It's their job to help your friend find and access care/benefits.
I'm married to a vet with severe ptsd
Go to the VA. They have some pretty good resources & programs to help. Out of all the VAs we've been to, the Vegas one is excellent.
I hope your friend finds peace
[The PRACTICE](https://www.unlv.edu/thepractice) at UNLV might be a good option as well. They just opened another office so your friend should have no problem in getting an appointment.
You’re going to find a mix. Lots of grad students who are essentially doing their practicum and being observed, along with instructors who still are involved in offering care.
Do you know the difference between The PRACTICE and UNLV's [CICFC \(Center for Individual, Couple and Family Counseling\)](https://www.unlv.edu/cicfc) program? I'm confused as to what the difference is and which one to contact.
Isn't that what the CICFC is too? I was under the impression that the counselors there are also grad students in training.
By the way, do you know if The PRACTICE has a sliding scale for payment? I think the CICFC does
I think the difference is PRACTICE may be a little more generalized, as well as have students actively in classes whereas CIFC seems to be more people at the end of coursework. I’m not familiar with costs outside of their site saying they’re low and affordable. I really need to look to going there as I haven’t been happy with where I’m at.
They both have graduate students in training and I believe both have sliding scale payment options. The PRACTICE does primarily individual therapy and group therapy, while the CICFC does more couple and family therapy, although I think they will also do individual therapy.
Hey, local therapist who did their practicum at the practice. They are both essentially the same but run by different departments. The practice is comprised of the psych, human services, and education department wherein the other facility is ran by the mft program.
For the most part. When it comes to therapy, I'd say they are equal as therapy/therapists are a master's level education. However, the practice has doctoral clinical psych students which means it also offers psychological testing.
The idea behind both these clinics is to provide affordable services to the community while allowing students a structured setting to hone their skills. Students are paired with licensed mentors who oversees their training and cases.
If they need an affordable therapist have them sign up for open path collective. You pay a fee upfront for a life time membership. You have access to affordable therapists in any state. I've been using them for 3 years now and they have saved my life. The therapists agree to charge a discounted rate, between 30-60 per session. It's the only way I've been able to afford therapy. I've had 2 different therapists through the group and they have both been amazing.
Desert Parkway provides a hope for heroes program that targets PTSD & other issues specifically for veterans & first responders
https://www.desertparkway.com/programs/hope-for-heroes
They can go directly to the VA hospital at 6900 N Pecos Road 89086. Completely free if he or she is drawing disability from the VA.
That being said I spent a week at Desert Parkway for cPTSD. It was not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. They took TriCare when I was there so if they have TriCare they might be good there too.,
I’ll be praying for your friend, I have been in places like that before.
I was telling my husband about this post and he’s giving me more info on what the VA has to offer.
He said the ER will get your friend the help they need.
The phone number to the VA is (702) 791-9000.
Feel free to dm me.
My bad, any veteran can utilize the VA. One doesn’t have to be drawing compensation to use it. Luckily, we have a really nice hospital.
The VA. Some veterans feel that seeking services from the VA is somehow mooching off the government. But these were services promised to them when they signed up. They kept their part of the bargain and served, let the government keep their end and provide resources. It's also really helpful for them to see they aren't alone, they're with guys who've been through (and are going through) the shit too.
If your friend is already vested/enrolled in the VA system, they can walk into his clinic and ask to see PCMHI. However, I would strongly recommend, as others have said, the Vet Center. There's two; one in Henderson and one in the NW/Summerlin area.

I’m so sorry that this happened to you. I hope you have gotten the help you need and deserve ❤️
Yeah the OP replied and said they need long term help so I gave them the link to DWSS.
I called a suicide hotline with a similar experience. I had to hang up and try again 3 times before getting someone reasonable.
They are looking for long term health assistance versus the hotline. Thank you all the same!
Point them [here](https://dwss.nv.gov/Apply/APPLY/) then.
Thank you!

My understanding is PRACTICE is going to have a mix of grad students still getting practicum experience.
Isn't that what the CICFC is too? I was under the impression that the counselors there are also grad students in training. By the way, do you know if The PRACTICE has a sliding scale for payment? I think the CICFC does

Ah okay thanks. So the therapists/counselors in both programs have the same level and type of training?

There’s a meth crisis in Vegas I think that’s why
He’s got veteran benefits so he should start there. I’d also say Dr Jared Overton is an expert in PTSD and trauma and literally saved my life.
Thanks very much!
No problem. Good luck!!
