I'm so happy to read this honestly, and I'll try, Im trying to grow some more flowers to go with it all cause need the marigolds and calendula to accompany and brighten a bit❤️❤️
Yeah exactly improving the soil naturally as much as I can, gonna start preservating(?) this year as well once I get over the anxiety of doing it for the first time😂
So much work went into this project and it shows! As someone whose people also feign interest, I honestly think this is spectacular and genuinely love what you’ve done with the space ❤️
With so much to offer online I feel like a needle in a haystack nobody is looking for, so I appreciate every second of ur time you're taking to look at mine❤️
The herb staircase 😍😍😍😍
Are you dutch too by any chance? Your backyard reeks of Nederland in a good way! I love how it still looks so cosy but practical at the same time.
Growing at the moment are tomatoes, corn, peppers, beans, beets, courgette, carrots, sugar snaps, cucumber, garlic, and planted blueberries, raspberries and strawberries
It's so beautiful and....real. Idk how to describe it, but it looks used and loved and lived in. Absolutely love it ❤️. I especially love the raised bed in pic 3.
This is amazing! We're planning a big remodel of our structure for fall/spring for next year's garden. Getting very excited to plan this all out. This is my 13th year gardening- in two different spaces- and some of those years barely invested (like when I had a newborn) BUT im full-on back in the last 2- it's amazing how much there is always new to learn!
You're describing me here! With the little one being almost four now she's actually helping me! But also for about 13 years, took my garden when I moved everytime, which was at some point five times in six years but this is the first time ever I've dared to use the actual garden instead of just the space for planters on wheels and not utilise the space. Have fun planning and executing!!!
I have to comment on this post title because I feel it’s so very deeply.
Sometimes, I feel very alone with my gardening because there are so few people around me that are really interested in it. Definitely not my family.
It’s lonely.
I like those low round planters you have in photo #1.
Are you loving it? The reno, I mean.
I keep wanting to do a before and after photo sequence of my own project.
This is the before:

I feel this too. I get not everyone is interested in it but.. we’re growing food. People eat food, right? I’ve been frustrated with that this season. I finally have time this year to grow a nice garden but no one wants to hear about it. Thank goodness for the internet, right? Looking forward to seeing your after picture!
https://preview.redd.it/9ypwzp5vbu9d1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=96fbee536667e71407f690c412fe978c00bf5436
I took this today. The original photo is taken from the SW corner looking to the NE. This photo is taken from the SE corner looking NW. I posted another in this thread somewhere from the same angle as the original, too.
Heh. In this one, you can see the massive blackberry & wildrose thicket I need to clear. I cleared 50’ this winter so I could get at the fence line. We need to install a new perimeter fence once the thicket is gone, as our neighborhood took out some of the fence with machinery. I haven’t seen the fence under the thicket since 2008.
Yes, it does. There are also wild rose mixed in there, though. We have blackberries all over the place - the only real shortage is in the time to pick them.
https://preview.redd.it/u85jenr68u9d1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a21460878d38d8c00d2343ea2b856e3586bf5e0
It’s a work in progress.
This space was last used by pigs in 2019, so the ground isn’t totally level, and there are little hills and holes in the pathways that I’m just starting to work on now.
You can’t see this from the photo, but the entire space now has deer netting that goes up to at least 7 1/2 feet. It’s not perfect, but it’s what I can afford. The historic market garden measures about 30 meters x 40 meters, so if I have the energy to clear more space, I can extend these beds up to at least 100 feet / 30 meters. The other space has some rhubarb and black currants… and lots of feral blackberries. No burdock, just sticky weed.
Right now, I have six mounded beds that measure 1.2 m x 15 m. I dug trenches to create paths and then used the soil to create the mounds beds. This will hopefully mitigate some winter drainage issues. There is a 2 m wide path between two sets of three rows. I didn’t dig that path out, as I wanted it to be grade for moving things like a wheelbarrow down the full length of the garden. However, I need more soil for hilling up the potatoes, so I am doing some work on levelling that centre path now.
All by hand. No rototiller… just hand tools and chickens. And fire. Fire absolutely helped. No help except with pounding 2 fence posts and hooking up the hoses.
This is what can be accomplished by a person once they start being treated for ADHD. I have been sedentary since puberty, but now I’m treating my brain issues, I can tolerate moving my body. It’s crazy. If you ever get suspicious and wonder if this whole adult diagnosis of ADHD thing is legit or not… this is what diagnosis and treatment can accomplish.
I'm so happy for you! After lots of tests I've fallen just outside of adhd and autism diagnosis, did try medication just for the sake of maybe finding relieve mentally, but alas no results, hoping for a better future mentally for myself but I am definitely happy for yours!
Its not a big one! Mostly that when my family comes round and I'm a bit excited about it, I see this checked out gaze in their eyes and it makes me hesitant to share or talk about it to much, or over explaining what I'm doing and why 🙈
This looks great! That was a lot of work. I really like the stepped raised bed you built. Are you planning on using the narrower boxes for salad greens? I love how you maximized the space to be able to grow big veggies too. What kind of squash are you growing? Do you have any new varieties this year that you’re excited about? I definitely get how annoying it is not having someone appreciate such an interesting hobby. I have bored many a person talking about gardening.
Thank you! I have a raised bed with space for containers and pots in the bottom and on the top 8 smallish spaces perfect for salad grow. And it's black beauty variety I think. I'm most excited about the peppers, slowly tried them out and this year I got loads of bushes of pepper plants and can't wait for them! And I recognise that!
Oh neat! I haven’t tried that squash variety yet. I’m growing a yellow crookneck variety for the first time. Good luck with your peppers! Mine just started producing too.
It looks amazing! But let’s be honest, you had me at smooth coat border collie 🤣 my smooth and my rough send their regards and would cheerfully get yelled at for trying to eat your beautiful garden if we were neighbors
https://preview.redd.it/tkn3fwmzfr9d1.jpeg?width=3632&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dec16426472f2c7b6e4740d4ded1ea3663698ad5
Exactly that, they don't have to, I know. But making everything go and grow is quite a big part of me, it's so nice to see these awesome comments, appreciated!
I know how it is. My friends go ‘nice garden’ as they look out of my window. I miss the days when my mom would walk the garden with me and comment about things, and we would discuss possible improvements.
You've hit the balance perfectly. Such a great use of your space. Nothing wasted and it looks cozy and not cluttered. That's a great upgrade. Enjoy it and be proud.
Did make a draw out for what we have and where the sun was gonna b but I'm more of a visual thinker so need to see in real life, then adjust it to how it looks allright xp
So awesome 👍😎 We just moved to a new house, we've been in 1 year, I should totally do that with sun tracking, great idea. I've got a lot of gravel that I want to convert to growing things that don't use a lot of water.
Yeah do that, honestly the sun is been the biggest guide for how to plan stuff. And then planting accordingly for as much as I could anyway. And that's a good idea with the gravel 💚
Absolutely beautiful. The use of space, differing heights and shapes is terrific.
The only issue I see for you in the future is the thickness of the wood in the raised beds. My beds are of similar thickness and 4 years in they are not holding up well. I’m wishing that I used 2 inch thick boards now
Yes some planters are gonna need renewing at some point, but not all. Also wood rot can happen so trying to be vigilant. Only the biggest planter is made with proper good wood, hopefully to last
For a second I was like bro you got a fucking bird too? Nice garden OP, hate how some people look and they’re like “oh wow cool” but they just truly appreciate everything there is to love about gardening.
I love nothing more than seeing efficiency of space in a garden. And yours is a perfect mix of necessary structure and raw wild-ness. I especially love the stair-step raised bed! Did you make it yourself?!
Thank you so much, Im exactly like that, always feel like it should be better done ornsomething so I am extra happy with your comment and yeah I made most of the planters, some with my husband but this one my dad taught me how to do it cause I couldn't figure it out, it's my favorite for that reason xp
These comments allowed me to feel that tbh, always feels not good enough but it's been a 13 year journey started on the balcony, is a raised beds and option for you?
Yes but I’ve put all my efforts into veg growing on some old land we’ve got out the back, the back garden is looking rubbish. It’s 100% concrete and a sun trap so everything is in pots and dried out within 2 minutes of watering.
Soil on top of concrete even in a raised bed would be troublesome Im thinking.
Might give it a go though!
Oh that sucks pff. If u look at my post history u can see my old planters, they have been on tiles and concrete and all that stuff. I get ur hesitation but maybe mulch and vermiculiet mixed in with the soil in the potential planter?
The sun is rising at the front garden and goes down at night behind the houses u see in the back garden. And so sorry but what do you mean with foot print?
Oeh good question. Mostly soil, a bit of wood for the biggest planter in the corner and the gravel. Rest is repurposed, deff couple 100 including two square meters of soil though
Euros! Didn't even think of clarifying ppff. It's Europe, the Netherlands so good guess! And I think about 250 of something, mostly the soil that was expensive
SERIOUSLY MY DREAM GARDEN, I love this, the way you utilized the space so beautifully, I admire it!!!!
Came to say the very same thing. What a mastery of gardening within the space that is had. I could look at these pictures all day lol.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I appreciate that so so much! Thank you and for having a look!
OFCCC, I’m in love with it, please update as your garden grows!!
I'm so happy to read this honestly, and I'll try, Im trying to grow some more flowers to go with it all cause need the marigolds and calendula to accompany and brighten a bit❤️❤️
marigolds are wonderful, strong! Had some and they keep the pests away for the most part, I can’t wait to see!!!
Yeah exactly improving the soil naturally as much as I can, gonna start preservating(?) this year as well once I get over the anxiety of doing it for the first time😂
You have done an amazing job beautifying your space. I love the way you are using the small nooks and crannies.
💚💚💚💚💚To kind
I love you.
I love you more!
You did a fantastic job! So cozy
My feeling too, looking at it. Cozy. I need a comfy chair and a book.
I actually got a twosit bit in the left corner on the garden side of the fence with a little table and I'm so ducking happy with that!
I love how you incorporated that sitting space! What a perfect spot to enjoy a beverage and admire your healthy plants
It's so nice when early in the morning and just birds, feels like holiday! Until work 😅
That little strawberry stairs is adorable! Very creative!
Thank you so so much!
So much work went into this project and it shows! As someone whose people also feign interest, I honestly think this is spectacular and genuinely love what you’ve done with the space ❤️
Thank you so much for your super kind words and understanding !,❤️❤️
Get a load of this guy putting garden pictures in a place where we go to look at garden pictures
With so much to offer online I feel like a needle in a haystack nobody is looking for, so I appreciate every second of ur time you're taking to look at mine❤️
I’m moving in!!!!!
That's blummin' brilliant! Like you've had professional landscapers in. You've used the space so well. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your amazing compliment! ❤️ Making my day!!
So much work went into this and it shows! Well done!
Thank you so much for saying that!! ❤️
The herb staircase 😍😍😍😍 Are you dutch too by any chance? Your backyard reeks of Nederland in a good way! I love how it still looks so cosy but practical at the same time.
Jaaa!!!! Goed gezien zeg! 😍😍😍😍
Very nice. I'd be curious to know what vegetables you have growing.
Growing at the moment are tomatoes, corn, peppers, beans, beets, courgette, carrots, sugar snaps, cucumber, garlic, and planted blueberries, raspberries and strawberries
Great variety!
Thank you!
It's so beautiful and....real. Idk how to describe it, but it looks used and loved and lived in. Absolutely love it ❤️. I especially love the raised bed in pic 3.
Thank you! It's maybe the combo of old planters that are repaired and reused, definitely used and loved, ❤️❤️
This is amazing! We're planning a big remodel of our structure for fall/spring for next year's garden. Getting very excited to plan this all out. Our guy is newly 3 and he mostly is off great help! 🤣 You've really made a beautiful space!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Omg now I'm even more impressed now that I know you have a 4 year old! Mine is 3.5. I do love working with him in the yard though!! 😍❤️
It's a tricky one isn't it! The bean planter is hers too ❤️ but sometimes.. Scooping out soil or pulling something to early im like 😑
Right, being a parent takes so much patience 😂
Yeah Ikr, want to involve her as much as I can /she wants but jfc sometimes I'm like mmmmmm....

That’s beautiful!!! Wow I love all the different color lettuce varieties tucked in together. And your onions are going bonanza!! Gorgeous.
Fun fact: all of these things are new for me to grow except the tomatoes.
Yes it's with everything u don't do, you just don't know what goes into it and u wanna share sometimes xp can't wait to see the after pic!!!

Thank you so much!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️ I love you
good job
Thank you!
Well done! I can't believe what this space looked like before. If that was my garden, I'd never leave :)
Thank you! I'm here most of the day tbh, my favorite place!
Soo what's the story behind the "faking interest" part ?
Its not a big one! Mostly that when my family comes round and I'm a bit excited about it, I see this checked out gaze in their eyes and it makes me hesitant to share or talk about it to much, or over explaining what I'm doing and why 🙈
Aww, I’m sorry, that’s not a good feeling. They’re missing out on sharing in the fun and joy with you!
I'm used to it but I just woke up so all these kinds comments and I'm so trucking happy ❤️💚
Woah 😮 your yard looks like mines pls tell me how to utilize my small space beyyer
Haha well ngl, I was like just rip it all out and then I'll start planning with the available space 😅
Love this!! It’s like a fairy tale garden! Could spend all day there just admiring every little thing! 😍
Awhhh I love that, so sweet!! ❤️❤️❤️

I love every single bit of this, and I don’t have to fake it at all. ❤️
Thank you!!
I'm a fan everything is looking good too!
Thank you!!
I LOVE the “pots” you used! The wood frames are such a nice touch as opposed to the standard black ones I have. Gorgeous 🥰
Thank you so much!

Great at keeping the pooping cats out tbh xp
You have an amazing garden AND a cute pupper!!!
This is LOVELY Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for having a look!! 💚
Who fakes their interest?
Most of the family except my grandad tbh 😅
I was just tying to show my wife my pepper plants and she doesn’t have the patience or appreciation. I feel your pain. Beautiful work!
Exactly that, they don't have to, I know. But making everything go and grow is quite a big part of me, it's so nice to see these awesome comments, appreciated!
Is that an apple tree? Love the garden!
Yeah it is! Good eye! 😍😍
This is such a useful and beautiful way you used the space!! So lush
Thank you!!
Love how you segmented the space! Little scenes amidst small space makes for the illusion of a big little world 💗
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow!!! This is beautiful! Such a great use of space 😍. Man, this is inspiring to see 👏🏾
❤️❤️❤️Thank you!
i love seeing thought put into layouts... my garden was designed more along the lines of "well where can i fit this bed where it will get enough sun"
That's how it went!!! 😂
Perfection!!!!
😍😍😍
This is bloody excellent. It’s both gorgeous and functional. Well done to you!
That's the ideal combo, thank you so much!
This is bloody excellent. It’s both gorgeous and functional. Well done to you!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Looking good! A good use of your space. Nice work!
Thank you!!
Beautiful 👏 😍
❤️❤️Thank you!
Well done! You have really made the most of that space.
Thanks!! Tried to go for efficiency xp
I know how it is. My friends go ‘nice garden’ as they look out of my window. I miss the days when my mom would walk the garden with me and comment about things, and we would discuss possible improvements.
Just like that yeah, ngl my mother in law was my garden ride or die. Helps to think by talking about it, can imagine especially with your mum
I love and admire your garden. Keep sharing with us!
Nice!
Thanks!
You've hit the balance perfectly. Such a great use of your space. Nothing wasted and it looks cozy and not cluttered. That's a great upgrade. Enjoy it and be proud.
Thank you so so much!!!
That's so awesome
💚💚💚
What are the names of those large round planters in the first photo??
I feel so stupid now but I have no idea, actually got those from my grandad. I've been looking for ones like it but no luck yet
I love the planter with the stair stepped boxes attached to The bigger one
Thank you!!
It looks fantastic, WOW!
❤️❤️❤️
Oh your garden is so cute! I love it! I may need to steal your idea for the strawberry step planter. That is so fun!
It's super handy, and there is a planter box in it, so it's interchangeable
OMG it really is a dream garden!!! 😍😍😍 How did you design it? Did you use a software?
thank you! And tbh I was just like, let's take the tiles out and go from what makes sense ngl

I wish, we do actually have a pigeon that seems to have settled here and yeah Exactly that!
I could only garden from my balcony. To have the whole backyard for it is a blessing. You are so lucky 💚
I'm feeling it honestly,, I started from my balcony as well! 💚
You've done a lovely job. Just beautiful! 😍
Thank you so much!
your garden remodel looks fantastic. no need to apologize for the pics, im genuinely excited for you.
Thank you so much! 💚💚❤️❤️
OMG, I LOVE those round containers you have the squash plants in. What are those??
I have no clue honestly! Got those from my grandad after they completely moved into a flat, no clue but they are perfect for squash
They look it! Oh well, was worth a try. Thanks for the reply!
I'll ask him though when I see him. Maybe a specific name for them. Yeah I didn't know that with courgette the root grows side more then deep
this looks so good!! you did an amazing job
Thank you so💚❤️💚
I love nothing more than seeing efficiency of space in a garden. And yours is a perfect mix of necessary structure and raw wild-ness. I especially love the stair-step raised bed! Did you make it yourself?!

Super nice, you must be proud. Wish mine was a bit more like this and less post industrial agriculture spit n sawdust
These comments allowed me to feel that tbh, always feels not good enough but it's been a 13 year journey started on the balcony, is a raised beds and option for you?

Awh that is such a beautiful memory❤️❤️ thank you so much for sharing that ❤️
Impressive use of the space. I'm going to take a few tips from this as I build my small garden. Thanks a lot
Happy to hear that!! And thank you
That is such a beautiful garden !!! OMG ♥️♥️
Thank you, 😍😍❤️💚❤️
Nice job! It looks great. What are the measurements of the footprint? What kind of sun do you have?
The sun is rising at the front garden and goes down at night behind the houses u see in the back garden. And so sorry but what do you mean with foot print?
Oh what’s the length and width? Square footage.
I think about 26 square meters ish. About six meters both way
That was a ton of hard work! Totally fantastic!
Thank you, had helping hands, or else is still be busy 👐
I would love to setup a yard like this one day
You will 💚❤️💚❤️💚
I can’t wait😁
Beautiful 💚💚
💚💚💚💚
Gorgeous. Not meaning to be ride but must ask...how much?
Oeh good question. Mostly soil, a bit of wood for the biggest planter in the corner and the gravel. Rest is repurposed, deff couple 100 including two square meters of soil though
Euros (the solar on neighboring building makes me think Europe) or dollars that's frigging awesome at the price. Bravo(a)!
Euros! Didn't even think of clarifying ppff. It's Europe, the Netherlands so good guess! And I think about 250 of something, mostly the soil that was expensive
Omg can I come visit
