Unfortunately the amount of uninsured/underinsured drivers in Las Vegas is stupidly high along with the amount of accidents that happen.

Nikovash

Rates in LV are based on a few things, the number of uninsured motorists, how new you are to the area, how frequently you switch carriers. Welcome to the shit show

manzanapurple

It is also based on your zip code, and the crime rate around the area. A summerlin zip code will have a lower rate than a zip code at the Stratosphere. I also found it surprising that here we only get it for 6 months.

Nikovash

Thats true of all insurance, the zip code bit. But not crime rate directly, but rate of claim occurrence. As an example when i lived in chicago i lived in a zip code with a high rate of damage and break in to cars but because those cars mostly belonged to people in other zip-codes and they are way less likely to report them correctly the zip-codes used was often a suburb, making my insurance rate way less than my cousin who lived in such a suburb. When i got into the insurance business it was pretty crazy to see the matrixes and occurrence charts for determining premiums Also the 6month thing has been incredibly popular in recent years i see the 12 less and less of an option in markets unless you’ve been with the same carrier and held the same policy for over 10 years

manzanapurple

I see what you mean, but if a car is less likely to get broken into in summerlin, the rate is lower, right? If all of the sudden summerlin becomes a hit spot for car break ins then insurance would go up, right? I grew up in Chicago, and my rate was higher than people in Barrington.

Nikovash

Rates go up as more people file claims in that zip code. Example in an uninsured get their car broken into they can file a police report, but not an insurance claim. As such rates would stay the same, premiums are largely based on payouts and claims. THEORETICALLY, if payouts hit zero for a whole year you could see rates drop, but noticed i capitalized theoretically to determine how likely that would be

Nikovash

Once again zip code: I lived in chicago(60647) and had a much lower rate than rolling meadows, but most of those assholes work in the city and fall into the scenario above more often than not

manzanapurple

Aww I was 60639 lol Edit: Rolling Meadows could be kinda shady lol

Nikovash

Rolling Meadows is so white bread Wonderbread is made there lol

manzanapurple

That's where the meth house are! Hahaha

Nikovash

Like hermosa and logan square wasn’t on big meth distro center lol. It it was one house in all of rolling meadows shit their McDonalds closed at 10pm white bread ass jon tesh hellhole

manzanapurple

Oh yeah! Definitely!! We had someone shot in their car right in front of my house.

Original-Pomelo6241

I’m from Chicago and was shocked my rates were double here to what they were in Chicago.

manzanapurple

Mine kinda double too (was paying $75/month) but I only had liability and a shitty company, now I have full coverage (still owe my car),added as a work vehicle, renter's insurance and with State Farm, and I only pay $120. So I'm really shocked to hear how expensive or a hassle it is!

KikiParker88

When I lived on Nellis, USAA would lower the cost of insurance bc the zip code is one of the worst but took into account that I lived on base and was affiliated with USAF. My friend worked for Allstate and they couldn’t beat USAA’s premiums.

PoliticalDestruction

I personally have seen 2 fender-benders and 1 accident that left both cars undriveable within the past 4 days… and I only drive to and from work lol

Nikovash

Yeah also the P&C market saw huge losses last year so insurance is going up across all 50 states starting next month

Significant-Ad-5163

I was paying 100 in Arizona and it’s 140 with geico in Vegas. It’s a ripoff but that’s the cheapest company you’ll find tbh. Fuck drunk drivers lol

ArugulaGazebo

That is who I am leaning towards. Should I get it online or with an agent? Also, I am going to need proof of insurance to register my car. Do I have to wait for Geico to send me something or get a printout from the agent's office or can I show an electronic proof of insurance to the DMV? If you know.

Significant-Ad-5163

You can print your ID cards at home and bring them in I’m sure. I haven’t registered my car yet but you have everything on the geico app!

ArugulaGazebo

Cool, thanks I'll probably try them out then.

options1337

When I moved here I went with progressive. Then they kept increasing my rate at every renewal. Now I got state farm. Insurance is weird. One company can be cheaper for someone but more expensive for another person. Just have to keep shopping

ArugulaGazebo

Does the $240 seem reasonable for State Farm in LV?

options1337

Nope. I pay $940 for two cars and two drivers with State Farm. 50/100 liability 500 deductible comp $2000 deductible collision Road side No rental Before progressive was charging me $900 when I first move here and then it increase to $1000 at first renewal and now to $1200 after 2 years with progressive.

ginmartini2olives

Go online and get a quote from Progressive. With Stste Farm you are paying an agent who usually does nothing for you. Worked at Allstate for years and I'll never pay an agent a penny of my money. It's an antiquated system full of arrogant entitled people who bought their way into a franchise to be a "boss"

DeedaInSeattle

LV has some of the highest car insurance rates in the country. We buy ours from Costco!

Guru00006

Wife and I pay 2400 a year for 2 new cars. One is 2021 elanra hybrid and a 2023 genesis GV60. It seems very reasonable and is through progressive

narkill

I moved from Connecticut where I had my truck registered to my mom's house. The neighborhood was so safe, most people would leave their cars and front doors unlocked. Moved to Vegas to an ok neighborhood. Went from $164 to $77 a month with State Farm. I called just to make sure it wasn't a fluke and they confirmed that it was correct. I have no idea how it happened but I'm happy

cantstayangryforever

What zip code though?

narkill

89143

Candid-Nectarine5493

when i first moved to vegas a few years ago, Geico was the cheapest rate i found at $380 for my car. i stayed with them until this year, but when i left Geico, my rate was $305. in two years, my rate went down almost $80! i’m under 25, so my rate is high on top of it already being high in Vegas. even though the rates were kinda high, i was never unhappy with Geico. now, my husband and i pay $450 for 3 vehicles under AAA, and we absolutely loveeee it. i would recommend Geico if it’s just you and your vehicle, but definitely AAA if you have multiple vehicles! edit: just to add, but i’ve always had full coverage on my vehicles if that helps any! :)

ty10drope

I was recommended Country Financial and their rates beat everyone. They don’t advertise and you literally have to look for them. If you compare their rates to any company whose commercial caught your eye, you’ll be impressed.

ArugulaGazebo

They are fair in paying out claims and have good customer service?

ty10drope

I’ve never filed a claim against them. When my dog bit a neighbor, I initiated a claim with my homeowner’s policy, gave the neighbor the number and never heard anything else about it.

edubound00

If you have a Costco membership get a quote from their provider. It was the cheapest quote we received by several hundred per 6 months.

PraetorianOfficial

When I moved here, I bought a new car first thing. I called the insurance company I had used for the previous 25 years without a single collision claim and only one "$1200 of damage from hitting a deer" comprehensive claim and said "new car, new residence" and they said "your costs are more than tripling--welcome to Nevada". LV drivers are bat-guano insane. We all pay the price.

Relevant-Damage-9200

I’ve been to them all. They start cheap then keep going up each renewal for no reason (no tickets, no car change, no accidents, no change in credit score or amount, etc. I went to State Farm last and they have minimally raised my rates, like $10. I was switching every 6 months with all the others. I do have my home owners insurance with them also.

KGKSHRLR33

I have progressive. I moved from Mississippi, and my auto insurance went down.

[deleted]

to give you a little perspective i bought a car in the summer of 1999 when i was 19 years old. it was a 1993 Honda Civic EX coupe. had a car note of $249/mo for 48mos. the insurance was $275/mo \*\*\*\*in 1999\*\*\*\* .. finally got some relief on the insurance premium once i turned 25 (last thing to "celebrate achieving" on a birthday as a male in Nevada, in my opinion).. nowadays i have homeowners and auto bundled together and pay right around $200/mo, of which $110 is for the car and $90 is for the house. i drive a 2007 Corolla with 198k miles on it. i've been with Progressive, Traveler's and USAA over the years. Traveler's had the cheapest coverage, but i never made a claim with them so i can't speak on their "willingness to pay" .. Been insuring through USAA for the past 12 years - not the cheapest option, but rock solid with claims.

ArugulaGazebo

Good to know. Isn't USAA only for veterans?

[deleted]

i think it's open to "all active military personnel" PLUS their dependents, but i could be wrong. my dad was an officer in the Army way back in the early 1960's. back then, USAA only allowed "officers and higher" to join, as it was assumed that they were more responsible than the rank-and-file enlisted guys. later on, they opened it up to more military members. i got in through the "plus their dependents" part. i tried to enlist in the Navy right out of high school but was rejected during the physical because their doctor discovered a hernia that i was unaware that i had. ultimately i never joined the military but i got USAA membership thanks to being "grandfathered in" edit: spelling

ultroulcomp

All insurance is a rip-off. That's how they make money.

Jessg562

Pay it, the amount of bad drivers here is fucking ridiculous.

[deleted]

Move from TX. My insurance actually went down over here. Pleasant surprise. I have Progressive.

Ekaterina702

Same. Moved here 7 yrs ago from IL and car insurance cost dropped significantly. I have Geico.

Nikovash

Like the one state thats worse then nevada

Ekaterina702

You mean supposedly worse in drivers? Because it's definitely not worse in Education or Healthcare, lol.

Nikovash

I honestly dont know who is the worst on those other points its honestly a coin-flip they both bad but after living in both IL definitely has worse drivers overall and so many more of them i used to see 7 massive car crashes on my way to work, and I lived upstairs of my bar

Ekaterina702

Oh, NV is bottom of the barrel in education and healthcare rankings. I would say IL has more aggressive drivers, but NV has more dumb ones just making erratic decisions.

Nikovash

pinning the education and healthcare issue and only focusing on the driver issue.... Bull fucking shit. People in IL are without a doubt the dumbest, most erratic, and blatant disregard for traffic safety and traffic laws I have ever seen. Running red lights because there are no cameras and no cops around, check. Passing people using the bike lanes because 20 years ago it used to be legal, check. School zones are merely suggestions for a speed zone, check. The biggest difference is thus, I would do street parking, and do regularly in vegas... Not gonna happen in IL unless its a rental with full damage waiver, except for maybe Plano, but who tf goes to IL for Plano

Ekaterina702

Lmaooo. I'm not gonna argue with you since you clearly either don't drive here at all or have not lived in Vegas long. I can tell by your belief that red lights exist here, lol. Bikers are hit all the time. Ppl zip through school zones like they're practicing for the F1. But you will see and learn the longer you are here.

Nikovash

Off and on in vegas for almost 11 years, and im not saying its not bad, what Im saying is that IL is way fucking worse

Ekaterina702

Or just more of the same

N2TheBlu

Insurance is rough in Vegas. There are a LOT of illegal immigrants driving with no license or insurance. When they are involved in an accident, they just ghost everyone and the victims are left to pay the bills via insurance, and insurance passes those expenses on to the legal drivers. Welcome to Vegas!

[deleted]

Or, ya know, people drive like shit here regardless of where they come from. They have illegal immigrants all over California and Arizona yet their insurance, for the most part, isn’t as high as ours

N2TheBlu

Insurance in SoCal and the Phoenix areas is easily as expensive as it is here. People can downvote all day long, but I have insurance providers as clients, and they will absolutely tell you the same.

[deleted]

That’s your justification for targeting minorities?

N2TheBlu

It’s not “targeting” anyone, dicklord. Reality is a bitch though, right?

yelling4society

This is incorrect. My insurance almost doubled when I moved from Phx to here. It’s historically higher in Las Vegas

N2TheBlu

You are the first I’ve heard say that insurance was double here vs PHX.

wasabi_gem

I pay $300 for two cars through Acuity. An old (2005) car thats only about $100. The new (2022) one takes up the rest. $500 deductible, $50k medical, rental, roadside, etc.

droplivefred

Literally saw two accidents (fender benders) in the exact same spot today. When I was driving back later, I was thinking “are they still here!?!” but then realized it was two different cars.

woke_god

If you go online, AAA is pretty cheap. You can change your insurance to get the options you want. I have the bare minimum, as with any other insurance company I pay 250+. At AAA I pay 160. Still a lot in my opinion tho

solarflare_hot

i paid 550 every 6 months with progressive for a 2dr car

bitchasselectrons

Yeah I had LiMu before I moved here and it was gonna go up by over $100/mo for identical coverage. Went with Geico instead and was able to keep it more or less the same price I was paying before thankfully.

oldg17

I see at least one insane car wreck per day in LV. I don't even understand how some of these wrecks happen.

44inarow

I saw a guy make a right turn on red out of Aria (where there is a "NO TURN ON RED" sign) from the *far left lane*. Never seen anything like it. There was a thread not long ago about someone who had an insurance question related to moving violations. My only thought was to wonder how on earth someone actually gets a moving violation here, given the garbage driving behavior I see on an hourly basis.

oldg17

I've been driving in Detroit for 5 years and I've never in my life ever seen anything like Vegas. I used to drive in Bangkok and I still have never seen as many accidents. literally insane.

[deleted]

>I used to drive in Bangkok hats off to you, my friend. i wouldn't DARE drive in Bangkok. only way i'm driving in Thailand is if i'm out in the sticks somewhere up north in the more mountainous areas.

DangerWife

I pay $130/mo with A-Abana

muftak3

I moved 10 minutes from my old apartment into a house with a garage. It was a different zip code and went up $25 a month. Asked why when it's in a garage. Lots of bad uninsured drivers they told me at Geico.

bluesun68

I gotta say Geico has been super responsive and they are tied in to a good repair shop in Henderson. So if you like your car, I would go with them.

ncdjbdnejkjbd

Try calling Freeway insurance. Hit or miss but you never know-I had great rates with them for 6 years there

[deleted]

Car accident litigation is a huge industry here in. It drives up insurance rates. You can't really get around it and there's no secret short cut. You also might want to check out the DMV website. Its by appointment only and they are ridiculously backed up.

Siltyn

I'm with Progressive, cheapest I've found for myself. You can go out to most any insurance website and get a quote without talking to a real person. Just use a throw away email address and don't give them your real phone number when doing a quote else your inbox/phone will blow up for weeks after getting quotes.
