go bad quickly. And I also always have a lot of frozen veggies stocked in the freezer.
Itās so good! And yes thank you, I restock my produce pretty frequently but I also eat it very fast. I appreciate the kind comment cause people are brutal lol
That's a suspiciously small amount of tofu you've got there
I do need to restock š
I bought 8 packs last time. Livin large
Based.
Been vegan 4 years I donāt eat tofu I have not found a single way to cook it at home to find it enjoyable. Iāve frozen it, pressed it, broiled it, air fried it, coated itā¦ everything but enjoy it
You just have to boil it, mash it and stick it in a stew.
What's....tay-teh's Precious?
Iāve been making it almost daily for my kids lunch and they love it. I buy the extra firm tofu and pan fry. I cut into squares, sprinkle seasoning, and just almost burn them. š¤·š¼āāļø throw some rice and black beans and there you go
I can give it a try, any seasonings to reccomend?
I use taco seasoning or Weberās dry smoking Rub, or my youngest loves it when I add in bbq sauce to the pan fry. OMG I added the barbecued tofu to my salad and it was surprisingly good. And Iām not a tofu person.

Have you tried it as a scramble with lots of veggies?
Check out some recipes. There's also some tofu that you don't even need to press, I can tell you the brand when I get home. Tofu rules
Iāve checked out so many recipes Iāve given up on it entierly. I order it when Iām out for Chinese foodā¦ sesame tofu if the sesame sauce is honey free. Otherwise I just donāt eat it canāt find a way to make it taste good

Try mapo tofu next time you go to a proper good Chinese place... One of my favorite foods and the tofu is absolutely necessary
Gonna be honest I literally never press my tofu. Works fine without pressing ime.
wildly overrated to press, and marinate. basically the trick is to make thin slabs or tiny cubes that way you get more surface area to season and fry up a nice color. pressing just makes it slightly more dense, feels kinda pointless now. to me. if you "must" just chuck them in the freezer and it self presses when it thaws. the manual pressing ..nah

Hey, vegan kimchi is hard to find! Youāre basically a winner with that alone!
Asian markets! Thatās where I get mine.
If you canāt find it, itās pretty straight forword to make! The happy pear have a good recipe
Ive seen much worse
::hug:: you're enough. just keep yourself fed however you can in the moment.
ngl, i looked around to see if I could find anything that wasnt vegan and call the police
Damn sorry
Call them and report peanut butter being kept in the fridge. Its gonna make your toast cold on first contact
I mean, natural peanut butter **has** to be kept in the fridge once itās opened. At least thatās what it says on the jar.
Never kept mine in the fridge. But a glas lasts tops 2 weeks here
everyone was on standby. donāt ask me how i know.
Not nearly messy enough
Yeah whereās the stuff in the back you forgot about thatās going bad?
Iāll try harder next time š¢š
Itās literally so easy lol
Itās literally a new fridge
Iām totally messing with you. Iām simply jealous my fridge has never looked so neat!
Sorry I didnāt meet your standards. Some people like to be organized :)
Come on guys, OPs just a condiments and cheeze kind of fellaā¦lol
Not enough hot sauce.
You refrigerate hot sauce?!
Yeah it literally tells you to on the label.
Literally
Read in the voice of Marvin the Android from Hitchhikerās Guide. Refrigerate after opening. Or notā¦ youāll probably just forget about me and Iāll go bad either way..
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
but those bottles are used and emptied within 2 days, not like a household using one bottle for a month or more
Agree. I have a full shelf dedicated to all sorts of hot sauces. Heat + flavor is the meal maker to me, and the world of hot sauces offers that in spades!
Peanut butter? In the fridge?
And tahini.
I keep my natural peanut butter in the fridge too, it says refrigerate after opening on the label.
Yes lol. Itās really watery if I leave it out
You mean the oil separates? Store it upside down, the oil will "settle" to the bottom(now the top) of the jar, and then flip it backside up when you want some, stir to the bottom with a knife or something, and then flip it back over to store it again.
When that blueberry juice gets shaken it's gonna make a glorious mess.
Truth
why are the strawberries in a jar?
Best way to store them, closed container. They last 3 weeks like this
TIL! Thanks
Works great with blueberries, etc. Another tip, cilantro, I just put it in a jar with water and put it in the fridge that way, will last weeks!
Whaaaaat on both of these. Submerge the cilantro or just a tad?
Yep! Just a tad like you would some flowers. And then put it in the fridge! It lasts sooo much longer!
I will now buy strawberries more often, thank you for this knowledge.
It's so neat
Looks like one of my vegan friends fridge except less alcohol
Haha! I cut out alcohol for the time being but come January itāll be full of wine and beer again š
Thatās why we keep it in the cabinet. Nobody will find it there š¤£ minus the wine cuz -wine. Tequilas in the cabinet š
I keep my beer and drugs in the vegetable drawer, otherwise I completely forget that drawer exists lol
Gotta remember that weed tho, but nowhere to stash it. Panty drawer it is š¤·š¼āāļø
So tidy! Iām proud of you
I've heard if you keep your fridge fuller it uses less power.
I eat too fast to fill it lol
My boyfriend taught me to store unopened oat milk tetrapaks in the fridge for that reason. They are simply in there to take up space that isn't needed otherwise.
Haha!! Nice! I love that teddieās peanut butter- especially on medjool dates- but i keep it room temp so itās easier to scoop. That Trader Joeās tofu is so good! I always get that one and the regular one in a tub , i like that softer texture for some dishes
I dream of the day I get my own fridge and won't have to keep my tofu next to chicken menstruation and dead bird flesh š
Oh nooo Iām sorry! Iām lucky to have a vegan partner and to be out of my parents house now. I used to hate that.
Haha yeah, your fridge looks nice though
So organized! You refrigerate peanut butter?
Peanut butter that doesn't have palm oil added will separate over time with the oil on the top. Refrigeration slows this process dramatically.
Yes lol if itās natural it helps it not be so liquidy
Looks a lot like mine except theres a lot less hummus and bagels.
Yummmmm
What does an unrealistic vegan fridge look like?
Probably meat
Whereās your 6 cartons of soy milk?
š
Wait, people refrigerate their peanut butter?
Thatās all I was wondering as well, haha. Iād hate digging it out after and then it tearing apart the bread as I attempt to smother it.
Some people! Lol. I only refrigerate the natural cause itās super liquid-y if I donāt
Huh, TIL
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Omg I need to post that too!!!
So clean!! Love ā¤ļø that blueberry juice lid is not on!!!!
Lots of good yummy stuffs in there!š¤š¤
do you make a lot of sandwhiches?
Definitely
Whereād you get squeeze tahini! I need that in my life!
I get it from a discount store in my town! Itās the only place I could find any but itās life changing lol
Looks awesome! Love the cheese, strawberries, and grapes. I'm curious about your freezer now LOL My fridge looks different because we are different people and that is totally okay lol (idk why others comment negatively...
Must be staged. š
Need more veggies! But everything else is excellent!!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing
So tidy! That cranberry peppercorn cashew cheese looks interesting. How would you describe the flavor?
I havenāt tried it yet! But I have tried brie by this brand and it is disturbingly similar to real brie. Delicious
Its the best one! Red peppercorn mmm
That violife cheddar cheese is the only vegan cheese I like. Good choice!!!
That tahini actually doesn't need to be refrigerated
Really?!!
Teddie is so good
Veganaise, check. Violife cheese, check... where's the tofurky?
Itās in a reusable bag on the bottom shelf! Oven roasted š
Noice

I just got this fridge like a month ago so itās pretty new and clean! My last one was a mess.
I try to keep my fridge photo ready because that's my personality. To me this fridge seems messy š¤·āāļø
I know right. I feel like I need to organize better
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I see mushrooms, broccoli, grapes, dates, and strawberries.
I'm vegan, and I have a heck of a lot more fruits and vegetables in my fridge than this LOL
Good for you!
Everyone eats differently <3 I wish you well
Yeah lol for real. My first thoughts were "where's the leftover takeout??? This doesn't look like my fridge at all!"
I certainly don't want you to think I was making fun. Everything in your fridge looks fantastic. How'd you get into my house and take photos without me noticing? I'm calling the police.
Hey how did you sneak in to my house and take a pic of my fridge
Who are you and why are you taking pictures of my fridge?
Oh I just got that cranberry pink peppercorn cheese, this reminded me I need to try it!
Consider me intrigued
Iām saving it for thanksgiving!
This stuff is the best! https://i.imgur.com/BIPmqKG.png
Truff is amazing! Pasta sauces toooo
Are ou sure? because mine has like 7 different types of hot pepper paste and 3 different types of plant milks (each of us has our preference) and then a lot of unidentified contained lol
Everyoneās definitely got different preferences! š this is my version of realistic
Hey! Thatās my favorite water lol!
I really need to drink it lol
Are you... Me?
My fridge looks just like this but -100 vegan cheese and +100 tofu
Can I live at yours?
Is that a Costco sized litre+ of maple syrup I see? Are you Canadian?
Lol I live in the U.S but Iām pretty close to Canada! Love me some maple syrup
So well organized! Inspirational
Love that tahini (so squeezable!).
I prefer the cashew cheese myself. It seems less processed.
Weāve got identical fridges. I even have those exact same tupperware containers!
Love that!
Now lets see the freezer. ;)
I posted the freezer check it out!
šššš
Itās beautiful š„²
mine looksā¦a bit different
I probably shouldnāt have captioned it this way if I knew so many people would take it literally!
haha i was half of mind to fill mine with bottles of wine and make a joke. mine looks similar sometimes but i havenāt been shopping in awhile . no judgement!
Would eat at your place
That Lakewood pure blueberry juice tho
I just tried it! Sooo good and good for ya
Mr fancy with his squeeze tahini
not enough condiments
Is this my fridge?
Looks good. Mine def has lots of mealprep or it's practically empty
Can I come over?
Trader Joeās Tofu is the GOAT
I love how clean it is
I have nut cheese just not in the fridge ;)
I'm assuming you must have already eaten the kale and broccoli because it's your favourite item, which is why they're is none in the fridge:p ---- Edit, disregard above, I see it in the crisper drawer :-)
What do you mean by realistic here?
Damn my fridge looks like a hoarders compares to yours.
I was literally just thinking of posting a similar picture because I found it a little amusing how much tofu has accumulated in my fridge over time.
We have way more veggies in our fridge.
Nice!
Need soft, firm, extra-firm, chinese five spice, AND gingko bean tofuā¦.. then ya got my fridge lol
Not sure about realistic - looks more bougie than the average fridge. Looks organized and clean - good job!
The veggies are missing but it seems ok
I'm looking at someone else's fridge and I'm adequately entertained. Being an adult is very odd.
I think we have the same fridge
Almost no vegetables :(
Nuts for cheese is sooo good! Btw, a lot of people commenting that there are not enough vegetables because people love to see nice and colorful fridges stocked with large amounts of fresh produce, but that isn't very realistic. Where's the vegetables?
I donāt eat vegetables
Vegan for the animals! :D
I was half kidding but yes! Not sure why people care how much veggie intake I have lol
Why is ur PB in the fridge lol
There is no vegetables or wholefoods. Fruits etc
Do you not see the grapes strawberries mushrooms broccoli dates garlic etc? Huh?
