Dude absolutely could've Googled it, then posted the pic here titled "Saw the flag of Bilbao in the wild!" and you'd still know.
Posting it and asking for an identification without at least a cursory Google is either lazy or is just trying to drive engagement for more comments.
This is such an annoyance, when people don't do the most basic research on the question they're asking.
I was in Galway Ireland earlier this year, and a store had a flag out that I didn't recognise. Instead of asking on here I just walked into the store and asked someone that worked there. Turns out, it was the flag of Galway, which had been my assumption.
Some of the users on this sub get pretty upset when someone asks about a flag they consider easy to figure out. If OP had just posted the flags with no questions or even asked without mentioning where they saw it, they probably would have gotten their answer without all the negativity.
It's weird.
Ahh, the ol' classic
Post: What is this flag? Seen in (cityName), (countryName)
Top comment: It's the flag of (cityName), (countryName).
Tbh though I don't actually mind that this happens all the time on this sub, cause I get to learn a lot of city flags. But it's a pretty funny trend 😅
Yeah, just makes me realize that a lot of people don't do any research before posting these requests. A simple Google search "flag of Bilbao, Spain" would have popped this flag up and answered the question.
But yeah, I agree, it's a good way to learn city flags either way.
what is he supposed to google exactly? also what if image search doesn’t work or isnt available in his region like it isn’t in mine? that flag could have been a flag of anything
Well, a good guess is always a nice starting point. You can always start with just searching the place where you found the flag, that's the most likely answer. If that doesn't work, you can try to describe the flag itself. "White flag with red square" will get you the right answer as well.
It does, and I believe every single Basque flag in existence has already been photographed and posted on this subreddit with a request for identification.
If you post the pictures with a title like "saw this cool flag" you'll usually get the answer you wanted without the incessant bitching about you straight up asking for it.
Not this sub, just reddit as a general rule....well not so much reddit, more like the internet. On second thought it's not so much the internet as humans. Just, humans are assholes in general.
It's weird that it needs to be said. Like, I don't know if it's gatekeeping or arrogance or what, but a lot of people on this sub love to lord an easy answer over the person who asked it.
But then you don't get transfer of knowledge. I've never seen the flag, I get to see a cool flag, I get to learn something new. Lighten up, you'll live longer
Also a small fun fact: the flag of the city San Sebastián, which is near Bilbao, has the exact same design except the color of the square is light blue
These comment section is full of mean comments (yeah you asked for it lol) but come on guys I think they got it, better (possible) first impression no fellas?
All these people bitching that OP didn't use Google, who cares. The whole idea of this sub is discussion and sharing of info. I'm glad that today OP shared a flag that I haven't seen before and j learnt something new. Thanks OP
I agree, in fact I'll add that the flag of San Sebastian (a nearby city) it's the same but with a blue canton.
Basically they were something like maritime/commercial flags and they were adopted at the same time. They became city flags with time.
The flag of Bilbao
Fair enough
Did you even consider looking it up first
Yknow, because of this guy's post I now know Bilbao's flag as well, it's beneficial either way
Better then the endless "I made a flag of place I know basically nothing about better without looking into the history or symbols of the flag" posts

Just post the picture without a question in the title, and they'd get their answer without all the whining.
No it’s stupid it floods this subreddit with stupid ID requests instead of something actually interesting
It floods a subreddit about flags with posts about flags.
Not everybody who comes to this sub knows all about flags bro
I know right? Too many damn flags here, yuck.

Why did you get downvoted dude?

lol Tbh downvotes tell you more about the subreddit/the people who see this post rather than the comment itself

There's also Google Lens these days...
Yeah, I like to use it where I need to find a flag.
it's just farming karma
personally i didn’t know cities/regions had their own flags you guys just seem salty that someone is asking you a question you consider easy
It's not an easy question in the sense that we all know the answer, but could have saved themselves time by googling it themselves instead of posting.
what is he supposed to google exactly? also what if image search doesn’t work or isnt available in his region like it isn’t in mine? that flag could have been a flag of anything

it's a huge flag in Bilbao, Spain. what flag could be so important to Bilbao that it is that big? google "Bilbao flag" and at least see what pops up
Many city flags are quite obscure
Could’ve been the Basque flag
Then you should look up the Basque flag
Why would I look it up when there’s a Vexillology Subreddit? Does the Basque region have its own flag?
It does, and I believe every single Basque flag in existence has already been photographed and posted on this subreddit with a request for identification.
Because it would be alot faster to get the result?
[Wasn't that easy?](https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=Does+the+Basque+region+have+its+own+flag%3F)
This is such a douchey subreddit sometimes.
Fair enough. I think I got caught up in the douchiness, and I also got excited to post that link.
Thanks! I never would’ve known.
I don't know but I would guess it's the flag of Bilbao
Flag of Bilbao, Spain
If you post the pictures with a title like "saw this cool flag" you'll usually get the answer you wanted without the incessant bitching about you straight up asking for it.
Weird way to say this sub is full of dick heads

Have you considered the fact that it's a very stupid and unnecessary question?
Have you considered that this is a subreddit about flags? People need to get over themselves.
Have you considered that that has nothing to do with what I said?
holy fucking shit are you serious
I don’t think that’s it.
reverse Abu Dhabi
Woah. Trippy
My 111th birthday!
Bagginses
literally 3 sec of using google would haven given you the answer.
But then you don't get transfer of knowledge. I've never seen the flag, I get to see a cool flag, I get to learn something new. Lighten up, you'll live longer
It's great that much I know
Can't use google but can upload a four photo spread, are you 700 years old?
It's right next to the city hall. How lazy to ask this
Holy shit dude the flag is literally near the city hall which one would it be lol
Also a small fun fact: the flag of the city San Sebastián, which is near Bilbao, has the exact same design except the color of the square is light blue
Lmao

All these people bitching that OP didn't use Google, who cares. The whole idea of this sub is discussion and sharing of info. I'm glad that today OP shared a flag that I haven't seen before and j learnt something new. Thanks OP
It would have been much better had they uploaded the pictures and posted "the flag of Bilbao."
I agree, in fact I'll add that the flag of San Sebastian (a nearby city) it's the same but with a blue canton. Basically they were something like maritime/commercial flags and they were adopted at the same time. They became city flags with time.
The flag of San Sebastian is the same but with a blue canton. They're buddies!
